LA Angels MLB 2015 News, Rumors: Angels Create Public Relations Mess With Josh Hamilton Statement

Christian Post Report – The Los Angeles Angels have made a complete mess of the Josh Hamilton situation. They now seem very callous in their treatment of one of their star players and rather obviously would have preferred he be suspended and they not be on the hook for his 2015 salary. That is an OK idea to have privately but creates large problems when the team than has to deal with its fans, the player himself, and the other 24 men on the roster.

Los Angeles Angels MLB, Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have created a PR nightmare with recent comments about Josh Hamilton

CJ Wilson had some comments about the ongoing saga of Hamilton that were reported on NBC’s Hardball talk via the Orange County Register. In those comments Wilson said that the team’s statement about his teammate were, “kind of disheartening.” Wilson went on to say, “The statement had multiple phases. I’m just going to focus on the last part of it, which was, ‘We are focused on Josh and his family.’ That’s the part that I agree with.”

Wilson, Hector Santiago and Huston Street have all been public supporters of Hamilton.

The curious tone from the Angels front office makes little sense. They may have had private hopes of a suspension that would ease some of their payroll for 2015.

The Angels entered into a the contract with Hamilton knowing the risks. His battle with addiction has been well documented and this is not the first time he has slipped. Knowing that going into the contract that should have been very prepared for the very real likelihood it would happen again.

Netflix’s official announcement, which was done via their social media account, stated that production for the upcoming season is scheduled to commence this summer.

Although the streaming service provider has yet to release the outing date as well as the synopsis of the show’s forthcoming chapter, a lot of speculations about the fate of the Underwoods have gone on online. One theory pointed out to the growing tension between the couple which will result to something drastic.

A report from Enstarz cited executive producer Beau Willimon’s interview with The Daily Beast wherein he discussed the “contentious points” in the show particularly that of the Frank’s treatment towards his wife.

“The scariest thing for us, narratively, was to take the core of this show, its greatest strength — this unorthodox, unholy union between these two people — and see it break apart,” Willimon talks about Frank and Claire’s deteriorating relationship. “It had to be violent, and not just physically, but psychologically. What we’re seeing is a rift. It’s had 28 years to grow stronger, and through the course of a very short amount of time in the White House, it’s come apart.”

Will the earlier theories of Claire killing Frank or the opposite come true?

Detroit Lions NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Can Ryan Broyles Become an Impact Player for Lions?

Christian Post Report – Ryan Broyles for most NFL fans is a forgotten player. A second round draft pick (54th overall) in the 2012 NFL draft that has never made much of an impact. He has lost time due to injuries to both legs. However, in Detroit in a receiver corps that features Calvin Johnson and now Golden Tate, Broyles is one the players on the Lions roster who is most talked about. That may be because of General Manger Martin Mayhew’s Matt Millen like infinity for drafting wide receivers and tight ends that never live up to their draft status.

The Detroit Lions spent a second round pick on Ryan Broyles in 2012, but injuries have limited his effectiveness ever since

Now days Broyles is the fifth wide out on a team that dresses four. He has shown some flashes of greatness including a particularly good preseason campaign a year ago. He led the Lions in pre-season catches and then was basically unheard from during the regular season.

Mlive.comn reports that Head Coach Jim Caldwell has been watching tape this off season and they reported the coach saying, “I think he did show obviously some promises, particularly during the preseason,” Caldwell said. “He and Kellen (Moore) hooked up for quite a few. … He made quite a few plays over that time. Hopefully he’ll continue to improve, and find a way to work his way out on the field and do something for us.”

Mlive also reported statements made by Lions Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi.

“Listen, when the guy’s been in there, he’s been productive. And we’re excited to see where he is now after a full season of not coming back from an injury. He’s had a full year to be healthy, and we’re excited to see what he does here in the offseason and heading into camp,” he said.

If Broyles can return to the field and stay healthy he gives the Lions offense another weapon that can help stretch defense. If he cannot it is another story of a Mayhew high round draft pick that flamed well before his time.

Why Did the Mastermind Behind Al-Shabaab’s Garissa Massacre Attack the Same Town Where He Was a Teacher?

Senior Al Shabaab officer Mohamed Mohamud alias Sheik Dulayadayn addresses a news conference during clashes between Ismalist fighting and Somali government in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu this file picture taken on January 1, 2011. The death toll in an assault by Somali militants on a Kenyan university is likely to climb above 147, a government source and media said on April 3, 2015, as anger grew among local residents over what they say was a government failure to prevent bloodshed. Within hours of the attack, Kenya put up a 20 million shillings (5,000) reward for the arrest of Mohamed Mohamud, a former Garissa teacher labeled “Most Wanted” in a government poster and linked by Kenyan media to two separate al Shabaab attacks in the neighboring Mandera region last year.

