DCLM Daily Manna 2 February 2019 – Found Wanting?

Topic: Found Wanting? [DCLM Daily Manna 2 February 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Revelation 20:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man according to their works” (Revelation 20:13).

MESSAGE:

Napoleon Bonaparte, a French emperor, who like Adolf Hitler, brought death to millions of people to satisfy his lust for earthly power, screamed: “I die before my time, and my body will be given back to the earth. Such is the fate of him who has been called the great Napoleon. What an abyss between my deep misery and the eternal kingdom of Christ!”

There are many stories from the Scriptures and in our contemporary time that expressly show the real experience of men after death or near the door of death. There is the passionate cry of the rich man who died without God, but pleased that warning should be sent to his brothers to avoid them meeting him in the same place. There are numerous stories of atheists, who while on earth, deceived many with their erroneous beliefs and teaching, but while on their death beds, cried like babies.

It is self-deceit to think that death is the end of all activities. The passage brings to reality the hereafter events that will affect all mortals. John uses prophetic figurative languages in order to rehearse the effect the gospel has had on the work of the kingdom of darkness. The seventh and last symbolic vision in Revelation is given to manifest the totally of the victory of the gospel over the spiritual powers of darkness.

John emphasises that no unrepentant sinner in this world will escape the final judgment. The beast and the false prophet will also be judged.

If you must escape the looming judgment, adequate preparation is required. As a sinner, you must confess your sins, forsake them and accept Christ as a personal Lord and Saviour while believers must remain steadfast in holiness and righteousness till the end.

Thought For The Day: Victory belongs to the courageous.

Our Daily Bread 2 February 2019 Devotional – Ears Were Made for Listening

Topic: Ears Were Made for Listening [Our Daily Bread 2 February 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Exodus 31–33; Matthew 22:1–22

Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear. – Jeremiah 5:21

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Jeremiah 5:18-23

Actress Diane Kruger was offered a role that would make her a household name. But it required her to play a young wife and mother experiencing the loss of her husband and child, and she had never personally suffered loss to such a degree. She didn’t know if she could be believable. But she accepted, and in order to prepare, she began attending support meetings for people walking through the valley of extreme grief.

Initially she offered suggestions and thoughts when those in the group shared their stories. She, like most of us, wanted to be helpful. But gradually she stopped talking, and simply started listening. It was only then she began truly learning to walk a mile in their shoes. And her realization came by using her ears.

Jeremiah’s indictment against the people was that they refused to use their “ears” to hear the Lord’s voice. The prophet did not mince words, calling them “foolish and senseless people” (Jeremiah 5:21). God is constantly at work in our lives communicating words of love, instruction, encouragement, and caution. The Father’s desire is that you and I learn and mature, and we have each been given the tools, such as ears, to do so. The question then is, will we use them to hear the heart of our Father?

Today’s Reflection
Father, I believe You are always speaking. Forgive my stubborn tendency to think I have all the answers. Open my ears that I may hear.

Kenneth Copeland Devotional 2 February 2019 – Thank You, Lord

Topic: Thank You, Lord [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 2 February 2019]

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Notice that this scripture instructs us to give thanks in all things, not for all things. When tragedy or temptation strikes, we are not to thank God for them. He is not their author. He’s the One who provides our way of escape from them. And that’s what we’re to thank Him for.

If you read the four Gospels, you’ll find that Jesus never gave thanks for sickness or death. Instead, when He encountered them, His response was to overcome them by God’s power. So give thanks as Jesus gave thanks—not for Satan’s activities but for the victory God has given you over them.

Scripture Reading: John 11:1-48

Andrew Wommack Devotional 2 February 2019 – There Is A Righteous Anger

Topic: There Is A Righteous Anger [Andrew Wommack Devotional 2 February 2019]

John 2:15, “And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables.”

