Soul Survivor raises more than £1.7m for new building

The founder of the church that Soul Survivor and the Naturally Supernatural festivals grew from led a campaign alongside senior pastor Andy Croft to raise funds to have more space for worshippers.

In a video released before Sunday’s gift day, the co-pastors said the current building in Warehouse 5 felt “claustrophobic” and left newcomers questioning “whether there was room for them”.

Speaking on Sunday morning in the special service which saw the children join in with praise and worship, Pilavachi said the large number of children struggling to fit in the front of the church illustrated why another building is needed.

Attendance of children has increased 20 per cent each year for the last three years, with an average of 150 attending Sunday morning services. According to the website, the church is sometimes forced to turn families away – which are often those that are newcomers.

The plan is to demolish Warehouse 5 and build a new, better designed space that will accommodate a lot more people.

The total estimated cost – including architects’ fees and fitting out the building is £5.1m.

The amazing Church I have the joy of serving have just had our gift day. The total given to the building fund is £1,789,628. All I can say is HALLELUJAH!

Read: Matthew 7:1–6, Bible in a Year: Nehemiah 12–13; Acts 4:23–37

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Matthew 7:1

I’ve been quick to judge anyone I saw walking in the street while staring at a phone. How could they be so oblivious to the cars about to hit them? I’ve told myself. Don’t they care about their own safety? But one day, while crossing the entrance to an alleyway, I was so engrossed in a text message, that I missed seeing a car at my left. Thankfully, the driver saw me and came to an abrupt stop. But I felt ashamed. All of my self-righteous finger-pointing came back to haunt me. I had judged others, only to do the same thing myself.

My hypocrisy is the kind of thinking that Jesus addressed in the Sermon on the Mount: “First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:5). I had a huge “plank”—a blind spot through which I judged others with my own impaired judgment.

“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged,” Jesus also said (7:2). Recalling the disgusted look on the driver’s face that day, after having to make an abrupt stop when I walked in front of the car, I’m reminded of the disgusted looks I gave others engrossed in their phones.

None of us is perfect. But sometimes I forget that in my haste to judge others. We’re all in need of God’s grace.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me be quicker to console or encourage, and slower to judge someone else.

Be slow to judge others.

Seeds of Destiny 19 June 2018 by Pastor Paul Enenche – The Inescapable Judgment

Topic: The Inescapable Judgment [Seeds of Destiny Tuesday June 19, 2018]

Scripture: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Corinthian 5:10

Thought For The Day: God shall bring everyone and every work to judgment.

The Scripture makes it clear that it is appointed unto man once to die and after death, there is judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Many people think that when they die, life has ended; they are not aware that there is life after life. Death is not the end of life but the beginning of eternity – either in heaven or in hell.

So, there is judgement. But the most serious thing is that the judgement is an inescapable one.

Now, I will like you to take note of the following on the nature of this judgement:

1. It is a judgment before a judge who cannot be bribed
It is a judgment before a judge who cannot be bribed or compromised; it is a judgment before the Almighty God who created everything but was never created.

2. It is a judgment where the services of an advocate are not necessary
The service of a lawyer or a witness is not necessary in this inescapable judgement because the judge has every witness at his disposal.

3. It is a judgment after which there is no appeal
It is the final judgement; it cannot be appealed by anyone. For instance, if a person dies in sin, he goes to hell fire.

Some people have said that nobody can tell them how to live their lives; it is true nobody will control how such people live their lives now but someone will demand an account of how they lived their lives later in eternity. God shall bring everyone and every work to judgment.

Beloved, it is important to be aware of this inescapable judgement in order to live right on earth.

Remember this: God shall bring everyone and every work to judgment.

Assignments:

1. Live with the consciousness of the great judgment day.
2. Determine to live a life of purity and uprightness.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask that You give me the consciousness of the inescapable judgment. Let me always live my life with a high sense of accountability, Lord, in Jesus Name.

John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Text: John 8:39-47

All of us were born in sin and were therefore “by nature” the children of the devil. That’s the reason we sinned. Our sins don’t corrupt our nature, but our corrupt nature makes us sin. That’s why we must be “born again” and become new creatures (or a new creation) in Christ.

The scriptures teach that everyone was born with a sin nature or old man. For the Christian, the old man is dead. We do not have a nature that is driving us to sin. If that is the case, then why do we seem so bound to sin even after we experience the new birth? The reason is that our old man left behind what Romans 6:6 calls a body. Just as a person’s spirit and soul leave behind a physical body at death, so our old man left behind habits and strongholds in our thoughts and emotions. The reason a Christian tends to sin is because of an unrenewed mind, not because of a sin nature.