Christian Post Report – The mastermind behind al-Shabaab’s recent massacre of nearly 150 Christians at Garissa University College in Kenya is a former Islamic school teacher who used to teach in that very same town. But why would a former school teacher return to the town where he once taught just to lead in the brutal slaughtering of students?

After 148 innocent Christians were killed by members of the the al-Shabaab terrorist group who stormed the campus of Garissa University College in Kenya last Thursday, Kenyan authorities placed a $220,000 bounty on the person thought to be the mastermind behind the attack, Kenyan national Mohamed Mohamud, who’s also known as Dulyadin Gamadhere.

Mohamud once taught at a Madrassa Islamic school in Garissa under the name of Sheikh Mahamad but later became radicalized and joined Al-Shabaab, Somalia’s al-Qaeda offshoot, when it formed in 2006, The Star newspaper in Nairobi reported.

The report added that Mohamud has become the militant group’s military leader for the Juba province of Somalia, where he has set up training camps and has developed a network of Shabaab supporters and operatives in Kenya.

Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told The Christian Post that Mohamud is in charge of leading cross-border attacks into Kenya and also has authority to attack the Dadaab refugee complex.

An Ugandan policeman holds his weapon during an arrest of people suspected of murdering Joan Kagezi, a senior Ugandan prosecutor, on the outskirts of Uganda’s capital Kampala, April 7, 2015. Kagezi was shot dead late on March 30, in what police said could be a targeted assassination connected to her prosecution of suspects in twin bombings in the capital Kampala claimed by the Somali Islamist rebel group al-Shabaab.

Nina Shea, the direct of the Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom, told CP that Mahamud likely chose to attack in the town where he once taught because he knows that Garissa University College has a prominent Christian student population.

“Mohamud selected the university as a target precisely because he knew it to be one of the sites most densely populated with Christians in that part of the country and to be poorly defended,” Shea wrote in an email. “The terrorists were targeting Christians because their ideology, as articulated by their leaders, does not tolerate them.”

The fact that Mohamud is a former Islamic school teacher and is now an al-Shabaab commander indicates that the group’s actions are clearly motivated by the radical Islamic call for jihad, which is something that the Obama administration failed to admit in its statements on the Garissa attack, Kyle Shideler, director of Center for Security Policy’s information office, told CP.

“This obviously undermines the argument that al-Shabaab doesn’t have a doctrinal understanding of Islam. If he is an Islamic teacher and that was his job, it puts a lie to that [notion] that jihadists engage in violence because they can’t find work,” Shideler argued. “The claim that these individuals are uneducated or that they don’t understand their doctrine, is not true either. They are themselves Islamic scholars frequently or Islamic teachers, and they view their doctrine as authorizing them to do this and so they do.”

This is not the first time that al-Shabaab has targeted Christians in Kenya for large-scale killings. Last November, al-Shabaab militants stormed onto a Kenyan bus and killed 29 people who could not recite the Islamic declaration of faith. In December, al-Shabaab also attacked a Kenyan quarry and killed 36 people who were not Muslims.

There are a number of reasons why al-Shabaab is attacking non-Muslims in Kenya, even though it’s a Somali extremist group. Shideler said the Garissa attack and other al-Shabaab attacks in Kenya are attempts to discredit the Kenyan government in the eyes of its Muslim population, which represents about 10 percent of Kenyans. After al-Shabaab conducts its attacks and the Kenyan government responds, Shideler said al-Shabaab’s propaganda arm tries to portray the government’s actions against Shabaab as being oppressive to Muslims.

“So when the Kenyan state acts against them, al-Shabaab responds by claiming that the Kenyan state is oppressing Muslims and they are defending them,” Shideler said.

Gartenstein-Ross also said the Garissa attack and the other large-scale al-Shabaab attacks on Kenyan non-Muslims in the last year are attempts to get Kenyan authorities to retaliate against Muslims in Kenya, thus causing the Muslim population to lose trust in the Kenyan government.

“The attacks are meant to serve as provocation. One clear purpose of the attacks is to get the Kenyan government to retaliate against the Muslim population, which they hope will drive the Muslim population into Shabaab’s hands,” he explained. “The third way that they seek to undermine the Kenyan government is by attacking the tourist industry and its economy.”

