Christians Declare Victory After Toronto’s Attempt to Ban Music Festival Fails

Christian Post Report – Christian festival organizers have successfully won their battle to have an event held in Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square after officials argued the festival would be a violation of the city’s public space policy.

Officials in Toronto had previously sought to ban the annual Voices of the Nations music festival in the square, arguing that the event’s Christian theme amounted to proselytizing on public property.

While organizers for the festival initially planned to take the ban to court, they managed to reach an agreement with Yonge-Dundas Square management regarding the upcoming festival, set to be held on Aug. 1.

The contents of that agreement have recently been finalized, Voices of the Nations’ director Peter Ruparelia told LifeSite News on Thursday.

“I believe it’s a victory for all Christians,” Ruparelia told the media outlet.

After multiple discussions, the agreement states that the concert may freely reference God and Jesus and engage in prayer as long as this religious expression is done during the performance, LifeSite News reports.

Ruparelia said in a statement posted to the Voices of the Nations’ website that the victory is “bittersweet,” as the square’s new policies still infringe upon the religious freedom rights of Christans.

“The victory is bittersweet, because though we’ve received the permit, glory to God, the conditions that have been outlined, though to a lesser degree, still violates our rights and freedoms as citizens of this great country.” Ruparelia said.

“I just want to thank everyone who stood by us for the last few months. Everyone that prayed, signed the petition, rallied, and gave financially; thank you. Together we are strong and we will continue to stand and fight for the name of Jesus,” the event director added.

Soon after the city denied the concert’s request for a permit in Yonge-Dundas Square, the Rev. Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, commented in a November Facebook post: “Can you imagine? The city of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada, has banned an annual Christian music festival. Why? Because they sing about Jesus Christ! Oh really? I hope Canadian Christians will stand up and let their voice be heard.”

“Jesus is the only name by which we must be saved. The Bible says: ‘Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE EVERY NAME, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on Earth and under the Earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).’ Wake up Christians, before it’s too late,” Graham added.

The Voices of the Nations describes its mission as “[providing] a venue and [uniting] the various denominations, cultures and the outstanding talents within the Christian community,” as well as “[embracing] and [celebrating] the wonderful diversity in the city.”

Francis Chan: You Can’t Get Rid of Sin Without Embracing Suffering

FrancisChan (Photo: Screenshot/Liberty University)

Christian Post Report – Author and church planter Francis Chan speaking at Liberty University.

Francis Chan, best-selling author and founder of Radius International, spoke at Liberty University’s Convocation, urging the Christian students to embrace suffering, without which, he said, they can’t experience change in their lives.

Chan, author of Crazy Love, said he finds it strange when people call themselves Christians but don’t like change in their lives. “The core of the Gospel is about change,” he told the students two weeks ago, and said that’s what repentance means, when you change your direction.

The message was based on 1 Peter 4:1-3, “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do — living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.”

Chan said he recently visited a church in a small village in China, which had about 70 families — all the families in that locality are Christian. These families look after several children with different kinds of needs, and live with love as a real church.

A Chinese church leader explained to Chan that there are five pillars of the Chinese underground church, and the last pillar is never mentioned in America, he said. They’re committed to the Bible, prayer, everyone sharing the Gospel, expectation of miracles and the fifth one, embracing suffering for the glory of Christ. “And that’s all over the New Testament … though we don’t talk about it a lot,” Chan said. It’s an “unstoppable force.”

We quit things because we don’t like to suffer, Chan added. The Bible says we need to rejoice in our suffering because our reward is great, he stressed, and said this is so opposite of how we think; we’re wrongly taught to follow Jesus so that get this, this and this.

“When you have the mentality of, ‘Christ suffered; I’m going to suffer,’ then, when the suffering comes, it doesn’t hurt you … it doesn’t confuse you, like before,” he said.

Jesus said if the world hates you, know that it hated Me first, and that if they persecuted Me, what will they do to you, Chan told the listeners.

