Lauren Daigle Hosts Virtual Concert for Patients, Staff at Tennessee Children’s Hospital

Grammy award-winning music artist Lauren Daigle recently offered an exclusive performance to a Nashville children’s hospital.

According to a press release, Daigle performed a virtual concert for doctors, caregivers, first responders and patients at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The concert was a part of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s (VUMC) ‘Gratitunes’ campaign.

The special event featured six songs by Daigle, including her crossover hit song “You Say” and hit single “Still Rolling Stones.”

Musicians on Call, a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to hospital patients across the country, distributed Daigle’s performance to 19 pediatric hospitals across the country.

A press release sent to Christian Headlines noted that over 1,200 patients, family members and caregivers nationwide were able to see the broadcast through the hospital’s direct administration.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Lauren Daigle and all our friends in the music industry for the outpouring of support for our staff, nurses, doctors, patients and families, particularly during these unprecedented times,” said Meg Rush, MD, MMHC, President of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

“Music has always been an integral and important part of the fabric of our hospital, with visits in person, and now virtually,…

Ready to Go Back to Church? 10 Things to Consider before Heading to Worship

Ready to Go Back to Church? 10 Things to Consider before Heading to Worship

(RNS) — An evangelical research center focused on disaster response has detailed key steps churchgoers might take as they contemplate attending reopened churches.

Wheaton College’s Humanitarian Disaster Institute in Illinois released a series of documents this week to augment the guidelines of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The institute previously created a website with coronavirus-related resources with the National Association of Evangelicals.

“We are standing in the gap with a series of new resources since the CDC has been suppressed by the current administration on what guidelines it can provide to U.S. faith communities,” Jamie Aten, executive director of the institute, said in a Wednesday (June 10) announcement about “Deciding When & How You Should Return to Church in Person: A Practical Guide for Church Members.”

“Many churches including their pastors and church members are struggling to sort through misinformation and divisive voices because of the lack of detailed COVID-19 guidance for faith communities being provided at the federal level needed to navigate reopening churches safely.”

The new resources follow other initiatives, such as an ecumenical document released Sunday (June 7) by a consultation of mainline Protestant and Catholic experts, to help church leaders cope with the many questions swirling around reopening churches.

2020 is a year of seismic change: Have you changed your clothes lately?

Adobe Stock

When measuring the magnitude of an earthquake’s impact, the most extreme readings are generated from its epicenter. The earth’s underground jolting quickly makes its way up to the surface directly overhead, where the data is then evaluated and analyzed, both historically and geographically. If an earthquake is large enough, its seismic waves can be measured all around the globe.

The same kind of chain reaction happens in the spiritual arena.

2020 will be remembered as the year America was hit by a societal earthquake with powerful aftershocks.

The coronavirus pandemic led to a global shutdown, which led to an economic meltdown. Next came the horrifying George Floyd arrest and murder, which led to protests in most American cities, which led to riots, which led to a movement calling to defund local police departments in major US cities.

We aren’t even halfway through the year—and America still has a national election on the horizon. It’s not a stretch to forecast that, quite possibly, our most heated election ever is just around the corner.

Society has severely been altered. The shockwaves will be felt for decades unless Jesus returns before then.

These earthquakes registered in the spiritual arena as well.

Our sacred mission

Believers are struggling with how to respond as Jesus would want us to. Social media has given everyone a pulpit. If we are not careful with our opinions and the way we express our convictions, we could be a part of the Enemy’s plan to divide the church. We have a mission during this time when our country and the world needs us.

So, how do we address the needs and hurt within our nation and still pursue our sacred mission to reach people who need Jesus so desperately?

First, let’s remember an important truth: Evil and strife are all around us, but there’s more to it than what we see. Physical battles on the ground are a mere reflection of the spiritual battles raging in…

Liberty University Basketball Player to Transfer after ‘Racial Insensitivities’

Liberty University Basketball Player to Transfer after ‘Racial Insensitivities’

A member of Liberty University’s women’s basketball team announced that she will enter the transfer portal because of what she describes as “racial insensitivities” at the evangelical school.

Asia Todd, who averaged 8.9 points a game in her freshman season, said that her decision “has nothing to do with basketball or the program, ESPN reports.

