Pray for St. Andrew’s Anglican Church

Location: Endicott, New York

Pastor: Tony Seel

Weekly Worship: 10:00 AM, Eastern

Fast Facts: St. Andrew’s was founded in 1949 in Vestal, NY, a community of roughly 10,000 people. The church grew under the founding pastor to over 200 members, but during the tenure of the second pastor, layoffs and relocations at nearby IBM resulted in a number of members leaving the area. In the mid 2000s, the church began praying and studying Scripture about whether it should continue in the Episcopal Church after the church’s stance on biblical sexuality changed. St. Andrew’s left the Episcopal Church in 2007 and moved into rented space at a nearby Baptist church and continued to meet. In 2012, St. Andrew’s purchased its current church building in nearby Endicott, NY, and has been working hard to connect with our its community. Please pray for their Vacation Bible School coming up the second week of August their Fall barbecue chicken ourtreach. Finally, please pray that they continue to effectively communicate the gospel through the church and through their personal lives.

Pope punishes US cardinal after sex abuse claims

The Vatican announced on Saturday that Francis ordered McCarrick to conduct a “life of prayer and penance” even before a church trial is held.

Breaking with past practice, Francis decided to act swiftly in the case of the emeritus archbishop of Washington DC even before the accusations can be investigated by church officials.

McCarrick was previously one of the highest, most well-known Catholic church officials in the United States and was heavily involved in the church’s response to allegations of priestly abuse.

The pope has ordered McCarrick’s “suspension from the exercise of any public ministry, together with the obligation to remain in a house yet to be indicated to him, for a life of prayer and penance until the accusations made against him are examined in a regular canonical trial”.

Among the boys McCarrick allegedly abused was a child he had baptised shortly after he was ordained a priest.

Francis received McCarrick’s letter offering to resign from the College of Cardinals on Friday evening, after recent weeks brought a spate of allegations that the 88-year-old prelate had for years sexually abused boys and had sexual misconduct with seminarians.

The McCarrick case posed a test of the pontiff’s recently declared resolve to battle what he called a “culture of cover-up” of similar abuses in the Catholic…

Nigerian mega-church pastor tells President to resign

Bishop David Oyedepo spoke to members of his mega-church in Lagos about his concerns about Muhammadu Buhari not doing enough to curtail violence towards Christians in the West African nation.

He asked: “How many want the killings to continue? How many want to see pastors in churches slaughtered? How many people want to see worshippers like we had it in Benue… where two priests and 17 worshippers were slayed in cold blood and nobody was arrested?

“Even our Islamic friends in the north are calling for [the president] to resign… or are we going to watch and see one system destroy a whole nation? Enough is enough.”

According to research by Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Muslim Fulani herder militia perpetrated at least 106 attacks on communities in central Nigeria in the first quarter of 2018 alone, claiming 1,061 lives.

The Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Elders Forum, Bosun Emmanuel, claimed recently that the present generation of Christians in Nigeria risk being the last.

He said Mr Buhari “is openly pursuing an anti-Christian agenda that has resulted in countless murders of Christians all over the nation and destruction of vulnerable Christian communities”.

Echoing this, Bishop David shared his advice to the Muslim president.

“The most honourable thing for any non-performing leader is to resign,” he said.

“That’s my word for Mr President – resign. Get out…

No Christians among 1,112 Syrian refugees resettled in UK

The four Christians out of 1,358 Syrian refugees recommended by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for resettlement in the UK were rejected. Only Muslim refugees from the war-torn country were granted permission to resettle.

The information came to light following a freedom of information request by the Barnabas Fund – a charity that supports persecuted Christians.

In a statement, the charity said: “As Barnabas Fund recently reported, of the 7,060 Syrian refugees the UNHCR recommended to the UK in 2017 only 25 were Christians (0.35 per cent). However, the Home Office only accepted eleven of these – meaning that Christians made up only 0.23 per cent of Syrian refugees resettled in the UK last year.”

The charity explained it had to “go to considerable lengths to obtain these figures in the face of what appeared to be a sustained attempt by Home Office officials to avoid their release”.

The information was provided following the charity taking the “extreme step of obtaining an order from the Information Commissioner’s Office threatening the Home Office with contempt of court proceedings in the High Court”.

The statement went on to say: “It is widely accepted that Christians, who constituted around 10 per cent of Syria’s pre-war population, were specifically targeted by jihadi rebels and continue to be at…

Allowing former Archbishop of Canterbury back to ministry ‘further distressed abuse victims’

Lord Carey, former archbishop of Canterbury, resigned as honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Oxford after a damning review last year found that senior Church of England officials colluded with Peter Ball, who abused young men.

Bishop Peter Hancock, the Church of England’s lead safeguarding bishop, said he was not consulted on the decision to grant Lord Carey Permission to Officiate (PTO) – allowing him to preach and give communion in his ownchurch – earlier this year, and would have advised against it.

He told BBC Radio 4 programme Sunday: “My understanding is the national safeguarding team were not consulted, I’m sure that’s right.

“I think both I and the national safeguarding team would have advised that that was not the right action to take.”

