Future Mary Poppins Film Should Support Gay Rights, Director Says

Future Mary Poppins Film Should Support Gay Rights, Director Says

The director of last year’s family film Mary Poppins Returnis hoping for a gay rights theme in a future film – if one is made.

Rob Marshall, who is gay, directed the 2018 Disney film that grossed $171 million. Disney hasn’t announced if there will be a “Mary Poppins 3,” but Marshall told Advocate.com he’d support it having a gay rights angle. Advocate’s Daniel Reynolds noted that women in the first two films “fight for causes.” In the 2018 film, Jane Banks worked as a union organizer.

“You’re right about that,” Marshall said. “That was a conscious decision to have [Jane in Mary Poppins Returns] follow in the footsteps of her mother. I will say, I never approached it like, Oh, I’m making a film for kids. It’s that great thing that Walt Disney said, ‘Our films aren’t for children. They’re for the child in all of us.’ Which is such a great quote and it’s so true. But this one, I honestly felt was for adults.”

Asked if he saw the “next generation” advocating “for causes like gay rights, LGBTQ rights,” Marshall said he’d back it.

“Wouldn’t that’d be great? Please, Lord. That’s exactly what should be happening,” Marshall responded. “I’m always so aware of that, being a gay man myself. I mean, our movie takes place in the ’30s. But if it were to take place now, that’s exactly what it should be. I understand so deeply what it’s…

Vimeo Takes Down Church’s Videos That Express Biblical Views on Homosexuality

Vimeo Takes Down Church’s Videos That Express Biblical Views on Homosexuality

Video hosting site Vimeo has removed some videos from Oklahoma’s Fairview Baptist Church’s account after the church uploaded videos of its February conference.

The February conference, “God’s Voice,” was a gathering dedicated to “bring(ing) biblical clarity to the recent confusion surrounding the issues of ‘revoiced’ sexuality and ‘LGBTQ+ Christians.”

Vimeo first removed the church’s account and then on March 15, restored the account and many videos, but all videos from the “God’s Voice” conference remained unavailable on the church’s account.

An employee with Vimeo’s “Trust and Safety” department told the church in an email that “Vimeo moderators will generally remove accounts or content” in which uploads:

  • Make derogatory or inflammatory statements about individuals or groups of people

  • Are intended to harm someone’s reputation

  • Have an overall mean-spirited vibe

The email also said the site “forbids” content that promotes Sexual Orientation Change Efforts.

“It appears that your account had a series of live streams promoting these views,” the email said.

Fairview Baptist responded to the email in a public Facebook post, warning other churches to be aware of Vimeo’s policy.

“Christians should be worried,” the post said. “It is only getting worse in America. Churches using Vimeo should be…

Peterborough vicar calls for Fiona Onasanya to go

Fiona Onasanya, the now independent MP for Peterborough, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice after lying about driving a speeding car.

She was expelled from the Labour party and is now facing a six week petition which, if 10% of her constituents physically sign, will trigger a by-election.

Rev Canon Ian Black, vicar of St John’s Parish Church in central Peterborough and Canon of Peterborough Cathedral, told The Times: “It’s time for her to go”

He explained that he thought this because the law had looked at both sides: “She has had more than her day in court and I read the judge’s summing up and he was very clear that she had put her case across and the jury had decided against her. I found the video bizarre.”

Rev Ian was referring to a video Onasanya posted on her social media pages in which she says she has always maintained her innocence, asks her constituents why she would risk her career for points on her licence and says she has never had the chance to put across her side of the story.

She has previously linked her fight with the law with that of Jesus and other Biblical characters, saying: “I am in good biblical company along with Joseph, Moses, Daniel and his three Hebrew friends who were each found guilty by the courts of their day.”

Rev Ian said: “She is a person of faith and she had…

College Football Player Thanks God He’s Alive after Collapsing, Having Several Strokes

College Football Player Thanks God He’s Alive after Collapsing, Having Several Strokes

After collapsing from a serious brain injury last September, doctors did not believe college football player Christion Abercrombie would survive. Now the athlete is praising God that he is alive.

According to WSB-TV 2, Abercrombie – a former middle linebacker for Tennessee State University – collapsed during a game against Vanderbilt, from what he thought was an excruciating headache.

The student-athlete was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined that he had suffered several strokes and was suffering from a severe brain injury. CBN News reports that doctors did not expect him to make it through the night.

Upon hearing this news, athletes from both TSU and Vanderbilt decided to huddle together at the 50-yard-line and pray for their teammate and friend.

The moment was captured and posted to Twitter by Jeremy Buchanan. The photo was captioned, “Vanderbilt and Tennessee State met at the 50 yard line after the game to pray for injured player Christian Abercrombie.”

Abercrombie’s parents also prayed for their son that night as they stayed by his side. Staci Abercrombie,…

Christian charity urges Christians to pray in aftermath of cyclone

More than 350 people are dead after mass destruction in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

At least 4-hundred thousand people have been left homeless.

Large parts of Mozambique were hardest hit and heavy rains caused landslides and flash floods in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Tearfund’s country director for Malawi, Vincent Moyo told Premier:

“Pray that no more rains, which are destructive, will come. But also pray that people come in to respond and embrace the people who have been grieved, those who have lost their loved ones.”

