Greek Opposition Leader Urges Lawmakers to Vote Against Government – Urban Christian News

Greece’s main opposition leader urged lawmakers Saturday to support his no-confidence vote against the government over a deal to end a decades-old dispute with neighboring Macedonia over the latter’s name.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ left-led coalition government is expected to survive the vote, set for later Saturday. His government controls 154 of parliament’s 300 seats. The nationalist party that is a junior coalition partner says it will reject the motion despite vehemently opposing the name deal that Tsipras reached with his Macedonian counterpart.

“Today you are all mortgaging the future of the country,” said conservative New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who brought the no-confidence motion.

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who heads the junior coalition partner, the Independent Greeks party, stressed that Saturday’s vote was not on the Macedonia name deal itself, which his party opposes.

“Today we are not voting on the deal,” he said.

Tsipras and Macedonia’s Zoran Zaev settled on a deal Tuesday that would rename Greece’s northern neighbor North Macedonia, while Athens would drop its objections to the country joining NATO and the European Union.

The agreement aimed to end a bitter dispute that has roiled the two countries’ relations since shortly after the small country declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. Greece argued that the name “Macedonia” implied territorial claims on its province of the same name, which is the birthplace of the ancient warrior king Alexander the Great, and usurped its ancient Greek heritage…

UK Government Changes Course, Allows Epileptic Boy to Use Cannabis Oil – Urban Christian News

The British government changed course Saturday in a case concerning cannabis oil, saying an epileptic boy can be treated with it after his mother said he needed it to survive severe seizures.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid said he has agreed to urgently issue a license to allow Billy Caldwell, a 12-year-old from Northern Ireland, to be treated with the oil. He said his decision was based on advice from senior doctors who say that Caldwell, who was hospitalized overnight in London, faces a medical emergency.

Javid said the British government’s immediate priority was to make sure Caldwell receives “the most effective treatment possible in a safe way.”

The case has revived the debate over medical marijuana use in Britain.

Cannabis oil is banned in Britain. Border Force agents seized it from Charlotte Caldwell, the boy’s mother, when she tried to bring it into London’s Heathrow Airport on Monday from Canada, where she obtained it legally.

She said Billy suffered two severe seizures overnight and that the cannabis oil is the only substance that can prevent life-threatening seizures for him. He began the treatment in the United States legally two years ago.

Charlotte Caldwell says the oil has kept Billy seizure-free for more than 300 days.

He became the first person in the U.K. with a prescription for cannabis oil when it was recommended to him by a local doctor in Northern Ireland. But the doctor stopped prescribing cannabis oil after being warned by the Home Office.

After the government agreed to permit the treatment, Charlotte Caldwell said Saturday that she and her supporters…

New cardinal highlights fresh threat of ‘extremist Islam’

Speaking to Catholic charity Aid to Church in Need, Cardinal-designate Désiré Tzarahazana of Toamasina claimed that radical groups are “buying people” for their cause and that plans are in the works to build more than 2,600 mosques in the country.

The rise of Islamism is palpable. You can see it everywhere. It is an invasion, with money from the Gulf States and from Pakistan – they buy people,” he said.

He gave the example of women in northern Madagascar being paid to wear a burka in public in order to advertise the expansion of Islam in the country.

Cardinal-designate Tzarahazana added: “In my own diocese there are mosques being built everywhere… even though there aren’t enough Muslims to use them.

Describing how the radical groups from Pakistan and the Gulf States fund large numbers of foreign Muslims to enter Madagascar, he said: “They are also bringing over Muslims en masse from Turkey. This is a phenomenon that greatly concerns us.

“Once or twice a week, the Turkish Airlines unloads a plane full of Muslims, who then settle in the country… and [they are] not leaving again.”

The Cardinal-designate said young people were receiving incentives from certain religious organisations aboard: “You see young men setting off to study in Saudi Arabia, and when they come back they are imams.

“We…

Cossack Patrols to Display Military Skills in World Cup City – Urban Christian News

A senior official in Russia’s southern Rostov region says Cossack patrols in this World Cup city will “display their military skills” and not replace the role of police.

Deputy regional governor Igor Guskov told reporters Saturday that members of the academy of the self-governing militia would take part in horseback patrols along the Don River, but weren’t strictly given the responsibility of providing security.

Guskov said that “we are all Cossacks here,” adding that a number of public events planned in the city would involve Cossack culture.

