Open Heavens 13 August 2018 – Don’t Eat Your Destiny

Topic: Don’t Eat Your Destiny [Open Heavens 13 August 2018 Monday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”- Luke 4:4

Read: Genesis 25:29-34 (KJV)

29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:

30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Bible in One Year: Job 39-42, Matthew 19:13-30

Open Heavens 13 August 2018 MESSAGE:

Food can be very powerful. Adam and eve lost their life of bliss, peace and abundance, glory and honor to food. It is rather unfortunate that many people today are still losing their great destiny to food. It is amazing that in spite of the abundant food provided by God for Adam and eve, they still developed an appetite for that which was forbidden. It is quite easy to look at them now and judge them, but when you look at the world today and see how food is wrecking the lives of many, you will be shocked. To fast is the most difficult thing for some people because their belly has become their master, and even in some cases, their god (Philippians 3:19). When you read the account of how food destroyed Esau’s destiny and consider that the devil also tried to use food to destroy the destiny of our Lord, you will realize that addiction to food can actually devastate a person’s life.

In Genesis 25:29-34, poor Esau had just returned from his hunting expedition with juicy bush meat. However, instead of settling down to prepare a meal with it, he lusted after Jacob’s pottage, which was ready to eat. Unknown to him, Jacob had been eyeing his privilege as the first born. It did not take Jacob mush time to start bargaining with Esau for what he had always desired from birth. While Esau lusted for food, Jacob lusted for the birthright of the firstborn. Within a few minutes, they struck a bargain: Esau got the food he desired and Jacob went away with the privilege of the firstborn. By the time Esau realized the value of the birthright he sold for food, it was too late (Hebrews 12:16-17). It may sound unbelievable, but many ladies have sold their pride of virginity for food. Many housewives have become unfaithful to their husbands because of the generosity of a man who comes to their aid when there is no food at home. A good number of men are now polygamous because they could not control their appetite for delicious meals of strange women. Beloved, here’s the good news: although the first Adam fell for food, the second Adam triumphed over the temptation of food brought by the same tempter (Luke 4:3-4). As seen from Christ’s example, the only way to avoid falling into the devil’s temptation is to heed the word of God. If you will overcome the devil in the area of food, the end can never justify the means for you. A stone that is turned into bread will never digest if you happen to eat it; it is just a lie designed by the devil to steal from you. So please, don’t eat your destiny. Rather, be guided by the word of God. A job you get by sleeping with the personnel manage will not last; it will only bring sorrow and great disappointment to your life. Be wise today.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to value faithfulness to Your word above anything like food that represents a means of survival.

Open Heavens 13 August 2018 Hymn 18: Conqueror and Overcomers Now Are We

1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can e’er prevail.

Chorus
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.

2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.

3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

Man at centre of Christian camp abuse claims dies

John Smyth apparently died of a sudden heart attack following recent cardiac surgery, his family told the BBC.

It has been alleged the former lawyer sadistically abused teenagers at events run at Winchester College in Hampshire during the 1970s and 1980s.

From 1974 until 1981, Mr Smyth was chair of the Iwerne Trust, the group which organised the camps.

A Channel 4 documentary broadcast last year claimed the Trust did not inform police when it was made aware of the allegations against Smyth.

The Bishop of Guildford Rt Rev Andrew Watson came forward in February 2017 to claim he survived one occasion of abuse at the hands of John Smyth.

Mr Smyth’s death comes after police in Hampshire reportedly requested that he travel to the UK for questioning.

Two years after assault allegations first surfaced in 1982, he moved to Zimbabwe – where it has also been claimed he abuse youngsters at several camps he founded.

He was accused of the culpable homicide of a teenager whose body was found naked in a school swimming pool in Zimbabwe. The prosecution was later dropped.

Mr Smyth subsequently moved to South Africa.

The scandal over accusations of abuse against Mr Smyth prompted Archbishop of Welby Most Rev Justin Welby, who worked at Iwerne Trust camps during the 1970s, to say last year that he had been “completely unaware” of any abuse…

Defrocked monk charged with Coptic bishop’s murder

It is understood Wael Saad admitted killing 64-year-old Bishop Epiphanius with an iron pole at a monastery north-west of Cairo last month.

