Christian Camps Get Creative to Attract Youth in a Tech-Distracted Age

Nearly half of the estimated 14 million American youth going to camp this summer will be attending Christian camps to escape from home, play games with new friends, unplug from technology and seek God in nature.

Fun and faith formation remain the foundation of Christian camping. But kids now enjoy a greater range of activities, including motocross, robotics and theater. At least one camp hosts a weeklong session for kids undergoing gender transitions.

“Christian camping gives kids the opportunity to get away, clear their heads, unplug from tech and hear a message of God’s love for them,” said Gregg Hunter, president and CEO of the Christian Camp and Conference Association, based in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Christian youth worker calls on Love Island to be more inclusive

Her comments follow a new ComRes survey that found more than half of 18 to 34-year-olds feel that reality TV and social media have a negative effect on how they see their bodies.

Jessie Smart, from the Christian Ministry Belle told Premier shows like Love Island can make young people have unrealistic ideas of the way their bodies are supposed to be.

Speaking during Premier News Hour, she said: “We all know they’re all a similar kind of look of people. They fulfil what society considers as attractive.

“And actually what we need to do is start to widen that and show people who are representative of real life.”

She said while she missed the final, both her and her husband had watched previous episodes.

Explaining why, she said: “I’m a youth pastor, he’s a kid’s pastor and obviously I do a lot of work with girls on body image… just knowing the sort of influence that it has on the way we view our bodies, I wanted to be a part of that conversation.

“And I actually wanted to be able to chat with the young people in my youth group about what they thought about it and whether they were watching it and be able to have all of these conversations and be able to give a different voice among them.”

An average of 3.6 million people tuned in on Monday night to watch the winners crowned – breaking audience records for ITV2.

The head of NHS England raised concerns about seeing…

Judge: Christian Parents Who Don’t Like New Transgender Policy Can Pull Their Children From School

Judge: Christian Parents Who Don’t Like New Transgender Policy Can Pull Their Children From School

A U.S. federal judge ruled last week that students have the right to use the restrooms, locker rooms and showers of those of the opposite gender in a public school, and that parents who don’t like the policy can pull their children out of school.

The case in Oregon arose when Dallas High School in Dallas, Ore., adopted a new policy allowing transgender students to use gender-specific facilities that correspond with their self-identified gender and not their birth gender. A group of parents then sued, saying their beliefs and Christian faith prevent their children from using the restroom and undressing in the presence of the opposite sex.

But in his ruling, U.S. District Judge Marco Hernandez – a nominee of President Obama — said the transgender students have the right to use gender-specific facilities. The school has a female student who identifies as a boy and wishes to use male restrooms, dressing rooms and showers.

“Forcing transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity would undoubtedly harm those students and prevent them from equally accessing educational opportunities and resources,” Hernandez wrote. “Such an injunction or District policy would punish transgender students for their gender nonconformity and constitute a form of sex-stereotyping.”

If the parents don’t like they new…

Lee Strobel Talks Reaching Nonbelievers for Jesus, Praying for His Atheist Brother for 17 Years

(Screenshot: Vimeo/Toby Canning)Lee Strobel in a Vimeo video talking about Easter, uploaded in March 2018.

Looking back at those who have undergone major transformations as they became followers of Jesus Christ, Lee Strobel, author of The Case for Christ, stressed the need for evangelism. He also revealed that he continues praying for his atheist brother to this day.

Strobel, once an atheist journalist intent on disproving God who later found Christ, talked in-depth about the importance of evangelism with Roger Marsh of the Family Talk program, which is produced by the James Dobson Family Institute.

Strobel, who became a pastor and has been writing books looking to point others to the faith, began his two-part discussion on Monday by explaining that the “overriding passion” of his life is “to share the good news of Jesus Christ with people who don’t know Him.”

“I’m an evangelist at the depth of my heart, and I see evangelism not as just something that people gifted in evangelism do, but something we’re all called upon to do. We’re all called upon to share our faith,” he stressed.

“What I’ve found is if four things are true of you, if you are motivated to share your faith because of the love of Jesus Christ in you, if you are available to share your faith, if you make…

Diocese of Leeds facing ‘serious financial situation’

A letter sent to all members of the Leeds diocesan synod asks for prayer as senior staff tackle a £3 million deficit.

The diocese was formed four years as a merger between the diocese of Bradford, Ripon and Leeds, and Wakefield.

It’s headed up by Rt Rev Nick Baines (pictured), employs 110 people and serves 460 parishes.

In a statement acknowledging the financial difficulties, a spokesman said: “The measures needed to deliver a balanced budget will impact on the organisation and staff in different ways – we are deeply concerned for all members of our staff teams and all impacted by the decisions we need to take.

“A strong future demands strong action now.

“We are grateful for the understanding and support of colleagues as we work through the challenges before us.”

Although part of the Church of England, each diocese is financially independent.

The difficulties faced by Leeds have led to some calling for a change.