“Jesus didn’t come down to the Earth thinking, ‘Everyone is going to love Me; everyone is going to worship Me; no one is going to reject Me.’ No, He says, ‘I came to serve and I knew I was going to give my life; I knew I was going to be rejected; this is what I came for.’ See, and if we entered into our church gatherings thinking, ‘You know, I am going there to give my life for these people; I am going there to sacrifice for them,’ and we arm ourselves with that mindset, we are not going to be let down,” Chan explained.

But most of us don’t arm ourselves with this thinking, he said, and referred to 1 Peter 4:1, which says “whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.”

Chan said he works with drug addicts, and no one can kick heroine without suffering. Some people argue that God didn’t take away their desire for pornography, but they forget that they can’t make corrections in their lives without suffering, he added.

“But what God can do in you, and this is what I am praying for here, is that He can change your very nature,” Chan continued. “He’s not here just to wash you off so that at one point you just go back to the same junk because it is who you are; you are a pig; you are a slave to sin; you can’t help it; you keep running back. What Christ says is, ‘I offer, I actually put my spirit — this is insane — I will put my Holy Spirit inside of you and now you become a slave to what is right.'”

Chan said his prayer is that “we would change the culture, our mindset, that we would arm people so that they don’t walk away from Jesus when life gets difficult, but that we arm them with a proper theology of suffering.”

We don’t need to be surprised by suffering, “no longer do we complain when it gets difficult, but we rejoice in it, and no longer do we set our lives up so that we avoid suffering at all costs but we actually want some of it so that when Christ returns we go, ‘I am one of yours. Look at my scars; look at my life; I’ve lived the life of Christ.'”

The Zika Virus Challenge Similar to AIDS for Medical Community

ON February 1, 2016, the World Health Organisation, WHO, declared the Zika virus infection a public health emergency of international concern, following widespread reports about its suspected role in causing birth defects among newborns when pregnant women are infected.

The WHO says it expects 3-4 million Zika infections in the Americas over the next 12 months. A mosquito-borne illness in the past, Zika virus was only known to cause mild illness, such as fever, rashes, muscle/joint pain, and conjunctivitis. Severe disease and fatalities were uncommon. The mosquito that carries the Zika virus, the Aedes aegypti mosquito, is the same mosquito that spreads the Yellow Fever. It occurs worldwide, posing a high risk of global transmission.

The fears of significant international spread by travellers from the Latin American countries to the rest of the world are real. In recent times, however, concerns have emerged about severe clinical manifestations, including auto-immune-like illnesses and congenital neurological malformations such as microcephaly, a rare birth defect that stunts the growth of a baby’s brain and head. Evidence of the Zika virus has been found in the placenta and amniotic fluid of mothers and in the brains of foetuses or newborns.

ZIKA VIRUS ALERT: Pregnant women are urged to stay away from regions affected by the Zika virus outbreak due to the risk of brain damage to foetuses.

Several infected individuals, pregnant and non-pregnant, have been documented after international travel. Over 4,000 cases of suspected microcephaly have been reported to date representing a 20-fold increase from 2010. Since Brazil reported the Zika virus in May 2015, infections have occurred in at least 24 countries in the Americas.

The disease now has “explosive” pandemic potential, with outbreaks reported in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas. It is a worrisome development because there is no vaccine that can prevent the infection and very few tests available to detect it. … Read more

A mom and her twin daughters : Which one is the mom? Here’s your answer

CNN respond – When Kaylan Mahomes posted a recent car selfie with her twin, Kyla, and their mother, the social media world went into confusion.

The caption by the high schooler read, “Mom, twin and me.”

But because all three share the same youthful glow — it looks more like a picture of triplets — everyone was trying to figure out which one is the mom.

Since it was posted January 28 the photo has been retweeted more than 18,000 times and received more than 29,000 likes. Some Twitter users have shared it along with the hashtag #blackdontcrack, an expression that refers to African-Americans whose smooth skin makes them look younger than their age.

After seeing how much success their selfie garnered, the family created an Instagram page to share more images of the trio, who live in Indianapolis.