Another reason for the al-Shabaab attacks in Kenya, Gartenstein-Ross said, is to retaliate for the Kenyan government’s involvement in pushing the terrorist group out of its last urban Somali stronghold, the vital port city of Kismayo.

“One of the purposes of these attacks, in addition to discrediting the Kenyan government, is getting Kenya out of Somalia by imposing costs they hope is too high for Kenya to bear,” Gartenstein-Ross asserted.

Mo’Nique Exclusive: Actress Talks Tackling Homosexuality And Christianity in New ‘Blackbird’ Film

  • Mo'Nique and Julian Walker
    (Photo: 135 St Agency)
Mo’Nique and Julian Walker as Claire and Randy Rousseau in ‘Blackbird’ film.

Mo’nique has proven she does not shy away from tackling controversial roles including the abusive mother she played in the 2009 film “Precious” that helped her score an Oscar, but now she is looking to spark dialogue as the God fearing mother of a gay Christian son in the film “Blackbird.”

Christian Post Report – The film, executive produced by actress Mo’nique Hicks and her husband Sidney Hicks, may present a dichotomy for some Christian viewers with an opening scene that centers around main character Randy Rousseau dreaming about an intimate encounter with another young man in while they sing “Lord I want to be like Jesus in my heart.” Some of the scenes in the movie are brazen, exploring the intimate thoughts of a young man battling with his sexuality in between using Biblical scriptures to find resolve through prayer.

Randy’s mother Claire Rousseau, is not accepting of her son’s sexual orientation and also deals with a broken marriage along with the emotional distress that comes along with being unable to accept that her daughter has gone missing at a young age. Aside from executive producing the film, Mo’nique proves she is far removed from the label of comedian as she explores the varied emotions of Claire.

The actress told The Christian Post that she was drawn to Claire, a woman that she is all too familiar with.

“I can identify with Claire, I know Claire. When I read the script and I got to know that character, we just know that there are so many moms and dads out there struggling with that,” Mo’nique told CP. “I was really proud to play her and hoping that those mothers could see themselves on film and say, is that what I’m doing to my baby? Let me rethink it, let me love my baby differently.”

While Mo’nique is not a Christian, she did manage to take some things away from some of the faith-based themes in the film, centered in small Southern Baptist community. Despite the fact that her daughter was missing for years, Claire held on to the hope of her return when some lacked belief.

“I watched a woman have so much faith…She was so unwavering in what she believed about her daughter,” Mo’nique told CP. “So I took that away when you really believe, despite everything that’s stacked against you, look at what can happen.”

The details of what happens with the family’s varied issues unfold throughout the film, but some conservative Christian audiences may shy away from even watching the opening credits which are strung together with some intimate homosexual scenes. However, Mo’nique believes all people should give her movie a chance and withhold their judgement.

“The moment we truly practice that word called love, when we really understand what unconditional love is for our brothers and sisters is when we stop labeling, when we stop ridiculing, when we stop crucifying and really open up our hearts to say how would I want to be treated,” she told CP. “Is there anywhere in the Bible where it says, ‘thou shalt not judge?’..So all I would say to my beautiful brothers and sisters is thou shalt not judge.”

Still, Mo’nique’s character does explore the issues that her son’s homosexuality presents to her Christian beliefs. In one scene, Claire even blames her son for the fact that her young daughter has gone missing.

The devout Christian woman also teams up with the family’s preacher in an attempt to pray away his homosexual desires. Mo’nique hopes to showcase a realistic scenario that may be familiar to many families.

“It is a movie that’s showing you the dynamic of this family and the woman happens to be sold on what she’s taught,” the actress told CP. “So she believes her son is sinning, it’s a curse to be that way.”

Despite the homosexual and faith-based themes, the actress refuses to put a label on the project.

“I took away these amazing friendships of these teenage people, some were gay, some weren’t and no one judged each other. They loved each other for who they were,” the actress said. “I watched a man and a woman work through it and get through the storm and make a decision that they were going to make their marriage work. So it’s so much that you can take from this movie in my humble opinion without putting a label on it.”

While the film includes a cast of newcomers including Julian Walker who plays Randy, familiar faces are also part of the movie with singer Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgett playing Leslie and Isaiah Washington contributing as Randy’s father and Claire’s estranged husband Lance. Washington was once ousted from the popular ABC show “Grey’s Anatomy” after using homosexual slurs against a co-worker and even spoke out about having a hard time in the industry after the controversy.

However, the actor and activist said it was important to be a part of the coming of age film where he shares production and acting credits with Mo’Nique.