Our old man ruled our thinking before we were born again. He taught us such things as selfishness, hatred, and fear and he placed within us the desire for sin. The old man is now gone, but these negative parts of his body remain. Until renewed, our minds continue to lead us on the course that our old man charted.

To experience the resurrection life of Jesus, we have to know that our old man is dead. Then, through the renewing of our minds, we destroy the body that the old man left behind. The end result is that we will not serve sin any longer.

Supreme Court May Take on Case of Florist Who Refused to Serve Gay Wedding

The Supreme Court may take on a case this week about whether artists can be forced to provide services for same-sex weddings.

Earlier this month, the court ruled on the case involving a Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex marriage. The court ruled in favor of the baker.

Last week, justices meet for a private case to discuss another case involving the rights of artists to provide services based on their religious beliefs.

This case involves a dispute between Arlene’s Flowers, its owner Barronelle Stutzman, and a gay couple, Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed.

The Washington Supreme Court ruled that Stutzman violated the state civil rights law when she refused to make floral arrangements for Ingersoll and Freed’s wedding in 2013.

Stutzman appealed the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court and in July 2017, the justices discussed the case in a private conference, but priority went to the case with the Colorado baker.

In that ruling, the Supreme Court said the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated baker Jack Phillips’ rights because the commission acted with “hostility.” The court, however, did not answer the question whether religious beliefs are a valid reason for rejecting products or services.

Pastor of Newport church that burnt down says they know God works for good

Bethel Community Church was one of the victims of a suspected arson attack at the weekend and met outside on Sunday.

Pastor Andrew Cleverly told Premier: “We are very sad, very emotional. A lot of the congregation just gathered together in the car park opposite and just watched the church burn to the ground for five hours.

“We were stood there, we held hands, we prayed, we actually worshipped if you could believe that because even amongst the sadness there is a tinge of excitement that God has got a bigger plan for us all.”

He added: “That verse from Romans says that all things work together for good for those that trust the Lord and when we say we ‘all’ we mean the good and the bad and so we believe that even what the enemy meant for evil God can turn it to our good and we celebrated and worshipped yesterday with all the community.”

He explained how the police, the mayor and local businesses all turned up in the car park: “There was about 300 people…and the unity was incredible”

“We just feel that God has a plan.”

He explained that although the church is currently now just four walls and that nearly everything inside is gone: “We trust in God that he knows what’s he’s doing”

Have you ever been separated from someone you love? A boyfriend or girlfriend whom you have not seen in three or four months? Wait until you see each other! My wife and I have said goodbyes to each other; but when we met again, it was a honeymoon all over again. And that is what it will be like on that glorious day when Jesus Christ comes. We will be caught up in the air to meet Him, and it will be like two lovers coming together. What hope we have!

Prayer for the day: Lord Jesus, when You come again, how many hearts will rejoice. Until then, with expectant anticipation I eagerly wait for that glorious day!

Megachurch Pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong Church NYC has admitted that due to the way the word is often used in U.S. right-wing circles, he hesitates to call himself an evangelical.

“The term evangelical has been, in my mind, almost hijacked. I’m hesitant to use it, and it’s a shame because evangelical, in its purest sense, is a group of people who believe Jesus is Lord, Jesus is God. But what’s happened is evangelical in America means conservative Christianity. That doesn’t even exist. There’s no such thing as conservative Christianity,” Lentz said in an interview with MSNBC on Sunday.

Lentz went on to clarify that evangelical is supposed to mean a believer who spreads the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and expressed his desire to redefine the way it has been used.

The popular preacher, known as the pastor of celebrities, such as Justin Bieber, said that his fears are that those on the right have molded the word to mean white and conservative.

Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz criticises Jeff Sessions’ use of scripture in immigration debate

In a TV interview with American channel MSNBC, Lentz responded to a question about politician Jeff Sessions using the Bible to justify immigration policy: “it’s embarrassing, to be honest, I think everybody – if you have any compassion – think something’s off with this.”

Last Thursday, the Attorney General referenced Paul’s letter to the Romans in the New Testament to defend a policy which has seen more than 2000 children separated from their parents: “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order,” he said.

Carl Lentz responded to this on a news programme by saying: “When you see politicians, especially using what we call classic misapplication of scripture you just hope you get the opportunity to do this – which is to tell people, in case they are wondering ‘Is this Jesus? Is this Christianity? Is this the Bible?’, you get to say ‘absolutely not’.”

Lentz explained how this was taking Paul’s letter to the Roman church completely out of context: “This is…a politician trying to use the Bible to prove a point that they want.”
