THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayerlessness is proof of relationship failure with God.

Every buoyant relationship is serviced by communication; the more buoyant the relationship, the more buoyant the communication.

Every time there is a relationship breakdown, communication also breaks down. Frequency of communication is proof of lively communication. This is why when two people are in courtship, they talk to each other almost always. Every time your communication with your husband, wife, friends, etc. breaks down, your relationship with them also breaks down. Whenever you see a husband and wife who are not in talking terms with each other, something is wrong.

Sometime ago, I heard a story of a man and his wife who were not talking to each other. Every time the man wanted to talk to his wife, he would write a note. For example, when he wanted to eat, he would write, ‘Where is my food?’ The wife would also reply through a note, ‘Your food is ready.’ This was how they kept living their lives. So, one day, the man wanted to travel and wrote a note to his wife, ‘Wake me by 7:00am, I have a flight to catch.’ When it was 7:00 am, the wife wrote a note, ‘Wake up, it is 7am; go and catch your flight.’ She dropped the note and then the flight time came and passed but the man was still sleeping because the note could not talk. When he woke up, he was angry because he had missed the flight. This happened because he was not in talking terms with his wife. How sad!

Every time relationship failure happens, communication breaks down, and inconveniences follow. So, prayerlessness is proof of relationship failure with God. Every time a person is no more praying as he should, his relationship with God is failing; and relationship failure can lead to hardship in life.

Beloved, do not be a victim of relationship breakdown. Talk to God and to people always.

1. Make up your mind to keep your relationship with God, spouse, relatives and loved ones active by vibrant communication.
2. Communicate with God as often as possible through a lifestyle of consistent prayer.

The MESSAGE:

Not having Christian discipline can upturn your entire household. Examples of these abound everywhere. In the Bible, one could refer to the story of Eli the priest at Shiloh who refused to discipline his two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, for their untoward attitude in all ways. His pampering and failure to discipline his children led to a curse and his death. The Lord was not happy with his household and the sins of his children were more or less visited on him (1 Samuel 4:18).

Undisciplined parents would charge at anybody who dared correct their children for wrong doing. I was in a Christian family home some time ago. They just returned from church service when I got to their house. The way the two daughters dressed was unsightly, one could see their underwear. One of the neighbours jokingly remarked that, “Sade, when next your mummy dresses you like this, I will make sure that both of you are arrested.” Sade’s mother immediately replied, “Please, leave my girls alone, they have not committed any offence. They are wearing what their colleagues wear, it is what is in vogue.” It beats me hollow to hear the mother’s reply. I ruminated in my mind that if everybody was going mad, should those who are sane join them also? This attitude does not fall within Christian discipline. Half or almost total nakedness is utter indiscipline in a Christian family.

As a Christian, your life including the way you dress should be a good epistle for others to read and should glorify God. Are you a parent? Your lifestyle should preach and instil holiness and discipline in your children and ward. Beloved, let people around you see the glory of God in and through you. Let your lifestyle and character win souls for Christ and make others better Christians. Lord will give you the grace to do so, in Jesus’ name

Topic: Are Angels Just for Kids? [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 21 March 2019]

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? – Hebrews 1:14

Most of us heard about our guardian angel when we were just children. And, in those days, it was a comforting thought. With monsters lurking behind the closet door and creepy things crawling beneath the bed, it was good to know that someone was there to protect us when the light was out.

But, as the years passed, we outgrew our childhood fears. The imaginary creatures that had once seemed so real disappeared from our minds—and sadly enough, for most of us, the angels did too.

But angels are not just kid stuff. They’re powerful spirits sent forth to minister for us who are heirs of salvation.

The word salvation in Hebrews 1:14 is from the Greek word soteria meaning “deliverance, preservation…material, and temporal deliverance.” Just think about that! God has created vast numbers of gloriously powerful spiritual beings for the express purpose of protecting us and delivering us from the evils of this world.

And remember, according to Psalm 103:20, the Word of God is what puts those angels in action. So when you’re in trouble, don’t cower and cry about how awful things are. Speak the Word! Give your angels something to respond to. Then be patient and let them have time to work. They’ll get their job done.

Topic: Rest In His Love [Andrew Wommack Devotional 21 March 2019]

John 5:16, “And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him because he had done these things on the sabbath day.”

Text: John 5:16-27

The Sabbath was first mentioned in Scripture in Exodus 16, when the Lord started miraculously providing the children of Israel with manna in the wilderness. The Israelites were commanded to gather twice as much manna on the sixth day because God would not provide any on the seventh day. Shortly after this, the Lord commanded the observance of the Sabbath day in the ten commandments that were communicated to Moses on Mt. Sinai on the two tablets of stone (Ex. 20:8-11). In this command, God connected this Sabbath day with the rest that He took on the seventh day of creation.