“It was important to bring this film to theaters and I was honored to produce and work with Mo’Nique, Julian Walker and Kevin Allesse on this film,” Washington said in a release obtained by The Christian Post.

The film was inspired by the Blackbird novel written by Larry Duplechan and was co-written by Rikki Beadle Blair and Patrik Ian Polk who also served as it’s director. Blackbird will hit theaters on April 24.

Pop artist Taylor Swift arrives at the 56th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California January 26, 2014.

Taylor Swift shared via social media today that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer.

On Thursday, the iconic pop star took to her personal Tumblr page to share the sad news about her mother, Andrea Finlay, in an emotional and heartfelt message. Shortly after the news broke, fans of Swift coined the Twitter hashtag “prayformamaswift” which later began trending.

“For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine,” wrote Swift. “She agreed, and went in to get checked … The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer.”

The 25-year-old “Blank Space” singer wanted to keep news of her mother’s health private, however; her mother insisted that she tell her millions of fans in a bid to raise cancer awareness.

“I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know,” Swift continued. “She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle.”

The country music singer went on to thank her fans and ended with “I hope and pray that you never get news like this.”

Stars and friends of Swift took to social networking site Twitter to offer the Grammy award-winning artist support.

“@taylorswift13 (heart symbol) stay strong. Love to your Mom.,” actress Mindy Kaling tweeted.

“Sending out prayers to @taylorswift13, Andrea & the whole Swift family,” country singer Rodney Atkins tweeted.

“Praying for @taylorswift13 and her family. Reminds me to tell my mom as often how much I love her! #PrayForMamaSwift,” singer Melody Thornton tweeted.

“RT @StandUp2C: Our thoughts are with supporter @taylorswift13 and her mum Andrea, who has been diagnosed with cancer,” Irish singer Nadine Coyle tweeted.

‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’: Bravo Offers NeNe Leakes a Massive Raise to Return for Season 8

NeNe Leakes Reuters/File

Christian Post Report – Real Housewives of Atlanta reality star NeNe Leakes

After NeNe Leakes reportedly had a miserable season on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” the reality star allegedly wanted nothing to do with the Bravo show anymore, as Leakes has barely been seen interacting with the other ladies on season 7. Instead, her storyline focused on her Broadway career and her other endeavors.

Last week, it was revealed that Leakes will be starring with Kim Zolciak in a new reality show called “NeNe and Kim: The Road to Riches,” and it was speculated that Leakes won’t be returning to RHOA next season. However, Bravo was allegedly desperate to keep her in the show that they offered her a hefty raise to stay on.

“NeNe absolutely hated Housewives this season,” a source told RadarOnline. “She hated almost all the other women and wanted off the show entirely.”

“But she is the most valuable person in the entire franchise and Bravo was going to do whatever she wanted to keep her. So they offered her the spin-off, which she gladly took,” the insider said.

The source adds that Bravo executives made it impossible for Leakes to turn down the offer.

“They want NeNe and so they offered her a huge raise. She already makes the most and now they’re giving her even more money per episode and her bonuses will be bigger too,” the source claimed.

Leakes reportedly made $1.5 million for season 7 and is currently the highest paid housewife in the entire franchise. She is followed by Bethenny Frankel, who was reportedly paid $1 million to return to “The Real Housewives of New York.”

Teresa Giudice was paid $700,000 for season 6 of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” while Eileen Davidson is the highest earner in “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” as she reportedly received $750,000 to be in season 5. The figures were initially reported by In Touch magazine in December 2014.

Warner Bros. to Make A ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie

Five Nights at Freddy's 3 Youtube Screenshot/ file

Christian Post Report – A screen grab from the Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 teaser trailer

Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” the popular game series created by Scott Cawthon.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the feature adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

The game takes place in Freddy’s Fazbear’s Pizza, where an animatronic animal band performs for kids by day and goes on murderous rampages by night. Players take on the role of a security guard, who is assigned the much-dreaded night shift. The goal of the game is to stay alive — the player has to stay in the guard’s room and monitor the robotic attackers on the security camera.

The sequels to “Five Nights at Freddy’s” go even further, as the second game is actually a prequel which takes place around the same time as “The Bite of 87”. The third game, which was released less than a month ago, takes place into the future, after Freddy’s is retooled into a horror attraction based on the horrifying events of the previous two games.

Movies based on video games tend to be a hit or miss, but if Warner Bros. does a great job on the first “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film, there’s a possibility that this could turn into a trilogy.