He added: “I regret it (the decision to grant the PTO) not because I want to intervene in matters that relate to another diocese, but just because what I hear from those I speak to, which are the victims, the survivors, those who are particularly troubled by thechurch’s actions, that see this, perceive this and believe this to be something which has caused them more distress and it’s for that reason…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 29 July 2018 Devotional — Step

Topic: Step [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday July 29, 2018]

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. — Philippians 4:8

Today, I want to encourage you to do whatever God leads you to do. You may not have all the answers, and you may not know every step to take, but by faith you can take the first step. Maybe that step is:

  • Applying for a class at your local community college
  • Forgiving the person you’ve held a grudge against
  • Going to church for the first time in years
  • Making an appointment with a nutritionist
  • Sending out a résumé
  • Calling an adoption agency
  • Praying a bold prayer, asking God for what seems impossible

You’ve waited, grieved, or made excuses long enough. Now it’s time to believe. Take a step and watch what God can do!

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me today to take a step of faith and do what You’ve placed in my heart to do. I know You are greater than my fears and worries, and You’ll be with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 29 July 2018 – Live Not By Bread

TOPIC: Live Not By Bread (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 29 July 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 6:32-35

MEMORY VERSE: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” – Joshua 1:8

The MESSAGE:

The word “bread” in the Bible sometimes is used as a metaphor for life’s necessities (Psalm 37:25). Jesus Christ fed no fewer than 5,000 people at a time (Matthew 14:13-21). At another time, He fed 4,000 people (Mark 8:1-9). Physical bread is the oldest staple food in the world. The pleasure/enjoyment of physical bread is temporary. It does not last for long. It is meant for self satisfaction, nourishment and physical energy. This is what most of us focused on and are running after. This explains why some of us are not experiencing meaningful spiritual progress and advancement in our lives today. Living solely on physical bread will amount to fulfilling the lust of the flesh, which produces or manifests the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-21): hatred, fornication, backsliding, and talkativeness, inability to memorise the Scriptures, worldliness, being proud and full of noise. Living solely on physical bread weakens the growth of the spirit man. It extinguishes the fire of the spirit man and keeps one low spiritually.

The other type of bread is the spiritual bread. This bread is the word of God. It is the living bread meant to give life to our mortal body. The amount of spiritual strength we have depends on the quantity of the word of God in us. Studying the word of God is feeding our spirit with spiritual bread which nourishes our lives. Many believers today are physically well-fed but spiritually malnourished because they lack spiritual nutrient that their body, soul and spirit need to function effectively. These nutrients are derived from the spiritual bread, and they provide healing and total restoration for the body, soul and spirit.

Beloved, live not by bread alone but by the word of God. Living by the word of God (spiritual bread) allows for spiritual growth because the word of God is spiritual food. When you live by the word of God, you will be full of the power of God and carry the presence of God with His anointing. You become a mobile Bible, speaking the word of God with boldness and full of the Holy Ghost. You become a man/woman of authority and power (Psalm 33:6-9). It prepares you for heaven and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It makes you to live a righteous and upright life. Living by the word of God keeps you clean and free from sin. Psalm 119:9-11 affirms, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” If you live by the word of God, you will become prosperous in all your ways.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
FIRST YOU EAT TO LIVE, AND THEN YOU LIVE TO EAT… BUT THAT’S NO EXCUSE FOR STUFFING YOUR BODY WITH FOOD…

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your joy will not die; your glory will not sink.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Power in the word of God, transform my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. Power in the word of God, break and remould me, in the name of Jesus.
3. Power in the word of God, heal my infirmities, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Power resisting the word of God in my life, your time is up, die, in the name of Jesus.

Our Daily Bread Devotional 29 July 2018 – Hope in Grief

Topic: Hope in Grief [Our Daily Bread 29 Sunday July, 2018]

Read: Luke 24:13–32, Bible in a Year: Psalms 49–50; Romans 1

Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. Luke 24:31

When I was nineteen, one of my close friends was killed in a car accident. In the following weeks and months, I walked each day in a tunnel of grief. The pain of losing someone so young and wonderful clouded my vision, and at times I even felt unaware of what was going on around me. I felt so blinded by pain and grief that I simply could not see God.

In Luke 24, two disciples, confused and brokenhearted after Jesus’s death, didn’t realize they were walking with their resurrected Teacher Himself, even as He explained from Scripture why the promised Savior had to die and rise again. Only when He took bread and broke it was it revealed that this was Jesus (vv. 30–31). Although the followers of Jesus had faced death in all its horror when Jesus died, through His resurrection from the dead God showed them how to hope again.

Like those disciples, we might feel weighed down with confusion or grief. But we can find hope and comfort in the reality that Jesus is alive and at work in the world—and in us. Although we still face heartache and pain, we can welcome Christ to walk with us in our tunnel of grief. As the Light of the world (John 8:12), He can bring rays of hope to brighten our fog.

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for being the light in the darkness. Bring hope when I’m sad and confused, and help me to see Your glory.

Though we grieve, we have hope in Jesus.
