Govt’s freedom of religion envoy says both Tory candidates will protect persecuted Christians

Last week, an independent review was released about the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s support of persecuted Christians globally.

The Bishop of Truro, Rt Rev Philip Mountstephen, recommended that the government be prepared to use sanctions, that diplomats work with local religious minorities and that civil servants get religious literacy training, among other recommendations.

When asked by Archbishop Angaelos, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church in London, how the recommendations of the report would be enacted given the curent political climate, Lord Ahmad said he could assure him that there would be cross-departmental work on stopping Christophobia, a term Mr Hunt announced the FCO would use last week, and that he has confidence both Jermy Hutn and Boris Johnson would apply the Bishop’s advice.

Speaking of the Prime Ministerial candidates, Lord Ahmad said: “I can personally reflect on the two gentlemen who are campaigning to run my party and indeed become the Prime Minister. We haven’t got that much of a wait now, there’s only a week or so. It’s not just words -judging by their actions – the first, the former Foreign Secretary Mr Johnson, actually created and recommended the role of the envoy [pof freedom of religion and belief] within the context of the terms of reference.

“The second, the current Foreign Secretary, initiated the review. It’s…

‘Miracle’ Recovery of Young Boy Who Stopped Breathing as His Family Sang and Prayed to God

‘Miracle’ Recovery of Young Boy Who Stopped Breathing as His Family Sang and Prayed to God

Twelve-year-old boy Levi Floyd credits God for his miraculous recovery when he stopped breathing at a local beach as his family sang and prayed to God for his recovery.

“It was a miracle no doubt,” Levi’s mother, Lyndsey Floyd, said, as reported by the Christian Post.

Last weekend, while the family vacationed at North Carolina’s Holden Beach, the pre-teen dove into a wave and never re-surfaced. When his family noticed he never came back up, his father pulled him from the water to find that he had gone blue and was no longer breathing.

“Levi’s lifeless. There was nothing,” Lyndsey recalled. “It looked like [his father] threw 120 pounds of blue rubber. Like he wasn’t even a person.”

Levi’s cousin, who is a nurse, started to perform CPR on the boy. Former Duke Life Flight nurse, Derek Gibson, who was vacationing on the beach with his family, saw a nervous crowd gathering and walked over to help. The nurses continued CPR, but Levi was still not recovering.

While the nurses attempted to bring oxygen back to Levi’s lungs, his family of Christians started to pray and sing. “I just remember running to them, ‘Sing louder, babies, just worship Him louder. Sing louder!’ And the louder they got as I ran back to Levi, I hear Derek yell, ‘There’s a pulse,’” Lyndsey said.

Levi has since made a full recovery after…

Christian charity says mayor is playing politics with knife crime speech

Sadiq Khan on Monday quoted analysis of data from the Met Police, British Transport Police, the NHS and the Ambulance Service, before blaming rising knife crime on social exclusion, poverty and Conservative spending cuts.

Eustace Constance, Operation Director of Christian charity Ascension Trust told Premier he thought Mr Khan was just playing politics.

“I personally think it’s election time and the mayor is doing what all politicians do,” Mr Constance claimed.

“The information and the connection that the mayor has made are not new.”

He added: “It isn’t a revelation that ten to 16-year-olds are more susceptible to criminal activities after school hours. We were saying that over 16 years ago, that is why we started school pastors.

“Or that with 18 to 24-year-olds, violence happens over the weekend. We said that 16 years ago. That’s why we started Street Pastors.

“We’re not unique in that – the stats that he’s quoting now have been available to the mayor, they’ve been available to the Metropolitan Police and others for many years.”

There has been a spate of stabbings in the city this year.

PA

The London mayor called for an end to the “nine year experiment to shrink the state” in a speech at a youth club close to where a person was stabbed less than 24-hours ago.

