Be a Friend

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.
— Colossians 1:28

Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California and Harvest Orange County in Irvine, California, shares the Gospel with a sold-out crowd of 19,000 for Harvest America at the American Airlines Center and Victory Park in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 5, 2014.

Christian Post Report – Somewhere along the line, we have separated evangelism from discipleship. We preach the gospel, but we don’t disciple. We don’t get people on their feet spiritually. But the two go together.

The conversion of Saul of Tarsus, one of the most notorious nonbelievers ever, was so unexpected that a lot of people didn’t think it was true. So God spoke to a Christian named Ananias and told him to visit Saul. After some initial resistance, Ananias obeyed and found Saul (who later changed his name to Paul), prayed for him, and took the time to encourage him. Then God brought another man into Paul’s life, and his name was Barnabas. He introduced Paul to the apostles and vouched for his conversion.

A lot of people want to be an apostle Paul, but would someone please be an Ananias or a Barnabas—a person who works behind the scenes? You may not be the next Billy Graham, but you may the best person who helps to nurture the next Billy Graham.

You can show that person what a Christian family, a Christian man, or a Christian woman looks like. You can befriend that individual who has no friends and bring him or her into your group. You don’t know what God can do in the life of that person.

Discipling someone is not just talking to that person about Jesus; it is also being a friend. And that is what a lot of people need: a friend. That is what I needed as a brand-new believer. Thankfully, someone named Mark saw that I came to Christ and very persistently said, “You’re going to church with me.” I was resistant at first. But he won me over and ended up helping me get grounded in the faith. That is what discipling is.

ISIS Jihadis Repeatedly Raped Terminal Cancer Patient as ‘Prize’ for Battle; Sex Slaves Beaten for Crying

Yazidis (Photo: Reuters/Asmaa Waguih)

Kurdish Yazidis, relatives of a Peshmerga fighter killed in a suicide attack in Sinjar province, mourn with another relative, also member of the Peshmerga, before the burial ceremony at Mazar Sharaf Eldin, a sacred and cemetery area for the Yazidi minority, north of Sinjar, March 2, 2015. A number of Peshmerga were killed and others injured after two suicide car bombs attacks targeted a building the Peshmerga were using for fighting, according to Peshmerga officials.

Christian Post Report – Recently published testimony provided by an escaped Yazidi Islamic State captive battling a “terminal illness” has revealed more horrifying details into ISIS’ blatant disregard for human rights and how many of the thousands of Yazidi sex slaves were sorted and divided as battle “shares” for militants.

In an op-ed published by the International Business Times, Murad Ismael, a Yazid activist who works for the NGO Yazda, wrote about a Yazidi women named Samia who was taken captive, along with her two sisters, after ISIS seized her Iraqi village of Kocho on Aug. 15 of last year.

Although Samia was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and was still receiving chemotherapy last August when she was taken hostage — along with 130 other women and girls from her village — that didn’t prevent her from being subject to the total wrath of the group’s sexual and physical brutality that it systemically imposes on religious minority women.

“I met her in a wealthy home, which took her in after she and her 19-year-old sister, Sanaa, managed to escape the IS captors,” Ismael wrote. “Her story shows IS in all its depraved brutality, particularly given she is battling a terminal illness.”

While Samia and her sisters, Sanaa and Sara, were loaded up onto trucks and taken away from their village by ISIS militants, her husband, brother and father were separated and taken away with a large group of other yazidi men. Samia’s mother was also separated and put in a group with other older women from the village. Ismael reported that the large group of men and large group of older women were later mass executed, although Samia’s husband was able to escape before his slaying.

Members of the minority Yazidi sect who were newly released hug each other on the outskirts of Kirkuk, April 8, 2015. More than 200 elderly and infirm Yazidis were freed on Wednesday by Islamic State militants who had been holding them captive since overrunning their villages in northwestern Iraq last summer.

The women and girls were taken to ISIS’ Iraqi stronghold of Mosul. When they got to Mosul, Samia said ISIS militants confiscated all the females’ belongings, including her cancer medication.

Militants later divided up the group of over 100 girls and sent Samia and her two sisters, along with 32 other women and girls, to live with an ISIS wali (chief) named Haji Shaker.

“The wali received us at his residence [in the IS camp] and told us that we are his share,” Samia told Ismael. “Four more Yazidi women were at his residence when we arrived.”

