British Prime Minister Johnson Tests Positive for Coronavirus

LONDON (AP) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Friday he has tested positive for the new coronavirus, but remains in charge of the U.K.’s response to the outbreak.

Johnson’s office said he was tested on the advice of the chief medical officer after showing mild symptoms.

It said Johnson is self-isolating at his 10 Downing St. residence and continuing to lead the country’s response to COVID-19.

In a video message, Johnson said he had a temperature and a persistent cough.

“Be in no doubt that I can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all my top team, to lead the national fightback against coronavirus.”

Earlier this week Britain’s Prince Charles announced that he had tested positive for the virus.

St. Corona is the patron saint of resisting epidemics: How will you be remembered when the pandemic is over?

St. Corona: By Master of Palazzo Venezia Madonna, Public Domain

The news we’re all waiting for, of course, is the announcement that scientists have discovered a vaccine or cure for coronavirus. We trust that day will come one day.

When it does, as with crises of the past, we will remember then what people are doing now. From the president and members of Congress to our local leaders and those we know personally, actions taken (or not taken) today will echo for many years to come.

As a result, this day is the best day to decide how we want to be remembered when the pandemic is over. Let’s look at some predictions for future outcomes of the present crisis, then decide what legacy we wish to write for ourselves.

A new era of bipartisanship?

The US Senate unanimously approved a $2.2 trillion economic package late Wednesday night. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi predicts that it will pass the House today with “strong bipartisan support.”

James Baker, the former secretary of state and treasury, hopes that such bipartisanship will continue: “Americans must once again learn to talk sincerely with each other about solutions to our problems rather than yell at each other about the cause of them. The current dilemma presents all of us with the opportunity to begin reversing this troubling trend.”

Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago, agrees: “The two positives I see are that, rather than view the federal government as a problem, we might start to see it as a solution, as a net plus. And second, we might end this period of not investing in America.”

Politics professor Samuel J. Abrams believes that the pandemic could bring about a “critical realignment” whereby Americans turn away from partisanship and a new coalition rises “to alter and realign the current, entrenched, polarized state.”

A new commitment to compassion?

Elton John will host a benefit concert airing Sunday night that pays tribute…

What do you think when you hear the word disrupted? When you’re thinking of that word it can be negative, but the reality is that the greatest movements in the church have occurred due to disruption. In today’s episode, Thom and Sam discuss many of the positive aspects of disruption within the church.

Highlights:

  • Disruption, properly understood, can be a good thing.
  • Many churches are declining and dying because they have not been disrupted.
  • An older example of disruption: multi-site
  • A current example of disruption: churches partnering with businesses for revenue.
  • Disruption is ultimately change leadership and has to be treated as such.

PODCAST: How to Overcome Temptation, Part 137 (Envy) (Onward Christian Soldiers Discipleship Class #261 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to the Onward Christian Soldiers Discipleship Class. I am Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society and pastor of Gospel Light House of Prayer International. The purpose of this time together is to teach young believers everything they need to know about their faith in Jesus Christ and provide them with the knowledge they need to live victorious Christian lives.

Our key Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:13:

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

— PRAYER —

Our lesson today is titled “How to Overcome Temptation, Part 137 (Envy)”

In this section of our Onward Christian Soldiers discipleship class, we are looking at specific temptations that are, as the Bible says, “common to man.” We are looking at what the Bible says about these sins so we can be aware of its dangers and so that we can hide Scripture in our hearts to use when we are tempted.

The sin that we are looking at today is the sin of envy. This is the fifth sin in a list of 12 temptations that comes from two sources — one ancient and one modern. The first source is a list that was developed by monks in the early church called “the seven deadly sins” or the “cardinal sins.” The second source is a Barna survey from 2011 which tracked the top temptations Americans admitted to struggling with.

Today, we are looking at Ecclesiastes 4:4-6. (Remember, the text of this lesson is made available online after each class, so you can go to our website Gospellighthouseofprayer.com, click the “Onward Christian Soldiers” banner on the home page, and begin to learn these verses by heart throughout the week.)

Ecclesiastes 4:4-6: “Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh. Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.”

– – – – –

Alphonsus Liguori said, “The soul that loves Jesus Christ does not envy the great ones of this world but only those who are greater lovers of Jesus Christ.”