The Coptic Orthodox leader’s body was discovered in a pool of blood on 29th July at the St Makarious Monastery, where he served as an abbot.

Days later, church leaders announced that Mr Saad had been under investigation since the start of the year and he had also been defrocked.

He is currently in detention, pending further enquiries.

The development comes after the Egypt Independent newspaper reported on Saturday that a second monk has been hospitalised after throwing himself from the tallest building in the monastery.

The death of Bishop Epiphanius sent shockwaves through the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Coptic clergy were ordered to shut down their accounts on social media websites like Twitter and monk recruitment has been paused.

Fr Mercurius of the St Makarious Monastery told the Guardian newspaper: “The situation is suffering and agony – we are not able to talk about such things.

“We still don’t have a motive announced, though those of us who follow the church affairs closely have become aware of that motive.”

Egypt’s Christian minority compromises approximately ten per cent of the country’s population.

without Jesus we would be hopeless

Richard Russell took off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in a 76-seater Horizon Air Q400 which he used to perform dangerous manoeuvres before the aircraft came down in Puget Sound.

His family said in a statement read to reporters: “This is a complete shock to us.

“We are devastated by these events and Jesus is truly the only one holding this family together right now; without him, we would be hopeless.”

Two F-15C military jets were dispatched to pursue the plane during its 75-minute flight but authorities say they did not open fire.

A recording has emerged of an air traffic controller trying to convince Mr Russell to land the plane.

It captured him later saying: “I’ve got a lot of people that care about me.

“It’s going to disappoint them to hear that I did this… Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose, I guess.”

Mr Russell, whose nickname was Beebo, had worked for three-and-a-half years at Horizon Air – a subsidary of Alaska Air.

Bettina Hansen/The Seattle Times via AP

Officials say that, as a ground service agent, he had clearance to be among aircraft.

According to the CEO of Horizon Air, Gary Beck, it is not clear how Mr Russell knew how to start the engine.

The family’s statement described Mr Russell as a “faithful husband, loving son and good…

Manchester church leader calls for prayer after ten people injured in shooting

Rev Tony Hardy said the incident on Claremont Road was “very sad” for a neighbourhood where levels of violent crime had been “improving” in recent years.

The rector of St James Moss Side told Premier: “Some people are injured, quite seriously, I think.

“So, we could pray that they’ll recover fully… and we want to pray, really, that this kind of violence doesn’t develop.”

Armed and unarmed police officers were called to the district at around 2.30am.

A Caribbean Carnival had finished hours earlier. A number of people were in the street.

Peter Byrne/PA Wire

Greater Manchester Police said the injuries range from minor to major but the majority do not appear to be life-threatening.

Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley said: “We currently have a number of people in hospital all being treated for different injuries but thankfully most do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

“Officers are trying to establish exactly where this incident took place and who is responsible for such a dangerous attack.

Peter Byrne/PA Wire

“Those living or visiting the area will understandably be concerned by this incident and we will have extra officers patrolling the area throughout the morning and into the coming days.”

In a message to families of those hurt, Rev Hardy added: “We do love you.

“We’ll be praying for you.

Ban burkas in places where security and safety is a concern, bishop says

Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, warned Islamic dress was being “weaponised by Islamists”, and that it had “implications for integration and social cohesion”.

The Pakistani-born cleric, who led the Diocese of Rochester between 1994 and 2009, also said the garments should be outlawed in a variety of places “for reasons of national security”.

He told the Mail on Sunday: “We have all seen how even male terrorists have escaped arrest by donning a burka and making an effective getaway.

“For reasons of national security, there will be places like Parliament or Whitehall or town halls and council chambers where the burka should not be allowed.”

He also said many professions “require personal interaction with the client”, and that the trader and customer should be able to see each other’s faces.

PA

“This is even more true of doctors, dentists, nurses and paramedics,” he added.

