Topic: Ultimate Authority [Saturday May 6, 2017]

Text: Numbers 15:30-41

Key Verse: “That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God” (Numbers 15:40).

Today’s sing-song is unfettered, unlimited liberty. Individuals including children, want freedom to do whatever they like. Communities yearn for autonomy and nations fight to have independence. The whole system tends towards permissiveness.

The text reveals God’s disdain for wilful disobedience to His commandments. Such people who disobeyed His instituted authority were cut off from among the people. Imagine a family without rules to regulate its relationship or an organisation without policies or a society without laws or a country without constitution. Disorderliness will pervade the whole system, chaos will reign supreme and anarchy will be enthroned.

Though countries have constitutions to guide and regulate their behaviour, God is the Lord over the earth and its inhabitants. He created us and everything in the world. His singular act of creation makes Him the ultimate Lawgiver. “For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations” (Psalm 22:28). God’s laws have certain characteristics. First, they are objective: for the benefit of mankind. Second, they are universal – same laws govern the whole earth. Third, they are impartial – God’s laws have no respect for the person of man. Four, they are practical: makes no impossible demand. Five, they are immutable: His laws are constant. Six, there is unity in God’s law. And seven, the law of God calls us to responsibility. We are to make conscious effort to obey the Lord. God delegated authority to man since He would not live physically among men.

Therefore, He expects us to be subject to constituted authority such as our parents, bosses, leaders, governors and kings. (Romans 13:1) No one can disobey God without suffering grave consequences.

Thought for the day: Those who break God’s laws break away from His grace and mercy, incurring attendant punishment.

Topic: Never Too Small To Be Part of Greatness [Saturday May 6, 2017]

Scripture: For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9.

Thought For The Day: It is not how great you are as a person but the greatness you contribute to a system that matters.

It has been established that greatness is a function of inter-connected sequence and system of events. Neglecting a little contribution to a great system, no matter how minute it might be, could truncate the holistic functionality of the system.
Sometime ago, I heard a funny folktale: An elephant suddenly found that a rabbit was sitting on its back.  While the elephant was moving across a wooden bridge with the rabbit on its back, the bridge shook. The rabbit whispered to the elephant: ‘Did you notice that we just shook the bridge?’

A person may not be an ‘engine’ in an organisation but he may be playing a vital role in the motion of that organization. Similarly, one inactive wire can stop the motion of a car. So, never you say that you will not be serious with your job because you are not the CEO of your organization. Even if you are not the ‘Engine’, you could be the ‘Kick starter’ without which the vehicle’s ignition cannot be turned on.

It is not how great you are as a person but the greatness you contribute to a system that matters. And by so doing, you effectively represent God’s Kingdom to your world like Daniel.

Beloved, ensure that you participate in making something great and you will be part of that greatness.

Remember this: It is not how great you are as a person but the greatness you contribute to a system that matters.

1.    Deploy your energy maximally in any cause you are involved in.

2.    Ask God for the grace to work with maximum commitment.

Topic: Put the Word Into Action [Saturday May 6, 2017]

Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. – Matthew 7:24

If you want your deeds to be blessed, if you want to see supernatural results in your life, you’ll have to do more than simply read the Word of God. You’ll have to put it into action.

That’s what I did. Years ago when I realized that God was the One who had the answers to all my problems, that He was the One who could supply all my needs, I committed myself to do everything His Word told me to do. I made a quality decision to step out in faith on every command I saw there.

When I found out, for example, that God’s Word instructed me to tithe, Gloria and I were already trying to stretch what little money we had further than it could possibly go. We were up to our necks in debt! We couldn’t possibly afford to give away 10 percent. But, we did it anyway. We stepped out on faith and kept our commitment to do every command we saw. Before long we began to see financial increase. We’ve been increasing ever since.

Keep on reading and studying the Bible. Listen to teaching tapes. Go to church and hear the Word preached. But don’t stop there. Go one crucial step further by taking the Word you’ve heard and put it into action!

Topic: Should I Forgive? [Saturday May 6, 2017]

Read: Matthew 18:23–35, Bible in a Year: 1 Kings 21–22; Luke 23:26–56

Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13

I arrived early at my church to help set up for an event. A woman stood crying at the opposite end of the sanctuary. She’d been cruel and gossiped about me in the past, so I quickly drowned out her sobs with a vacuum cleaner. Why should I care about someone who didn’t like me?

When the Holy Spirit reminded me how much God had forgiven me, I crossed the room. The woman shared that her baby had been in the hospital for months. We cried, embraced, and prayed for her daughter. After working through our differences, we’re now good friends.

 In Matthew 18, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a king who decided to settle his accounts. A servant who owed a staggering amount of money pleaded for mercy. Soon after the king canceled his debt, that servant tracked down and condemned a man who owed him far less than what he’d owed the king. When word got back to the king, the wicked servant was imprisoned because of his own unforgiving spirit (vv. 23–34).

Choosing to forgive doesn’t condone sin, excuse the wrongs done to us, or minimize our hurts. Offering forgiveness simply frees us to enjoy God’s undeserved gift of mercy, as we invite Him to accomplish beautiful works of peace-restoring grace in our lives and our relationships.

Prayer: Lord, help us give our grievances to You so that You may turn them into something good. Make us ready to forgive completely and earnestly. Give us Your spirit of unity.

Forgiving others expresses our trust in God’s right to judge according to His perfection and goodness.

Insight:

Are you withholding forgiveness from someone who has harmed you? As you reflect on how merciful God has been to you, why not ask Him to help you have a spirit of forgiveness.

Topic: Seek God For Yourself [Saturday May 6, 2017]

Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves . . . — Psalm 100:3

Whenever anyone asks me how I can be so certain about who and what God really is, I am reminded of the story of the little boy who was out flying a kite. It was a fine day to go kite-flying, the wind was brisk, and large billowy clouds were blowing across the sky. The kite went up and up until it was entirely hidden by the clouds. “What are you doing?” a man asked the little boy. “I’m flying a kite,” he replied.

“Flying a kite, are you?” the man said, “How can you be sure? You can’t see your kite.” “No,” said the little boy, “I can’t see it, but every little while I feel a tug, so I know for sure that it’s there!” Don’t take anyone else’s word for God. Find Him for yourself, and then you too will know by the wonderful, warm tug on your heartstring, that He is there, for sure.

Prayer for the day: Oh heavenly Father, as I reach out to You I feel the “tug” of Your Holy Spirit, which tells me of Your presence!

Topic: Regaining The Lost Glory [05/05/2017]

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:18. Read: Matt 28:18-20

When Adam lost the glory to the devil in the garden of Eden, he also lost the fivefold authority God gave him to dominate all the works of God on earth. Man has been under the mercy of the devil instead of the devil to be under the mercy of man. But God’s love for the man He created from His image propelled Him to make away of redemption. Though Adam lost the glory, Jesus came to restore or reinstate it. Adam brought death (both physical and spiritual) to humanity, Jesus brought life in abundance and eternal life. Gen 2:17, Jn 3:16, 10:10.

Every unrepentant sinner have lost their glory and under the devil’s mercy (though they may appear to be free). The recovery of your glory is only in Christ Jesus. Many of us know how we started, but all of a sudden, their was a negative turnaround, everything wobbled and crumbled just as it happened to Adam. If you indeed want to regain the lost glory in your life, family, career, studies and business back, you must approach the one that has the solution – the resurrection and life, Jesus Christ. He can bring back to life what is dead and buried. Adam brought death, Jesus brought life everlasting. Hallelujah!