There have been at least 33 fatal stabbings in London this year,…

21 Inmates Give Their Lives to Jesus at Hillsong NYC and Prison Fellowship ‘Hope Event’ Service

21 Inmates Give Their Lives to Jesus at Hillsong NYC and Prison Fellowship ‘Hope Event’ Service

Hillsong NYC and Prison Fellowship joined with inmates in New York for a night of hope as part of the “Hope Events” initiative.

According to The Christian Post, the event took place July 3 and included about 43 male inmates at the Rikers Island detention center.

The event, held in the Rikers Island gym, featured live music from Hillsong NYC’s worship band and Chris Davenport, of Hillsong United. A Hillsong NYC band member spoke and Prison Fellowship field director Jose Negron also delivered a message.

Some 21 inmates came forward during the event’s altar call, said Jennifer Lowrey, Prison Fellowship senior director of programs and special events.

“It has an amazing lyric about not being alone and about how Jesus is our other person in the fire with us,” Lowrey said of the Hillsong United song, “Another in the Fire.”

“I was standing back next to the men so I could see the lyrics. … I just couldn’t stop crying,” she said.

“It just moved me so much. The guy right next to me couldn’t stop crying. It was amazing to see.”

Lowrey’s parents had previously been detained at the detention center.

“I think the thing that moved me on a personal level was that I am so grateful that we have an opportunity to bring hope into places like Rikers,” Lowrey told CP. “At the same time, it makes me really…

Christian doctor in transgender row ‘was not suspended from work’, tribunal told

Dr David Mackereth claims he was sacked after saying he would not “call any 6ft tall bearded man madam” during an “abstract discussion” with his manager.

The 56-year-old, from Dudley, West Midlands, alleges the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) discriminated against his religious beliefs, costing him his job as a disability claim assessor.

As well as claiming religious discrimination, Dr Mackereth maintains that no effort was made to accommodate his beliefs, such as referring transgender clients at Birmingham’s Five Ways assessment centre to another doctor.

On the third day of the Birmingham tribunal, centre manager James Owen said he had a meeting with Dr Mackereth on June 13 last year and then “respected his wishes not to work”.

In a written statement describing the meeting, Mr Owen said: “I then asked the claimant if he would respect the customer’s wish to be referred to by their chosen sexuality and name and would he convey that in his written report.

“The claimant categorically stated that he would not do that due to his beliefs and he could not put that in a report as his conscience would not allow that.

“The claimant also stated that he understood that his behaviour could be offensive.”

Mr Owen added: “I read the answers back to the claimant and asked him to confirm if I had captured the information correctly. The claimant agreed.

“The claimant clearly…

Suit: Boston Bans Christian Flag but Approves 284 Other Ones

Suit: Boston Bans Christian Flag but Approves 284 Other Ones

The city of Boston is engaging in unconstitutional discrimination against religious speech by banning the Christian flag from its City Hall flagpoles while permitting more than 200 other types of flags to fly, according to a new federal lawsuit.

The suit by Liberty Counsel was filed Monday on behalf of citizen Hal Shurtleff and his Christian civic organization, Camp Constitution. Shurtleff wanted to fly the flag during a one-hour event on Constitution Day in 2017 and 2018 to commemorate the contributions of the Christian community but was denied.

The city allows a variety of flags to fly on its flagpoles to commemorate civic and cultural organizations yet prohibits non-secular flags.

A federal court and an appeals court previously ruled against Shurtleff. The new lawsuit includes a new set of “key facts” that should “compel a result in Camp Constitution’s favor,” the suit says.

Among those new facts: At least 13 times between 2005 and 2019, the city allowed the Turkish flag — with its Islamic star and crescent – to be raised on city hall flag poles, the suit says. The city also allowed the Chinese, Cuban and Vatican flags to fly on city hall flag poles. All total, according to the suit, 284 different types of flags have flown. Not mentioned in the new suit are transgender and LGBT pride flags, both of which have flown.

“Yet, despite all of these many…
