PODCAST: The Prayer Motivator Minute #917 with Daniel Whyte III

Prayer Motivator Minute #917

Leonard Ravenhill said, “A man who is intimate with God will never be intimidated by men.”

This is Daniel Whyte III with the Prayer Motivator Minute #917 here to remind you that there is still great power in prayer to God Almighty in the holy Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our prayer motivator verse from the Word of God today is James 5:16 which says: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Our prayer motivator quote today is from Charles Spurgeon. He said, “Intercessory prayer is exceedingly prevalent. What wonders it has wrought! The Word of God teems with its marvelous deeds. Believer, thou hast a mighty engine in thy hand, use it well, use it constantly, use it with faith, and thou shalt surely be a benefactor to thy brethren.”

PRAYER

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time,

Remember, friend, Pray, Think, Do! God Bless You!

PODCAST: The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #461: Amos 5:21-22 with Daniel Whyte III

This is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International with The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #461, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary or Matthew Henry Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Amos 5:21-22.

21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

________

That was Amos 5:21-22. Now here is the sense of it.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

God’s burning anger was directed mostly against Israel’s religious hypocrisy. He hated, He despised (the repetition indicates vehemence and passion) their religious feasts—the three pilgrimage festivals of Unleavened Bread, Harvest (Weeks), and Ingathering (Tabernacles) which were celebrated annually at the sanctuary. He could not stand the offerings of their assemblies. Though they continually brought Him burnt offerings and grain offerings, He would not accept them as legitimate sacrifices. Though they brought choice fellowship offerings, He would have no regard for or awareness of them. He loathed every part of their religious worship.

____________

Thank you for listening to the Scripture & The Sense Podcast. Remember to read the Word of God each and every day and pray without ceasing to God for wisdom to understand it and apply it to your life. Most importantly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Please stay tuned for a complete presentation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can get your soul saved from Hell to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.

An epidemic of porch pirates: We build the future by how we live in the present

Porch piracy has been an escalating problem for years. You know how it works: a delivery service leaves a package on your porch which a thief sees before you do and takes it to their house before you can take it inside yours.

As you might imagine in these days of social distancing,
more people than ever are having packages delivered to their homes. Everything
from groceries to clothes to presents is being left on our porches. And
everything left there is a target for porch pirates.

The other day, my wife went to our front door to bring
inside some groceries that had been delivered. She noticed a man walking in
front of our house who had been looking at the bags left on our porch. As soon
as she went out to pick them up, he walked away quickly.

About eleven million homeowners reported having a package
stolen in 2017; a different survey in 2018 found that almost a fifth of
Americans said they had been such a victim.

Now a new study tells us even more about these thieves in our midst. In its research, few thieves attempted to disguise themselves. Neither fences, cameras, nor vehicles parked in the driveway seemed to deter them. Some appeared to be actually following delivery vehicles.

Some carried “dummy items” such as paperwork or
packages to make them seem legitimate. In virtually every incident, a single
person took the packages. In a third of the cases, there was also an accomplice
who usually served as a getaway driver.

Especially disconcerting is the speed at which the thefts transpired. From start to finish, the researchers documented several that took less than thirty seconds to complete.

We build the future by how we live in the present

If I could speak to these thieves (and to
every other sinner such as myself), I would offer two biblical reminders:

One: “Be sure your
sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).

Even if you think no one saw your sin,
know that the Lord of the universe “knows everything” (1…

WATCH: Dolly Parton Launches Children’s Bedtime Story Video Series “Goodnight With Dolly”

Dolly Parton announced Monday that she will be launching a video series during which she will read bedtime stories to children in order to provide them with a “welcome distraction during a time of unrest.”

“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right,” Parton wrote in a blog post. “I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love.”

The 10-week “Goodnight with Dolly” series is an extension of Parton’s efforts to increase childhood literacy through her initiative “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library,” the book gifting program she established in 1995, and its first episode will air on Imagination Library’s YouTube page Thursday.

Among the books Parton plans to read during the series is the children’s classic “The Little Engine That Could,” which the nine-time Grammy winner says she has always found to be a “source of inspiration.” She will also read Sophy Henn’s “Pass It On,” Patty Lovell’s “Stand Tall Molly Lou Mellon,” Steve Breen’s “Violet the Pilot” and Matt de la Peña’s “Last Stop on Market Street” as well as two books Parton wrote herself, “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Am a Rainbow.”

PODCAST: Whyte House Daily Devotional Bible Reading #126: Deuteronomy 4, Psalm 129 and 2 Thessalonians 3 with Daniel Whyte IIIx

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Daily Devotional Bible Reading Episode #126. Where I read three chapters of the Holy Bible in the King James Version each day with my family as a part of our family devotions, to encourage you to read the Holy Bible in a year’s time. Today we are reading Deuteronomy 4, Psalm 129 and 2 Thessalonians 3.

