Open Heavens 19 August 2018 Sunday MESSAGE:

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:18

The above verse of scripture states God’s views on sexual immorality, which should be taken very seriously by every wise person. The only institution in which God permits sexual relationships is marriage. For this reason, the Holy Spirit says in Hebrews 13:4:

“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

To the Almighty God who created it, marriage is honourable. Today’s Bible reading enjoins us to gratefully enjoy sexual relations as one of the benefits of holy matrimony. We must however be content to enjoy sexual relations with marriage only. It is an act of ingratitude, insatiability and greed for a person to go after sexual partners other than his or her spouse. This act grieves God’s heart just as it grieved Him when Adam and Eve abandoned all the other fruits they could have eaten in the garden, only to eat that which was forbidden (Genesis 3:11). It is interesting that when God gave Eve to Adam, He gave her to him completely and wholeheartedly. We can imagine a marriage ceremony in which God walks Eve down the aisle and hands her over to Adam “to have, to hold, to cherish and to enjoy.” God’s desire is for spouses to enjoy each other, which is why Proverbs 5:19 says:

“Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.”

What a generous, loving and pleasant Father we have in God, who has blessed us with all things to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17). In as much as He has given us all things to enjoy, we must enjoy them with the boundaries He has set in His word. Having been good to you by giving you that sweet spouse, He is posing this question in Proverbs 5:20 to you as food for thought:

“And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?”

The stranger here is that extramarital sex partner. Beloved, don’t be an ingrate; the consequences will be grievous for you. Hold tight to the partner God has blessed you with and enjoy him or her only.

Father, I thank You for giving me the privilege of marriage. Please help me to keep my marriage holy as You designed it to be, in Jesus’ Name.

INTRODUCTION:
The scriptures say do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain. It also says the labourer is worthy of his reward. So, God has a reward for all that make it to the kingdom. We shall one day cross to the other side where we shall have exceeding and eternal weight of glory (2Corinth 4:17; Ps. 37:34; Ps. 91:8).

TYPES OF REWARD
Jesus Christ has prepared crowns for rulers in His coming kingdom. These crowns and their qualifications are:
1. The crown of life (Jam 1:2). The qualification for this is that you must have endured temptation and remained faithful. Other qualifications include overcoming evil, loving the Lord and faithful unto death (Rev. 2:10).
2. The incorruptible crown (1Corin 9:24-25). This is for those who patiently run the race to Heaven and who are temperate in all things.
3. The crown of rejoicing (1Thess. 2:19). You must be a soul winner to receive this crown.
4. The crown of glory (1Pet. 5:4). A crown for true pastors, missionaries and teachers.
5. The crown of righteousness (2Tim. 4:8). It is for those expecting the Lord. They are earnestly waiting for His coming.

OTHER TYPES OF REWARD
Apart from crowns and leadership positions in His kingdom as kings and priests, the believer will also be privileged to:
1. Reign with Christ (Rom. 8:17-18).
2. Behold His face (Ps 17:15; Rev. 22:4).
3. Inherit all things (Rev. 21:7).
4. Shine as a star (Dan.12:3).
5. Be a pillar in the temple of God (Rev. 3:12).
6. Have access to the tree of life (Rev. 22:1-5; 22:14
7. Be glorified with Christ (Gal. 4:7).

CONCLUSION:
Knowing full well that we have this wonderful rewards in serving God, what manner of people should we be? (1 John. 3:2-3).

MESSAGE:

As a teenager, you must learn to appreciate the good things that you see in your parents. There is a spiritual law known as the law of transformation. It simply says that whatever you admire is what you will likely become. If you like something, you will devote more of your time to it, and after a while, it will begin to influence you. What are your likes and dislikes? If you like the wrong things, you will end up doing them. When you appreciate certain good qualities in the life of your parents and spiritual leaders, in the long run you will start to exhibit those qualities.

As a teenager, when you look at your parents, there are many good qualities which they possess that you should covet too. If your father is a very cool tempered man who doesn’t shout at his wife, you should learn to be cool tempered and patient too. If you see that your dad spends considerable time praying and reading his Bible, imbibe this too and get closer to God. Let the good qualities you see around be reflected in your life, and you can be sure that your future will be bright. God bless you!