After arriving to the ISIS chief’s quarters, Samia said she and her sister did not eat for six days. The girls were starved so bad that they wanted to cry; however, there was an ISIS militant standing guard with a chain to beat any woman or girl who cried.

“Even tears were forbidden,” Samia explained.

One day, the girls were asked to take a shower. Samia and her sisters knew that meant they would be sexually abused. Although they did not want to subject themselves to that, a militant with a whip forced them into the shower.

In another instance, the militants went around checking on all the women and girls’ faces with a flashlight.

“It was my sister’s turn, the gunman wanted to check my little sister’s face. Sanaa put her head down, but the gunman pulled her by her hair and hit her face with the flashlight,” Samia described. “We cried, we begged them to leave my sister alone, and finally the man moved on to another girl. The other girl was also from Kocho, age 15, she was beaten up with the whip and dragged down the stairs from her hair.”

“We were very scared, we were crying and screaming. They were beating us up every time we cried. They were insulting us, insulting our faith,” she continued.

Samia explained that all the girls that were brought to the chief’s house were eventually gifted away to other ISIS fighters as battle presents. While Samia’s sister, Sara, was gifted away to another militant, her other sister, Sanaa, remained at the chief’s house, where she tried to escape but was caught and punished.

“My sister was beaten up so bad, she could not walk for 20 days” Samia recalls. “She was beaten up by two IS militants. Her body was covered with marks and blood and she was put alone in a room for two days without food or water.”

Samia was gifted to a militant named Abu Ahmed. She explicitly told him that she and her husband had not engaged in sex for three years because of her cancer. However, the militant completely disregarded her condition.

“These pleas went unheeded,” Ismael wrote in IBT. “Samia was raped multiple times by Abu Ahmed; in fact, she was forced to have sex every time he came back from battle, as a kind of trophy, a reward for his efforts in the field.”

The first time that Samia tried to escape, she was eventually caught and pinned down by three militants. However, that did not deter her from trying again. After 25 days of horror, Samia, Sanaa and another girl successfully slid down a scarf from a second-floor window and hid in a nearby abandoned building for two days while they contacted a Yazidi activist. The activist contacted a person in Mosul to pick the girls up and drive them to a Kurdistan border town to meet up with their family members who were lucky enough to escape.

Once Samia reached the border, she was finally reunited with her husband and was able to continue her cancer treatment. She has since moved to Germany to take part in a Yazidi resettlement program offered through the government.

Although Samia was reunited with her husband, she is still unaware of the fate of her brother, mother and father.

“No one has seen them dead. We hope they are alive. We have to hope, We will wait for them forever,” Samia asserted.

Ethiopians March in Mass Rally Condemning Slaughter of Christian Compatriots at Hands of ‘Satanic’ ISIS

A woman mourns with the framed picture of a man said to be among the 30 Ethiopian victims killed by members of the militant Islamic State in Libya, in the capital Addis Ababa, April 21, 2015.

Tens of thousands of Ethiopians marched on Thursday in the capital of Addis Ababa in solidarity with the 28 murdered Christians at the hands of terror group ISIS. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn described the terror group at the rally as “Satanic.”

“This week’s cruel act, which was committed against our citizens in Libya, not only gives a glimpse into terrorism, but also shows the Satanic acts and objectives of those who committed the act,” Desalegn told the mass rally in Addis Ababa’s Meskel Square, according to BBC News.

The response comes to a video released by ISIS on Sunday depicting the execution of two groups of Ethiopian Christians, one where the hostages were shot, and the other where they were beheaded. The militants directed their message to “the nation of the cross,” referencing a previous video they released in February that showed the beheading of 21 Coptic Christians.

ISIS has become active in several towns across Libya after capturing significant territory in Iraq and Syria.

Reuters noted that protesters at the rally carried slogans such as “We will not bow down to terrorism!” and “The world must be united against terrorism.”

Although the rally was condoned by the government, several scuffles reportedly broke out with police, forcing officers to use tear gas to subdue the protesters.

Desalegn further said that Ethiopia must fight “home-grown extremism,” and warned that those who decide to illegally immigrate risk falling prey to human traffickers.