But the big question remained: Which young-looking lady is the mom?

In an interview aired Friday on HLN, the trio put speculation to rest by revealing that the twins’ mother, Tina, appears to the far left in the photo.

Asked by Christi Paul how she stays so well-preserved with two 16-year-old daughters, Mom broke down her methods.

“I try to drink a lot of water, I try to stay stress free,” the 35-year old said. “I just focus a lot on emotional inner beauty.”

The family said they’re mistaken for triplets “all the time.”

“Even people who I know personally still don’t know who’s the mommy,” Kaylan told HLN.

The pic was snapped when Mom was picking the girls up from school; Kaylan shared it with a friend and it went viral quickly thereafter.

Even before the big reveal, the family’s second Instagram post offered a crucial clue.

The post is a video of one of the ladies holding a camera while the three pose for a picture. Then they all erupt into laughter when one of them apparently realizes she was actually being videotaped.

The video’s caption reads, “When your mom thinks it’s a picture … lol #whosthemom?”

Roles of Jesus Christ, Judas Cast in Tyler Perry’s ‘The Passion Live’

Tyler Perry (Photo: Reuters/Danny Moloshok)

Christian Post Report – Tyler Perry speaks on stage during the 45th NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, California February 22, 2014.

The actors who will portray Jesus Christ and Judas in the upcoming live production of Fox’s “The Passion” on Palm Sunday have officially been announced.

The role of Jesus will be played by singer-songwriter Jencarlos Canela, a theater actor who debuted in the 2008 musical “Miami Libre” and currently stars on the NBC primetime show, “Telenovela.” Judas, the man who betrays Jesus, will be portrayed by singer and actor Chris Daughtry, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While he has appeared on “CSI: NY,” the soon-to-be Judas is probably best known from season five of “American Idol” where he placed fourth overall. The script, written by Peter Barsocchini (“High School Musical,”) will take audiences on a journey 2,000 years ago to the last hours when Jesus Christ walked the Earth.

The musical will air on Palm Sunday, which executives close to the production hope can bring both Christian and secular audiences together before Easter.

“This Palm Sunday television event is a modern-day production of the most famous story of all time, full of universal themes, which we hope provides a unifying experience, bringing the sacred and secular together,” said Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programming and development for Dick Clark Productions.

Adam Anders, the music producer who has worked on “Glee” and “Rock of Ages,” revealed that audiences will witness the story of Jesus being told like never before.

“‘The Passion’ is one of the most exciting and compelling projects that I have ever been involved with,” said Anders in a statement to The Christian Post. “I cannot wait to bring the greatest-story-ever-told to life through music in a way that has never been heard before. To be able to create new arrangements of some of the biggest songs of all time and to create a live film score is a creative dream for me.”

Aside from Canela and Daughtry, Trisha Yearwood, the singer and host of Food Network’s “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” joined the cast last month as Mary, the mother of Jesus.

“I’m thrilled to join #ThePassionLive airing LIVE March 20 on @FOXTV xo trish,” the Grammy Award-winning “How Do I Live” singer tweeted.

The “Corazón Sin Cara” singer Prince Royce also echoed Yearwood’s sentiments, after joining the cast as the disciple Peter.

“I’m happy to be joining #ThePassionLive as Peter airing LIVE March 20 on @FOXTV,” he tweeted to over 5 million fans.

Film mogul Tyler Perry will narrate and host the two-hour musical that will take place in Perry’s hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, and bring a modern-day account of the story of Jesus of Nazareth to life. A number of iconic locations throughout New Orleans will be utilized in the live musical event that is also expected to include a local New Orleans audience in the carrying of a 20-foot cross.

Famed biblical events like the Last Supper, Jesus’ betrayal at the hands of Judas, his trial by Pontius Pilate, the crucifixion and resurrection will be included in what the president of Fox said will be an inspirational play.