The Clayton, North Carolina native explained that she, developed lifelong relationships that I will cherish forever” during her time at Liberty. “However,” she said, “due to the racial insensitivities shown within the leadership and culture, it simply does not align with my moral compass or personal convictions. Therefore, I had to do what I felt best within my heart, and stand up for what is right.”

Todd’s decision to transfer comes just as a Black faculty member resigned from the university and 35 Black LU alumni demanded Falwell resign for racial insensitivity. According to Religion News Service, communication studies professor Christopher House decided to leave the university after its president, Jerry Falwell Jr., posted a racially insensitive tweet while attempting to poke fun at Virginia Governor Northam’s policy of wearing masks in public. Falwell said he would only wear a mask if it included a photograph of Northam wearing blackface, a reference to a recently unearthed picture from Northam’s 1984…

Super Bowl champion stages prayer event in Boston: A question every American should ask

Benjamin Watson, a former New England Patriots football player, front, addresses an audience during Boston Pray: Seeking Unity and Justice. (AP Images)

Note: I am very grateful to my son, Ryan Denison, for writing the Daily Article while I was on vacation last week. Thank you for your many words of support for his work. It is a great honor to share this ministry with you each day.

Boston Common is one of my favorite places in America. Founded in 1634, it is the oldest park in the United States.

Colonial militia mustered here for the Revolution; George Washington came to the park to celebrate our nation’s independence. In the 1860s, the park was used for Civil War recruitment and antislavery meetings. Victory gardens sprouted during World War I; most of the Common’s iron fencing was donated to the war cause during World War II.

I remember vividly my visit to the Common some years ago. Everywhere I looked, history looked back.

Yesterday, however, the Common looked forward with a message every American needs to hear and a question every American needs to ask.

Boston Pray: Seeking Unity and Justice

Benjamin Watson played tight end in college. Upon graduation, his Wonderlic score (measuring math, vocabulary, and reasoning) tied for the third-highest in National Football League history. He was drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots; his team went on to win Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005. He played sixteen seasons in the NFL.

Watson met his wife through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the University of Georgia. He has defended the unborn boldly and been outspoken about his faith for many years.

Yesterday, however, his faithful leadership may have been more crucial than ever.

Watson leveraged his influence to sponsor Boston Pray: Seeking Unity and Justice. The event’s Facebook page explained: “As Christians in and around Boston, we are grieved by the recent murders of unarmed African…

The Top Ten Best Selling Bibles Compared to Ten Years Ago

There is a lot of stability in the preference of Bible translations, at least from the perspective of sales. The latest data I have is from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association as of January 2020. The numbers in parentheses represent the rankings in 2011. As a caveat, I understand that some Bibles may be paraphrases rather than translations.

Rankings as January 2020 (numbers in parentheses are 2011 rankings)

  1. New International Version (NIV) (1)
  2. King James Version (KJV) (2)
  3. New Living Translation (NLT) (4)
  4. English Standard Version (ESV) (5)
  5. New King James Version (NKJV) (3)
  6. Christian Standard Bible (CSB) (6)
  7. Reina Valera (RV) (not ranked)
  8. New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) (9)
  9. The Message (Message) (8)
  10. New American Standard Bible (NASB) (7)

 Observations:

    • The rankings are amazingly stable since 2011. One translation dropped three spots (NASB). One dropped two spots (NKJV). No other translation dropped or gained more than one spot. Technically, the CSB was the HCSB (LifeWay) in 2011.
    • The TNIV was discontinued in 2011. It was ranked 10 that year.
    • The NLT is “the quiet Bible.” The translation continues to gain readers without as much attention as other translations. It is now 3 in the rankings. I started reading the NLT this year and I love it.
    •  Obviously, the RV is a Spanish translation.

The Blessing – Canadian Version

The Blessing Canada – The Blessing movement was first started in the United Kingdom called The Blessing UK. Gospel artist in various countries are also coming together to do The Blessing version of their respective countries.

As the world has come together in a time of crisis, the church in CANADA has united in prayer and worship to bless our communities around the world in the Name of Jesus.

The Church in Canada is beautiful, broad and diverse and it is a nearly impossible task to accurately represent the full breadth of true diversity within the church in Canada from coast to coast to coast.

This unique project extended an invitation to churches in every province and territory and we are grateful for the nearly 200 individuals who responded and took part and participated.

With one voice, this is our prayer over Canada.

Originally, The Blessing Song was written by Elevation Worship, Cody Carnes and Kari Jobe.
