Topic: Defeating Unbelief [Friday July 7, 2017]

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. — 1 Peter 5:8-9

Sometimes we unintentionally give the wrong impression about spiritual warfare. We know that our enemy is the devil and that we must fight daily to win, but that’s not everything. If the Christian life were nothing but battles, it would be discouraging to fight every hour of every day.

I would feel that I could never relax because as soon as I did, Satan would sneak back again. That’s not the picture I want to present. The Christian life is one of joy and peace. God gives us a great sense of fulfillment, and we’re at rest because we know we honor Him by the way we live.

Peter wrote to Christians about their enemy—warning them and urging them to be vigilant, which is where we often put the emphasis. Just before he wrote those words, however, he said, Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully (v. 7). As we read that verse, it tells us that we must remind ourselves of God’s love for us—God cares. Because God cares, we can trust Him to take care of us.

We need that as part of our foundation. It’s not that we don’t have faith; it’s that Satan tries to destroy our faith with lies like: “If God really cared about you, would He make you go through this trial?” “If God truly loved you, would He treat you this way?”

Those questions that the devil throws at you are full of lies. If he can make you think you’re not loved or that God doesn’t have your best interests at heart, he can plant tiny seeds of unbelief. God wants you to remain strong and true like Abraham and other believers in the Bible.

One of the things I’ve learned from ministering to thousands of people is that the terrible and negative problems striking our lives are not what cause us to turn away from God. No, it’s our reaction to those situations that makes the difference. Think of Abraham again. When God promised to give him a son, he was an old man. He could have said, “How could that possibly be? I’m old and long past being able to father a child.” Instead, he said, “That’s wonderful! I believe.”

When struggles, trials, and hardships come your way—and they always do—you have a choice. You can heed Peter’s words and give God your cares, worries, and concerns. No matter how dark the night or how evil the situation, you must remind yourself that God is not only present with you in those situations, but He also loves you and will provide for you.

Your job is to be vigilant during those difficult times. You can rejoice in God’s love and blessings when all is going well—and that’s what God wants you to do. But in the dark moments, you need to remind yourself that the devil stalks you and wants to defeat you.

One more thing. Sometimes you may wonder why you have so many trials and problems. Is it possible that the devil may have singled you out because of God’s great plan for your life? The more faithful you are, the more you have to resist him and his lies of unbelief.

Dear heavenly Father, the enemy often tries to fill me with unbelief and make me deny Your powerful love for me. But like Abraham, I stand firm on Your promises. Thank You for the comfort I find in Your assurance that You’re always with me. Amen.

I am led to remind you that years ago, Diego Armendo Maeradona, the then 44 year-old Argentinian ‘god ‘of soccer, made a dramatic move from the pitch to the tube with the first edition of his TV talk show, tagged: “The Night of the Number 10” The show was a tribute to the number 10 shirt he wore while playing for Argentina. Remember that after recovering from his drug problems, Maeadona’s only headache remained his bloated size with grave health implications! So, the former “World Footballer of the year,” opted for stomach surgery-also known as “gastric by-pass” or “stomach stapling,” aimed at reducing his stomach’s capacity to retain food.

In order to keep his health and his shape, a former leading doctor said the soccer legend would have to rely on a liquid diet for three months, “if he’s serious about returning to his normal size/weight.” For the man who is worshipped by a particular church in Argentina, the last statement was a call to discipline! Then the question worldwide at that time was: “Will Maradona be disciplined enough to go without solid food for three months?” Note that a man or woman without decision of character can never be said to belong to himself; he belongs to captive of him” ( John TT. Foster).

God is speaking to to you today about self-discipline! What is it that has gained control over you? Is it unholy anger, fornication, adultery, malice, unforgiveness, gossip, pride, weakness in fasting, your tongue, etc? Note that before fire could fall on the sacrifice of Elijah, 1 Kings 18:33 says: “he put the wood in order and cut the bullock in pieces and laid it on the wood.” Until God sees that your world is in order, He will not send the fire! Lac k of order will stagnate your height in life!

Topic: Who Crosses Your Path? [Friday July 7, 2017]

Luke 10:29 – “But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?”

This question of “who is my neighbour” can be used by Satan to deceive us in more than one way. Not only can he deceive men into thinking they have fulfilled the command to “love thy neighbor as thyself” when they haven’t, but he will also try to apply this command in a way that condemns those who are seeking to fulfill it, by making them think they are not doing enough.

We cannot meet the needs of every single person in the world. Jesus wasn’t teaching that. This wounded man was directly in the path of these three men. The priest and the Levite had to walk around him. Jesus is simply teaching that we should take advantage of the opportunities we have. The fact that we can’t help everyone is no excuse not to help anyone.

Jesus, through this parable, defined a neighbor as any fellow human being who crosses our path and is in need of our assistance. The Samaritan went to the full extent of his ability — and beyond — to help the man. The priest and Levite did nothing.