“It is clear to everyone that our fellow citizens all have the right to live and work in any part of the world. But the illegal migration that leads to unnecessary suffering and death carried out by illegal human traffickers must stop,” he warned.

The murdered Ethiopians are believed to have been migrants making the route across the Sahara aiming to reach Europe via Libya. Many in the region take their chances with such trips in order to escape high unemployment rates and conflict.

Family members have so far been able to identify two of the victims.

“I am in pain. The innocent son of a poor mother butchered like he was,” said Ahaza Kasaye, the mother of one of the men. “But I am heartened to see so many Ethiopians mourn him.”

According to the CIA World Factbook, Ethiopia is a religiously diverse nation, with close to 43.5 percent of the population belonging to the Eastern Orthodox Church, another 33.9 percent identifying as Muslims, and the majority of the rest belonging to other Christian denominations.

The faith communities in the country, which enjoy relatively peaceful relations, have said that they have been left stunned by the terror act.

The slaughter of the Ethiopian Christians has been condemned both by Christian groups and Muslim leaders around the world. The University of Al Azhar, the highest academic center of Sunni Islam, said earlier this week that the killings committed by ISIS “go against any religion, law or human conduct.”

Watch 5,000 Years of Religious History in 90 Seconds to See the Amazing Impact of Christian Missions

History of Religion (Photo: screengrab from MapsofWar.com)

History of Religion

Christian Post Report – An animation map showing 5,000 years of religious history in 90 seconds shows the effect of Christian missions on the spread of Christianity.

Created by MapsOfWar.com, the “History of Religion” map shows the areas of the globe where the five main religions, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam were dominant.

The video begins with the birth of Hinduism in 3,000 B.C. Then you see the birth of Judaism in 2,000 B.C., followed by Buddhism in 480 B.C., Christianity in 32 A.D. and Islam in 570 A.D.

For most of the 90 seconds, Christianity is isolated, at most, to the Mediterranean and Europe. Then in the last nine seconds, or 500 years, you see Christianity expand to most of the globe.

According to its “about” page, Maps-of-War was created by “a graphic-design hobbyist and professional history-buff,” and has been around since 2006.

The website’s creator said it is “all about the ‘Big Picture’ of history, not measured in years, but in centuries. The media does not show us this viewpoint and my hope is that Maps-of-War will help fill this gap.”

Nigerian Catholic Bishop Claims Jesus Visited Him in Vision to Say Boko Haram Will Be Destroyed Through Rosary Prayer

Nigeria (Photo: Reuters/Afolabi Sotunde)

Members attend a memorial church service for victims of a suicide bomb attack at St. Theresa’s Church in Madalla, on the outskirts of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, December 23, 2012. Boko Haram has killed hundreds in its campaign to impose sharia law in northern Nigeria and is the biggest threat to stability in Africa’s top oil exporter. This Christmas, the police and military are expecting more trouble in the north. They’ve ordered security to be tightened, people’s movement restricted and churches to be guarded. But such is the commitment to religion in a country with Africa’s largest Christian population that millions of people will pack out thousands of churches in the coming days. It is impossible to protect everyone, security experts say. Picture taken December 23, 2012.

Christian Post Report – A Nigerian Roman Catholic bishop has claimed that he was visited last year in a vision by Jesus Christ, who told him that the terrorist group Boko Haram will be destroyed, key to which will be praying the rosary.

Catholic News Agency reported that Bishop Oliver Dashe Doeme, who leads the Diocese of Maiduguri in Borno State, said in an interview conducted last week that he is urging Christians to pray the rosary, which will rid Nigeria from the militants.

“Toward the end of last year I was in my chapel before the Blessed Sacrament … praying the rosary, and then suddenly the Lord appeared,” Dashe said.

The bishop explained that Jesus extended a sword, which then turned into a rosary when he reached out to grab it. Christ then said three times “Boko Haram is gone.”

“I didn’t need any prophet to give me the explanation,” Dashe asserted. “It was clear that with the rosary we would be able to expel Boko Haram.”

He added that “prayer, particularly the prayer of the rosary, is (what) will deliver us from the claws of this demon, the demon of terrorism. And of course, it is working.”

The cleric revealed that at first, he did not want to share his vision with other people, but then “felt that the Holy Spirit” was pushing him to do so.