Cyclone Idai made landfall in the port city of Beira on Thursday 14th March with wind speeds of up to 106 mph and has wreaked havoc across the region destroying homes and devastating crops, infrastructure and livelihoods.

The full extent of the damage is still unknown. Predictions suggest that the death toll may reach as many as 1,000 in Mozambique alone, with thousands more displaced and left homeless.

Vincent Moyo told Premier: “The situation is very devastating, so depressing – you see women and children who have lost their homes, their property, their crops and they have no food and they are destitute.

“The immediate needs – you’re talking of food because they have lost all their food, but also safe drinking water just because of the floods, due to the cyclone. the wells have been contaminated.”

Earnest Maswera, Tearfund’s Country Director in…

Evangelical Leaders Meet with, Pray over Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro

Evangelical leaders from the U.S. met with Brazil’s new President Jari Bolsonaro – an outspoken Christian – on Tuesday to talk about the future of his country.

. Magazine reports that in the meeting – which was set up by the Christian Broadcasting Network– Bolsonaro shared that he wants to move Brazil away from liberal “left-wing leaning” politics and toward more conservative policies.

Christian charity urges people to spot signs of trafficking as figures show rise of slavery in UK

The National Crime Agency (NCA) found that the number of potential victims of trafficking and modern slavery reported to the authorities has risen by more than 80 per cent in two years.

There were more than 1,400 cases of modern slavery involving UK minors last year alone.

Euan Fraiser from Christian human rights organisation International Justice Mission told Premier that people need to make sure they are able to spot who needs help.

Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, he said: “It’s great for people to be educated in terms of what the possible signs of trafficking are so that if there are potential situations which make you feel a bit uncomfortable, whether that be in terms of, you know, a car wash you’re visiting, or somewhere else where you’re working, or a restaurant where you’re visiting, you know what to do.

“You can always report any suspicions to the modern slavery helpline. And you can also look to engage others in your community on this issue.”

The number of modern slavery cases involving UK children rose from 676 in 2017 to 1,421 in 2018.

Meanwhile, child exploitation by county lines gangs has been thrown into the spotlight in recent trials.

In January, drug dealer Jerome Wallis, 20, who forced a London teenager to travel to Swansea to deal heroin and crack cocaine, was jailed for eight years.

Another case…

People of Faith Are the Answer to Addressing Climate Change, Al Gore Says

People of Faith Are the Answer to Addressing Climate Change, Al Gore Says

From the roaring applause of the room and the familiar voice of a past presidential candidate, one would have thought they were in a campaign rally.

As former Presidential candidate and the 42nd Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, stood on stage in front of thousands of people, it was clear that he was in his element.

Last week, 2,000 people gathered in Atlanta, Georgia to receive training from Gore through the Interfaith Climate Reality Project. This was the organization’s first Interfaith climate reality training.

Since 2006, Gore has been on a mission to train as many people as he can on what he calls “the number one danger that we are facing today,” climate crisis. Many in the evangelical community struggle with this assertion, putting Gore at odds with some mainline evangelicals.

A 2015 Pew Research Poll found that only 28 percent of white evangelicals believed that the Earth was getting warmer as a result of human activity. This was by far the lowest percentage of any religious demographic in the survey.

While this may be the case, during a round table event with reporters, Gore noted that he welcomes other point of views from the evangelical community and would welcome mainline evangelicals to come to the table.

Since the Interfaith Climate Reality Project’s inception, Gore has trained more than 19,000 people.

Christian B&B owner forced to serve LGBT couples after US Supreme Court rejects appeal

Phyllis Young, the owner of Aloha Bed & Breakfast in Honolulu, Hawaii, refused to offer a room in her home to Diane Cervili and Taeko Bufford in 2007 due to her religious beliefs about marriage.

Cervili and Bufford sued Young over her actions and accused her of discriminating against them because of their sexuality.

A lower court had ruled that Young should have served the lesbian couple despite it being a violation of her religious beliefs.

Alliance Defending Freedom represented Young and argued that because she “only rented 1-3 rooms in her personal home she did not fall under the Hawaii public accommodations law that makes sexual-orientation discrimination unlawful.”

However, a state court found Young in violation of Hawaii’s Civil Rights Commissions’ public accommodation law. That law applies to hospitality, entertainment, and transportation services and makes it “illegal to deny a person access to or to treat them unequally in a place of public accommodation” because of a person’s religion, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.

On Monday, the US Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from the Christian bed and breakfast owner, thus upholding the lower court’s ruling in favour of the lesbian couple.

Litigation will continue to determine what penalty the Christian business owner must face.

Soldier of the Vine – a song by Daniel J. Rocca

SOLDIER OF THE VINE is a Christian song about Jesus written by Daniel J. Rocca. The song asks… do you know Jesus? It asks… do you know His name?

This is a beautiful Christian song about the Lord Jesus Christ (the Son of God and Savior of the world). It’s a Christian worship song that asks… if Jesus saw you, would He proclaim …that you’re one of His? This is an inspirational song.

According to Daniel, Soldier of the Vine is a song that makes you ask yourself… does Jesus know you? This song drives home the importance of knowing Jesus. 17 scriptures are highlighted and beautiful creation imagery is used (throughout this beautiful Christian music video) to impact and inspire both the believer and non-believer (images of places where Jesus may have actually walked are also included). Daniel believes that this song was a gift from God …and he is willing to present it as a gift to everyone.