There was a racial and religious hatred between Jews and Samaritans. Devout Jews would not associate with or even talk to a Samaritan. The priest and the Levite that passed by this wounded man were his fellow-countrymen, and yet they didn’t help him. This Samaritan, who was considered by religious Jews to be of another nationality, was the true neighbor. Jesus made it clear that you could not define “neighbor” on the basis of geographic origin or your familiarity with someone. A neighbor is anyone that God puts in your path.

Topic: Our Many Blessings [Friday July 7, 2017]

Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. — Psalm 85:12

The great economic and material prosperity we are enjoying in the United States today is a gift of God’s hand. The Bible tells us that the very goodness of God should lead us to repentance. All of these material blessings are gifts from God, given in order that we might humble ourselves, fall upon our knees before Him, and call upon His name. We should thank God, too, for the spiritual blessings that are beyond the power of the human tongue to describe.

Here in North America we still have freedom of worship. In many parts of the world believers cannot assemble together; they cannot speak of their religious convictions because of totalitarian power. Here in North America we have Bibles everywhere. We have the opportunity to preach. God has blessed us with a thousand and one spiritual blessings. In days of uncertainty and confusion, such as we are now passing through, these are gifts that go beyond our power to understand; and yet they are gifts of God that become ours when we receive His Son as our Savior and Lord.

Prayer for the day: Almighty God, I thank You for all the blessings You shower upon this land—and I would thank You especially for my freedom to worship You and read my Bible, without fear of persecution.

Topic: Free From Debt! [Friday July 7, 2017]

The borrower is servant to the lender. – Proverbs 22:7

If you’re up to your neck in debt today, I have good news for you. God wants to set you free from those debts and He has the power to do it.

I know. He did it for me.

I’ll never forget it. I had $22,000 worth of bad debts at the time. I’d committed to God to pay them off and never borrow another dime—but it looked to me like I’d never be able to do it.

We didn’t see how, but we believed that “God is able.” Day by day we looked to God for our deliverance from debt. Not asking Him every day, but thanking Him because we believed we received when we prayed. Eleven months later, we were out of debt. As we looked back, nothing spectacular had happened, but God worked in our finances continuously. As we were faithful, He was faithful.

God can do the same thing for you if you’ll dare to believe His Word. If you’ll make a commitment before Him to get out from under those debts and then obey Him every step of the way.

As you look at your situation right now, you may not be able to see how you could ever get out of debt, much less stay that way. I felt that way too, at first. I just didn’t see how I’d ever be able to do much of anything without borrowing money.

But He showed me how—and He’ll do the same thing for you.

There’s no debt too big and no business too complicated for Him to handle. If you’ll trust Him to manage yours, He will bring you out on top…and you’ll never have to be a slave to debt again.

Topic: The Changeless God [Friday July 7, 2017]

Scripture: For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6

Thought For The Day: We serve a God who cannot be changed by times and seasons.

From our anchor scripture, we see that God is not subject to times, seasons, situations or circumstances. It is obvious that times and seasons change things but not God.

Sometime ago, I heard a funny story of a boy who was staying with his grandfather. One day, the boy looked at his hands and saw that it was very smooth and then looked at his grandfather’s hand and saw that it was wrinkled. So, he asked the grandfather, ‘Who made you?’ and the grandfather said, ‘God’. The boy asked again, ‘The same God made me too?’ The grandfather said, ‘Yes’. Then the boy compared his hands with that of his grandfather and said, ‘It means God is doing a better work these days.’

According to the little boy, his hands were smooth and his grandfather’s hands were wrinkled because he represented a superior version of God’s craftsmanship compared to his grandfather. The boy missed the truth; that is not the truth. What made the grandfather’s hand wrinkled was time. Time brought with it change, aging and degeneration to the human body.

But we serve a God who cannot be changed by times and seasons; He is Ancient but not aged. He is not more powerful yesterday than He is today. That is why you are not permitted to be consumed (Malachi 3:6); you are not permitted to be a victim of casualties. The witches and wizards cannot feed on your blood or destiny. You are preserved by the God who is ever powerful and faithful.

Remember this: We serve a God who cannot be changed by time and seasons.

Assignment(s):

1. Determine not to have any alternative to God no matter what.

2. Trust God to bring you into fulfilment in life and destiny.

3. Allow God to lead you in everything.

Topic: Divine Perfection [07/07/2017]

And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. Joshua 6:4. Read: 2 Kings 5:1-14

When you go through the Bible for example, you would discover that, number seven is very important to God Almighty. For instance, after rigorous activities of creation, God Almighty deemed it fit to rest on the seventh day and bless the seventh day. Gen 2:2. The Ark of Noah rested on Mount Ararat on the seventh month. Gen 8:4. Therefore, we can correctly say that, the seventh month is a month of divine perfection. God can do the unimaginable on the seventh day, something beyond human comprehension. The battle between the children of Israel and Jericho ended on the seventh day after seven priests with seven ram’s horn blew the trumpets; the defensive walls of Jericho fell down flat.

General Naaman was commanded to wash seven times in river Jordan before his leprosy could go away. He almost missed his divine healing through pride if not for the prompt intervention of his maidservant who persuaded him to obey the divine instruction from the man of God, and when he did, his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
