The Telegraph reports that Belgium has authorized and completed the euthanasia of three children ages nine, 11, and 17. 

According to The Telegraph these deaths took place in 2016 and 2017 via lethal injection and have just recently come to light because of the release of a report from the CFCEE; the commission that regulates euthanasia in Belgium. 

Belgium is the only country in the world that offers euthanasia as an option for children dealing with terminal illnesses that cause, what the CFCEE deems, “unbearable suffering.” 

According to The Telegraph, in 2014 Belgium amended its euthanasia law to make it legal for doctors to terminate the life of a child no matter how young the requestor. The only requirements are that the patient must be judged to have the mental capacity to make the weighty decision and that their parents’ consent. 

The report that was released by the CFCEE on July 17, reportedly notes that thousands of people along with the three youth died from euthanasia between January 2016 and December 2017 in Belgium.

Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church was given a proclamation by the mayor of Houston Tuesday for their humanitarian and relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Mayor Sylvester Turner declared Tuesday, Aug. 14, as “Lakewood Church Day” to recognized one of America’s largest megachurches for raising over $5 million in recovery efforts and helping over 1,150 Houston-area families return to their homes following the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey that damaged much of southeast Texas in August 2017.

In a ceremony held during a city council meeting Tuesday, Osteen and his wife, Victoria, were presented with the proclamation, which was granted at the request of council member Jack Christie.

Although Osteen received some backlash on social media last year after it was reported that Lakewood Church was not initially housing evacuees after the floods, the proclamation recognizes that the church and its members have provided “selfless contributions” and “active involvement during Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.”

A handful of schools in the Kansas City area have abandoned the traditional bathroom design and will offer students gender-neutral restrooms this school year, with boys and girls using stalls adjacent to one another.  

The wall outside the restroom features boys and girls symbols, according to The Kansas City Star. It is being offered at two new elementary schools and at renovated restrooms at a high school.

“I think it is great,” Melanie Austin, a parent of a first-grade girl, told the newspaper. “You just don’t know what gender a kid might identify as. This helps everyone to feel comfortable, accepted.”

The inside of the bathrooms look different than traditional stalls seen at schools, restaurants and stores. Each stall is an individual “room,” with floor-to-ceiling walls and a lockable door. Boys and girls wash their hands at the same sink in a common area, allowing teachers to stand in the common area and monitor students, the newspaper said. 

“Students said they like these restrooms better because they are more private,” Rochel Daniels, executive director of organizational development, told The Star.

The gender-neutral restrooms are featured at Rising Hill Elementary and Northview Elementary and at North Kansas City High School. They’re also opening at the Eastgate and Gateway sixth-grade centers, the newspaper reported.

Sixth-grader Kaden Koebcke received a gift from his Technology teacher that can save his life on Tuesday; a kidney.

According to Fox News, Koebcke’s teacher, William Wilkinson, teaches technology at Grace Christian Academy in Powder Springs, Georgia and has opted to serve as a living donor to his student.  

The 12-year-old was diagnosed with kidney disease when he was only two years old and has already had to have one transplant. The organ for the first surgery came from Koebcke’s father who is the only donor match for Koebcke in his family. Unfortunately, Koebcke’s first kidney transplant, which was performed when he was five years old, did not work. 

According to Fox News, Koebcke recalled that “it came back so badly that they had to remove it within five days of them putting it in.” 

Koebcke continued saying, “that definitely didn’t go as planned.” 

Now without a kidney, Koebcke had to go on dialysis, which he has been on for the last ten year. 

After years of waiting for a new kidney, however, his family decided to take matters into their own hands and find a donor for Koebcke themselves. The family took to Facebook setting up a page called “Kaden’s Kidney Search,” and hoped that someone would be a match.

Batman always has been a dark-and-edgy superhero who fights evil, but in a new comic he’s also someone who has lost his Christian faith.

In the newest comic from DC, Batman #53, the Dark Night/Bruce Wayne is “sequestered for questioning as part of a lawsuit that Mr. Freeze is filing against Batman” when Wayne asks a woman about her cross necklace, according to Inverse.com. That’s when Wayne has a flashback, which reveals he abandoned Christianity as a child.

His father, Thomas Wayne, apparently raised Bruce Wayne as a Christian but the younger Wayne drifted from the faith after his parents were murdered. 

“Do you believe in God?” a woman asks Wayne.

“I used to,” Batman responds. “My father was a Christian. He held hallow the immortal soul, heaven, the Father and the Son. Giving your will to your Lord, trusting Him with that will. He wanted me to believe, too. But he wanted me to come to it on my own. He went to church. He told me all the stories. Talked a lot about what we can control, what we can’t.”

Fox News reports that a grand jury in Pennsylvania has found hundreds of Catholic priests in the state guilty of child molestation dating as far back as the 1940s. 

According to the grand jury report which was released on Tuesday, the jury reviewed around 250 thousand pages of in house church documents which “contained credible allegations against over three hundred predator priests.”

The document went on to say, “over one thousand child victims were identifiable, from the church’s own records. We believe that the real number – of children whose records were lost, or who were afraid ever to come forward – is in the thousands.”

The children who were victim to these heinous acts may have experienced one or more of several different confirmed abusive measures including groping, masturbation, anal, oral and vaginal rape. 

Fox news reports that “one boy was forced to say confession to the priest who sexually abused him.”

The jury offers many accounts of abuse in the report. Among the accounts they include the story of a women named Julianne. Julianne, who is now 68 years old, recalled that she was sexually assaulted by Father Fromholzer in 1964 during a trip to the Poconos.