John Vianney said, “Envy follows pride; whoever is envious is proud. See, envy comes to us from Hell; the devils having sinned through pride, sinned also through envy, envying our glory, our happiness. Why do we envy the happiness and the goods of others? Because we are proud; we should like to be the sole possessors of talents, riches, of the esteem and love of all the world! We hate our equals, because they are our equals; our inferiors, from the fear that they may equal us; our superiors, because they are above us. In the same way, my children, that the devil after his fall felt, and still feels, extreme anger at seeing us the heirs of the glory of the good God, so the envious man feels sadness at seeing the spiritual and temporal prosperity of his neighbour.”

The Bible Knowledge Commentary says about this passage, “The first inappropriate incentive Solomon referred to was envy of others. He said that all labor and all achievement spring from man’s envy of his neighbor and that envy is futile or meaningless and a chasing after the wind. Some uncertainty exists about the meaning of 4:5 because the metaphors folds his hands and “eats his meat” refer elsewhere to sloth and self-destruction. However, the view that Ecclesiastes 4:5 refers to a commendation of contentment with the simple needs of life with a minimum of effort (i.e., folding his hands) fits in better with Solomon’s recommendation in Ecclesiastes 4:6 to be content with one handful accompanied by tranquillity rather than a lot accompanied by toil and anxious striving, which he characterized as chasing after the wind.”

In today’s passage, King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, warns us against envy. First we are told that enviousness is vanity, meaning that it is pointless or useless. We are wasting time when we are envious of the things that others have done. Ask yourself this: will the spirit of envy you have bring any benefit in your life? No it won’t. In fact, it prevents you from doing something yourself. Second we are told that enviousness is a vexation of spirit. Not only is envy futile, it consumes your thoughts and has your spirit constantly disturbed by what others are doing. Envy is allowing people to live rent-free inside your head. Instead of enjoying the peace of God and meditating on His word, you are in a constant state of exasperation because you are consumed with what others are doing. David Guzik said, “The Preacher thought of those who gain success through toil and skillful work – and how it simply brought envy and sometimes hatred from others. This common jealousy of success made life seem like vanity and grasping for the wind. For if a man act uprightly and properly in the world, he soon becomes the object of his neighbour’s envy and calumny too. Therefore the encouragement to do good, to act an upright part, is very little. This constitutes a part of the vain and empty system of human life. The fool folds his hands and consumes his own flesh answers the tendency for those jealous of the success of others to be lazy. Like fools, they fold their hands and do nothing – and so waste away. Yet it wasn’t the success of their neighbor that made them waste away; the foolish, lazy man consumes his own flesh. This expression is really equivalent to ‘destroys himself.’ Better a handful with quietness than both hands full, together with toil and grasping for the wind. The Preacher reflects on the value of contentment. It is better to have less and be content (with quietness) than to have more and constantly be grasping for further success.” Instead of consuming your own flesh with envy, get to work doing something productive and what God wants you to do with your life. Instead of engaging in the vanity of envy, be thankful and content with what God has blessed you with.

Carl Daw wrote:

Gracious Spirit, help us summon
Other guests to share that feast
Where triumphant Love will welcome
Those who had been last and least.
There no more will envy blind us
Nor will pride our peace destroy,
As we join with saints and angels
To repeat the sounding joy.

If you struggle with envy, take this passage to heart and take heed to it the next time you face that temptation.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. PODCAST: How to Stay the Coronavirus Plague Briefing Podcast #5

Welcome to the How to Stay the Coronavirus Plague briefing podcast #5. My name is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International.

Deuteronomy 28:59 says “Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.”

Thomas Constable says, “This section shows Israel deprived of all the benefits she had formerly enjoyed. This section deals with disease and disasters in the land and deportation from the land. Both parts picture a reversal of Exodus blessings. In the later history of Israel the punishments God predicted here took place very literally when the people disobeyed His law. God designed these blessings and curses to persuade His people to obey His covenant with them. Stronger proof of the blessing of obedience and the blasting of disobedience is hardly imaginable. God”s will was very clear and simple: obey His Word.”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “The early church was married to poverty, prisons and persecutions. Today, the church is married to prosperity, personality, and popularity.”

According to the Daily Mail New York Records 100 Coronavirus Deaths in 24 Hours, Bringing State Total to 385, as Number of Fatal Cases Across US Jumps to 1,074 and Infections Increase to 73,000

According to Yahoo COVID-19 could lead to more than 80,000 deaths in the US and overwhelm hospital capacity nationally as soon as early April even if social distancing measures are respected, new research showed Thursday.

According to Washington Post Hospitals are considering universal do-not-resuscitate orders for coronavirus patients.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 says “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”

Dave Ramsey said, “The problem with your company is not the economy, it is not the lack of opportunity, it is not your team. The problem is you. That is the bad news. The good news is, if you’re the problem, you’re also the solution. You’re the one person you can change the easiest. You can decide to grow. Grow your abilities, your character, your education, and your capacity. You can decide who you want to be and get about the business of becoming that person.”

