The Atlanta Falcons Are Fined, Lose Draft Pick

The Falcons have been fined and will lose a draft pick for pumping in fake crowd noise during NFL games

Christian Post Report – The Atlanta Falcons learned yesterday what their punishment would be for one of their team personnel pumping fake crowd noise into their stadium during NFL games. The league dropped he hammer of the Flacons fining them $350,000, and the Falcons will have to forfeit a 2016 fifth round draft pick. On top of that Falcons President Rich McKay has been suspended from his Chairmanship of the Competition committee for four month to being in April.

The league did state that they found no evidence that McKay was aware of the infractions and the entirety of the blame is falling on former Falcons Director of Event Marketing Roddy White.

“Our review also determined that Falcons ownership and senior executives, including team President Rich McKay, were unaware of Mr. White’s use of an audio file with artificial crowd noise,” the NFL said in a statement. “However, Mr. McKay, as the senior club executive overseeing game operations, bears some responsibility for ensuring that team employees comply with league rules.”

Falcons’ owner Arthur Blank also issued a statement.

“What took place was wrong and nowhere near the standards by which we run our business. Anytime there are actions that compromise the integrity of the NFL or threaten the culture of our franchise, as this issue did, they will be dealt with swiftly and strongly,” he said.

Blank also said his team will not appeal the fine and look to put this embarrassing event behind them.

With the $350,000 fine to the Flacons and the $250,000 fine of the Cleveland Browns there is now a footprint of what a potential fine for the New England Patriots and Deflategate. Since it involved game day operations is now seems very likely that the Patriots (if found guilty) will face large monetary fine and the loss of a future draft pick.

KickassTorrents Down, Blocked News: BitTorrent Sites EZTV Blocked in Europe in Online Piracy Crackdown

Christian Post Report – Denmark has successfully blocked popular file sharing sites like Kicka–Torrents, Rarbg, EZTV, and other file sharing portals after copyright infringement complaints were leveled against them.

KickA–Torrents, Rarbg, EZTV and dozens of other file sharing portals, have been effectively blocked in Europe after Denmark put a ban on the BitTorrent sites following allegations of pirated downloads made by a copyright enforcement group.

After unsuccessfully attempting to block The Pirate Bay this year, Denmark, who is spearheading the fight against torrent sharing portals, set their sights on other widely used peer-to-peer file sharing websites, including IsoHunt, TubePlus and dozens of others that provide streaming movies and television shows, as well as torrent downloads for millions of users around the world.

These file sharing sites were shut down based on complaints from Rights Alliance, a copyright watchdog that filed their request with a Danish Court to force ISPs to block access to sites that have been hosting or linking to the illicit content sharing providers.

Rights Alliance has been dogged in their fight to educate Internet users regarding copyright infringement and the issues created due to piracy. They have stressed their goal is to steer the public in the right direction in terms of online entertainment, and to lead them away from sites offering pirated content.

BitTorrent portals have established a protocol of switching from one domain to the next to stay a step ahead of ISP blockades and website seizures. According to insiders, this strategy, successfully adopted by The Pirate Bay, as well as other online torrent distribution groups, have effectively helped these sites amass even more users.

“Blocking is the greatest thing that can happen to your site,” one BitTorrent site administrator revealed in a TorrentFreak report. “Whoever is blocking the sites is actually doing us a favor by telling the users that they can’t open the site, thus making the users want to open the site even more.”

A day after the seizure, Kicka–.so switched to an alternative proxy, making their downloadable content available once more to their millions of users despite their being one of the primary targets of the Danish copyright infringement takedown. EZTV has also been reported to have returned to its active state online.

Pope Francis Makes a Biblical Case for the Environment

Pope Francis Makes a Biblical Case for the Environment

Pope Francis is set to release an encyclical letter which calls the environment the “ultimate pro-life, pro-poor, pro-family” issue that Christians are called to engage in. The Vatican has said that this is not a political statement, but one stemming from biblical teaching.

Christian Post Report – Catholic News Service reported that Pope Francis is finishing up his encyclical on the environment, set for publication early in the summer, which is set to build on the statements of his predecessors who have urged Christians to focus more on preserving and caring for the environment.

Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said that Francis’ pro-environment initiative is not part of a political agenda, but based in biblical teachings.

Should Fantasy Sports Be Considered Gambling?

Pittsburgh Pirates (Photo: Reuters/John Sommers II)

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Garrett Jones (46) celebrates with Jordy Mercer (10) after hitting a solo home run against the Cincinnati Reds during the eighth inning of their MLB National League baseball game at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 29, 2013.

Christian Post Report – This is one of those arguments about where the line gets drawn. The new way to play fantasy sports is daily fantasy, where a player drafts a fantasy team for one day and then wins prizes or money based on the performance of their roster. It is a lot more popular that season long fantasy leagues where injuries often hinder users. Fantasy sports is popular and a lot of people play them and many of them win money playing.

