Andrew Wommack 27th July 2018 Daily Devotional – Negatives Become Positives

Topic: Negatives Become Positives [Andrew Wommack 27th July 2018 Daily Devotional]

Luke 15:18 “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee.”

Text: Luke 15:18-19

This is a good example of true repentance. This son did not claim any goodness of his own or try to justify his actions, but he humbled himself and appealed to the mercy of his father. Likewise, we cannot approach God in self-righteousness, but we have to humble ourselves, put all of our faith in a Savior, and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chr. 7:14). That is true repentance.

Repentance is a necessary part of salvation. Repentance may include godly sorrow, but sorrow does not always include repentance. Repentance is simply a change of mind accompanied by corresponding actions.

There is a godly type of sorrow and an ungodly type of sorrow. Godly sorrow leads to repentance. Ungodly sorrow, or the sorrow of this world, just kills.

Our culture has rejected all “negative” emotions. But God gave us the capacity for these negative emotions and there is a proper use of them.

People should feel bad about sin. There should be sorrow over our failures. However, this sorrow should lead to repentance, then when forgiveness is received, our sorrow should be cast upon the Lord (Isa. 53:4).

The sorrow experienced by those who do not turn to God produces only death.

They grieve over their situation because they don’t turn to God (that’s repentance). Christians should only have sorrow until they repent. Once repentance has come, we need to appropriate the forgiveness and cleansing that are already ours through Christ (1 Jn. 1:9). The positive change that our sorrows led us to, changes our attitude towards the things that caused us sorrow. Negatives become positives through Jesus.

Billy Graham 27th July 2018 Daily Devotional – Give and Take

Topic: Give and Take [Billy Graham’s Devotional Friday July 27, 2018]

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. — Ephesians 6:24

Certain relationships in life require from the parties involved only moderate degrees of devotion. A certain degree of reserve and distance seems to be suitable in such relations as these. But there are other relationships in life where all this is changed when friendship becomes love. Two hearts give themselves to each other to be no longer two, but one. Instead of being separated, their interest and paths are now together. The reserve and the distance suitable to mere friendships is fatal in real love. Love gives all and must have all in return. The wishes of the other party become binding obligations; and the deepest desire of each heart is to know every secret wish and longing of the other, in order that it may do all in its power to gratify those desires. Is that the kind of love, affection, and obedience you have for Christ?

Prayer for the Day: Jesus, I say I love You and yet so often it is a selfish, “taking” love. Let me love You in such a way that Your desires will be mine.

Daughter describes devastating toll of prison on Andrew Brunson as the US pastor moves to house arrest

Jacqueline Furnari said her father, Andrew Brunson from North Carolina, lost at least 50lb while in jail but he feels “blessed” to suffer for his Christian faith.

She was quoted by the Christian Post as saying: “[He] has been permanently changed by this experience.

“Even when this ordeal is over, he will never be the same person that he was.”

On Wednesday, a court decided Brunson, who leads Izmir Resurrection Church, could leave his cell and be placed under house arrest.

Mrs Furnari told guests at a US State Department event raising awareness of religious persecution that missing out on time with family was the hardest part of her father’s experience in jail.

Appearing at the inaugural State Department Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom, she also criticised the “ridiculous testimony” of prosecution witnesses called to give evidence in the trial.

She went on to say: “In his trial last week, my father forgave the witnesses who falsely testified against him,…

People Still See Key Differences Between Genders, Pew Poll Finds

People Still See Key Differences Between Genders, Pew Poll Finds

The media and the academy may be blurring the differences between men and women, but most Americans aren’t buying it, according to a Pew poll.

The Pew Research Center released a report July 24 showing that adults still use traditional words to describe the two genders.

“Protective,” “provider,” “father” and “honorable” were the positive words used most often to describe men, while “multitasking,” “brain,” “beautiful” and “maternal” were the positive words used most often to describe women.

“People said traits related to strength and ambition are especially valued for men in society and that compassion, kindness and responsibility are particularly valued for women,’ Pew added.

The report was based on data Pew released in 2017 that also found that most adults see key differences between the genders. In that data:

  • 84 percent of men and 89 percent of women said the genders express their feelings differently.

  • 69 percent of men and 67 percent of women said the genders are basically different in their hobbies and personal interests.

  • 76 percent of men and 75 percent of women said the genders are different in their physical abilities.

The reports were based on surveys of 4,573 people conducted Aug. 8-21 and Sept….

UK chaplains deployed to Greece following deadly wildfires

A fire broke out north-east of Athens in the area of Rafina on Monday, a seaside resort of permanent residences and holiday homes popular with Athenians and tourists.

Hundreds fled to nearby beaches, with many swimming out to sea to escape the ferocious flames and choking smoke that killed 81 people.

Rescue crews and volunteers have continued to search on land and at sea for potential further victims.

Chaplains from BGEA will work with local churches to offer emotional and spiritual support to victims.

Nigel Fawcett-Jones, the UK rapid response team coordinator, told Premier’s News Hour: “In our experience we know that people ask really difficult and challenging questions at times like this.

“And I think it’s appropriate that the Church and the rapid response team, as part of that church response, can bring the message of hope and comfort of the gospel.”

