ISIS Destroys Ancient Iraqi Christian Church and Turns It Into ‘Mosque of the Mujahideen’ for Islamic Jihadists

Christian Post Report – An 1,800-year-old church being burnt to the ground in Mosul, Iraq.

One of Mosul’s largest Christian churches is being destroyed and turned into a mosque for Islamic State jihadists.

The Islamic State terror group posted flyers throughout Mosul announcing in a decree that the Syrian Orthodox Church of St. Ephraim is reopening as the “mosque of the mujahideen” or jihad fighters. Christian symbols and relics have already been scrubbed and demolished from the ancient church.

It’s believed that all Christians have either been executed or have evacuated the city since Islamic militants overran the area last year. Christians were told to flee or face execution.

“They (ISIS) take everything from us, but they cannot take the God from our hearts, they cannot,” said Nicodemus Sharaf, archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Mosul, who’s now a refugee.

The BBC reported Tuesday that homes belonging to Christians and other religious minorities have been confiscated or marked for demolition. A man calling himself Hisham told the BBC that many Muslims no longer go to the mosques because they have become so radicalized.

“The group has even replaced the imams in the mosques with pro-IS people,” said Hisham. “Many of us have stopped going to the mosques because those attending are asked to give an oath of allegiance and we hate that.”

A woman named Hanaa also talked to the BBC and described ISIS’ restrictions on women under Shariah law: “We had heard stories of men being flogged because their wives didn’t put their gloves on.”

Nuri Kino, founder and president of A Demand for Action, an organization that seeks to protect religious minorities in the Middle East, told Newsweek that the continued attacks against Christians is all part of the religious cleansing IS demands.

“They destroy our artefacts, our churches and try to erase us in any way they can,” he said.

Last year in The Washington Post, Ishaan Tharoor noted:

“The militants espouse a radical, puritanical strain of Sunni Islam whereby all shrines or holy sites that honor lesser beings than their God are considered apostate.”

Islamic militants have said they do not care whether a historic relic or piece of religious art “costs billions of dollars,” according to them, Allah orders their destruction.

The situation for Christians has grown so desperate that Iraqi Archbishop Bashar Warda told “60 Minutes” in March that the only way to stop the death and destruction is to defeat them militarily.

“Sometimes you take some hard measures, unfortunate measures, to deal and treat this cancer,” he asserted.

In April, Newsweek reported grim comments by Max Abrahms, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and political science professor at Northeastern University, who believes that if Mosul is taken back by coalition forces or the Iraqi government they will find out that the number of executions have been underestimated in that city.

“I think that initially, last summer, the international community was not paying that much attention to Islamic State. During that time, under the nose of the international community, they slaughtered thousands of civilians.”

A girl holds up a sign that reads: “I am an Iraqi, I am a Christian” at Mar Girgis Church in Baghdad, July 20, 2014. The head of Iraq’s largest church said on Sunday that Islamic State militants who drove Christians out of Mosul were worse than Mongol leader Genghis Khan and his grandson Hulagu who ransacked medieval Baghdad. Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako led a wave of condemnation for the Sunni Islamists who demanded Christians either convert, submit to their radical rule and pay a religious levy or face death by the sword. Sako was speaking at the special church service in east Baghdad where around 200 Muslims joined Christians in solidarity.

Christian Conservative Pat Boone on Caitlyn Jenner: ‘Everybody Should Go Read First Chapter in the Book of Romans’

Pat Boone released a new album as a tribute to The Ink Spots May 1, 2012.

Christian Post Report – Iconic Christian singer and actor Pat Boone says that “everybody should go read first chapter in the Book of Romans” when considering Bruce Jenner’s recent transition into Caitlyn Jenner.

Bruce Jenner, a former Olympic gold medalist, came out as a transgender woman Caitlyn Jenner earlier this month. She appeared also appeared in Vanity Fair magazine where she talked openly about her transition.

Boone, who has sold nearly 50 million records since his career began in the 1950s, shared his thoughts on Jenner while speaking to The Christian Post on Tuesday.