Text: John 2:12-14

Jesus brought the message of “love your enemies” to the world and demonstrated it in such a way that some people have forgotten instances like this when Jesus showed anger. Anger can also be a godly emotion.

Ephesians 4:26, tells us to “be angry and sin not”. This means there is a righteous type of anger which is not sin. This is why we are told to hate evil (Ps. 45:7; 119:104, 163; Pro. 8:13; Rom. 12:9).

Ephesians 4:26, goes on to say, “Let not the sun go down upon your wrath”. That doesn’t mean that it’s alright to be angry during daylight as long as we repent by nightfall. Rather, it is speaking of this righteous type of anger. We are never to let it rest. Don’t ever put it to bed, but keep yourself stirred up against the things of the devil.

The key to distinguishing between a righteous anger and a carnal anger is to discern our motives and the object of our anger. Godly anger is directed at the devil with no consideration of self. If we are angry with people, it’s carnal (Eph. 6:12). And if our motivation is self-serving, then it’s wrong.

Billy Graham Devotional 2 February 2019 – Life Is Eternal

Topic: Life Is Eternal [Billy Graham Devotional 2 February 2019]

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. — Titus 1:2

Life is a glorious opportunity, if it is used to condition us for eternity. If we fail in this, though we succeed in everything else, our life will have been a failure. There is no escape for the man who squanders his opportunity to prepare to meet God. Our lives are also immortal. God made man different from the other creatures. He made him in His own image, a living soul. When this body dies and our earthly existence is terminated, the soul lives on forever. One thousand years from this day, you will be more alive than you are at this moment. The Bible teaches that life does not end at the cemetery. There is a future life with God for those who put their trust in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer for the day: Thank You for the eternal life in Christ and for the peace that comes over me because of this triumphant promise! Today help me relay this joyous news to those around me.

Religiously Active People Are Happier than Others, Pew Research Center Finds

Religiously Active People Are Happier than Others, Pew Research Center Finds

A Pew research study has found that people who are regularly religiously active are happier and more engaged in civic matters than people who are religiously unaffiliated or religiously inactive.

The Pew Research Center conducted surveys in more than two dozen countries to measure people’s happiness, health, and civic engagement in correlation to their religious involvement.

According to the results, “This analysis finds that in the U.S. and many other countries around the world, regular participation in a religious community clearly is linked with higher levels of happiness and civic engagement.”

On average, the study found that 36 percent of religiously active people in the United States self-described themselves as very-happy were as only 25 percent of religiously inactive and unaffiliated people self-described themselves as very happy. This phenomenon repeated itself in 19 out of the 26 total countries the research team surveyed. The highest levels of happiness were reported in Mexico with 71 percent of religiously active people self-describing themselves as very happy, 64 percent of religiously inactive people describing themselves as very happy and 61 percent of religiously unaffiliated people describing themselves as very happy.

Belarus reported the lowest levels of happiness with only 11 percent of religiously active and religiously inactive…

New plans to plant church in every housing estate in the country

At the General Synod on 20th-23rd February, the church will discuss a motion which will acknowledge that there has historically been a marginalisation of people in social housing by both the church and the state.

Plans drafted by the Estates Evangelism Task Group reveal a desire to change this and ‘see a serving, loving and worshipping Christian community on every significant social housing estate in the country’.

The church will discuss urging every diocese to build ministries in estates and involve the residents in their mission strategies, such as considering where they plant churches or deploy clergy to.

Speaking to Premier about this vision, Reverend Helen Shannon, who is part of the Estate Evangelism task group, said they were looking particularly at estates that had around 500 houses in: “If you look at parishes in the Church of England, those make up a fifth of the parishes.

“Nearly 50% of the population live actually in those parishes but out of those parishes there is only a third whose church building is actually on or near the estate.

