On Thursday, it was reported a private company was in talks with a health trust to trial a scheme in Essex aimed at freeing up beds.
Under the scheme, so-called ‘hosts’ would need no care experience but could be paid £50 a night to offer Airbnb-style accommodation and three microwave meals a day.
Roslyn Anyanwu, a Christian and owner of Gentle Hands care home told Premier’s News Hour her reaction to the idea.
She said: “Care is more than care. It’s not just giving somebody breakfast or giving them food to eat. There is what is called duty of care for every carer.
“People with no experience should not go and care for anybody.”
However, Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have released a statement saying there’s never been a plan in place for it to be involved in a scheme and has insisted it will never compromise safety.
The NHS hospital also said it won’t look at trialling the idea until necessary arrangements are in place.
Ministers were also urged to drop the “preposterous” trial scheme.
Labour former minister Lord Clark of Windermere warned that “vulnerable patients” would be allocated to homes where the host had no “medical expertise”.
At question time, he said: “Won’t the Government listen to the medical opinion and drop this preposterous scheme.”
His sentiments were backed by Anyanwu who told Premier what she considered a better solution to the shortage of hospital beds.

The conservative educational website PragerU filed a lawsuit against Google and YouTube this Monday for unjustly restricting their online video content.
According to news website The Hill, YouTube has placed at least 50 of PragerU’s videos under restricted settings, which limits the contents accessibility to younger viewers and prevents the website from making money through advertising.
Google/YouTube argues that they have restricted the videos because the content is “inappropriate” for younger audiences, however, PragerU denied the claim in their press release online.
Eric George of Brown George Ross, the firm representing PragerU, says, “Google and YouTube do this not because they have identified video content that violates their guidelines or is otherwise inappropriate for younger viewers, but because PragerU is a conservative nonprofit organization that is associated with and espouses the views of leading conservative speakers and scholars.”
The list of restricted videos includes controversy-sparking titles such as “The most important question about abortion,” “Where are the moderate Muslims?” “The World’s Most Persecuted Minority: Christians,” and “Is Islam a religion of peace?”
Also censored is a video by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz on the founding of Israel.

Campaign group Christian Concern works closely alongside the pro-life activist group.
The display called ‘Moving Truth’ has images of aborted foetuses and will circle Parliament Square and travel up and down Whitehall on Friday.
Ruth Rawlins, Abort67 spokesperson, told Premier she acknowledges that some people may find it offensive.
She said: “We believe people need to see the truth and when people see the truth it can often change minds.
“Abortion advocates have been left unchallenged for too long, hiding the reality of abortion and its tragic effects on both the pre-born child and the mother.
The group said its intention is not to upset people, but to “save lives”.
Rawlins said: “[Opposers] are becoming increasingly aware of anti-abortion activity and have been frantically trying to shut down the voice of all those who oppose them. The call for buffer zones is just one example.
“But, they cannot shut down an image showing the outcome of their ‘service’ that savagely kills children in the womb. People can have opinions, but photographs cannot lie.”

The first official English-language translation of a ritual book on exorcisms has been released by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, detailing practices that get rid of demons and prayers against the “powers of darkness.”
“Given that there’s less facility in Latin than there used to be, even among priests, it opens the door to more priests to do this. Until now, not only did the priest have to be wise and holy, but he also had to have strong facility in Latin,” Fr. Andrew Menke, executive director of the USCCB’s Secretariat of Divine Worship, told Catholic News Service on Tuesday.
“It makes it easier for a priest who might otherwise be a good exorcist but who would be intimidated by a requirement to use a Latin text. Having it available in the vernacular means he can concentrate on prayer and on the ritual, without needing to worry about working in another language,” he added.
The ritual book, titled Exorcisms and Related Supplications, was made available online on the USCCB website.

Tory backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg reiterated his strict anti-abortion stance in a heated exchange with BBC’s Emma Barnett.
Barnett pointed out Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said he would favour cutting the abortion limit from 24 weeks to 12 and said changes to the limit could be changed by a bill if Cabinet ministers supported a reduction.
Rees Mogg responded:” I would be in favour of the numbers of weeks being reduced, of course I would.
“By as many weeks as possible.”
The MP, who some say could be a future Prime Minister, also called abortions after rape a “second wrong”.
The 1967 Abortion Act came into effect 50 years ago on Friday and the anniversary has sparked a debate over whether the law should be relaxed or tightened.
Rees Mogg made his position on abortion clear during the 5 Live interview and added: “It is important to look at the number of weeks because to abort babies beyond the number of weeks at which they could live outside the womb seems to me extremely difficult to defend.
“I’m against abortion. Full stop. I would support reducing the number of weeks… Life either begins at the point of concept or moment of birth to fix a number of weeks is essentially arbitrary.
“But I would support a reduction.”