Does that make it gambling?

The world we live is much different than the one of the 1980ss when Major League Baseball banned Pete Rose for life for betting on the game. The climate has shifted, and gambling is more a part of normal society now, or at least more accepted. In the U.S. virtually every person lives within a few hours of a casino, and we even have a MLB owner whose wife owns a casino (Marion Illitch, wife of Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Illitch, owns the Motor City Casino of Detroit).

So it should surprise no one that the big sports leagues are looking to cash in on the fantasy market. Since they cannot own casinos outright, fantasy sports is the premiere way to take advantage of the action. Major League Baseball bought a stake in Draft Kings and the NBA has partnered with Fan Duel.

The leagues should look to increase their revenues where they can. However, owning what is essentially a gambling service while keeping Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson out of the sport (and Hall of Fame) is a rather tough position to defend.

Detroit Tigers MLB 2015 Roster News, Rumors: Bruce Rondon Might Not Make It

Bruce Rondon reuters.com

How much of an impact will Bruce Rondon have on the Detroit Tigers bullpen?

Christian Post Report – The biggest question mark about the 2015 Detroit Tigers is the bullpen. Now that manager Brad Ausmus has stared that Joe Nathan will be the closer, at least to start the season, one of those mysterious has been put to bed. Now the team must decide what to do with Bruce Rondon, who is one year removed from Tommy John surgery and still trying to battle his way onto the big league roster.

Rondon has been in the team’s plans for a number of years now. Two years ago he was named the closer in the off season only to not make the team out of spring training. Now the team is discussing whether or not he would benefit from starting the season with the Triple A Toledo Mudhens while he works on his control. The strength is there, but Rondon is not fooling anyone in spring training and may need some time to get sharp again.

“To be fair to Rondon, the reason he has struggled this spring could very well be due to the surgery he underwent in March 2014. His velocity was surprisingly strong right from the start this spring. But velocity doesn’t guarantee anyone success on the mound or even a spot on the roster,” Chris Lott wrote for MLive.

The Tigers do have options. If they decide Rondon needs more time they can come north with Angel Nesbitt, Joba Chamberlain, Al Albuquerque as their right handers with Nathan as the closer and Joakim Soria as the set up man. That would leave room for two lefties. Tom Gorzelanny has likely tied up one of those spots leaving the team to decide between Ian Krol, Blaine Hardy, and Kyle Ryan.

The Tigers spent the off season bringing in bullpen arms and it looks like that was a wise move.

Alleged Cellphone Footage Shows Germanwings Flight 9525’s Last Moments Before Crash, Passengers Heard Screaming ‘My God’ in Several Languages

Flags representing some of the nationalities of the victims are seen as family members and relatives gather at the momorial, near the crash site of a Germanwings Airbus A320, in Le Vernet, in French Alps, March 29, 2015. The co-pilot suspected of deliberately crashing a passenger plane in the French Alps told his girlfriend he was in psychiatric treatment, and that he was planning a spectacular gesture that everyone would remember, the German daily Bild reported on Saturday.

Christian Post Report – Alleged cellphone footage of the final moments from Germanwings Flight 9525 that was deliberately crashed last week, killing all 150 people on board, records people screaming “My God” in several different languages. While investigators have said that no such footage has been found, both German and French newspapers have sworn to have seen it.

Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin told CNN on Wednesday that “so far no videos were used in the crash investigation,” responding to the media reports of the footage. He added, however, that “a person who has such a video needs to immediately give it to the investigators.”

Both the German daily Bild and the French newspaper Paris Match have claimed to have seen the cellphone footage allegedly showing the final moments of the flight, which crashed in the French Alps.

“One can hear cries of ‘My God’ in several languages,” Paris Match reported. “Metallic banging can also be heard more than three times, perhaps of the pilot trying to open the cockpit door with a heavy object. Towards the end, after a heavy shake, stronger than the others, the screaming intensifies. Then nothing.”

Julian Reichelt, editor-in-chief of Bild online, added: “It is a very disturbing scene.”

The 150 people on board represented 18 different nationalities, though most were German and Spanish citizens. The flight had been en route from Barcelona to Düsseldorf.

The newspapers claim that the video was recovered from a phone at the wreckage site, but have not published it online.

Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz is believed to have deliberately locked the captain out of the cockpit and crashed the plane down into the French Alps in a murder-suicide.

Investigators have discovered that he had been treated for “suicidal tendencies” before receiving his pilot’s license, but the information was not made known to his employer or the authorities because of doctor-patient confidentiality.

Torn-up doctor’s notes were also found in his home, stating that he was unfit for work on the day of the crash.

It was Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin who first told the media last week of Lubitz’s actions, based on the recovered black box audio recording.

“The most plausible interpretation is that the co-pilot, through a voluntary act, had refused to open the cabin door to let the captain in. He pushed the button to trigger the aircraft to lose altitude. He operated this button for a reason we don’t know yet, but it appears that the reason was to destroy this plane,” the French prosecutor said.