“Well I feel sad, I do feel sad for him. There’s a lot of things that influence something like that, and he had a lot of unhappiness,” said the 81-year-old entertainer. “I think he has eight kids, doesn’t he? That, I hope, was a major consideration, I don’t know how he worked that out in his mind, on his children. But it’s his life, and there’s a whole chapter in the book of Romans that talks about things like this happening. You can read all about it. In fact, everybody should go read first chapter Romans.”

He added: “It doesn’t matter what I think about it, it’s what God says.”

In Romans Chapter 1, the Apostle Paul condemns sexual behavior such as homosexuality as sinful. In verse 24, it reads: “Therefore God gave them over in the in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator – who is forever praised. Amen.”

In verses 26-27 he continues: “For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.”

Jenner’s transition has been met with both praise and criticism, and she is now widely considered to be the most famous openly transgender person in the world.

Boone is well known for covering rhythm and blues hits of the ’50s and ’60s such as “Tutti Frutti,” and Elvis Presley was once the opening act for his show in 1955. Over the course of Boone’s legendary career, the gospel singer has enjoyed 38 Top 40 hits and countless gold and platinum records. Also a best-selling author, he has served as a motivational speaker, television personality, and conservative political commentator over the past six decades.

Bishop of Oslo Speaks Out Against ‘Unacceptable’ Music Video Simulating Gay Sex With Priest Before Church Altar

Christian Post Report – The Bishop of Oslo is speaking out after Norwegian entertainer Tooji used Oslo’s Frogner Church as a backdrop for a raunchy music video where the singer announced his sexual orientation by filming an intimate encounter taking place in front of the church’s altar with another man portraying a priest.

Touraj Keshtkar, the 28-year-old entertainer known as Tooji who represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, announced his homosexuality on Monday with the release of his “Father” music video. The visuals were filmed in the Frogner Church in Oslo, Norway where Tooji kissed a man portraying a priest before both men stripped naked in an intimate exchange before what appeared to be a supportive congregation.

As the video progresses, the pair turn into angels while they are embracing intimately.

Once the Bishop of Oslo, Ole Christian Kvarme, caught wind of the video he released a statement about Tooji’s video.

“I was informed about the case after it was taken a decision in Frogner parish to lease out the nave and the recordings were made . Regardless of the music video’s message and the sender is shooting intimate scenes before the altar totally unacceptable and is a gross abuse of the church,” the Bishop said in a statement on the Norwegian Church’s official website. “Nave should never be used as a visual backdrop for sexual scenes in a commercial production.”

While Tooji spoke out about wanting to make the music video to put “human rights above religion” because of intolerance of homosexuality, the Bishop did not cite that as the reason he felt the video was egregious.

“A similar scene between man and woman would be equally unacceptable . What has happened here violates the rules and regulations we have for the use of church space,” said the Bishop. “Beyond this, it is not natural for me to comment further.”

The Norwegian Church website explains that the bishop was not informed about the content of the video before the space was rented out. When Tooji approached Frogner church officials to rent the location for his music video last April, he reportedly left out the fact that the project would include raunchy scenes.

“The church has pointed out that there are scenes in the film that does not correspond to the project description that formed the basis for their decision,” information from Frogner parish states.

Since releasing the music video, Tooji was reportedly fired from being presenter of Nordic Eurovision talent show Melodi Grand Prix Junior, according to Breitbart.com reports.

Imprisoned Sudanese Pastors Facing Death Penalty Barred From Seeing Lawyers, Family Following Visit by American Pastor

Sudan (Photo: Reuters)

Christian Post Report – Catholic priests and nuns arrive for a religious ceremony for late John Garang in New Site village in Southern Sudan August 2, 2005. [Southern Sudanese grieved their former leader John Garang around a simple bed on Tuesday and hoped the peace deal he struck would stick under his successor despite rioting over his death that killed 24 people.]

Two Sudanese pastors who are potentially facing the death penalty after being arrested and imprisoned on trumped-up charges of alleged conspiracy and espionage, were removed from a low-security military prison and transferred to a more dangerous facility where they’ve been denied access to visitors, the pastors lawyers have said.

Revs. Peter Yen Reith and Yat Michael, who’ve been detained since the winter and charged with violating seven laws including spying, undermining the government and insulting religion, were transferred from the Omdurman Prison for Men outside of Khartoum — where they were allowed to see their families and lawyers — to Kober Prison in North Khartoum, a high-security detention center.

