DC Talk, the chart-topping group that gave Christian contemporary music a new sound in the 80s and 90s, is finally getting back together for a tour.

Band member Michael Tait told KTIS-98.5 last week that the band will begin touring again in 2020. 

“Next year dc Talk will be doing a land cruise,” Tait said, drawing a distinction between it and the group’s performances on the Jesus Freak Cruise at sea. “We’ll be doing tour dates in the states, not announced yet, but it will be very few, but we’ll do them each year – [20]20, 21, and probably 22. 

“We’ll be around here somewhere eventually,” Tait said, referencing St. Paul, Minn., the home of KTIS. 

“I might be the first guy of the band to announce it. Toby [Mac] and Kevin [Max] haven’t, but it’s official we’ll be doing some dates.”

It would be the band’s first tour since the Supernatural Experience Tour of 1999. 

With its combination of rock and hip hop, DC Talk was one of the most popular Christian groups of the 1980s and 90s, winning four Grammys and 16 Dove Awards. 

Tait, Toby McKeehan and Kevin Max Smith formed the group at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., in the late 1980s.

A restaurant that has a corporate mission to “glorify God” is officially the third-largest restaurant in the United States.

Chick-fil-A climbed from No. 7 to No. 3 in the latest rankings by the Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN) analysis after it had $10.46 billion in total sales in 2018, trailing only behind No. 1 McDonald’s ($38.52 billion) and No. 2 Starbucks ($20.49 billion). Chick-fil-A passed Subway to take the third spot.

It was the fifth straight year for Chick-fil-A to post a double-digit sales gain, NRN reported. Chick-fil-A grew by 16.7 percent in 2018. 

“Despite being closed on Sundays, Chick-fil-A’s Estimated Sales Per Unit hit $4.6 million, up 9.6% from $4.2 million in the Preceding Year,” NRN said.

The company was founded by Truett Cathy, a Christian businessman who incorporated his faith into the company’s practices. Cathy closed the restaurant on Sundays.

“Having worked seven days a week in restaurants open 24 hours, Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose – a practice we uphold today,” the company’s website says.

God told Alabama college student Rodney Smith to give back to the community, so he did – all across the country.

“One day, I saw an elderly gentleman trying to mow his lawn and he was struggling,” Smith said. “He came to me that I should do something about it. And that’s when it came to me to cut the lawns for the elderly, disabled, and single-parent mothers.”

In 2015, Smith started a mowing service called Raising Men Lawn Care Service. He hoped to mow lawns in all 50 states for those who might not be able to, including veterans, single moms, the elderly and the disabled.

Using his own car to get around the country, Smith knew he would have to fly to Alaska and Hawaii in order to accomplish his goal. Thankfully, Delta came to the rescue. According to WCNC, Delta offered to fly Smith to both states free of charge.

A legal group representing three female Connecticut high school athletes filed a Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Tuesday, asserting that the state’s governing body is violating federal law by allowing biological boys to compete and win in girls-only events.

“This discrimination must end,” the complaint reads. It was filed with the department’s Office of Civil Rights by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

It could have national implications.

Two biological boys named Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood, who identify as girls, have won 15 Connecticut girls’ state championship titles, Christian Headlines previously reported.

Neither athlete takes testosterone-suppressing hormones as required on the NCAA and international levels. Their victories came after the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) issued a rule allowing athletes to compete in any gender-specific sport that matches their identity.

The complaint asks the Office of Civil Rights to issue a declaration finding that Title IX “neither permits nor requires CIAC’s Policy that allows biological males to compete in high school women’s athletic events.” It further asks the office to issue an order requiring CIAC to revise its rules. The complaint also asks the office to require CIAC to wipe the biological boys’ wins from the books.

YANGON, Burma, June 19, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Local authorities in western Burma (Myanmar) last month forced three Christians to convert to Buddhism, area sources said.

In Ann Township in southern Rakhine state, five local officials led by U Tin Shwe Maung took two ethnic Chin Christians from their homes in Padi Kyin village to a monastery on May 24 and threatened to expel them from the village if they did not convert to Buddhism, according to the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).

Forcing pastor U Aung Thin and a member of his 30-member house church who requested anonymity to sign documents stating their conversion to Buddhism before the Buddhist monk in charge of the monastery, the officials also threatened that the two Christians would be fined 100,000 kyats (US$80) if they engaged in Christian activities, villagers told CHRO.

Previously local officials have demanded money from other Christians, according to area Christians.

In a separate case the next day (May 25), a Buddhist monk took Padi Kyin village Christian U San Tin Aung to a village administration office and compelled him to sign documents stating conversion to Buddhism or else he would be expelled from the village, according to CHRO.

Nearly a half a dozen woman Bible teachers have called Christian author Beth Moore’s views on homosexuality into question this week.

In an open letter signed by Susan Heck, Debbie Lynne Kespert, Michelle Lesley, Martha Peace and Elizabeth Prata, the women ask Moore why she has not spoken out on the issue of homosexuality, despite being a loud voice against misogyny and racism.

The women noted how Moore speedily condemned the Covington Catholic School boys earlier this year whom the media falsely portrayed as racists and bigots, but how in regard to homosexuality, she has avoided making comments altogether. “It is this Johnny-on-the-spot readiness to engage issues related to misogyny and racism that makes your virtual silence on the issue of homosexuality so puzzling,” the letter notes.

The letter continues, focusing heavily on Moore’s seemingly close relationships with two progressive Christian authors, Jen Hatmaker and Jonathan Merritt, who have openly shown support for the LGBTQ community. Merritt has even expressed that he had “at least one homosexual encounter about a decade ago.”

The letter notes that Hatmaker and Merritt are “known for their belief that practicing homosexuals can be Christians” and questions if – since Moore is adored by them both – she too subscribes to the same ideology.