Boko Haram has killed thousands of Nigerians since it began carrying out its attacks in 2009, and is determined to drive out all Christians from the country. The militants have also declared their allegiance to ISIS, which is spreading its Islamic Caliphate throughout Iraq and Syria and other countries in the region.

Boko Haram has been less successful when attempting to expand its territory outside Nigeria’s borders, and has been pushed back by neighboring countries, like Cameroon.

Nigerians have also expressed hopes that the nation’s newly elected president, Muhammadu Buhari, will be able to drive out the terror group all together. Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan had been widely criticized for failing to implement an effective strategy against the terror group.

As a retired general, Buhari focused his presidential campaign heavily on promises of putting an end to Boko Haram’s terror attacks.

BBC News reported that a heavy offensive by Nigeria’s military has managed to win back a significant deal of the territory the Islamic extremists had captured in the past year. Ground troops are now searching for the last known hideouts of the group, which are believed to be located in the northeastern Sambisa forest.

Despite the many acts of terrorism Boko Haram has carried out on churches and Christian communities, especially in the Borno region, Dashe said that he believes one day his diocese will completely recover and grow.

“These terrorists … think that by burning our churches, burning our structures, they will destroy Christianity. Never,” he said.

“It may take a few months or a few years … but ‘Boko Haram is gone.'”

The Rewards of Being Humble

The Rewards of Being Humble

Jesus says in Matthew 5:3 (AMP), “Blessed…are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!”

Christian Post Report – Let’s face it: humility isn’t a very popular word. Yet, all throughout the Bible, the Lord instructs us about the benefits of being “humble-minded.”

I love James 4:6. It says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (ESV). In other words, the humble get the help!

I believe humility is often misunderstood and even viewed as a weakness. But it’s the exact opposite. Humility places us in a position to receive God’s grace and become everything He’s called us to be.

A humble person is also a happy person. They can take joy in their life and what God has called them to do, regardless of what the world thinks about it.

A Christian Mission . . . to Harvard!

A Christian Mission . . . to Harvard!

Harvard University was founded in 1636 with a clear Christian mission statement: “To be plainly instructed and consider well that the main end of your life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ.” Today, Harvard’s purpose is starkly different. No longer upholding a mission statement citing Jesus Christ, the university only expresses that its charge is “to educate the citizens and citizen-leaders for our society.”
A bastion of liberal secular education, Harvard University is certainly not the most open environment to Christian faith and values. The same is said of Yale, Dartmouth, and Princeton. Still, God is working within Harvard University and America’s Ivy League universities.

Mark Burnett and Roma Downey at “The Bible Experience” opening night gala on March 19, 2013 in New York.

Husband and wife team Roma Downey and Mark Burnett are being recognized on Newsmax’s list of top 100 Christian leaders in America this week for their work in television and film, including the hit series “A.D. – The Bible Continues.”

Selected based on their ability to “make a real impact on modern lives in 2015,” the annual list of Christian leaders celebrates individuals beyond televangelists and pastors. As co-creators of the “Bible” series as well as its NBC spinoff “A.D. – The Bible Continues,” Downey and Burnett “have resurrected the Christian entertainment industry,” according to Newsmax.

“A.D. – The Bible Continues” premiered on Easter Sunday as the No. 1 television show of the night on the major networks in every key measure — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54, with over 9.5 million people tuning in. The series also became the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter.

In addition to “A.D.,” Downey and Burnett co-produced both CBS’ “The Dovekeepers” and the upcoming film “Little Boy,” which hits theaters on Friday, April 24.

Among other notable Christian influencers named on the top 100 Christian leaders in America list are: Franklin Graham, Joel Osteen, Rev. Billy Graham, and Mike Huckabee. Rounding out the top 10 list are the Archbishop of Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Saddleback’s pastor Rick Warren, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., author Joyce Meyer and Christian Broadcasting Network’s Chairman Pat Robertson.

Meanwhile, Downey and Burnett’s “A.D. – The Bible Continues” picks up right where the “Bible” left off, telling the harrowing yet uplifting journey through the birth of the church. Exploring the first 10 chapters of the book of Acts, the television series depicts the aftermath of Christ’s death and its impact on his disciples as well as his mother, Mary, and key political and religious leaders of the time.

The 12-week series airs at 9 p.m. ET each Sunday on NBC. Watch a video about the making of “A.D.” below.