Dwight L. Moody said, “I know the Bible is inspired because it inspires me.”

C. S. Lewis said, “We come to Scripture not to learn a subject but to steep ourselves in a Person.”

Deuteronomy 4
1 Now therefore hearken, O Is’-ra-el, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.

2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

3 Your eyes have seen what the Lord did because of Ba-al-pe’-or: for all the men that followed Ba-al-pe’-or, the Lord thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

4 But ye that did cleave unto the Lord your God are alive every one of you this day.

5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Ho’-reb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

12 And the Lord spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Ho’-reb out of the midst of the fire:

16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:

19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

20 But the Lord hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of E’-gypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 Furthermore the Lord was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jor’-dan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:

22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jor’-dan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.

23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the Lord thy God hath forbidden thee.

24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

25 When thou shalt beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the Lord thy God, to provoke him to anger:

26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jor’-dan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 And the Lord shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the Lord shall lead you.

28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;

31 (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for you in E’-gypt before your eyes?

35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else beside him.

36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.

37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of E’-gypt;

38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.

39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, for ever.

41 Then Mo’-ses severed three cities on this side Jor’-dan toward the sunrising;

42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

43 Namely, Be’-zer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reu’-ben-ites; and Ra’-moth in Gil’-e-ad, of the Gad’-ites; and Go’-lan in Ba’-shan, of the Ma-nas’-sites.

44 And this is the law which Mo’-ses set before the children of Is’-ra-el:

45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Mo’-ses spake unto the children of Is’-ra-el, after they came forth out of E’-gypt.

46 On this side Jor’-dan, in the valley over against Beth-pe’-or, in the land of Si’-hon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Hesh’-bon, whom Mo’-ses and the children of Is’-ra-el smote, after they were come forth out of E’-gypt:

47 And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Ba’-shan, two kings of the Am’-o-rites, which were on this side Jor’-dan toward the sunrising;

48 From A-ro’-er, which is by the bank of the river Ar’-non, even unto mount Si’-on, which is Her’-mon,

49 And all the plain on this side Jor’-dan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pis’-gah.

Psalm 129
A Song of degrees.
1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Is’-ra-el now say:

2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.

4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zi’-on.

6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.

2 Thessalonians 3
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.

5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Je’-sus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8 Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Je’-sus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

17 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Je’-sus Christ be with you all. A’-men.

When I was a teenager I wanted to get wisdom and knowledge, so I set out to read the big family Bible that many families had in those days. But I couldn’t get past Genesis 2 before I got bored with reading the Bible. I found out later in life that you have to believe on Christ and get saved before you can understand the Bible. So here is how I became a Christian and how you can too:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior today, please email me at [email protected] and let us know. There is some free material that we want to send you. If you have a prayer request, please e-mail that to us as well, and we will pray for you until you tell us to stop.

God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.

Majority of Americans Praying ‘for an End’ to Coronavirus Pandemic, Pew Says

Majority of Americans Praying ‘for an End’ to Coronavirus Pandemic, Pew Says

More than half of U.S. adults say they’ve prayed for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new poll that also shows most churchgoers have watched religious services online.

The Pew Research Center survey shows that 55 percent of Americans “have prayed for an end to the spread of coronavirus.” This includes 82 percent of evangelicals, 65 percent of mainline churchgoers and 68 percent of Catholics who have prayed for an end to the pandemic.

“The coronavirus outbreak is having profound impacts on the personal lives of Americans in a variety of ways,” Pew said in its analysis.

Meanwhile, Americans are attending church in-person less due to the coronavirus. Fifty-nine percent of U.S. adults who attend church at least once or twice a month say they’ve attended church “in person less often” due to the coronavirus outbreak, while 57 percent have watched religious services online or on television instead of attending in person.

Among different groups, 65 percent of evangelicals, 54 percent of mainline churchgoers and 46 percent of Catholics have watched services online or on TV instead of attending in-person.

Among all churchgoers, online services and TV services are just as popular among those 65 and over (60 percent) as they are with those ages 18-29 (58 percent).

The pandemic also has changed Americans’ views of gatherings – both large and small.

Scotland Church Sues City Council After Event is Canceled Over Speaker’s Views Against Homosexuality

A multi-campus church in Scotland is suing the Edinburgh City Council after they canceled a conference because of one of the speaker’s views on homosexuality.