According to an advocacy group closely following the case, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, no one — not even their wives or lawyers — has been allowed to visit with the pastors since their transfer to Kober.

Michael and Reith, who are clergymen from the South Sudan Evangelical Presbyterian Church, had been held in Omdurman Prison since March 1 and were last seen there on June 3, the day in which they were visited by three other Sudanese pastors and American pastor the Rev. William Devlin, who was detained for over an hour and prevented from visiting with the pastors after guards caught him taking photos and video inside the prison waiting room.

Concerns were raised about the whereabouts of the pastors after family members were denied access to them on June 4, but prison officials confirmed on June 6 that the pastors were transferred.

Two Sudanese Pastors Yat Michael and Peter Yein Reith are facing the death penalty for preaching the Gospel in Sudan.

“We are concerned by this development in the clergymen’s case. They already endured extended detention without access to their families at the beginning of this year, and they and their families should be spared further emotional distress,” Christian Solidarity Worldwide’s Chief Executive, Mervyn Thomas, said in a statement shared with The Christian Post.

“We urge the Sudanese authorities to ensure that the clergymen’s detention is regularised, and they are permitted regular family visits and unhindered access to their lawyers. The decision to detain them at a higher security prison should be reconsidered, given that they have not been found guilty of any crime.”

CSW believes that the Sudan National Intelligence and Security Service may have issued an order to prison officials telling them not to allow Reith and Michael to have any visitors.

The pastors’ lawyers met with Sudan’s director of prisons on June 7 and requested access to the pastors. However, they were directed to talk with the director of Kober Prison, who told the lawyers they needed a court order.

The lawyers request for a court order was denied because the court ruled that the decision should be left to the prison director.

CSW also reports that although there was no official reason given for the pastors’ not being allowed to have visitors, there is speculation that the move “may have been triggered by the actions of foreign visitors,” an implication that it may have been the result of Devlin’s visit.

Devlin, who pastors the Infinity Bible Church in the Bronx, has visited Sudan eight times in the last nine years and always stays as a guest of Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Karti, he told CP last week. Upon his latest visit, he was invited by the three Sudanese pastors to go with them to visit Michael and Reith in prison.

Although the last time the pastors were seen in Omdurman Prison was the day in which Devlin was detained there, Devlin told CP on Tuesday that he was told that the transfer was already being planned prior to his visit.

“A Muslim colleague in Khartoum reported to me yesterday, that the move of the two imprisoned pastors was in the works prior to my 90-minute detention on June 3,” Devlin wrote in a statement. “My detention was unintended by me. However, I pray that God would use my detention to make known the plight of these two innocent pastors.”

Devlin had previously urged American and Western pastors to travel to Sudan to visit with the pastors and prove to Sudanese government officials that religious freedom violations impact how the country is viewed by potential international trade partners. Even though the pastors have been moved to a high-security prison where they are not allowed visitors, Devlin still encourages International pastors to travel to Khartoum to make a statement and support the pastors families.

“Western pastors, African pastors, European pastors must go to Khartoum to advocate for these imprisoned pastors,” Devlin wrote. “Even if they cannot visit them, they can meet with their wives and support their wives and children financially.”

The next scheduled hearing for the pastors will take place on June 15.

Keeping a Clear Mind

Christian Post Report – Romans 12:1-2

The human mind is an amazing creation of God. Nothing on earth can match its capabilities or creativity. It controls feelings, thoughts, words, attitudes, and behavior. Who we become and what we achieve are largely due to how and what we think. Wouldn’t it make sense to let the One who created us guide our thought processes?

  • Dr. Charles F. Stanley
    (Photo: In Touch Ministries)
    Dr. Charles F. Stanley (File).

A clear mind is one that’s aligned with God’s Word and controlled by His Spirit. When the Lord has authority over our thoughts, discernment will guard our perspective. He empowers us to look beyond the surface and view situations as they really are. We can distinguish not just between right and wrong but also between good and best. The Lord has granted us the ability to think rightly no matter what challenges may face us.

