St Peter’s Barge, a congregation which meets on a boat in the Canary Wharf financial district, says the uncertainty could leave workers in the industry more eager to discover the lasting stability found in Jesus.

Senior minister and author, Rev Marcus Nodder (pictured) told Premier: “That’s something we pray for the Christians who work in the Wharf; that, in the midst of the uncertainty, it would be apparent to other people around them that they have a rock on which they’re building their lives, which is Christ.”

 

London’s FTSE 100 Index – which measures the prices of shares in 100 major companies – recovered same of its losses on Tuesday afternoon, after dropping more than 2.5 per cent at the start of trading.

The slump, which mirrored in markets across the United States, Asia and Europe, was prompted by concern rising prices could prompt the US to hike up the cost of borrowing.

Describing how uncertainty has gripped the industry since the 2007-2008 financial crisis, Rev Nodder went on to say: “Since then – and now, with jitters in the stocks and the fall in the past few days – I think there is a real sense of uncertainty and insecurity, and that’s very widespread in the financial sector.

“The axe is hanging over people all the time now, so there’s a lot of pressure to be working hard and staying at the desk.
