Topic: Officer Miglio’s Heart [Our Daily Bread 1 September 2018 Devotional]

Back at the police station, Officer Miglio slumped wearily against a wall. A domestic violence call had just consumed half his shift. Its aftermath left a boyfriend in custody, a young daughter in the emergency room, and a shaken mother wondering how it had come to this. This call would wear on the young officer for a long time.

“Nothing you could do, Vic,” said his sergeant sympathetically. But the words rang hollow. Some police officers seem able to leave their work at work. Not Vic Miglio. Not the tough cases like this one.

Officer Miglio’s heart reflects the compassion of Jesus. Christ’s disciples had just come to Him with a question: “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (Matthew 18:1). Calling a small child to Him, He told His disciples, “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (v. 3). Then He gave a stern warning to anyone who would harm a child (v. 6). In fact, children are so special to Him that Jesus told us, “Their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven” (v. 10).

How comforting, then, that Jesus’s love for children is connected to His love for us all! That’s why He invites us, through childlike faith, to become His sons and daughters.

Prayer: Remind us always, Lord, to love children as You love them, even as we come to You with the trusting faith of a small child.

Our earthly families may fail us, but our heavenly Father never will.

Topic: The Blessings of Abraham Are All Yours [TREM 1 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:14 (KJV)

When God looks down from heaven, He sees three categories of people: Jews, Gentiles and the Church. That is why when you read the bible, always know that there are things He said to the Jews, which are not meant for us. However, we can benefit from them. They are written for us to benefit from, but were not really addressed to us. For instance, if I am advising someone and you happen to be around listening, you can receive benefit from the advice. There are things God wrote to the Jews that do not address the Gentiles. You are not a Jew. You were a Gentile, who has now become part of the Church, since you received Christ. Therefore, you should live your life in the epistles in order to discover, understand and appropriate your benefits in Christ.

There are things God wrote to the church. We are the church – the new creation. God deals with the Church on a different level and it is called the “Grace Level”. This means that God deals with His church entirely under grace. However, we still fall short from time to time, why doesn’t God punish us? Because He has punished Jesus already for it all. If He did, it will contravene the “Law of Double Jeopardy”, and God is a just God. That is the reason Christ became a curse for us that the blessing of Abraham may come upon the Gentiles through Him that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

What are the blessings of Abraham? You will see some of them in Deuteronomy 28. It opens by saying that “if thou shall diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all that is written therein, then these blessings will come”. If you are not careful, you will remove your name from those entitled to the blessing because it says you have to obey. Beloved, it is no more your obedience. Christ has obeyed. Therefore, your part is the blessing. God knew you couldn’t obey. For that purpose He sent Christ to obey so that the blessings will become yours. All things are yours, Hallelujah!

Topic: The Miracle of the Donkey and Colt [Andrew Wommack 1 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

John 12:14-15 “And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.”

Text: John 12:14-15

This is the fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. Notice how specific Zechariah’s prophecy is and how exactly it was fulfilled. Zechariah prophesied Jesus not only riding an ass, but also a colt (unbroken), the foal of an ass. Zechariah also mentioned the people rejoicing greatly and shouting which certainly came to pass on this day.

All four gospels include a triumphal entry, but only Matthew records a donkey with a colt. A simple explanation to a so-called “contradiction” is that Jesus rode the colt while the other donkey went along. No doubt, He rode each animal part of the way.

Not only was it a miracle that Jesus knew about the ass and its colt, but also where they would be. God also worked some kind of miracle in the owner of these animals so that he would be willing to release them. It is possible that the Lord also revealed to this man that Jesus would need his animals.

Perhaps he was just a devoted follower of Jesus who gladly surrendered them when he knew Jesus was the one wanting them. Either way, it was just as much a miracle that the owner was willing to surrender them as it was that Jesus knew exactly where they would be.

Jesus hadn’t been in Jerusalem in quite a while and there is no indication that He had made previous arrangements with anyone there to obtain this ass and its colt. This was nothing less than supernatural knowledge imparted to Jesus through the Holy Spirit. As Jesus did, let God’s gifts flow through you today.

Jesus Himself was the first missionary! He did not sit by passively and let those who happened to be interested in His teaching come to Him. He went out where the sick, the sorrowing, and the sad were, and expounded His message of joy, healing, and salvation. Even at a tender age, He went to the Temple and “taught” the doctors and lawyers who were entrenched in the old traditions. He found His way to the seaside and intruded upon the life of the commonest of laborers, saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Wherever He went He challenged, uprooted, and changed men. And at length they nailed Him to a cross because He had upset their selfish, secure, smug way of life. Not only was Jesus a missionary, but He pledged His followers to be missionaries, too!

Prayer for the day: Wherever I go, it is a mission field for You, Lord. Help me to be conscious of this, so that I may tell others the joyous message.

Topic: Behold The Comforter [DCLM Daily Manna 1 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: John 16:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you” (John 16:7).

MESSAGE:

There is no other time that we seriously need the Comforter than in this present age. Christ, who knows the end right from the beginning, has promised believers of all ages the ministry of the Holy Spirit also known as the Comforter.

The Holy Spirit is the third Person in the divine Trinity sent by both the Father and the Son to the world. The text for today reveals how Christ spoke of the need for the Comforter.

Jesus Christ was very compassionate with His followers as He warned and foretold what would befall them by the time He ascends to heaven. It is normal for believers to be unjustly maltreated, persecuted, excommunicated and even killed for their faith. When the Comforter comes, He will enable Christ to help us without any limitation. The Holy Spirit will convince sinners and call them to repentance. He will show the standard of God’s righteousness to everyone who believes.
Christ’s death on the cross connects us to the Father who forgives and makes us righteous. We experience God’s riches and grace through salvation, entire sanctification and Spirit baptism. Thereafter, the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, helps us to discern right from wrong while we patiently learn from Him and receive the power and enduement to undertake the great commission.

Whatever the trouble, persecution, difficulty, problem, calamity, sickness, disease, displacement or deprivation we may be facing presently, the great Comforter is here to help us pass through all these with joy and gladness. The Holy Ghost is available to all sanctified believers today. Reach out to Him in faith and be immersed.

Thought For The Day: The Holy Spirit is the believer’s Companion and Comforter through earthly sojourn.
