DCLM Daily Manna 4 September 2018 – He Who Is Hallowed

Topic: He Who Is Hallowed [DCLM Daily Manna 4 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Psalm 104:1-23 (KJV)

Key Verse: “He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works” (Psalm 104:13).

MESSAGE:

The marvellous works of creation are a testimony to God’s power and majesty. The unfathomable number of the world’s valleys, the numerous expanses of landscapes, the breathtaking artistry of hills and the unspeakable varieties of land, water, animals and God’s greatness continually beats the imagination of science and philosophy.

In the passage today, a number of things about the Lord are revealed. He is “clothed with honour and majesty” (Psalm 104:1). He also covers Himself “with light as with a garment” and “… stretchest out the heavens like a curtain” (Psalm 104:2). Among other things, He “…maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire” (Psalm 104:4). He directs and controls nature the way He pleases (Psalm 104:5-23). Also, we learn from the psalmist that the Lord is good to all His creatures: “He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works” (Psalm 104:13). Even the beasts of the earth and all creation bow before Him.

The psalmist demonstrates an example of how believers should worship the Lord. In doing this, they fulfil their divine purpose on earth: “This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise” (Isaiah 43:21). The Lord adorns His redeemed in superlative proportion as: “a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a chosen generation and a peculiar people” (1 Peter 2:9). This awesome description is a reflection of His incredible glory and majesty. Therefore, we need to heartily worship God fittingly in the beauty of His holiness and majesty.

Thought For The Day: Praise and true worship constitute the believer’s heavenward indebtedness.

TREM 4 September 2018 Daily Devotional – You Have Been In-Christed

Topic: You Have Been In-Christed [TREM 4 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; all things are become new.’’ 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

Oftentimes, the problem with us as believers is that we fail to appropriate what God has already done for us in Christ. Beloved, whenever you see yourself as flesh, you are limited and you miss the point. God does not see you as you are in the flesh. He does not see you as a sinner or failure. No! He sees you in Christ because you have been ‘in-Christed’. When you made Jesus your Lord and Saviour, you became one with Him in the Spirit. Colossians 1:27 says that “… Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Beloved, simply put, Christ in you is the end of shame, embarrassment frustration, disappointment and failure. Remember, He quickened you, raised you up and made you to sit with Christ in heavenly places far above principalities and powers. That is why you can never fail.

With Jesus on the inside and working on the outside, you have more than what it takes to succeed. Jesus didn’t have to die, but He did so you can walk in royalty. He wants you to be blessed, so refuse to be satisfied with the crumbs. Put on a success mindset. Think big! Talk big! Meditate regularly on these truths and no power or circumstance can overwhelm you. Let the enemy know that the Greater One lives in you and he will flee from you. Don’t ever forget that what God has done for one is an evidence of what He will do for another. You will not be denied. I cancel every delay in your life. My God will grant you speed. He will compress time for you. I declare over your life that the things that hitherto stood against you will begin to bow to you. Whatever has resisted in the past will submit to you.

Billy Graham 4 September 2018 – The Greatest Work of Christ

Topic: The Greatest Work of Christ [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 4 September 2018]

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. — Ephesians 6:12

Jesus worked all His life. But the greatest work that Jesus did was not in the carpenter’s shop, nor even at the marriage feast of Cana where He turned the water into wine. The greatest work that Jesus did was not when He made the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the dumb to speak, nor even the dead to rise. The greatest work that Jesus did was not when He taught as One having authority, or when He scathingly denounced the Pharisees for their hypocrisy. The greatest work that Jesus did was not in the great ethical program He presented to mankind—that program which has become the foundation for Western culture. What, then, was His greatest work? His greatest work was achieved in those three dark hours on Calvary. Christ’s greatest work was His dying for us.

Prayer for the day: The battles of life must be faced, but I know they will not be faced without You, my heavenly Father.

Firefighters Try to Save Relics as Fire Engulfs Rio Museum – Urban Christian News

A huge fire engulfed Brazil’s 200-year-old National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, lighting up the night sky with towering flames as firefighters and museum workers raced to save historical relics from the blaze.

The esteemed museum, which houses artifacts from Egypt, Greco-Roman art and some of the first fossils found in Brazil, was closed to the public at the time of the fire, which broke out at 7:30 p.m. Sunday local time, it said in a statement.

There were no reports of injuries, the museum said, and it wasn’t immediately clear how the fire began.

Roberto Robadey, a spokesman for the fire department, said 80 firefighters were battling the blaze and that by midnight local time it was “just about under control” and should be out within a few hours.

President Michel Temer called it “a sad day for all Brazilians.”

“Two hundred years of work, investigation and knowledge have been lost,” Temer said in a statement.

According to its website, the museum has a vast collection related to the history of Brazil and other countries, and that many of its collections came from members of Brazil’s royal family.