——

Now, if you are with us today and you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Has Coronavirus Changed Hollywood Forever?

Huw Samuel had planned to take his girlfriend to see Universal’s The Invisible Man in a theater near his home south of London. Then the coronavirus crisis changed his plans, as it has for people around the globe in ways both dramatic and mundane.

Like those in America, U.K. cinema chains were forced to close in mid-March, so Samuel, 29, did the next best thing for a date night — he brewed a pot of tea, turned off the lights in his apartment and rented Invisible Man on Amazon Prime for £16, or about $18.

“I thought it was a pretty reasonable price — about what we would have paid for tickets,” says Samuel, an actor and director whose work on a commercial and a feature have been delayed by the pandemic. “It was only corona that put me off going to the cinema … but this has opened my eyes to more streaming possibilities.”

Long before a public health crisis closed exhibitors’ doors, the audience’s retreat from the theater to home video had driven both anxiety and opportunity at entertainment companies. But COVID-19 represents a watershed moment in the business, one that is accelerating current trends in media consumption and forcing Hollywood to embrace its digital future.

Desperation has driven studios to shrink the once sacrosanct 90-day theatrical window, a move some have been contemplating for more than a decade. At the same time, new streaming video services are drawing heavy investment, and though no company wants to be perceived as profiting from the disaster, streaming usage will be up 60 percent overall during the crisis, according to Nielsen. Gaming will spike 75 percent, according to Verizon. Internet demand is already so high in Europe that government officials there have asked Netflix, Amazon, Apple and Disney to reduce the video quality of their streams to lessen the burden on the continent’s networks.

“COVID-19 will expand the gaps between those lagging and leading in the transition to digital distributions and business models,” says venture capitalist Matthew Ball, former head of strategy at Amazon Studios. “OTT video services will surge, while pay TV loses its most valuable content — sports — and sees an accelerated decline in subscriptions and ad revenue. Parks and movie theaters are ground to a halt, while gaming companies hit new highs in usage.”

The virus disaster, which has shut down production at virtually every entertainment company, also has exposed weaknesses, especially in those that carry a heavy debt burden, like ViacomCBS, Endeavor and theater chain AMC Entertainment, or those that rely on travel to theme parks and cruise ships, like Disney. Cowen analyst Doug Creutz has cut his earnings estimates for all the entertainment companies he tracks through 2022, slashing his price target for Disney from $159 to $101 and for ViacomCBS from $25 to $17.

Widespread layoffs are expected in an industry that had expanded to meet the demands of the streaming content bubble, with agencies including Endeavor and Paradigm already cutting staff and with UTA slashing employee salaries. The question for many in entertainment is how permanent these changes will be — will the industry rebound once the pandemic has passed and come to resemble its former self or will this crisis cement a new normal in Hollywood?

When Universal executives called Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum to discuss plans to make The Invisible Man available for home rental just three weeks into its theatrical run, along with another Blumhouse movie in theaters, The Hunt, “I was supportive of their decision,” Blum says. “It was a very tough decision. In a time of crisis … you have to look forward. You have to adapt.”

Why Do Some Christians Believe Coronavirus is Part of a Biblical Apocalyptic Prophecy?

Devout Christians have taken to social media in light of the coronavirus outbreak to show the eerie similarities between current events and the prophecy of the end of the world presented in the New Testament in the Book of Revelation.

The book describes a series of catastrophic events which will ravage the world, some perpetrated by the titular Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Though the roles of these riders have multiple interpretations, they are often recognized as: War, Plague, Famine and Death.

Similarities between these descriptions and current events appear too similar for some to disregard, and they have taken to social media to declare that we are living at the end of days.

“Those who know nothing of the New Testament or about Armageddon might think this is the end of days, but it really isn’t,” Jeff Keenley, a theology expert, told Mako.

If COVID-19 Pandemic Overwhelms Hospitals, Could Older and Disabled Americans be Left Out?

WASHINGTON – Word is getting around, at least in Washington state, that some officials and medical personnel are considering how to ration live-saving care among coronavirus patients if that population should swell and overwhelm hospitals. This has some among the aged and disabled worried that in such a dire situation, they may be discriminated against and maybe even left to die.

Charles Camosy, a bioethicist professor at Fordham University in New York and some prominent allies are trying to prevent that happening.