Writing on Twitter, Bishop of Burnley Rt Rev Philip North said: “A northern diocese ‘in crisis’ because of a debt of less than 1% of the funds held by some southern dioceses.

“This ‘crisis’ is no more than a symptom of a much deeper financial and spiritual institutional sickness. The solution is in Acts 2.”

New Bible Survey Reveals Christians’ Bible Reading Habits

New Bible Survey Reveals Christians’ Bible Reading Habits

The average Bible reader spent 24 out of the last 30 days reading Scripture in the early morning, read the Old Testament far less frequently than the New Testament, and found the Prophetic books of the Old Testament the most difficult to understand.

That’s according to a survey of 6,000 Bible readers by the Christian book publisher Crossway that examined Bible reading habits of those who read Scripture regularly.

Among the findings:

  • Early morning is the most popular time of the day to read the Bible. Bible readers spent, on average, 24 days of the past 30 days reading Scripture in the early morning. The second most popular time was late morning (21.59 days), and the third most popular time early afternoon (20.75 days). Late evening (19.02 days) was the least popular time.

  • “Women are more likely than men to journal and use devotional resources” while reading Scripture. Men use commentaries more frequently than do women.

  • The Old Testament Prophetic books (Isaiah-Malachi) are the section of Scripture hardest to understand.

  • Nahum is the book least likely to have been read in the past month. Matthew and Psalms are the books most likely to have been read during that time.

  • The Old Testament is far less likely to have been read in the past month than the New Testament. Genesis, Psalms, Proverbs and Isaiah are the Old Testament books most likely to have been…

Call to end discrimination after its revealed UK rescued Manchester Arena bomber in Libya

Salman Abedi was 19 when he boarded the HMS Enterprise in Tripoli in August 2014 with his younger brother Hashem and more than 100 other British citizens.

It is understood Abedi’s name was on a list of stranded citizens handed to the crew in charge of the evacuation.

The vessel took them to Malta where they caught a flight back to the UK.

In May last year, he killed 22 people including seven children at an Ariana Grande concert with a homemade suicide vest.

Dr Hilton, who blogs through the Archbishop Cramner website told Premier it’s a sad and tragic situation, but people should not use this as grounds to categorise all refugees.

“What we can’t do from this is extrapolate how we should treat all of those seeking any kind of asylum. We must not forget he was a British citizen, we had an obligation toward him and his family,” he said.

“It wasn’t a case of no we can’t take you, stay in Libya – we were obliged to do so.

Dr Hilton added that the Bible gives the perfect example of how asylum seekers are supposed to be treated.

“The parable of the Good Samaritan is unequivocal in its view and advice to us on this,” he said.

“We shouldn’t discriminate against people on the grounds of ethnicity, or…

Military Bible Display at Center of Religious Liberty Tussle

Military Bible Display at Center of Religious Liberty Tussle

A Bible placed on a memorial table at a Wyoming Air Force base is at the center of an ongoing battle over what constitutes religious liberty and what violates it.

In response to demands by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, Col. Stacy J. Huser, commander of the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne, Wyo., recently ordered that a Bible be removed from the base’s “Missing Man” table. The table, a POW/MIA memorial common in military base dining halls, hospitals and ceremonies since the Vietnam War, is set for a meal in honor of prisoners of war, the missing in action and the fallen. A Bible is traditionally placed on the table.

But Mikey Weinstein, founder and president of the foundation, said the Bible violates the civil rights of military personnel, many of whom “have been abused in the military for not being Christian enough.” Weinstein, a former Air Force officer and firebrand lawyer, claims to represent more than 50,000 anonymous clients worldwide, many of them Christians.

‘Activist Mommy’ Blasts SELF Magazine for Trivializing Abortion With Beyoncé Music Advice

(PHOTO: FACEBOOK/VIDEO SCREENSHOT/ELIZABETH JOHNSTON)‘Activist Mommy’ Elizabeth Johnston says she’s not ‘going to celebrate’ the ‘mental disorders’ of people who identify themselves with things other than their true biological selves.

An outspoken Christian mom vlogger and conservative activist is slamming SELF magazine for an article advising women about what music to listen to while undergoing abortions.

In the July 24 article, “15 Ways To Mentally and Physically Prepare for Your Abortion,” the women’s health and wellness magazine tells readers that “your doctor may be required by law to lie to you or give you written materials with false information about abortion” and says that abortion carries fewer risks and complications than giving birth. An abortion doula quoted in the piece offers as an “empowering” method of preparation “stream[ing] Beyoncé before, during, and after your procedure if you want” and recommends a meditation app.

Elizabeth Johnston, who is also known as The Activist Mommy, commented Saturday: “I can’t decide if the lifestyle magazines recommendations are more infuriating or poignant, considering how very much their article seems to expose what a horrific and traumatizing thing abortion is.”

The magazine further suggests to those seeking abortions that playing ones favorite music, is “something to drown out the vacuum so you won’t be triggered the rest of your life when you vacuum or hear a dentist drill.”