Robadey said firefighters got off to a slow start fighting the blaze because the two fire hydrants closest to the museum were not functioning. Instead, trucks had to be sent to get water from a nearby lake.

But he added that some of the museum’s pieces had been spared.

“We were able to remove a lot of things from inside with the help of workers of the museum,” Robadey told Globo News.

Connected to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the museum has expositions…

Myanmar Court Sentences Reuters Reporters to 7 Years in Jail – Urban Christian News

A Myanmar court sentenced two Reuters journalists to seven years in prison Monday for illegal possession of official documents, a ruling met with international condemnation that will add to outrage over the military’s human rights abuses against Rohingya Muslims.

Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo had been reporting on the brutal crackdown on the Rohingya when they were arrested and charged with violating the colonial-era Official Secrets Act, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. They had pleaded not guilty, contending that they were framed by police.

“Today is a sad day for Myanmar, Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, and the press everywhere,” Stephen J. Adler, Reuters editor-in-chief, said in a statement. He said the charges were “designed to silence their reporting and intimidate the press.”

The case has drawn worldwide attention as an example of how democratic reforms in long-isolated Myanmar have stalled under the civilian government of Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, which took power in 2016. Though the military, which ruled the country for a half-century, maintains control of several key ministries, Suu Kyi’s rise to government had raised hopes for an accelerated transition to full democracy and her stance on the Rohingya crisis has disappointed many former admirers.

As the verdict was announced in the hot Yangon courtroom, Kyaw Soe Oo’s wife started crying, leaning into the lap of the person next to her. Outside the court, police and journalists shouted as the two Reuters reporters were led to a truck to be taken away.

“This is unfair,” Wa Lone…

Thousands Expected to Attend German Concert Against Far Right – Urban Christian News

Thousands of people are expected to attend a concert Monday evening in the eastern German city of Chemnitz against far-right protests.

The performances, by some of Germany’s most popular bands, come in reaction to a week of sometimes violent rallies by far-right groups against migrants — and leftist counter protests.

The nationalists’ protests were triggered by the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old German man in Chemnitz on Aug. 26, allegedly by two migrants from Iraq and Syria.

The tension that has built up over the past week in Chemnitz reflects the growing polarization over Germany’s ongoing efforts to come to terms with an influx of more than 1 million refugees and migrants to the country since 2015.

The concert, which is being promoted under the #WeAreMore hashtag, is part of an effort by German civil society to position itself against the growing far-right movement in parts of Germany.

Former Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel on Monday harshly criticized the political establishment for being too passive when it comes to fighting far-right groups in Germany and asked them to make a stronger showing in places with simmering discontent and anti-migrant sentiment.

“I think it would be good if as many representatives as possible — not only in Chemnitz but everywhere — go to places where we think the citizens are not agreeing with our state,” he said.

But, Gabriel added, there was a clear line between angry citizens and those inciting the people with hatred.

“We have to go with toughness after these terrorists,” he said in an interview with Bild Television adding…

UN Agency Says Smugglers Are Taking Greater Risks to Ferry Migrants Toward Europe – Urban Christian News

People smugglers are taking greater risks to ferry their human cargo toward Europe as Libya’s coast guard intercepts more and more boats carrying migrants, increasing the likelihood that those on board may die during the Mediterranean journeys, the U.N. refugee agency said Monday.

That’s one of the key findings from a new UNHCR report about efforts to reach Europe. The report, titled “Desperate Journeys,” said that even though the number of crossings and deaths has plunged compared to recent years, the voyage is more deadly in percentage terms for those who venture across.

It said that 2,276 people died last year while trying to cross, or one death for every 42 arrivals.

This year, it’s 1,095 deaths, or one out of every 18 arrivals. In June alone, the proportion hit one death for every seven arrivals.

On the Central Mediterranean route so far this year, there have been 10 separate incidents in which 50 or more people died — most after departing from Libya. Seven of those incidents have been since June alone, UNHCR said.

“The reason the traffic has become more deadly is that the traffickers are taking more risk, because there is more surveillance exercised by the Libyan coast guards,” said Vincent Cochetel, UNHCR’s special envoy for the central Mediterranean. “They are trying to cut the costs: It costs them more to keep those people here longer in their warehouses, under captivity.”

Libyan authorities intercepted or rescued 18,400 people between August last year and July this year — a 38-percent increase from the same period of 2016 and 2017. Arrivals by sea…

A Student Fights to Tell Her Story as MeToo Unnerves China – Urban Christian News

The sight of five burly guards blocking the way out of her dorm filled Ren Liping with rage.

It was 3 a.m. on a recent Saturday and the thin, bespectacled 26-year-old Chinese graduate student was exhausted. Her mind raced back to earlier in the day when she had tried once again to publicly protest her alleged rape. Again, the police had stopped her and held her at a station for hours. Again, she was escorted back to campus.