“‘The Passion’ is both wonderfully entertaining and genuinely inspirational,” said David Madden, president of entertainment for the Fox Broadcasting Company, in a statement shared with The Christian Post. “We are so thrilled to have the multi-talented Tyler Perry join us for this epic music production. He is the perfect host to lead the cast — and viewers — through the streets of New Orleans in this contemporary re-telling of a timeless story.”

Kierra Sheard Inspired by Kirk Franklin, Kanye West Studio Session

Kierra Sheard (Photo: BET Networks)

Christian Post Report – Kierra Sheard currently serves as a judge on BET’s “Sunday Best.”

When gospel music songwriter and producer Kirk Franklin appeared in a recording studio with rap mogul Kanye West, gospel singer Kierra Sheard said she was inspired.

“I was super inspired. What was so much more fun is that 2 Chainz posted a video of them in the studio and Kirk Franklin was chilling on the wall,” Sheard said in a Periscope video posted Tuesday, according to EEW magazine. “He did nothing that let his good be evil spoken of. It was perfect.”

The 28-year-old daughter of Grammy Award-winning singer Karen Clark Sheard of the gospel music group The Clark Sisters and the daughter of megachurch pastor Bishop J Drew Sheard, rebuked those who spoke negatively about Franklin’s decision to spend time with 38-year-old rapper West ahead of his Feb 11 album.

“So many people negatively respond to Kirk Franklin and y’all tried to throw him under the bus. I have a huge problem with that,” she said. “People of God, people of Christ, we have to do better.”

In a recent Twitter post, Franklin opened up amid the criticism by writing, “I want to sit where the sinners are … the well sometimes make me sick.”

Sheard said the criticism of Franklin reminded her why some people avoid the church.

“People have said, ‘This is why I don’t come to church. I don’t deal with church people,'” she asserted. “And some people have even said, ‘This is why I don’t even believe in God because, the God that you all speak about and the love that you guys say you ought to share, you guys don’t share it amongst each other.'”

Her brother, J. Drew Sheard II, 27, has focused on establishing his own music career throughout the years but has felt judgment from some in the Christian community in the past. Kierra previously spoke to The Huffington Post in an emotional interview about making non traditional gospel music for people like her brother.

“There are people out there like my brother, who are probably just tired of church people and the judgment and the negativity. …,” Kierra said. “This is my way of presenting Jesus in a different way, in a fresh way, in a way I think he has called me to present him.”

Fred Hammond Asks Fans to Pray Over Business Deals Affecting His Health

Fred Hammond (Photo: RCA Inspiration)

Christian Post Report – Fred Hammond created the Festival of Praise Tour featuring Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, Hezekiah Walker, Israel Houghton, Jessica Reedy, Isaac Carree and Zacardi Cortez.

Fred Hammond has touched countless people with his worship music for three decades, now the gospel singer is asking fans to pray about some business matters that could be affecting his health.

The 55-year-old singer was transparent when he took to Twitter to reveal that he needed prayer.

“I have a prayer request that I need my Twitter FAM to stand in agreement with me on.
It’s of a business nature,” he wrote on Monday. “I’m asking God to break the chains, and bring fairness immediately into this situation. I served diligently with a great and positive attitude, I rebuke the spirit of Laban over Jacob!”

In the Bible, Laban, the uncle of Jacob, deceived his nephew in Genesis 29:25. Instead of acting on the agreed upon terms of seven years worth of Jacob’s work resulting in him marrying Laban’s youngest daughter, Rachel, the uncle deceived his nephew and forced him to work seven additional years.

“This will not be that! I rebuke the spirit of stress and illness this issue brings to me daily,” the singer wrote. “Father please step in and break every chain concerning this matter. My creativity rests in and comes from You Lord.”

In the prayer posted for over 400,000 social media followers to witness, Hammond said he trusted God to deliver him from the situation.

“I’ve sown fairness now I’m asking You Lord to loose fairness. Break the unfair chains Father,” he wrote. “I’ve served and I served well. My faith is strong. … Lord You are more than able.”

Hammond has been transparent about his business in the past, and previously told The Christian Post about some of the hardships artists face in the gospel music industry.

