Revitalization won’t happen in a church that doesn’t put forth the effort. Today, we discuss why some churches actually don’t try to revitalize.

Episode Highlights:

  • There are two types of job coasting: laziness and avoidance
  • Sometimes churches don’t think they need to revitalize because they compare themselves to other churches instead of realizing what they should be.
  • For churches needing major revitalization, often the pastor then end up hiring is not the pastor they actually need.

  1. Simply stated, neither the members nor the pastor want to put forth the effort.

  5. Common attitude #1: “Things are really not that bad.”
  6. Common attitude #2: “We will get the right pastor in time.”
  7. Common attitude #3: “We would rather die than change.”

Alyssa Milano says she is ‘pro-life’: Abortion and biblical hope

Actress Alyssa Milano has been making headlines for years. In 2017, she was instrumental in the #MeToo movement. She has advocated for vegetarianism, supported political candidates, and crusaded against abortion restrictions. She even called for a “sex strike” to protest Georgia’s recently passed “heartbeat bill.”

Accordingly, you can imagine viewers’ surprise when Milano told Cuomo Prime Time that she is “pro-life.” She explained: “I don’t think there’s a human on the planet that is not pro-life. Nobody wants to get an abortion. Nobody. We are all pro-life.”

Then she qualified her statement: “But there are circumstances that we cannot avoid. There’s the mother’s health. There’s just not being ready, ya know, and what that means financially and for someone’s destiny. This is an economic issue.”

So, Alyssa Milano is “pro-life” unless the life of the child conflicts with “being ready,” “someone’s destiny,” or an “economic issue.”

Tragically, she speaks for many.  

Producing more light than heat

The abortion ban passed by the Alabama state Senate on Tuesday was signed into law yesterday by the state’s governor. It joins “fetal heartbeat” laws recently passed in Ohio and Georgia. Numerous commentators are pointing to the likelihood that the Supreme Court will eventually determine the status of such legislation. The Court could even overturn Roe v. Wade.

As the abortion debate accelerates and the political season intensifies, it will be important for Christians to respond in ways that produce more light than heat.

Eleventh century queen’s remains may have been found at Winchester Cathedral

Scientists from the University of Bristol have been assessing 1,300 human bones from the Hampshire cathedral with the aim of matching the remains with the names of eight kings, two bishops and one queen whose names are on six mortuary chests.

The researchers believe that some of the remains may belong to Queen Emma of Normandy who died in 1052 in Winchester.

 

The conservation project was launched in 2012 and three years later, radiocarbon dating carried out by experts from the University of Oxford confirmed the bones were from the late Anglo-Saxon and early Norman periods.

The team of biological anthropologists from Bristol have since been attempting to assess whether the bones related to the historical burial records.

A cathedral spokesman said: “This process involves recording the contents of the chests and determining the number of individuals represented, along with their sex, age at death and physical characteristics.

“Working in the Lady Chapel at Winchester Cathedral, which became a temporary laboratory, the researchers reassembled over 1,300 human bones, with the aim of restoring the identity of the kings, one queen, and several bishops traditionally thought to be within the chests.”

 

The spokesman explained that 23 partial skeletons had been reconstructed which is more than the remains of 15 people thought…

York Minster windows get upgrade in £11m project

The windows date back to 1404 and tell the story of the spread of Christianity across the north of England.

Work to replace the medieval glass is expected to take 11 years to complete, according to the cathedral.

It is part of a 20-year project with the cathedral and York Glaziers Trust to add environmental protective glazing to more than 70 of its unprotected windows, buying time for other conservative work.

   

 

The restoration will also include maintenance of stones in the Cathedral’s South Quire Aisle, which dates from the late 1300s.

The project is supported by an innovative fundraising campaign organised by the York Minster Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