As revealed in Colossians 2:16-17, the Sabbath was symbolic. According to Exodus 23:12, one of the purposes of the Sabbath was to give man and his animals one day of physical rest each week. Today’s medical science has proven that our bodies need at least one day of rest each week to function at our peak. Deuteronomy 5:15, also clearly states that the Sabbath was to serve as a reminder to the Jews that they had been slaves in Egypt and were delivered from bondage, not by their own efforts, but by the supernatural power of God. However, in the New Testament, there is an even clearer purpose of the Sabbath stated. In Colossians 2:16-17, Paul reveals that the Sabbath was only a shadow of things to come and is now fulfilled in Christ. Hebrews 4:1-11, talks about a Sabbath rest that is available to, but not necessarily functional in, all New Testament believers. This New Testament Sabbath rest is simply a relationship with God in which we have ceased from doing things by our own efforts and are letting God work through us (Gal. 2:20; Heb. 4:10).

The Sabbath is not a day, but rather a relationship with God through Jesus. Rest in His love and let Him use you today.

Is it not logical to believe that the only one who can recreate us is the One who created us in the first place? If your watch were out of order, you wouldn’t take it to a blacksmith. If your car needed overhauling, you wouldn’t go to a machine shop. Our spiritual problems can be solved only by the God who created us originally. He created us in His own image and likeness; today, by the grace of His Son, He can recreate us in the likeness of His resurrection. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are recreated and become partakers of His life.

Prayer for the day: There is so much that is out of order in my life, Lord. Remake all the parts that need the infinite healing of your re-creation.

MESSAGE:

According to many Bible scholars, Daniel was in his early teens when he was suddenly taken captive by a pagan land to serve a pagan king. Despite Daniel’s young age, he already had a strong relationship with God, and he ensured that nothing made him lose that relationship.

As a Christian teenager, you have to determine never to compromise your standards no matter how great the pressure is.

Keeping a steady relationship with God was very important to Daniel; the Bible records that Daniel will kneel towards Jerusalem from His window and pray there times every single day. Though he was now in a pagan land, forced to work for a pagan king, he decided not to forget his God; he frequently prayed to Him and purposed never to wrong Him. It was this decision that eventually landed him in the lion’s den and even in the face of that, Daniel didn’t compromise his stand with God.

You will come across many instances where you will be pressed between honouring God and doing what the rest of your friends are doing, when faced with such situations, choose to honour God.

Key Point: Honouring God is equivalent to honouring yourself.

Open Heaven 21 March 2019 Thursday MESSAGE:

A careful study of the Bible will reveal to you that it is possible for someone who God has liberated from all forms of bondage to return into the captivity of the enemy. Sin is the number one instrument the enemy uses to recapture his targets (Romans 6:16). After the children of Israel were set free from oppression in Egypt, they return into captivity in Babylon because they refused to obey God’s commandments, leading to the sad narrative of today’s memory verse. In captivity, the enemy tormented them by requiring them to sing their sacred songs. Every mockery of the enemy in your life comes to an end in Jesus’ Name. Samson was another child of God ridiculed by the enemy because he dabbled into sin. After putting out his two eyes, the enemy mocked him and put him on display in the temple of Dagon, the God of the Philistines. They turned the great Samson into a pitiable object of sport and forced him to entertain them with the power he had once used to attack them. Sadly, he died with the enemy in the temple of Dagon.

Just like Samson, some people play with sin, believing that they will have the opportunity to repent, engage in long term fasting and prayer and bounce back on their spiritual feet. Such people should learn from Samson and abandon this assumption. Judges 16:20 says this of Samson:

“And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.”

If you live a life that toys with sin every now and then with the hope of always bouncing back, may I announce to you that there is a journey into sin you may undertake that would be your last. This is the reason why the Bible says we should work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). There are things people do today that are equivalent to singing sacred songs in Satan’s temple. As God’s own peculiar people, we must rid the Church of strange practices that conform to the way the world does its things (1 Peter 2:9). We cannot afford to destroy our uniqueness in the name of making the gospel appealing to the world. With this in mind, we must beware of singing satanic songs on God’s altar in our bid to win the world. If because we want to catch monkeys we begin to behave like monkeys, we will only end up multiplying the number of monkeys, and the souls we are trying to win to Christ will never partake of the image of God that we have. A word is enough for the wise.
