Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook

Christian Post Report – The Oklahoma City Thunder will try to complete their season series sweep against the Los Angeles Lakers when they meet at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in the NBA. The game will commence on March 24, 2015, and tip-off is at 8 p.m. ET.

Oklahoma is trying to secure the last spot in the Western Conference playoff picture, as they are currently eighth in the group and hold a 2.5-game advantage on the Phoenix Suns.

The Thunder are on a three-game win streak as they have beaten the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat at home. In those games, Russell Westbrook has continued to make his case as the league MVP as he averaged 28 points per game while pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out close to 14 assists a game. With the absence of key players such as Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka, the electrifying point guard has carried the load and his teammates have responded to the big task they are given.

As for the Lakers, they are officially out of the playoffs and are now essentially fighting to avoid the bottom of the West. They are currently sporting a 18-50 record and only lead the Minnesota Timberwolves by 3.5 games.

L.A. broke their four game losing streak with a big 101-87 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Jeremy Lin broke out in that game as he scored 29 points while shooting 10-of-16 from the field. He also pulled down five rebounds and five assists as the Lakers outplayed the young Sixers squad. In that win, the Lakers scored 48 percent from the field while out-rebounding the Sixers 52-39.

However, things will be different as they face Oklahoma City, as shown by their 108-101 and 104-103 losses at Staples Center.

In OKC’s win earlier this month, newcomers DJ Augustin and Enes Kanter performed well scoring 18 and 16, respectively. Nick Collison and Jeremy Lamb also provided a spark off the bench as the Thunder won even without Westbrook in the lineup.

Arizona Coyotes vs Detroit Red Wings Live Stream Free: Watch Online NHL Hockey

The struggling Arizona Coyotes will try to break their winless streak as they face the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena in the NHL. The puck drops on March 24, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Christian Post Report – Arizona are at the bottom of the Pacific Division with only 50 points so far, only slightly better than the Atlantic Division’s Buffalo Sabres who are at 47.

Smith Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Smith of the Arizona Coyotes.

They have not won in their last eight matches and have lost 18 of their last 19 so far.

The Coyotes have found it tough to score as they’ve only registered eight goals in the last eight matches. Even worse is that they’ve been playing without Martin Hanzal and Mikkel Boedker for much of the calendar year as both suffered injuries that have ruled them out for the season.

Meanwhile, Detroit have fared only slightly better as they have won three of their last eight matches. They recently beat the St. Louis Blues 2-1 after an overtime goal from Justin Abdelkader. Their home record has dipped as well, after winning six straight as hosts they’ve only won three of their next seven.

As far as injuries, three of their stars are listed as day-to-day as Johan Franzen is still recovering from a concussion he suffered early in January. Similarly, Jonas Gustavsson picked up the same problem early in March. Finally, Pavel Datsyuk is sidelined after a lower body injury less than a week ago and is a game-day decision.

Their first meeting of the season ended in a 3-1 win for the Red Wings, as Riley Sheahan opened the scoring in the second period with a power-play goal. Tomas Tatar scored with three minutes left in the game to possibly put the game to bed but Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a minute later to give the Coyotes life.

Detroit finally restored the two-goal cushion and eventually won the game when Darren Helm scored only after 40 seconds of the Coyotes goal.

‘Captain America 3’ Release Date, Plot News: Civil War Comic Book Storyline to Be Featured

A host of updates have been circulating online for the past few months regarding the plot development of the highly anticipated superhero movie “Captain America: Civil War.” Slated to begin shooting this April 1, another piece of information regarding the title surfaced and this time it includes a plot synopsis.

Captain America: Civil War Wikimedia Commons/Image

Christian Post Report – Collider revealed what appears to be the “unofficial” summary for “Captain America 3,” which was reportedly handed out to the main cast and extras.

“Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies,” the summary reads.

This could further justify previous speculations that the third installment will use the Civil War storyline in the Marvel comic books.

The story arc would deal heavily on the Superhero Registration Act, a new policy from the U.S. government requiring all superheroes to identify themselves and submit to the regulation imposed upon them by the ruling body.

This would eventually create a rift between pro-Government entities led by Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and the anti-policy group spearheaded by Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans).

Returning after their success at the Winter Soldier, directors Anthony and Joe Russo will be spearheading the project which, as reported, is slated to open in theatres this May 6, 2016.

‘Scarface’ Remake Movie Moving Forward With LA Setting and Mexican Drug Cartel Storyline

The “Scarface” remake is coming out of “development hell.” After so many years in the back burner, a remake of the classic film is being pushed by Universal Studios. The studio has reportedly signed Jonathan Herman, of Straight Outta Compton, to rewrite the script for the remake.

The remake has long been in discussion that several drafts of the script have been developed, earlier penned by David Ayer and Paul Attanasio. The new film will have a “new and original take” on the story of immigrant Tony Montana, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

Actors Al Pacino (L) and Steven Bauer arrive at the Blu-ray disc launch party for their 1983 classic film “Scarface” in Los Angeles, California August 23, 2011.

In the 1983 film of Brian de Palma, starring Al Pacino, Montana is a Cuban immigrant who arrives in Miami with nothing but climbs to the top of the Cuban drug-smuggling ring. The new film will update the story, with Los Angeles as the setting, and the Mexican drug cartels as the crime world in question.

According to another report in Screen Rant, the new film will use “the same narrative setup recycled from previous iterations: a young man from humble beginnings climbs his way to the top of a drug-fueled criminal empire, through violent means and his own willingness to indulge in psychotic behavior.” However, in keeping up with the times, the new movie will “paint a more sympathetic, yet nonetheless critical portrait of its anti-hero.”