Thought For The Day: The quality of your association determines the quality of people you can access.

The importance of quality association to destiny cannot be overemphasized. Association produces influence, positive or negative which affects our outcome in life. Many great destinies have been ruined because of wrong association. It is important to know that if you must be successful, you have to associate with the right people who can directly or indirectly assist in the fulfilment of your destiny.

Now, I will like you to take note of the following about association:
i) Company determines mind-set and mind-set affects destiny
The way you think is influenced by your association. Your association determines your thought pattern which in turn affects your action and eventual outcome in life.

ii) Company affects character and character determines destiny
Your character can change because of the company you keep. Some people have become ungodly and would no longer have the feeling of guilt because a wrong company came into their lives.

iii) Company supplies counsel
Your company determines the quality of counsel you can access. Wrong counsel equals wrong destiny and the correct counsel equals the correct destiny.

iv) Company determines motivation
Your association determines your motivation in life. Some friends can increase your fire and encouragement while others can discourage you from doing what you are meant to do. The right association can be your motivation and the wrong association can be your demotivation.

v) Your company determines your contact
The quality of people around your life determines the quality of people you can access. Wrong and inconsequential people will connect you with inconsequential contacts.

My counsel is, avoid the wrong company and embrace the right association.

Remember this: The quality of your association determines the quality of people you can access.

Prayer: O Lord, show me the right company that will influence my life positively. I receive the grace to reject every wrong association, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: What You Hear Affects You [DCLM Daily Manna 18th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: 1 Samuel 21:10-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath. And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard” (1 SAMUEL 21:12,13).

MESSAGE:

Some time ago, a woman went to a doctor to check up what was wrong with her. During the diagnosis, the doctor described the ailment using an uncommon medical term. Obviously, she was ignorant of what the term meant and became hypertensive. Her condition grew worse from other complications and within a short time, she died. On examination, other medical experts discovered that the original ailment was one that could have been treated. Most medical terms are in Latin or Greek. For instance, a Latin name for headache in medicine is “cephalalgia”. Now, the woman died of what she heard and thought was a serious disease.

What we hear affects us greatly. What David heard and laid in his heart made him play a mad man. This was David who killed the warlord of the Philistines with just a sling and great faith in the God of Israel. But on this occasion, he was paralysed by the statements of mere servants. Words are like softwares; they run the entire system of man.

Our faith vanishes when we allow fear to becloud our heart. Fear starts with self-talk. David said to himself, “I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul” (1 Samuel 27:1). This led him to flee to the land of the Philistines. Whenever fear motivates, even great people become feeble. Like David, Elijah fled for his life because he heard the threatenings of Jezebel.

As you go out today, watch what you hear. Guide and guard your heart with the brazen coat of God’s word and don’t allow fear to influence you in any way. No one can stop a man who has a programme with God.

He looked down from His holy height. Psalm 102:19 nasb

While in London, a friend arranged for my wife Marlene and me to visit the Sky Garden. On the top floor of a thirty-five-story building in London’s business district, the Sky Garden is a glass-encased platform filled with plants, trees, and flowers. But the sky part captured our attention. We gazed down from a height of over 500 feet, admiring St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and more. Our views of the capital city were breathtaking—providing a helpful lesson on perspective.

Our God has a perfect perspective of everything we experience. The psalmist wrote, “For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death” (Psalm 102:19–20 nasb).

Like the hurting people pictured in Psalm 102, we are often locked into the present with its struggles, “groaning” with despair. But God sees our lives from beginning to end. Our Lord is never caught off guard by the things that can blindside us. As the psalmist anticipated, His perfect perspective will lead to an ultimate rescue that sets free even those “doomed to death” (vv. 20, 27–28).

In difficult moments, remember: We may not know what is coming next, but our Lord does. We can trust Him with every moment that stretches before us.

Topic: Get Out From Under [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland 18 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – 1 John 4:4

Under the circumstances…. Have you ever caught yourself using that phrase?

“I suppose I’m doing pretty well under the circumstances.”