His comments come amid an escalating row over a newspaper column by former foreign secretary Boris Johnson (pictured above).

Mr Johnson has faced ongoing criticism for his description of Muslim women in face-covering veils as looking like letter-boxes or bank robbers.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 12 August 2018 Devotional — Preparing for the Best

Topic: Preparing for the Best [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday August 12, 2018]

“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].” — Isaiah 26:3 (AMP)

How we approach each new day and each new situation makes a huge difference. If we decide ahead of time that we won’t be happy or peaceful unless we get exactly what we want, then we will rarely be at peace.

I have heard people say things like, “If it rains tomorrow I am not going to be happy,” or “If I don’t get the job, I am going to be so upset.” When we think thoughts such as this, we are setting ourselves up to be unhappy and to lose our peace and joy before we even have a problem.

Instead of preparing to be upset, we can prepare to be at peace. We can think and speak things like, “I really hope the weather is nice tomorrow, and I hope I get this new job. But my joy comes from my relationship with Jesus, so I choose to be happy and have rest in my soul no matter what I come up against tomorrow. Whether it’s rainy or sunny, whether I get the job or not, I choose the joy of the Lord!”

The way we approach our lives makes all the difference in the quality of life we can have. When we can’t fix life, let’s remember that we can fix our approach toward it.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to approach life today with a godly attitude—positive and full of faith. Help me to make a habit of preparing for the best in every situation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

TOPIC: Moving from Suffering to Glory (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 12 August 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Job 42:12-13

MEMORY VERSE: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” – Romans 8:18

The MESSAGE:

When God finished His creation, He concluded in Genesis 1:31 that it was very good. He had created everything glorious and wonderful, and they remained so until Adam surrendered his authority and privileges to the devil. From that point on, the experience of man changed from comfort to pain, glory to shame, pleasure to hardship and dominion to demotion. Today, the creation is subject to groaning, vanity, bondage, decay, unfruitfulness and oppression. All these unfavourable situations definitely have expiry dates, and these shall be relief for the children of God.

Paul compared the groaning to a woman in travail who is experiencing pain, but the pain will end when the child is delivered and she will enter into the joy of carrying her baby. One day, creation will be delivered and the groaning creation will become a glorious creation. The believer should not focus on today’s sufferings but rather look forward to tomorrow’s glory. For the believer, today’s groaning bondage will be exchanged for tomorrow’s glorious liberty just as the woman moves from pain to glory. Even though we suffer certain things now, we should ensure we renew our inward man every day. We should bear in mind that the present affliction is for a brief moment but the glory, which will appear thereafter, is eternal. It is certain that the present suffering cannot be compared with the eternal peace, rest and joy that Jesus has promised us. Our focus should be on the eternal home; therefore, we must apply strong determination in enduring the present affliction, which is purely temporal in order to enter into the glory, which is eternal. Job in his days suffered affliction and despite its intensity and harshness, it lasted only for a brief moment. Even though he was tortured, despised and rejected by friends and family members, he still held firmly to God. He did not forsake God but rather expressed the faith that would see God when he passes on from this world. God, the story changer, came to his rescue and delivered him from the oppression of the devil and restored to him in multiples all that satan had stolen from him. However, ensure you have no ladder (secret sin) in your life that empowers the public enemy -satan -to gain access to your life, thereby strengthening or expanding problems. Be faithful to the end.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
YOUR PRESENT AFFLICTION IS BUT FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, BUT THE GLORY WHICH WILL APPEAR THEREAFTER IS ETERNAL.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your groaning today will be exchanged for tomorrow’s glory.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Affliction shall not write the last chapter of my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. O God my Father, increase my faith and empower me to endure the present affliction until You deliver me, in the name of Jesus.
3. Tormentors assigned against my life, lose your hold by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Angels of deliverance, come to my aid and deliver me, in the name of Jesus.
5. I shall laugh last over those despising me, in the name of Jesus.
6. I decree my total deliverance by fire, in the name of Jesus.
7. I move from suffering to glory by the power in the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