“We don’t have the economics or commerce behind us to make us feel valuable,” the singer said. “Back in the day there were five, six or seven labels out. Now, we’re all independent and scratching for what we can get.”

Hammond has also taken notice of the comradery in the hip-hop world, where rappers are always joining on one another’s records and introducing new artists. He spoke about the the gospel music industry having potential to do the same.

“It’s not what it used to be and I think we’ve all let it down. And I think unless we all come together and say ‘what do we need to do’ then we’re all going to be in trouble,” Hammond told CP. “Unless we all come together and do something with all the minds, not the Church minds but the biggest minds … artists, labels and radio, then the Church will follow.”

Taraji P. Henson Says Prayer Works, God Is All She Knows

Taraji P. Henson (Photo: Reuters/Lucy Nicholson)

Christian Post Report – Taraji P. Henson poses with the award for Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama for her role in “Empire” backstage at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California, January 10, 2016.

Taraji P. Henson is sharing her beliefs in the power of prayer.

The 45-year-old “Empire” actress who hosted the BET “Celebration of Gospel” on Sunday followed up the event with a post that reads: “Prayer Works” to over 6 million Twitter followers Wednesday.

“#GodIs and THAT is all that I KNOW,” Henson captioned the image.

Before the “Celebration of Gospel” show aired, Henson also took to Twitter to let followers know, “with God all things are possible! You better know that!”

While she has maintained a 20-year acting career with a multitude of roles, Henson won her first Golden Globe Award for best performance by an actress in a television series last month. Before receiving the honor for her portrayal of the character “Cookie” from the FOX drama “Empire,” Henson earned a nomination for an Academy Award in 2009 for her work in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

After winning a Golden Globe Award, Henson told Extra TV about her excitement for the honor.

“That is our soul we expose to the world, so whenever people receive it and people go, ‘Oh, we want to give you something,’ it always feels good,” she said.

The actress previously spoke to The Christian Post about how her Christian faith has impacted her career.

“It has definitely kept me sane and continues to keep me sane because I know how I got here. I moved to California with $700 in my pocket with my son and a dream and faith,” Henson told CP. “And every time a door would close I would pray to God, like ‘I know you’ve got a plan for me because I’m still here.’ There’s a plan for me and I believe in that.”

During an interview with Uptown magazine last year, Henson spoke about her feelings of envy toward actress Amy Adams and how her Christian faith helped her overcome those emotions.

“I used to have this crazy thing with Amy Adams. You see her consistently getting nominated, as she should, because Amy does good work,” Henson said. “But, it’s like, ‘Well I did good work too.’ But if you choose to stay in that place then you become miserable.”

“It’s a pity party and nobody cares. I’m human, so I’ve done it,” she added. “But I check that because it’s ego and it’s the devil.”

Although Henson later became an Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress with countless other awards and accolades under her belt, there was a point in time when she had no accomplishments to feel secure about. In those moments, Henson turned to God.

Whenever I thought I was supposed to get something and it didn’t fall through, I would just fall back to God and be like ‘OK, well what else. Because whatever you’ve got must be better than this,'” she revealed to The Christian Post back in 2014. “And then it is, it always is.”

Sarah Jakes Roberts Says Fear Almost Kept Her From True Joy of Pregnancy With 3rd Child

Pastor Touré Roberts, Sarah Jakes Roberts (Photo: 5W Public Relations)

Christian Post Report – Daughter of popular preacher T.D. Jakes, Sarah Jakes Roberts (R), and her husband, Touré Roberts, senior pastor of One Church International in Hollywood, California (L).

Before marrying Pastor Touré Roberts, Sarah Jakes Roberts admits she didn’t want to have any more children.

“After a couple of heartbreaks and life as a single mother I swore I’d never have any more children. I almost let the possibility of being broken again keep me from experiencing restoration,” Jakes Roberts wrote in a personal Instagram message Thursday. “I had to realize that love and faith must dwell in the same heart. Greater than hope, faith is rooted in confirmation and a word from God.”