“In London you can have a succesful church…impacting the community, seeing social transformation but actually they’re not impacting the estate down the road. And so I think that’s where our feeling for ‘sent-ness’ comes from – that actually we have to go to those communities that can be isolated within great pockets of…

Pennsylvania Drag Queen Story Time with ‘Annie Christ’ Sparks Protest

Pennsylvania Drag Queen Story Time with ‘Annie Christ’ Sparks Protest

A Philadelphia library announced that they will be hosting a drag queen story hour with “Annie Christ” – to sound like “AntiChrist” – and some people in the community are pushing back.

According to the Christian Post, the Lansdale Public Library is inviting kids from across the community to “Drag Queen Story Fun Time with Annie” this Saturday. While library director Tom Meyer says the event has “overwhelming” support, he also noted that the event has attracted more complaints than ever before.

The Christian Post reports that Meyer said they are going through with the event, despite push back, because it is a celebration of inclusion. He said, “One of the tenets of our mission here is to celebrate cultural diversity in the community, and I think a lot of the parents are interested in that and also the message of the story time, about acceptance and inclusion.”

Others, however, see this event as doing the exact opposite, and instead of demonstrating inclusion, it is attacking Christianity.

A Facebook Event page for a prayer rally against the event said of the Drag Queen story time, “Lansdale, Pennsylvania, is bringing perversion from the nightclubs and sexually charged pride parades into the library with children.”

It continues, “Trusted officials and library staff are promoting a foul-mouthed adult entertainer named ‘Annie Christ’ (a…

Church of England’s same-sex marriage stance made me feel not equal

Lord Scriven said he and his husband David wanted to reaffirm their love of 23 years in the eyes of the church, but were denied by existing law, adding: “It made me feel, in my country, not equal.”

The Liberal Democrat peer added such a situation “devalues” the love of same-sex couples.

His remarks came as the Lords debated a proposal to allow ministers to make regulations to remove the 2013 exemption which prevents clergy members from solemnising the marriage of same-sex couples.

Lord Scriven said the amendment would not order the church to remove the exemption but, if the church changes its opinion, puts down in law the opportunity to “bring my marriage and others into the arms of the church”.

Following a debate during committee stage of the Civil Partnerships, Marriages and Deaths (Registration Etc.) Bill, which aims to extend civil partnerships to opposite-sex couples, the amendment was withdrawn although it is expected to undergo further debate at a later stage.

Lord Scriven said: “I have experienced – and let’s be clear – the prejudice of not being able to be married in the Church of England.

“I married just over 16 months ago.

“Me and my husband, just like every other couple, went into this with a sense of enjoyment and excitement – wishing to reaffirm our love of 23 years in the eyes of not just society, but also – because of David’s view on religion – also…

Legislator Filed ‘Abortion during Delivery’ and Pro-Caterpillar Bills on the Same Day

Legislator Filed ‘Abortion during Delivery’ and Pro-Caterpillar Bills on the Same Day

The same Virginia legislator who filed a bill this year that would have allowed abortion during a woman’s delivery also filed a bill to prohibit the targeting of a certain type of caterpillar by pesticides.

The bills were filed the same day.

HB 2491 by Del. Kathy Tran would have eliminated many of the restrictions on late-term abortion and even would have permitted an abortion while a woman was dilated and in delivery, as Christian Headlines previously reported.

That bill was filed Jan. 9, the same day she filed HB 2495, which pertained to the fall cankerworm. Specifically, it would have prohibited “localities from spraying pesticides intended to suppress an infestation of the fall cankerworm during the period between March 1 and August 1.”

The fall cankerworm is a caterpillar pest that can devastate trees.

Pro-lifers on social media said the contrast between the two bills was striking.

“Save the Cankerworm. Destroy a full-term baby. Thank goodness the VA GOP legislators stopped this madness,” Terry Lathan, the chairwoman of the Alabama Republican Party, wrote on Twitter.

Under questioning this week, Tran admitted that her first bill would allow have allowed abortion up to the moment of delivery.

The committee chairman asked her: “Where it’s obvious that a woman is about to give birth – she has physical…