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying, and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith to The Hollywood Reporter.

“The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a large unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” said Cawthon.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 16: Episode 19 Recap ‘Granting Immunity’

Law & Order: SVU NBC/ Law & Order: SVU

Christian Post Report – Olivia takes Baby Noah to the pediatrician on Law & Order: SVU

Last Wednesday’s episode of “Law & Order: SVU” delved into the anti-vaccine debate as a group of teens get measles, and a mom named Trudy defends her decision to not get her child vaccinated.

Olivia and the rest of the team gets called to investigate a high school party that led to very inappropriate photos of underage kids going viral. The investigation hits a roadblock when the detectives can’t interview a single student due to an outbreak of measles.

They find out that the outbreak started because of a mother named Trudy Malko. She runs a lifestyle website that promotes herbal and alternative treatments. Trudy thinks that vaccination causes autism, so she got her doctor to falsify her son Gabriel’s immunization papers, which say that he was vaccinated. Trudy told the other moms about her views and had the doctor fake their children’s forms as well. Now, after 15 years, all of their children have measles.

Unfortunately, Olivia’s baby son Noah gets infected when he picks up the disease from Gabriel’s infant brother while in the pediatrician’s waiting room. Later, the detectives take Trudy to court for initiating a plan to hide the unvaccinated kids in school, so now it had to be shut down and contaminated.

In court, Trudy holds her own as a doctor takes the stand to warn against the dangers of measles. He said that it can lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, or death. The doctor said that Trudy’s son got measles while he was in Pacific Palisades, which in an under-vaccinated community. The CDC said that he was the first patient, and so far, there are 48 cases of measles in the area.

Trudy fires back and argues that some vaccines have potential side effects. She notes that after her nephew was vaccinated, he got diagnosed with autism and she never wanted the same thing to happen to her son. When asked if she’s aware that the CDC and other research groups have found no links between vaccines and autism, she said that she doesn’t trust those institutions.

Trudy was found guilty of reckless endangerment and was sentenced to three months in prison.

“Law & Order: SVU” airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.

‘Criminal Minds’ Season 10: Episode 19 Recap ‘Beyond Borders’

Criminal Minds CBS/ Criminal Minds

Christian Post Report – Criminal Minds episode Beyond Borders, with Anna Gunn as the International Unit’s law expert Lily Lambert, Emmy Award winner Gary Sinise as International Unit Chief Jack Garrett; Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner

This week’s episode of “Criminal Minds” marks the debut of the characters for the show’s upcoming spinoff featuring the international team of Unit Chief Jack Garrett (Gary Sinise), Lily Lambert (Anna Gunn), and Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) being called to assist the BAU when a family of four is abducted while on vacation in Barbados.

The Sullivans have just arrived in Barbados and though they’re all tired after the journey, they’re very happy to be there as it’s their first time to go on an international vacation. They miss the last scheduled shuttle to their resort, so they accept a ride from a van that has the word “shuttle” written on its side. The driver takes them to backroads and offers them water and tips about the area. When Colleen notices that her husband Greg and their kids, Allison and Nick, are all unconscious, she realizes that something is not right.

The BAU and the International team meet in Barbados, and they compare notes on the UnSub. They note that he has managed to escape the BAU as he killed a family in Florida a year before, and he also eluded the International Unit after he killed another family in Aruba. Kate and Reid, who stayed back, check out the Sullivan’s house and finding no evidence that the UnSub stalked them from there, the team deduce that he has a type and that he’s an annihilator. The annihilator is usually a father who has lost or killed his own family.

Meanwhile, the UnSub forces the Sullivans to board a boat and through flashbacks, glimpses of his own childhood abuse are seen. He separates Greg from his family and unleashes the brunt of his cruelty on him, just like his own father used to do on him. He hits Greg with a belt and puts his head in the sink.

Later, the team finds the UnSub on a security footage from a gas station. To know his identity, Jack suggests looking into solved cases which involve teens killing their families. They learn that his name is Jerry Tidwell, and that his father abused him and videotaped the abuse, but spared his stepmother and stepsiblings. At age 15, he massacred his family in a hotel room. He was declared insane and was placed in an institution until he was 21. When Jerry got out of the institution, he lived with his uncle in Aruba, and when the uncle died, Jerry inherited his fishing charter business.

With this lead, the teams make their way to the boat’s location. Jerry throws Nick overboard and holds Allison hostage. JJ tells Allison to drop and they take Jerry down. They find Nick safe and sound in a lifeboat.

“Criminal Minds” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
