Prominent Colombian Socialist, Former Guerrilla Fighter Endorses Joe Biden for President

A prominent socialist and former guerrilla member from Colombia gave offered an endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

According to Faithwire, CNN Español host Juan Carlos Lopez asked Gustavo Petro on Monday, “Did you endorse Joe Biden as a candidate for president of the United States?”

“Well,” Petro replied, “if I could vote, which I cannot, I’m not a citizen of the United States. But if I could vote in the United States, in the interest of my Latin-American people, I would vote for Biden, without a doubt.”

Petro formerly served as the mayor of Bogotá and had two failed presidential bids in 2010 and 2018.

American Enterprise Institute research fellow Ryan C. Berg told the Washington Free Beacon that Petro is “closely associated with the ’21st Century Socialism’ movement of Hugo Chávez and other leftist leaders in Latin America.”

Colombian-American activist Fabio Andrade did not take well to Petro’s endorsement of Biden as he found it “offensive.”

“We’re offended, it’s very simple. Knowing what we know about this terrorist, a person that has the blood of Colombians on his hands,” Andrade told the Free Beacon. “This endorsement is pathetic and very dangerous.”

Berg added that Petro’s endorsement would further add to “Trump’s rhetoric that Democrats are happy to be associated with socialists in foreign countries and thereby hurt…

County Asks Judge to Hold Church in Contempt of Court for Worshiping Together

County Asks Judge to Hold Church in Contempt of Court for Worshiping Together

A California county is asking a judge to hold a church and pastor in contempt of court after the congregation met in defiance of a court order during the pandemic.

Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Newbury Park, Calif., met indoors Sunday despite a temporary restraining order from Superior Court Judge Matthew P. Guasco that prohibits the congregation from gathering indoors through Aug. 31. Guasco, when he issued the order, said “there is no exercise of a right unless people are alive to exercise it.”

Ventura County on Tuesday asked Superior Court Judge Vincent O’Neill Jr. to hold the church and its pastor, Rob McCoy, in contempt of court. O’Neill set a hearing for Aug. 21 on the matter, according to the Ventura County Star. O’Neill replaced Guasco on the case.

The church is allowed to hold outdoor services, but McCoy said it’s not practical with a congregation of more than 1,000 members.

“Where are we going to put 1,500 people?” he asked.

He also is afraid of meeting outside due to death threats. The county, he said, is violating the church’s guarantee of religious liberty under the First Amendment.

The church could be fined, and McCoy or members jailed.

“I wish it didn’t have to come to this,” McCoy said in a video last week. “But we will be violating the judge’s order. … We’re going to keep worshiping God. … Our community desperately needs this. It’s…

Most Americans oppose religious exemptions from COVID-19 lockdown restrictions: Pew

Upsplash/Haley Rivera

Most Americans oppose giving houses of worship religious exemptions from COVID-19 lockdown regulations, according to a new survey by Pew Research Center.

In findings released Friday, Pew found that 79% of respondents said religious institutions should be subject to the same social distancing guidelines as secular businesses and entities.

Respondents who identified as evangelical Protestant were more likely to support giving houses of worship more flexibility, nevertheless 62% of them also opposed exemptions.

Pew found a partisan divide, with 93% of Democrat and Democrat-leaning respondents opposing exemptions versus 65% of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents agreeing.

Pew based its findings off a survey taken July 13-19 among 10,211 adults in the United States, with a margin of error for the full sample being plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.

The survey also found that evangelical Protestants were less likely to believe that their churches should remain closed during the pandemic compared to other religious groups.

Eighteen percent of evangelical respondents said their churches should be closed, versus 27% of Catholics, 40% of mainline Protestants, and…

Is your smile 82 feet wide?: How to reflect contagious joy in our everyday world

Adobe Stock

We see smiles every day, and they make us feel good.

When everything is falling apart, smiles are powerful. And contagious.

Last week, giant smiley faces of eighty-two feet in length were projected on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and the House of Commons in London to “represent the bond between the two nations.”

Research commissioned by Ciaté London found that adults in the US smile eleven times a day, amounting to 243,309 smiles over the course of their lifetime. Ciaté founder and CEO Charlotte Knight says the research shows that people enjoy smiling and smiles make a difference in our self-confidence and overall mood.

