Leadership skills and knowing who you are as a leader are important as you lead a revitalization. Today we discuss the 12 types of leaders in a revitalization.

Episode Highlights:

  • Church revitalizers are often already in place in a church. Instead of being placed there, they have to determine how to lead while already in their current role.
  • There are a lot of successful church revitalizers who aren’t the “charismatic, dynamic leader” type but are just persistent and faithful to the task.
  • Four keys for pastors looking to revitalize: preach, pray, love, and stay.
  • Revitalization need a goal or you’ll never know if it’s successful.

The five points we discuss are:

  1. Why we cannot assess most pastors to be qualified for church revitalization
  2. The strong leader personality is assumed to be the best fit
  3. Too many pastors try to change their personalities to lead revitalization
  4. In the past, most churches would grow regardless of the leadership personality of the pastor
  5. A quick look at 12 leadership personalities for revitalization

American Psychological Association Launches Task Force Encouraging Non-Monogamous Relationships

American Psychological Association Launches Task Force Encouraging Non-Monogamous Relationships

The American Psychological Association has launched a task force that will encourage “awareness and inclusivity” for any kind of sexual impulse, according to CBN News.

The APA has said the task force is dedicated to “Consensual Non-Monogamy” and is advocating for “people who practice polyamory, open relationships, swinging, relationship anarchy and other types of ethical, non-monogamous relationships.”

“Finding love and/or sexual intimacy is a central part of most people’s life experience,” the APA said on its site. “However, the ability to engage in desired intimacy without social and medical stigmatization is not a liberty for all. This task force seeks to address the needs of people who practice consensual non-monogamy, including their intersecting marginalized identities.”

However, Andre Van Mol, a California doctor and co-chairman of the committee on adolescent sexuality for the American College of Pediatricians, told the Christian Post that there is a “cult of affirmation” of people hoping to understand what he called “marginal sexual behavior.”

In 1973, the APA removed homosexuality from its definition of mental disorders. In 2009, it officially rejected conversion therapy for those with same-sex attractions.

“The Task Force on so-called ‘Consensual Non-Monogamy’ is more evidence that the American…

3000 miles in 30 days: What a cross-country ride taught a pastor about listening

Pastor Neil Tomba cycled across the US last month on a three-thousand-mile Conversations Coast to Coast ride. His team began in Santa Monica, California, on May 25, and ended thirty-three days later, on June 28, in Annapolis, Maryland.

For a month, we rode side-by-side for miles on end.

Well, sometimes we rode single file when traffic and road conditions demanded it.

As we rode, we engaged people across the country with kindness, respect, and curiosity. We had conversations and talked about things that were important to them and to us.

We asked questions about where they live, what they value, what they think is important to their community, if they think about spiritual things, and what they think about Jesus.

We tried not only to show others how we can have kind and respectful conversations about faith and spiritual matters, but we wanted to use our experiences as a tool to educate and equip Christians to start conversations wherever they may be in life.

A favorite line from my days with Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ International) is the definition of successful conversations about Jesus: “taking the initiative in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God.”

I believe that Jesus’ call in my life is to impact culture but to start with individuals by connecting with people on a heart level. To do that, we live side-by-side—not as superior people with all the answers.

Riding bikes, I discovered the effectiveness of side-by-side conversations instead of going all out for face-to-face confrontations.

Talking face-to-face

Starting a conversation with someone about real issues—issues of hope, purpose, and faith—takes some effort, but it’s worth it. I believe it’s what the Lord has called us to do, as believers.

Coming alongside another person and just talking can be comfortable. Nonthreatening. Just standing next to someone and listening…

Cliff Richard says anonymity law not just for stars

In a video released by the Falsely Accused Individuals for Reform (FAIR), who advocate for justice and law reform for those falsely accused of sexual offences, Sir Cliff said: “It’s not just for celebrities, it’ll be for the everyday man in the street.”

He added: “I’d had this false accusation and I can only tell you what it would have done for me had I not been named.

“I was never charged, I was never arrested. It still bugs me that other people, men and women are going to find themselves in that same position.

“The only way to help them is to make a change in the law, the rules aren’t correct.”

Cliff called for a change in the law on sex-offence investigations, after accusations of child sexual assault made against the singer, were broadcast by the BBC.

The proposed Anonymity (Arrested Persons) Bill would make it illegal for those arrested for alleged sexual abuse to be publicly named until charges have been brought.

The parliamentary petition supported by FAIR, has been signed by over 24,000 people since it went live 13 days ago.

Seven Thoughts on Pastoral Attire in Worship Services

Podcast Episode #553

Pastoral attire has changed dramatically over the past few decades. Today, we examine why that has happened and how to adapt to this change.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • When preaching in a new or unfamiliar place, be sure to ask about the expected attire.
  • Bow ties have replaced regular ties as the hot fashion for dress attire. But bow ties aren’t for everyone.
  • Sometimes, fighting the “expected pastoral dress code” isn’t worth the battle, and you put the greater good of the church above your personal preferences.
  • The church plant culture we have in the US doesn’t have the same expectations for pastoral attire as the established church culture does.

The seven things you need to understand regarding pastoral attire are:

  1. Understand the demographic context
  2. Understand the reasonableness of the church’s expectations
  3. Understand the changes in fashion
  4. Understand the community
  5. Understand the principles of change leadership
  6. Understand the issue of love over preference
  7. Understand the members’ emotional attachments
