A “coming-of age” film called Cuties has sparked outrage for its sexualizing of 11-year-old girls who are shown twerking in revealing outfits.

The trailer, which Netflix released on Tuesday, stars 14-year-old Fathia Youssouf who plays the lead character Amy, an 11-year-old Senegalese girl who shows interest in joining a twerking dance crew, despite living in a strict Muslim household in Paris.

While the film was originally made in French, it will be translated into 40 languages, Variety reports.

The film also included a controversial promotional poster of Amy and her dance partners  in black shorts, knee pads, and blue crop tops that reveal their midriffs.

Amy is shown kneeling down while spreading her legs. On the left side of the poster, a co-star is seen in the twerking position. Both the trailer and the poster received widespread backlash for overly sexualizing young girls.

At the time of this writing, the trailer has over 503,000 dislikes and counting.

On Thursday, the popular streaming giant acknowledged the backlash and issued an apology.

“We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description,” Netflix wrote on Thursday.

A study shows that India could see about 6.8 million fewer female births between 2017 and 2030 because of sex-selective abortions.

The PLOS ONE study from Fengqing Chao at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, and her colleagues said there is an “intensity of son preference” in the Indian culture, The Christian Post reports.

“The masculinized SBR (sex birth ratio) for India is a direct result of the practice of sex-selective abortions at the national level,” the paper, titled “Probabilistic projection of the sex ratio at birth and missing female births by State and Union Territory in India.”

“Some states, such as Punjab, have experienced an early and rapid rise in birth masculinity since the 1980s, whereas in North Indian states, the masculinized SBR started to increase later.”

The Uttar Pradesh area could lose the most female births with researchers estimating about 2 million less from 2017 to 2030.

“Our study highlights the need to strengthen policies that advocate for gender equity and the introduction of support measures to counteract existing gender biases that adequately target each regional context,” they concluded.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court announced Thursday that there’s no court order prohibiting Pastor John MacArthur and Grace Community Church from holding indoor worship services amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“We are pleased with the outcome today,” Jenna Ellis, special counsel for the Thomas More Society and one of the attorneys representing MacArthur and his church, said in a statement to The Christian Post.

“Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff correctly found there is no court order prohibiting Grace Community Church from holding indoor services,” she added. “LA County continues to harass and target Pastor MacArthur. Having failed to get a court order to shut down the church they have sought three times, they’re going to try again by hauling us back into court. Ironically, LA County said in its application for contempt that, ‘Grace Church cannot thumb its nose at the court when decisions don’t go its way,’ yet that’s precisely what LA County is now doing themselves. We will simply continue to defend our client’s constitutionally protected rights because church is essential.”