“Particularly at times like this it’s important to stay self-confident, emotionally aware and see the positives in everyday moments by sharing smiles,” she said.

The research further showed that during our current pandemic, 49 percent believe it’s important to find things to smile about in order to stay positive and 56 percent said seeing someone else looking happy improves their mood.

Is your joy contagious?

Our countenance when we are in public speaks volumes to those around us. It’s true that laughter and smiles are contagious. Just watch some of the baby videos online.

Paul wrote to the Philippian Christians, “Rejoice in the Lord always,” then he repeated it for emphasis, “again I will say, rejoice” (Philippians 4:4).

He knew the contagious effects of joy. While imprisoned in Philippi, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God, while the other prisoners listened. A great earthquake hit, and the prison cells were all opened. But, the other prisoners did not try to flee.

The jailer and his household became believers as a result of God using two prisoners who chose to rejoice in the Lord rather than in their circumstances (Acts 16:25–34).

Jesus told his disciples, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your…

4 Reasons Kamala Harris’ Selection for VP Concerns Christian Leaders

Joe Biden called Kamala Harris a “fearless fighter for the little guy” and “one of the country’s finest public servants” when he announced her as his pick for vice president Tuesday.

Many Christian leaders and social conservatives, though, say Harris’ record on social conservative issues represents the left-wing of the Democratic Party.

“Kamala Harris is the poster child for the extreme pro-abortion position of the Democratic Party,” National Right to Life said in a statement.

R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said Harris consistently has chosen “the sexual revolution over religious liberty.”

Lila Rose, a Catholic and the president of Live Action, said Harris “prosecuted pro-life journalists when they dared investigate” Planned Parenthood’s “selling of baby parts.”

“She supports killing babies up until birth,” Rose tweeted.

Here are four reasons the selection of Harris by Biden troubles Christian and social conservative leaders:

Most pastors say adultery shouldn’t permanently disqualify clergy from ministry: survey

Most pastors believe church leaders who commit adultery should withdraw from the pulpit for some time, but only a small percentage believe extramarital affairs permanently disqualify pastors from the ministry.

“Pastors’ Views on Moral Failure,” a new survey of U.S. Protestant pastors by Nashville-based LifeWay Research, finds that most pastors believe a fellow pastor who has committed adultery needs to take time away from the ministry. However, opinions vary when it comes to the duration of the sabbatical.

The survey of 1,000 Protestant pastors found that around one in six pastors (16%) believe an offending pastor should stay gone for at least a year; 3% say for at least three months, and another 3% say at least six months.

Other pastors believe those who commit adultery should remove themselves from public ministry for a longer period of time: 10% say at least two years, 7% say at least five years, and 1% say at least 10 years.

Just 27% of pastors believe those who commit adultery should withdraw from public ministry permanently, and 2% of pastors believe a fellow pastor who has an affair does not need to take any time away. Three in 10 pastors (31%) say they aren’t sure…

Filmmaker Says Amazon Pulled His Documentary from Prime Video over Its Pro-Life Content

Filmmaker Says Amazon Pulled His Documentary from Prime Video over Its Pro-Life Content

A pro-life filmmaker says his documentary was wrongly pulled from Amazon Prime Video for its content.

Marcus Pittman’s “Babies are Still Murdered Here” film released in October, but Pittman says Amazon removed the movie because of poor reviews and complaints. Pittman, however, says the film received overwhelmingly positive reviews, The Christian Post reports.

“The movie has really good reviews,” Pittman said. “It has … over 340 reviews on Amazon. Most of them — 90 percent of them — are 5-star reviews.”

But Pittman says Amazon removed the movie because of its content.

“I realized that if you go and read the reviews of the movie … their AI [artificial intelligence] categorizes the reviews based on keywords that are pulled out from the customer reviews,” he said. “Some of those keywords were words, like ‘pro-life,’ ‘end abortion,’ ‘pro-life movement.’ And that, to me, is the only reason why they … would remove the movie.

“So, I think there is a lot of bias against Christianity that we’re going to see more and more on Amazon; especially as they grow.”
Amazon has faced criticism for reportedly censoring some products.