Authorities have boosted the police presence before Sunday’s match between Brazil and Switzerland. They are expecting up to 250,000 fans to visit through July 2, when the city hosts the last of its five games.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Sunday, 17 June 2018 – The Goodness In Appreciation

TOPIC: The Goodness In Appreciation (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Sunday, 17 June 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-19

MEMORY VERSE: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. – James 1:17

The MESSAGE:

There is this story of a man and his wife who were having a particular difficult disagreement. After a period of heated exchange of argument, the man literally walked out of the house in a huff, just to get away from the conflict, at least for a breathe. (By the way, it is often a very important strategy of resolving conflicts, to call a temporary time out to let emotions cool off a bit, but that should always be mutually agreed upon; it should not be a unilateral turn-trait and walk out as it was in this particular story). As the man was stomping through the woods close to his house, getting angrier with each stomp, because he was totally consumed by the injustices he felt were being foisted upon him, he suddenly had a “left-field thought” pop into his head –“What was it about your wife that drew you to her in the first place?” As he allowed that train of thought to gather momentum, his anger mysteriously began to disappear, being replaced by gratitude and appreciation for the relationship he and his wife had developed over the years. Within a fairly short time, this man completely lost his anger, totally changed his countenance towards his wife, and was eager to get back home to tell her how much he loved her, appreciated her, and to ask for forgiveness for the part he had played in the heated argument earlier. Since she could see the sincerity in his eyes, she was quick to respond and accept the apology, offered her own apology and the issue moved from one of heated argument to one of mutual agreement. “A bowl of soup with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.”

It is an amazing story which illustrates the ability that we all have to “flip the switch” on our emotions by simply changing what we are thinking about. This whole idea of gratitude and appreciation is vital to any and every relationship. The whole kind of thinking extends far beyond your mate. It extends also to your job or career, to your ministry, to your group, to your possessions, to where you live or to just about anything. You can always find something good to say about anything. Hate your job? Maybe so, but I can tell you that there are some good features about your job. Critically examine that job of yours and you will discover that you have every course to appreciate it and be grateful to God.

You may have to dig deep a little, but I promise you that you will find those two or three good things about it, focus your thoughts on them and it won’t be long before your attitude will change from that of ingratitude to gratefulness. No effort is required. Just focus on the good things and watch the right before your very eyes.

See the good in everything. There’s always something good that comes out of every life experience; every heartache, every tear. May the source of our existence, our heavenly Father, help us to remember to look for the good in those things we are not terribly fond of, and show us how to be good-finders.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A word of appreciation gives succour to our emotions.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your appreciation of someone today will spur you to the next level.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see Your goodness in every person I encounter, in Jesus’ name.
2. Spiritual termites eating me up, catch fire, in the name of Jesus.
3. Seed of ingratitude growing in my life, be uprooted by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. My eyes, receive fire, in the name of Jesus.
5. Powers that do not want me to fulfil destiny, die, in the name of Jesus.
6. Power of my father’s house attacking my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
7. O God my Father, forgive me where I have failed to appreciate You, in Jesus’ name.

Disputed Policies on Migrants Are the Top Threat to EU Unity – Urban Christian News

Forget Brexit or a looming trans-Atlantic trade war. The diplomatic spat this week among Italy, Malta and France over who should take responsibility for some 630 people rescued at sea shows that the biggest challenge Europe faces today is migration.

It’s not about the hundreds of thousands of people who arrived across the Mediterranean in recent years — many in perilous sea crossings like those aboard the rescue ship Aquarius — seeking better or safer lives. Turkey has welcomed more. Tiny Lebanon and struggling Jordan handle almost two million refugees between them.

The crisis threatening the very existence of the European Union is the enemy within: the inability of the 28 states that make up the world’s biggest trading bloc to manage those migrant arrivals collectively.

Asylum reform is stranded on the rocks of national interests. The questions of who should take responsibility for those arriving — and whether there should be a quota system for European countries to share refugees — are fiercely disputed.

Long-suffering EU nations like Italy and Greece, where most sea migrants enter, feel abandoned by other EU nations.

In response, some European countries have deployed troops, erected border fences or temporarily reintroduced ID checks, undermining Europe’s wide-ranging passport-free travel area. Others have welcomed the migrants in.

Those acting alone have mostly angered their neighbors by passing the problem on. Mutual trust between nations in the bloc has evaporated.