Destiny Church, which is based in Glasgow, planned to use Edinburgh’s Usher Hall for its “Surge Conference.” However, the City Council canceled the event after they received complaints about the views of one of the main speakers, The Christian Post reports.

Larry Stockstill, who was formerly the pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge, LA, was scheduled to speak at the event. In a 2007 book titled He Teaches My Hands to War, Stockhill wrote, “Don’t be deceived. Homosexuality is not normal behavior and it is not accepted by God.”

A spokesperson for the City Council explained their decision, saying, “The Destiny Church event at the Usher Hall was canceled due to the keynote speaker’s publicly-stated views about same-sex relationships which are, in the council’s opinion, offensive and discriminatory.” He continued, “We are committed to promoting diversity and equal rights for all. The proposed event did not meet the standards which we expect from those hiring and visiting our venues to respect and observe and the booking was therefore cancelled.” He acknowledged the free speech issues the cancellation raised but admitted that their decision was ultimately guided by their commitment to protect LGBT people from speech that calls their lifestyles sinful, Edinburg Evening News reports. “The council is mindful of the need to protect freedom of speech, but will not allow its venues to be used as a platform for speakers who discriminate against particular sections of society,” the spokesperson added.

The church said that in “protecting people from discrimination,” they actually ended up discriminating against the church.” Destiny Church’s senior pastor Andrew Owen said, “We understand that this is a fairly clear-cut breach of the freedom of thought, conscience, and religion and the freedom of expression enshrined in the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights.)” He continued, “Under the Equality Act 2010, the city of Edinburgh Council is also discriminating on the grounds of religious belief.”

Trump Applauds Franklin Graham and Samaritan’s Purse for Fighting Coronavirus: ‘He Loves Jesus’

President Trump on Tuesday commended the work of Samaritan’s Purse, calling its founder Franklin Graham a “very special” person who is making a difference in the fight against COVID-19.

Samaritan’s Purse set up a 68-bed emergency field hospital in New York City’s Central Park and is partnering with Mount Sinai Health System. The field hospital will care for those who have the coronavirus.

Trump was asked about Graham during Tuesday’s Coronavirus Task Force press conference.

“I just spoke to him today for an extended period of time,” Trump said. “I told him what a fantastic job you’re doing, and … he loves doing it. He loves helping people. And he loves Jesus — that I can tell you. He loves Jesus. He’s a great gentleman.”

Graham appeared on FoxNews’ Hannity program Tuesday, saying the field hospital has about 70 doctors, nurses and technicians.

“We’ve got an incredible group of men and women that respond in Jesus’ name when there’s a crisis,” Graham said. “… This is a desperate situation. … And we’ve got people there that have experience dealing with infectious diseases.”

Jim Denison on April Fool’s Day and the Urgency of Collective Prayer

April Fool’s Day has seldom seemed less appropriate than in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. But in the spirit of the day, let’s begin with the story of a woman in New Jersey who violated her state’s stay-at-home order when she allegedly tossed a Molotov cocktail at a boyfriend’s residence.

She has been charged with a disorderly persons offense for violating the governor’s order. As you might expect, she also faces arson and weapons charges. Fortunately, as the Attorney General’s office noted, her weapon “did not detonate.”

For some more good news on this April 1: a giant, “potentially hazardous” asteroid will miss us this month. NASA has named the asteroid 1998 OR2. It is about the width of Manhattan Island and could wreak havoc if it crashed into Earth.

However, at its closest it will be 3.9 million miles from us (more than sixteen times the average distance between us and the moon). We won’t see it again until May 18, 2031. It will return again in 2048, 2062, and 2079, when it will only be 1.1 million miles away.

When I read about 1998 OR2, here was my thought: How do NASA’s experts know how far it will be from us? Or when it will return?

I had a similar question while walking early yesterday morning. Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter were all visible in the predawn sky. Or so a website told me. I would have otherwise been unable to name them or to know that they are planets in our solar system.

As I continued walking, I realized that I don’t know how to make anything that I saw. I don’t know how to make bricks, much less a brick house. I don’t know how to make a car’s fender, much less the entire car. I couldn’t make the concrete on which I was walking or the clothes I was wearing.

Nearly everything we take for granted is something some group of people didn’t take for granted. Rather, they pooled their experience and expertise to do what none of them could have done alone.

I am taking us down this road to make a point that relates directly to our spiritual awakening series this week.

President Trump told Americans yesterday to brace for “a very painful two weeks” as public health officials warn that the coronavirus pandemic could leave 100,000 to 240,000 people in the US dead. We are responding to a crisis that is unprecedented in my lifetime by seeking a spiritual awakening that is also unprecedented in my lifetime.

We’re focusing on this familiar text: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