If you’ve ever said something like that, I want you to kick those words out of your vocabulary right now. Because you, as a victorious child of God, don’t have any business living your life “under” your circumstances. You don’t have any business letting problems and situations rule over you.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus—the One who is in you—ransacked Satan’s kingdom. Through His death at Calvary, He legally entered the regions of the damned and stripped Satan of everything. He took away all his armor. He took the keys to death and hell. He bound that strong man, looted his kingdom, and Colossians says He spoiled principalities and powers and made a show of them openly, triumphing over them.

Then Jesus turned around and gave that victory to you. You are of God. Remember that! You have overcome through Jesus because He lives in you. You never have to live “under” the circumstances again!

Topic: Let Down Your Net [TREM 18 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

“Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” Luke 5:4

According to the account in the book of Luke chapter 5, Peter never caught a fish. He toiled all night but caught nothing. He went fishing at the right time, with the right tools, with the right materials, and with the right people. He laboured and still caught nothing. And then Jesus the light of the world showed up. He said cast your net into the deep for a draught. In other words, stretch yourself because what is coming is a load. Peter replying said, “but I didn’t catch anything, I laboured not even one fish”. Jesus said let down your nets!

Beloved this is the time for you to let down your net into the deep. Don’t try to set the normal goals that you set because if you can meet the goals you don’t need God. When you set goals that are bigger than you, you are saying to God: you are the one I am looking up to. I believe you for the impossible. Peter let down one net and the bible said he caught a net breaking and boat sinking load of fish. Remember it was out of the same place he had failed earlier. They may have told you that you will go home empty, but Jesus says you will not go empty. They said your business is closing but Jesus is saying that because of your encounter with me you are starting a new business. It is not about you but all about Jesus. He has the final say.

As you launch into the deep, your heaven will never be shut. Your ground will always produce. Anywhere you go, expect only the best. Anywhere you find yourself in life, expect that place to work for you. I call you blessed. You are blessed going out and blessed coming in. You are blessed in your basket. You are blessed in your storehouse and you are blessed in your body. The blessing of God comes over you and overtakes you in Jesus name.

Topic: Divorce Is Not God’s Best [Andrew Wommack 18th August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Mark 10:2 “And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.”

Text: Mark 10:2-6

The Pharisees didn’t really want to know what Jesus taught on divorce and remarriage. They didn’t value His opinion but were tempting Him and desired to get Him mired in the big dispute of their day between liberal and conservative views on divorce. This was a very emotional issue then, just as it is today, and they thought they had Jesus in a “no win” situation.

However, as always, Jesus proved to be more than their match and He gave them much more than they asked for.

The Pharisees didn’t question whether or not divorce was right. They took the right to divorce for granted. But Jesus, instead of expounding on acceptable grounds for divorce, went to the very root of the problem and showed that God never intended there to be any divorce at all. If they really understood the extent of the one flesh covenant between a man and his wife, they would not be looking for an excuse to get out of marriage. This approach amazed the Pharisees and brough forth the question “why did Moses in the law make provision for divorce?”

Once a person begins to question, “How can I get a divorce?” instead of, “How can I keep this marriage together?” indicates, that there is already a serious breach in the marriage, that Jesus calls a hardened heart.

Jesus answered that divorce was permitted but never intended. God allowed something that He hated because of the hardness of people’s hearts. This was also true of polygamy and slavery. Jesus came to remove our stony heart and give us a heart of flesh so that we could walk in God’s best for us.

Many young people are building their lives on the rock of materialism. I find across the country a deep economic discontent among people in every walk of life. People want more and more things. They forget that we are enjoying the highest standard of living the world has ever known. We still have poverty, and hundreds of agencies are trying to do something about it; but we are dissatisfied. We want more, more, more. But Jesus said, “You cannot serve God and money.” He said that a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things that he possesses. Adolf Berle, in his study of power, points out that riches often make people solitary and lonely and, of course, afraid. Many times a rich man knows loneliness and fear, because when he makes wealth his god, it leaves him empty. You see, without God life loses its zest and purpose and meaning.

Prayer for the day: Knowing You, my heavenly Father, brings richness to my life and soul.