Fawcett-Jones said the chaplains, who have responded to terrorist attacks in Brussels, Munich, Paris, London and Manchester, will be placed in intensely emotional situations.

“We can only begin to imagine the devastation in Greece,” he said.

“The physical effects of the fire…

Lunar Eclipse, Blood Moon Set to Appear: A Sign of the End Times?

Lunar Eclipse, Blood Moon Set to Appear: A Sign of the End Times?

On Friday, July 27, the full moon will pass through the shadow of the Earth. According to Vox.com, the blood moon will last for 103 minutes, the longest “blood moon” lunar eclipse of the century, lasting 26 minutes longer than the last total lunar eclipse, in January. Although most of the world will be able to see the blood moon, most of North America will not.

The eclipse will best be seen the Middle East, southern Asia, Africa, and the Indian Ocean.

Space.com reports the moon will remain in the earth’s shadow for nearly 4 hours total. The event known as a Blood Moon occurs when the moon moves completely into the deepest part of Earth’s shadow, known as the umbra. The moon turns red instead of going black. The red color comes from some of the sunlight going through Earth’s atmosphere. The sunlight bends and falls onto the moon’s surface. (Earth’s air also scatters shorter-wavelength light — think of colors such as blue or green — which leaves behind red at the longer-wavelength end of the spectrum.)

The upcoming blood moon is not only of interest to astronomers and star-gazers, however. It has also drawn the attention of end times speculators and pastors.

Christian John Hagee and Mark Blitz explained that this blood moon is part of a series of unique astronomical events which signal what the Bible predicts in Acts 2:20 and Revelation 6:12.

35 persecuted Christians released from prison

The believers spent four and a half years in jail because they belonged to unregistered Christian denominations.

Erin James from Open Doors, which supports persecuted Christians told Premier that despite the good news, the plight of Christians was still worrying.

Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, she said: “It’s great to see 35 Christians released from what is awful persecution in terrible and really extreme prisons and camps.

“However, we have to remember that there are over 300 Christians arrested last year and up to maybe 3,000 Christians in these prison camps altogether.”

The Eritrean government only officially recognises the Orthodox Church of Eritrea, Sunni Islam, the Roman Catholic Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church as religious groups in the East African country.

Most members of the released group are young and not church leaders. Prominent pastors and religious leaders are held in higher security prisons such as the notorious Karsheli prison in Asmara.

James told Premier the group’s prolonged detention was unusual as they had all signed a document promising not to attend meetings of underground churches – following what’s traditionally required from Christians belonging to unregistered denominations.

She added they hoped to be able to move abroad “and live out their faith”.

“Do pray for these 35 as they adjust to life outside of prison. They’ve…

Parks Shown to Have Positive Impact on Mental Health, Can Also Help Alleviate Depression

(Photo: Unsplash/Becky Phan)Living near a park has been found to be beneficial to a person’s mental health

Turning vacant parking lots into parks can have a positive impact on the mental health of residents living nearby, according to a new study.

A study conducted by researchers in Philadelphia took a closer look at what kind of impact turning a vacant lot into a green space would have on members of the nearby community.

A total of 342 participants provided feedback for the study which has been published by the JAMA Network.

According to the researchers, there was a 62.8 percent reduction in the number of people who reported that they had poor mental health among those who were living near one of the converted parking lots.

Furthermore, the study also showed that 41.5 percent of the participants said that they felt less depressed after the vacant lots were transformed into green spaces.

The findings of the study could even help to at least partially explain why socioeconomic disparities remain persistent among people who say they have poor mental health.

Cindy Chang, the executive director for Groundwork Colorado, says she’s not surprised by the findings of the study. According to Chang, the study “confirmed what we see on a daily basis with the communities we work with,” 9news.com reported.

Chang added, “Green spaces have historically been a privilege in a neighborhood so we’re just trying to turn that around by making sure every neighborhood gets…

What’s the Ideal Time for Exercising?

(Photo: Unsplash/Bruno Nascimento)

People have different reasons for why they work out, and the ideal time for exercising depends on what those goals are.

In an article for Quick and Dirty Tips, fitness coach Brock Armstrong offered some insight and provided some information that sheds light on how people could better customize their workout plans according to what they are trying to achieve.

First off, Armstrong shared a discussion he had with a fellow fitness coach who provided a scientifically-backed argument which suggests that working out some time in the late afternoon or early evening is ideal because it enables people to gain a bigger fitness boost. This is due to bodies hitting their peak temperatures around that time of the day.

Armstrong added that exercising within that window of time will allow people to put in the highest intensity workout sessions.

However, Armstrong himself is someone who prefers exercising in the morning, and that has benefits too.

Many coaches and trainers subscribe to the line of thinking that working out early in the morning produces the best results for people simply trying to shed pounds, he noted.

He also prefers working out in the morning because it frees him up to carry on with the rest of his tasks without stressing about missing a session.

The “ultimate combination” is going through aerobic exercises in the morning and then taking part in high intensity training in the afternoon, Armstrong said.

However, if setting aside that much time for exercise is unrealistic, some studies suggest that simply sticking to a consistent workout schedule can do…