Anti-migrant parties have exploited the chaos, winning votes as they foment fear of…

Abortion is the ‘white glove’ equivalent of nazi-era eugenics, says Pope Francis

Francis spoke off-the-cuff to a meeting of an Italian family association, ditching his prepared remarks to speak from the heart about families and the trials they undergo.

He lamented how some couples choose not to have any children, while others resort to pre-natal testing to see if their baby has any malformations or genetic problems.

“The first proposal in such a case is, ‘Do we get rid of it?'” Francis said.

“The murder of children. To have an easy life, they get rid of an innocent.”

Francis recalled that, as a child, he was horrified to hear stories from his teacher about children “thrown from the mountain” if they were born with malformations.

“Today we do the same thing,” he said.

“Last century, the whole world was scandalised by what the Nazis did to purify the race. Today, we do the same thing but with white gloves,” Francis said.

The pope urged families to accept children “as God gives them to us”.

Francis has repeated the strict anti-abortion stance of his predecessors and integrated it into his broader condemnation of what he calls today’s “throw-away culture.”

He has frequently lamented how the sick, the poor, the elderly and the unborn are considered unworthy of protection and dignity by a society that prizes instead individual prowess.

He has also decried how women are often considered part of this “throw-away culture,” sometimes forced to prostitute…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 17 June 2018 Devotional — Receive Mercy

Topic: Receive Mercy [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Sunday June 17, 2018]

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]? — 1 Corinthians 6:19

God is full of mercy and loving-kindness! He is extending His mercy to you right now, but you must believe it and receive it in order for it to bene t you. When we sin, we don’t need to punish ourselves, because Jesus already took our punishment and He now offers us His mercy. Amazing!

Mercy would not be mercy if it could be deserved, because it is said to be kindness that exceeds what could be expected. If you are suffering from guilt, shame, and condemnation, God is reaching out to you now and offering you mercy. Don’t turn away because you know you don’t deserve it. Receive it and let it make you fall more in love with Jesus than ever before.

We need mercy every day, and God has provided it because His Word says that His mercy is new every day and His faithfulness is great and abundant (see Lamentations 3:23). Our sin will never exceed God’s mercy because where sin abounds, grace abounds much more (see Romans 5:20).

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You very much for Your amazing mercy. Teach me how to receive not only mercy but also all of Your gracious benefits. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

British & Russian Police Link Up at World Cup Amid Bitter Relations Between Countries – Urban Christian News

Just as Bob Green was about to leave for a World Cup voyage across Russia, it became tense in the England supporter’s household, as his girlfriend worried about his safety.

“There were massive concerns, arguments,” he recalled. “Hiding my passport on the last day.”

Two years ago in France, Green was in Marseille’s Old Port when Russian hooligan gangs attacked English fans before the two countries played at the European Championship.

“Some people were violent,” Green said. “But I’m not going to get driven away from what I love and have done for so many years by 150 people.”

British police want to keep fans such as Green safe in Russia, but to do so, they need to cooperate with Russian officials while the two governments are feuding over the poisoning of a former spy.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Britain was almost “almost 100 percent sure” President Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin ordered the March attack on ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in England using the military-grade nerve agent, Novichok. Russians were outraged by Johnson comparing this World Cup to the 1936 Olympics in Hitler’s Germany. Millions of Russians died fighting the Nazis in World War II.

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts, the head of British football policing, now has to work alongside officials from a country that accused the UK of fabricating the poisoning.

“Of course we are aware of the threats and the broader political situation, but we need to maintain an effective relationship with the Russian police,” Roberts told The Associated Press. “That’s not being…

At Least 7 Injured When Taxi Crashes Into Pedestrians in Moscow – Urban Christian News

Police in Moscow say at least seven people have been injured when a taxi crashed into pedestrians on a sidewalk near Red Square.

Police say the driver in the crash Saturday has been detained. Preliminary information indicated the driver lost control of the vehicle.

There were no immediate details on the severity of the pedestrians’ injuries. Police initially said eight were injured, but later said seven had sought medical attention.

The agency that monitors Moscow’s traffic safety said the driver is a citizen of the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan who told police that the crash was not intentional. The accident took place on Ilinka Street, about 200 meters (650 feet) from Red Square and Moscow’s famous GUM shopping arcade.

Russia is currently hosting the World Cup and Moscow is one of 11 Russian cities where tournament games are being played.