Now this.

She pounded on the glass door with her fist, but the men ignored her. “This is illegal!” she shouted, to no response. She felt nauseous. Her face was numb. She picked up a bicycle pump in the corner and smashed it against the glass.

The door shattered.

“Whoever tries to suppress my case will end up like this door,” Ren said to the men.

More than a year after she accused an ex-boyfriend of raping her on the China University of Petroleum campus in the coastal city of Qingdao, this had become Ren’s life: a series of attempts to protest the university and authorities’ mishandling of the case.

At every turn, Ren has been stymied by the school’s guards or the police, who say there’s no evidence of a crime. She was even detained in a hotel for six days at one point.

Her efforts highlight at once the challenges of reporting sexual assault in China and the determination of a new generation of Chinese women pushing the country into its own #MeToo moment despite attempts to silence them.

The movement has gathered considerable steam in China, with dozens of men, including prominent media personalities, non-profit advocates and even a top monk,…

Open Heavens 4 September 2018 – Be Swift in your Business

Open Heavens 4 September 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Be Swift in your Business

Topic: Be Swift in your Business

Memorise: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;”– Romans 12:11

Read: 1 Samuel 17:48-51 (KJV)

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 111-118, Mark 2:1-17

Open Heavens 4 September 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

When you critically study the life of our Lord, you will observe that He was a man who swiftly went about accomplishing His mission (John 9:4). He was in such a hurry to finish His task (Matthew 17:17). Amazingly, the everlasting impact He made took just three and a half years to accomplish. If you want to be like your Master indeed, I encourage you to be diligent, not only in your service to God in the Church, but also in your job or business. Our Father in heaven is not slothful in carrying out His assignments. Speaking about the Father’s work ethic, Jesus in John 5:17b said:

“My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.”

The Holy Spirit’s admonition on our expected work standard in today’s memory verse is profound because it captures the three aspects of our being: body, soul and spirit. Our Christian experience must affect these three dimensions of our lives before we can say we are living according to God’s will for us. Physically, we must be industrious in our day to day activities. Don’t be deceived into believing that once you are born again, manna will begin to fall from heaven to sustain you. Remember that the rain of manna stopped immediately the children of Israel entered the Promised Land. They had to settle down to cultivate the land for a bumper harvest from God. However, pursuing your physical activity with vigour should not come at the expense of your spiritual life. In this regard, always have the words of Deuteronomy 8:18 at the back of your mind:

“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

You need to learn some great lesson from David’s attitude in swiftly doing the needful in other to triumph over Goliath in today’s Bible reading. Beyond the fact that he was fervent in spirit, he was also physically alert in getting his job done. He did not allow the battle to meet him standing still. 1 Samuel 17:48 tells us what he did:

“And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.”

He quickly took the battle to the enemy on his own terms. The story gets even more interesting after Goliath fell. Observing that Goliath might have been knocked unconscious or might be feigning death, David ran to where he fell, climbed over him and cut off his head with Goliath’s own sword, putting an end to any hope of his resurgence. I prophesy over you today that your enemies will be totally decapitated and you will have complete peace in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Open Heavens 4 September 2018 Tuesday

Father, to the glory of Your Name, please quicken my body, soul and spirit to be swift and diligent in all my assignments in life, in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heavens 4 September 2018 Tuesday Hymn 4: Trust and Obey

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

China’s President Xi Pledges $60 Billion in Financing for Africa – Urban Christian News

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged $60 billion in financing for projects in Africa in the form of assistance, investment and loans, as China furthers efforts to link the continent’s economic prospects to its own.

Speaking to a gathering of African leaders in Beijing, Xi said the figure includes $15 billion in grants, interest-free loans and concessional loans, $20 billion in credit lines, $10 billion for “development financing” and $5 billion to buy imports from Africa.

In addition, he said China will encourage companies to invest at least $10 billion in Africa over the next three years.

China’s outreach to Africa aims to build trade, investment and political ties with a continent often seen as overlooked by the U.S. and other Western nations. That has provided lucrative opportunities for Chinese businesses, while African nations are often happy to accept China’s offers that come without demands for safeguards against corruption, waste and environmental damage.

No details were given on specific projects, although Xi said China was planning initiatives in eight areas, including providing $147 million in emergency food aid, sending 500 agricultural experts to Africa, and providing scholarships, vocational training and trade promotion opportunities.

The pledge comes on top of a 2015 promise to provide African countries with $60 billion in funding that Xi said had either been delivered or arranged.

Also Monday, Xi promoted Beijing’s initiative to build ports and other infrastructure as a tool for “common prosperity” in a world facing challenges from trade…