Jakes Roberts, author, motivational speaker and daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes, is expecting her first child with husband Touré Roberts, the senior pastor of One Church International in Hollywood, California. While their official due date is not known publicly, the mother-to-be has been transparent about her emotions during the pregnancy.

In her latest Instagram post, the first lady of One Church International spoke about how being vulnerable in her marriage has helped her become a better woman during her pregnancy.

“I’ve had to be vulnerable with my husband in new ways. I’ve had to be honest enough to vocalize how I felt about change,” she revealed. “As I’ve embraced the expansion of my physical appearance I’ve noticed the parallel growth my soul is enduring. I am unequivocally more beautiful on the inside because a part of @toureroberts has developed inside of me.”

She went on to glorify God for her husband showing her what love is.

“You’ve shown me the true meaning of love is not about comfort, but about trusting stability exists even when everything is changing. You’re my rock, my love, my king,” she said. “I thank God for allowing me to experience this with you.”

The Roberts married November 2014, in what has become a second marriage for each of them.

Sarah initially brought her two children into the union with Touré’s three children from a previous relationship.

Jakes Roberts told Essence magazine back in August about her feelings of excitement concerning her pregnancy.

For Touré and I, having a child together is the organic overflow of the love that we have been so blessed to share. When I initially found out that I was pregnant, I was overwhelmed with surprise, excitement, and joy,” she told Essence. “Each of our children offer a special flavor to the blend that is our family. While we are ecstatic to know that our baby will represent a piece of each of us, we look forward to the unique individuality and impact our new addition is sure to bring to our family.”

Tim Tebow Describes His Perfect Match on ‘Ellen’

Tim Tebow (Photo: Reuters/Eric Henderson)

Christian Post Report – Tim Tebow arrives at the 48th Country Music Association Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, November 5, 2014.

While Tim Tebow is known more for sharing his Christian faith than his private life, the NFL hopeful has told Ellen DeGeneres everything he’s looking for in a dating partner and future spouse.

During a segment on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday, Tebow told the daytime talk show host that he was atill single, which led the audience to errupt in cheers.

After DeGeneres asked the 28-year-old SEC analyst what he was looking for in a partner, he sheepishly responded: “Obviously, someone that I’m extremely attracted to. But I think there has to be more there, there has to be depth, you know. You have to have similar beliefs, you have to have chemistry, character. But there has to be something more than just glitz and glamour.”

When DeGeneres asked if Tebow dates a lot, he said, “some, yea. When I find the right one.”

Last year, rumors surfaced that Tebow was romantically involved with former Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo. The New York Daily News reported that the rumored couple broke up on Thanksgiving Day because Culpo did not want to abstain from sex with Tebow, a virgin.

“He was really into her. He was sending her love letters and cute notes and professing his love for her,” a source reportedly told the newspaper.

“She had to break up with him because she just couldn’t handle it,” the alleged source added. “He still hits her up, but she just can’t deal with the sex thing. He’s pretty adamant about it, I guess.”

Subsequently, TMZ reported that those claims were false.

“Well, sources close to the situation tell us Tebow and Culpo’s romantic relationship never went beyond the rumor stage. We’re told the chatter started after Olivia and Tim met in church a few months ago — and even though their reps denied it, a lot of people ran with it,” TMZ reported. “Our sources say Tim did show interest in Olivia, and they hung out a few times WITH mutual friends … but never had a one-on-one date.”

The athlete has previously been linked to actress Camilla Belle and reality television star Jana Duggar. In 2014, reports surfaced that Christian reality television patriarch Jim Bob Duggar wanted the athlete to date his daughter, Jana.

In 2014, Tebow was questioned about finding a wife after years of telling the public that he’s a single man, and spoke about the importance of looking for more than a pretty face.

“Of course it’s important to be attracted to someone, but it really needs to be about who they are on the inside. I’ve always been attracted to girls whose hearts are the biggest thing about them,” he told People. “People can be very sweet and kind to others who can do a lot for them. I want to find a girl who will be the same person to those who can’t do anything for her in return.”