But such clear, focused thinking must be deliberately chosen and diligently maintained. If we don’t guard against the world’s influence, we will find ourselves squeezed into its mold. Soon we’ll have a fragmented mind that cannot focus on spiritual things because it is cluttered and clogged with worldly thoughts and concerns. We must carefully consider what we allow into our minds. So ask yourself, Is this helping me become the person God wants me to be, or is it hindering the process?

A renewed mind begins with surrender to the Lord. Until you give Him full authority over your thoughts, you’ll have no power to clear out the clutter that hinders you from living in the fullness of His will. But as you yield to Him and fill your mind with His Word, He’ll transform your life.

Ikea Shopper Claims Jesus’ Face Appeared to Him in Bathroom Stall; Friends Say it Looks Like ‘Tree People from Lord of the Rings’

Christian Post Report – A shopper who recently went to an Ikea furniture store in search of some curtain tiebacks in Glasgow, United Kingdom, said he found more than he bargained for when he stumbled upon the image of Jesus Christ in a bathroom stall.

David Simons, the 33-year-old shopper who works with props in the film industry, says the likeness of Jesus appeared to him on the wooden door of the toilet stall he was using in the restroom of the store. He claims he saw the outline of eyes and a moustache.

His friends however were less than convinced that he saw Jesus Christ in the bathroom stall.

“I think it looks like Jesus but some of my friends think it looks more like one of the tree people from ‘Lord of the Rings’,” he said in a Daily Mail UK report.

Although he claims to have experienced an encounter with the divine, Simons said Jesus did not help him find what he was initially looking for in the store.

“I actually went for tiebacks for curtains but they didn’t have any. ‘So Jesus didn’t help us there,” he told Daily Mail.

Simons is not the first person who has claimed to see the face of Jesus in an unorthodox place. Last March, Colombian newspaper El Tiempo reported about locals charging people to see the image of Jesus that reportedly surfaced on the side of a hill following a landslide in Putumayo, Colombia.

A number of people have also claimed to see the likeness of Jesus in a variety of foods, which Buzzfeed compiled a list of in 2013.

Christian Singer Dan Bremnes Premieres New Music Video for Worship Song ‘Where The Light Is’

World Exclusive: Dan Bremnes - "Where The Light Is" (music video)

Christian Post Report – World Exclusive: Dan Bremnes – "Where The Light Is" (music video)

Christian singer and songwriter Dan Bremnes released a brand new music video Wednesday for his hit single “Where The Light Is” which he said he wrote at “probably the darkest point of my life.”

The Canadian-born singer previously told the Christian Post that he wrote the song during what he described as “probably the darkest point of my life” and the video, he said, represents his search for light in a world of gloom.

“My hope and my prayer is that these songs will reach people,” Bremnes said of his album, which debuted on June 9 under the same name as his hit single. “I want to make music because I believe God uses music to reach His people’s hearts. I hope that these songs can speak to people and be a part of their journey and be a blessing in people’s lives.”

Canadian-born singer/songwriter premiered the music video for his hit song “Where The Light Is”

Bremnes, who rose to stardom following the 2014 release of his debut single “Beautiful,” continues to win fans from around the world who are praising his pensive lyrics and impressive vocals.

In “Where The Light Is” he sings: “When I’m lost in the night / When I’m losing the fight / Lead me where the light is / When the tears fill my eyes / When the hope’s hard to find / Lead me where the light is.”

“… A few years ago, I was actually traveling at the time and I got the news that my Mom had lost her life that night in a car accident,” Bremnes said of the inspiration behind his latest song. “I found myself in a very dark place, and for the first time in my life I realized I need Jesus as much as someone whose never known Him needs Him. And so, it was a faith structure for sure, and I remember just thinking all I know how to do is call to Jesus, and it was tough but it was also amazing because I realized that He’s there for me too.”

The married father of one has won four GMA Canada Covenant Awards, including Pop/Contemporary Song and Recorded Song of the Year for “Beautiful” which peaked at No. 14 on the National Christian Audience Chart. Bremnes previously described his accolades as “exciting.”

“That was exciting because I actually wrote the song almost 10 years ago, and I think the reason why people have responded to it is it came from a very real place,” he said. “I had just come back to God, and my life was kind of broken and it just kind of came out as a prayer … I wasn’t thinking radio, I wasn’t thinking anything, I was just singing to God.”
