The biggest threat to Christianity in the modern day comes from within, a panel of theologians said at an event hosted by Ligonier Ministries Tuesday evening to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
During a Q&A session, scholars were asked what they believe is the biggest threat to Christianity in the 21st century.
Sinclair Ferguson, Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow and Chancellor’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, responded that the greatest threat is “probably Christianity in this century.”

Every Christian has a responsibility to evangelize and try to bring people to Jesus Christ, says megachurch Pastor Greg Laurie, describing discipleship as not unlike a plane’s safety instructions.
Laurie, who leads Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, reflected on Jesus’ Words in Matthew 28 in a Facebook video posted on Tuesday.
In Matthew 28, Jesus Christ said: “Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo I am with you even to the end of the age.”
Laurie explained what the passage means, saying: “It means go out, [and] to the best of your ability, lead people to Christ, get them on their feet spiritually, and go and repeat the process again, and again, and again.”
He added: “It’s sort of like, wash, rinse, repeat — evangelize, discipleship, do it again. We’re all called to do this, no one gets off the hook.”
Laurie said that in order for people to make disciples, they must first be disciples themselves.

Duck Dynasty Stars Make Hotel Cleaning Woman’s Day with Act of Kindness
Stars of Duck Dynasty Phil and Kay Robertson recently reached out in an act of kindness while they were on a trip to Washington D.C. and New York City.
Kay Robertson explained what happened in a video uploaded to Phil Robertson’s Facebook page:
“I went to find the lady that cleaned my room … and I found her and she thought she was in trouble. But I said, ‘No, I just want to give you something’ and I gave her something and then I gave her a big hug and I kissed her on the cheek.”
The hotel cleaning woman was overcome with emotion at Miss Kay’s act of kindness. Then Miss Kay discovered that “In her 14 years working there she had never been hugged by a customer.”
This act of kindness not only made the woman’s day, but it gave the Robertsons an opportunity to share the Gospel with her, according to Faithwire.com.
“I got a piece of paper and I drew an arrow coming down out of heaven … I said, ‘Two thousand seventeen years ago, year one, God came down in flesh.’ She said, ‘Really?’” Phil recalled. “I said, ‘Yup … he died on the cross for all of our sins, yours and mine. And they put him in a tomb, three days later he resurrected from the dead, he came back to life.’”
The woman said she believed in this Good News and the Robertsons encouraged her to continue in the faith and to read Scripture.
In the spirit of the legendary 95 theses of German priest and scholar Martin Luther addressing widespread abuse in the Church in his day, the Mosaix Global Network led by Mark DeYmaz, presented 95 theses from an international group of church leaders calling out the segregation of the American Church on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.