“When you are responsible for 150 people, I don’t call it a suicide,” he added about the co-pilot.

BBC News noted that Thomas Winkelmann, chief executive of Germanwings, and Carsten Spohr, head of the parent company Lufthansa, have meanwhile visited the crash site in the French Alps, where recovery operations are still taking place.

“Everybody at Lufthansa knows how hard this work has been… We are very grateful,” Spohr told rescue workers.

“We know the burden that has been put on this area, where nothing is the same anymore,” he added.

“We will do everything we can to turn this place into a place of mourning for relatives of the victims, and to restore this beautiful countryside.”

  • One of the two men whom North Korea identified as being South Korean and accused of being a spy for South Korea attends a news conference in Pyongyang, in this undated photo released by North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang March Christian Post Report – 26, Christian Post Report – 2015. North Korea said late on Thursday it had arrested two South Koreans based in the Chinese border city of Dandong, accusing them of spying for South Korea. The North’s official KCNA news agency showed images of two middle-aged men it identified as Kim Kuk Gi and Choe Chun Gil speaking at a news conference in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

One of two South Korean men that were detained late last year by the North Korean government on charges of espionage has been identified as a Presbyterian pastor who has dedicated much of the last 13 years to missionary work benefiting North Korean defectors in China.

After a North Korean state news agency announced last week that the country was holding two South Korean men accused of espionage, the General Assembly of Presbyterian Churches in Korea, a Seoul-based Protestant association, identified Kim Kuk Gi last Friday as one of their own registered pastors and demanded that he be released.

“He was carrying out missionary works for North Korean defectors in [the Chinese port city of] Dandong,” a representative from the Presbyterian assembly told Voice of America News. “He bought noodle makers and tofu machines to send to the North, as well as sewing machines.”

The other South Korean detainee has been identified as Choe Chun Gil. South Korean authorities tried to deliver a written request for the two men to be released, however, North Korean officials refused to accept the request.

The North Korean official media agency, Korean Central News Agency, reported that both detainees were taken into custody because they have been accused of working for Seoul’s National Intelligence Service in Dandong on “smear campaign” against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

“They zealously took part in the anti-DPRK smear campaign of the U.S. imperialists and the puppet group of traitors to isolate and blockade the DPRK in [the] international arena by labeling it ‘a country printing counterfeit notes’ and ‘sponsor of terrorism’ while pulling it over its human rights issue,” KCNA reported.

In an interview with the Seoul-based news agency, The Chosunilbo, A GAPCK spokesman detested North Korea’s claim that Kim was involved in espionage and stated that he was originally sent to Dandong in Christian Post Report – 2003 strictly for missionary purposes.

“Kim operated a shelter for North Korean defectors and preached but had nothing to do with espionage,” the spokesman asserted.

In a statement that was reported by Christianity Daily, GAPCK provided further detail on who Kim’s ministry in Dandong was helping and contended that North Korea has clearly violated international human rights laws by detaining the pastor against his will.

“Kim Kuk Gi was sent as a missionary… to Dandong in China in Christian Post Report – 2003, and since then, he has been operating a ‘shelter for refugees,’ and has been taking care of refugees, Kotjebi (North Korean homeless children) and Korean immigrants living in China,” the GAPCK stated. “In treating Kim in this way, North Korea is directly violating international customs as well as the basic worth of human rights of people.”

“Please join us in prayer for Pastor Kim’s safe return,” the GAPCK statement added.

Christianity Daily further reported that a Chinese source revealed that Kim was contacted by North Korean authorities around December Christian Post Report – 2014 and was invited to come into the North Korean Capital of Pyongyang.

The North Korean government similarly invited Canadian Presbyterian megachurch pastor, Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim, to come to Pyongyang on January 31. After receiving the invitation, the pastor went missing and it was confirmed in early March that he was and still is being detained by North Korean authorities.

In October Christian Post Report – 2013, North Korea jailed another South Korean missionary, Kim Jeong Wook, who was also charged with espionage.

For the 13th consecutive year, North Korea tops Open Doors USA’s annual World Watch List of countries with the worst treatment of Christians, topping countries like Iraq, Syria and Nigeria where militant groups barbarically behead and torture Christians because of their faith.

“The god-like worship of the leader, Kim Jong-Un, and his predecessors leaves little room for any other religions and Christians face unimaginable pressure in every sphere of life,” Open Doors noted in its Christian Post Report – 2015 World Watch List. “Anyone discovered engaging in unauthorized religious activity is subject to arrest, arbitrary detention, disappearance, torture and/or execution. Those Christians who attempt to return to North Korea from China are sentenced to life in prison or executed.”

The World Watch List estimates that nearly 50,000 to 70,000 Christians are imprisoned in labor camps in North Korea, while many other North Korean Christians are forced to flee to China due to lack of food.