Last year, Amazon reportedly removed books by authors that described how Jesus helped stop their same-sex attraction.

Amazon is also not allowing some conservative groups to participate in its AmazonSmile program. The…

‘No Space for Us’: Democrats for Life Executive Director Speaks Out against Joe Biden

‘No Space for Us’: Democrats for Life Executive Director Speaks Out against Joe Biden

Executive Director of Democrats for Life Kristen Day spoke out against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal this week for ignoring their votes.

“Joe Biden would be the most pro-abortion president in history,” she wrote. “Although he was once a moderate, the Catholic former vice president now describes abortion as ‘essential health care,’ caved into the abortion industry on taxpayer funding, and has been proudly endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America, an organization that advocates for the repeal of all regulations on abortion.”

According to Day, many pro-life Democrats are also people of faith, a group that Biden also appears to be avoiding.

“The much-hyped group Believers for Biden is a bona fide flop,” she said. “It had only 26 followers on Facebook a week after being created. Its launch event on Zoom was poorly attended and featured a prayer touching on ‘reproductive justice.’ These efforts are in contrast with those of the Obama campaign, which many religious leaders praised for its earnest attempts at outreach and dialogue, especially to pro-life voters of faith.”

In an interview with CBN News, Day contrasted the current election to 2008 with former President Obama, stating that there is “no space made for pro-life Democrats.” Obama worked with Democrats for Life to find a middle…

Kamala Harris Is the ‘Most Pro-Abortion of Pro-Abortion Politicians,’ Nat’l Right to Life Says

Kamala Harris Is the ‘Most Pro-Abortion of Pro-Abortion Politicians,’ Nat’l Right to Life Says

Democratic vice-presidential selection Kamala Harris has a “0 percent” pro-life voting record and is the “most pro-abortion of pro-abortion politicians” Joe Biden could have chosen, according to National Right to Life.

Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, announced Harris as his running mate Tuesday, calling her a “fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.”

But National Right to Life says Harris is the “poster child for the extreme pro-abortion position of the Democratic Party.”

In a news release, National Right to Life noted that Harris:

  • opposes the Hyde Amendment and supports taxpayer funding of abortion.
  • opposed “legislation that would require that a baby born alive during an abortion must be afforded the same degree of care that would apply to any other child at the same gestational age.” In February, Harris helped block the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in the Senate.
  • opposed a “bill that would prohibit abortion when the unborn child can feel pain.” In February, Harris helped block the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the Senate.

Last year in a debate, Harris also pledged, as president, to use the Justice Department to block state-level pro-life laws.

“For any state that passes a law that violates the Constitution, and in particular Roe v. Wade, our Department…

Bindi Irwin Announces Pregnancy, Asks for Prayers for Her Future Baby

Bindi Irwin Announces Pregnancy, Asks for Prayers for Her Future Baby

A sweet photo announcing the Bindi Irwin pregnancy came less than 5 months after her wedding with Chandler Powell. And what a blessing for the newlyweds!

Since the death of the “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin in 2006, the world has watched his family carry on his legacy. So, the news of Bindi Irwin’s pregnancy is an exciting update for those following the Irwin family.

Bindi met her now husband, Chandler Powell, in November of 2013. Chandler, who is originally from Florida, used to travel the world to participate in wakeboarding competitions.

One such event brought him to Australia in 2013. In his downtime, he toured the Irwin family-owned Australian Zoo. And that’s where he met Bindi.

“It just so happened that Bindi was giving tours that day,” Chandler recalled, adding that the two hit it off immediately. “I’m like, ‘Wow she is amazing’.”

The couple weathered a long-distance relationship for some time. But Bindi was sure she’d “found the one.” In 2018, Chandler moved to Australia to be closer to Bindi. And by Bindi’s 21st birthday in 2019, the two got engaged.

2020 would be a big year for the couple. Not just because Steve Irwin’s daughter would marry Chandler Powell, but also because it would become the year of the Bindi Irwin pregnancy!

Chandler Powell and Bindi Irwin got married at the Australia Zoo on March 25, 2020. And while it was a beautiful wedding, many…