Life-and-Death Matter

He told CBN News he’s concerned by what he’s heard is coming out on this life-and-death matter in Washington state, where the Seattle area was particularly hard-hit by the virus after a man brought the disease back to the US from China.

“Washington state actually has an approved protocol that not only is going to consider age, but things like ability, physical ability, cognitive ability,” Camosy said.  He finds labels like that “quite disturbing.”

Does the professor fear those kinds of guidelines could spread across the nation in a worst-case scenario involving the virus, and that older or more disabled people could face deadly discrimination if they’re struck hard by COVID-19?

Camosy says it’s a matter that’s up in the air, but he expects quite the debate in the coming days. Because these guidelines could lead to rationing varying widely from state to state.

For instance, in New York state, Camosy says it has a medical protocol that says specifically no focus on age or ability should be considered.

Discriminating by Age or Disability ‘Would be a Violation of Civil Rights’

“And it explicitly says something that is quite true: that this would be a violation of civil rights of people who are older and people who are disabled,” Camosy noted.

He points out Washington state’s and New York’s medical guidelines are so different on rationing health care and that’s why this is a matter that’s both unsettling and so unsettled.

FOR CBN NEWS CONTINUING COVERAGE ON COVID-19, CLICK HERE.

“It may come to HHS – the Health and Human Services Office of the federal government — or even courts deciding what we ought to do,” the professor predicted.

Camosy along with Princeton professor Robert George, who served on the President’s Council on Bioethics, and Harvard lecturer Jacqueline Rivers asked two prominent legal groups specializing in rights to weigh in with the states to warn them against discriminating if rationing becomes necessary.

Unthinkable, Untenable, ‘Devaluation of Each & Every Human Life’

Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society, said, “We’re reading the unthinkable. The Seattle Times reported that Washington state and hospital officials have been meeting to consider how to decide who lives and dies.”

“The horrific idea of withholding care from someone because they are elderly or disabled is untenable and represents a giant step in the devaluation of each and every human life in America,” he warned.

Camosy summed up what these legal groups wrote the states, paraphrasing, “We really haven’t tested this principle in a pandemic for a very long time, but you’re still not allowed to violate someone’s civil rights, even in a pandemic.”

‘Will We Preserve Our Humanity?’

“Unless we have a miracle drug that shows up at the last minute, we’re going to be rationing health care. The question is will we preserve our humanity in the process? Will we follow the very basic values and ethical principles that we hold dear?,” Camosy asked.

One additional fear he has is that doctors will likely be the ones making many of those life-and-death decisions if the virus overwhelms medical systems.

“I know very many good doctors, good-hearted Christian doctors, as well as good-hearted non-Christian doctors,” the bioethicist stressed. “But in the general and in the main, doctors are some of the worst people we’d want making quality-of-life judgments.”

He says that’s because they so often guess exactly wrong about what their patients want, like believing they’d usually pick living a shorter life if it meant they’d have a higher quality of life.

“In fact the opposite is true. Patients would rather have a longer life compared to a greater quality of life in a shorter time,” Camosy explained. “So, maybe we ought to start thinking about these things, but maybe doctors ought not to be the people in the front lines making those decisions.”

Churches Find Innovative Ways to Serve Their Communities during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Churches Find Innovative Ways to Serve Their Communities during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Lost amidst the bad news of the pain caused by the Coronavirus pandemic are the myriad of ways churches have been serving their communities.

According to Christianity Today, across the United States, churches have come up with simple, yet creative methods of serving their neighbors.

In order to highlight this trend, Ed Stetzer, the Billy Graham Chair of Church, Mission, and Evangelism at Wheaton College, asked pastors and church members to share what their churches had been doing. The responses provide one small window into the work churches have been doing to serve through this crisis.

Some churches have been giving out food to their communities. A member of a Green Bay, WI church said their church had purchased hundreds of boxes of cereal and handed them out to families as they drove through local schools to pick up meals for their children. Also, Pastor Derwin Gray of Transformation Church in Charlotte shared that his church has committed to providing food boxes for 325 families.

Other churches have looked for ways to serve the elderly and immunocompromised. One church in Dallas has called everyone in their church over 70 and written down their grocery list. Then, they order the groceries and hand-deliver them so they never have to leave their homes. A church in Birmingham has been doing something similar, as they have been delivering groceries to the elderly and…

Evangelist and Pastor Andrew Hamilton Informed BCNN1 That Pastor Kenny Baldwin of Crossroads Baptist Church in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia, and Son of Popular Pastor Lou Baldwin, Has Been Diagnosed With the Coronavirus – Pray for the Family

Evangelist and pastor Andrew Hamilton contacted Black Christian News Network One (BCNN1.com) to inform us that pastor Kenny Baldwin of Crossroads Baptist Church in Baileys Crossroads in Fairfax County has been diagnosed with the coronavirus. Members of the church were advised to self-quarantine at home for 14 days. The Fairfax County Health Department said he became ill with respiratory symptoms on March 12 while traveling out of state. Pray for the family and the church.

Baptist Pastor Contracts COVID-19, Church Attacks Media

After the pastor of a black Baptist church in Virginia tested positive for COVID-19, the church attacked local media for reporting on his case and how he may have put others in the community at risk. The pastor joins a number of clergy members across the country struck by the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus, including the Episcopal rector at Christ Church Georgetown in Washington, D.C., two Catholic priests in Brooklyn, New York, and an Episcopal rector (who is the sister of actor Matthew Broderick) in Beverly Hills, California.

As of March 21, more than 307,000 people globally have been infected, and more than 13,000 have died. The United States, the country with the third-highest number of infected persons, has more than 26,000 who have tested positive and 340 dead.

On Thursday (March 19), Crossroads Baptist Church in Bailey’s Crossroads, a Virginia suburb in the Washington, D.C. area, posted on its website that its senior pastor, Kenny Baldwin, was in the hospital being treated for pneumonia. They urged prayers for his recovery as “as doctors fully diagnose him and determine the best course of treatment.” The next day, the church posted an update explaining that while Baldwin was doing better, he had tested positive for COVID-19.

“The doctors suspected this from the time he was admitted, but we obviously had to await confirmation,” the church’s statement added. “They have treated him for the last couple of days with that possibility in mind, and they believe he has endured the worst and is on the upswing. By God’s grace we are navigating this situation.”

The church provided visitor card information and video surveillance to help the Fairfax County Health Department contact individuals who attended the service, recommending the attendees self-quarantine for 14 days to prevent the spread of the virus in the community. The church had previously canceled all upcoming in-person church services.

After a local NBC affiliate reported March 20 on Baldwin’s status, the church posted a lengthy update on their website the next day attacking the station for “incorrect statements” and encouraging church members to contact the station with complaints about the story by reporter Shomari Stone.

The church’s Facebook page included a link to their online statement, but also added on March 21 about the news report: “Satan is busy, but we are not ignorant of his ways.”

The first complaint listed on the church’s website was that the anchor introducing the segment said members who attended the March 15 service needed “self-quarantine until the end of the month” when the actual date is March 29 (the date the reporter said later in the actual segment). The church’s statement argued that saying “the end of the month” is off by two days and “creates a more ominous and newsworthy statement.”

The church also complained the reporter implied “our pastor conducted services on Sunday with a suspicion of being ill.” Yet, the church’s statement calling the report “untrue” actually noted Baldwin went to a local clinic two days before the service with a fever, headache, and sore throat while in North Carolina. They claim a doctor told him his “symptoms were not consistent with COVID-19” so he continued with his preaching as he was “feeling well and being asymptomatic” on Sunday.

The church particularly criticized the reporter for noting that the Thursday before the March 15 service Virginia Governor Ralph Northam “declared a state of emergency and advised all Virginians to avoid large gatherings.” Northam did make that declaration, and the next day closed all public schools in the state.

Pastor Kenny Baldwin of Crossroads Baptist Church in Bailey’s Crossroads has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

He became ill with respiratory symptoms on March 12 while traveling out of state, the Fairfax County Health Department states, and is currently hospitalized. Baldwin is in his 40s.

Crossroads Baptist Church reported on Friday evening that doctors informed Baldwin his X-rays look good and he is improving.

He was initially treated for pneumonia after he was admitted to the hospital. Doctors suspected he had COVID-19, and that was confirmed March 20.

“By God’s grace we are navigating this situation as a church family. More important than anything is his recovery, the well-being of his wife and family, and our church family,” Crossroads Baptist Church states.

Some services and activities at Crossroads Baptist were cancelled on March 15 and all activities were cancelled on March 17. Services are being live-streamed.

The Fairfax County Health Department is conducting a contact investigation and is notifying everyone who attended the church’s morning service on March 15 that they should self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

Quarantining at home means not going to work or school and not attending public gatherings, or using public transportation or ride-sharing, the department states. While at home, contact with other family members should be limited. For anyone who attended the March 15 service and was infected with COVID-19, symptoms – fever, cough, and difficulty breathing – would likely appear before March 29.