Pablo Larrain, known for his directorial work in “No” and “Tony Manero,” will be directing the film. It was previously reported that David Yates of “Harry Potter” will helm this project. Marc Shmuger is joined by Scott Stube, Dylan Clark and 1983 Scarface producer Marty Bregman as the film’s producers.

The 1983 film was also a remake of a 1932 film with the same title, which was about American bootlegging and the mob.

There is no news yet about casting although some reports are already speculating on possible leads, such as Oscar Isaac and Edgar Ramirez.

Christian Post Report – In a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup finals, the Los Angeles Kings visit the Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers in the NHL. The match is on March 24, 2015 and the puck drops by 7 p.m. ET.

Last year’s championship showcase ended in a 4-1 series win for the Kings, and the Rangers surely still have that in mind.

And in their first meeting of the season, New York won 4-3 in California.

In that match, Los Angeles took an early lead after Tanner Pearson opened the scoring in only the fifth minute of the match. The Kings doubled the lead less than two minutes after as Justin Williams’ slap shot beat Cameron Talbot. However, Dan Boyle cut the lead in half in the 11th minute of the period, before the Rangers rallied in the second frame behind three goals from Kevin Klein, Martin St. Louis and Lee Tempniak in a span of ten minutes.

Williams scored his second for the Kings in the third period as they tried to mount a comeback but with only four minutes left in the game it was a little too late.

At the moment, the Kings are without Pearson who is slated as week-to-week after an ankle injury early in the calendar year. Jarret Stoll is also sidelined and listed as day-to-day after an upper body injury he got in the second week of March.

For the Rangers, Klein and St. Louis are also out of action as the former injured his arm and is said to return by April, while the latter suffered a lower body injury last week.

Henrik Lundqvist is out indefinitely after a neck injury while the Kings are without lava Voynov for an unknown period of time due to a suspension.

Megachurch Pastor James MacDonald: Focus on Jesus or End Up in a Ditch

James MacDonald (Photo: The Christian Post)

Dr. James S. MacDonald, senior pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel, speaks at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastors Conference in New Orleans, June 18, 2012.

“The number one reason why Christians get in the ditch: We got our eyes off Jesus, and we got our eyes on people,” megachurch pastor James MacDonald told his Chicago-area congregation recently in a message entitled “New Power for the Distracted,” which can be seen here.

MacDonald delivered a message to attendees of Harvest Bible Chapel, a multi-site church that now stands at more than 13,000 people in seven different locations, that had one point: focus.

The Chicago-area pastor used a variety of examples to illustrate how Christians get into ditches during their walk with God, in the process losing their focus. MacDonald described a person whose name he couldn’t share, but someone whom his entire congregation knew. He described this unknown person as angry, negative, and isolated.

“This person is you, or me,” revealed MacDonald, “within five years, if we don’t take this content to our heart as a protection of our inevitable future.”

He warned the congregation that if they didn’t get this message right, that they would find themselves off the road of following Christ, and in a ditch, upside down with the wheels off. In more than 30 years of ministry, MacDonald said he knew plenty of people who loved Jesus, but didn’t focus their lives, which led them to a ditch that is very hard to get out of.

The pastor then explained how distractions lead us to not hear the voice of Jesus. He illustrated by asking a man by the name of Landon to talk on stage without a microphone in front of the congregation. Meanwhile, MacDonald walked away, ignoring him. MacDonald used the demonstration as an example of how apparent it is when a person isn’t listening because of distractions. He used the Apostle Peter as a specific example of a case of someone not hearing Jesus’ voice, as he cited the final verses of John when Peter was distracted with wondering who might betray Jesus. He misread Jesus to say that the Apostle John would never die, which isn’t what Jesus said.

Peter was beginning to tune out Jesus, MacDonald asserted. “Somewhere in there, Peter got off of the listening train.”

He drew parallels to humans losing sight of Jesus to when Peter began to sink while walking to Jesus on water and losing sight of Jesus when he saw the wind and the waves. “The moment you get your eyes off Jesus on anything else, you start to sink.”

Referring to John 21:21, he said that Peter asked, “Lord, what about this man?” in reference to who was going to betray Jesus, which was the equivalent to driving off the road and ending up in the ditch. He said that when people ask similar questions about other people, that that is a colossal distraction.

MacDonald started Harvest Bible Chapel with his wife, Kathy, and a small group of ministry partners in 1988. He also has a Bible-teaching television and radio broadcast ministry called Walk in the Word, and founded the church-planting ministry Harvest Bible Fellowship, which has helped establish more than 100 churches across North America.

In 2008, MacDonald was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and had to undergo 45 radiation treatments before his PSA levels dropped. He has been cancer free since 2009.

Hillsong to Debut New Movie Trailer as Band Member Says Film Offers ‘New Perspective’ on Christianity

Hillsong (Photo: Courtesy/GraceHillMedia)

Joel Houston and Taya Smith rehearse for the Los Angeles Forum concert while filming Hillsong movie “Let Hope Rise”

Christian Post Report – Hillsong United’s Jad Gillies said recently that his band’s forthcoming film offers a ‘new perspective’ on what it means to be a modern-day believer. He also hopes the film can draw more people to the church.

On March 25, an exclusive new trailer of “Hillsong — Let Hope Rise” is set to be released ahead of the film’s premiere and Gillies shared his excitement.

“My hope is that the film gives people new perspective of what it actually looks like to believe in who Jesus is and what it means to live a life that reflects His acceptance and love,” the worship leader said.

The film chronicles the journey of the Australian worship band, which began in 1998 as a pastime for youth at church and has since grown into a global sensation. Gillies hopes the film can spark widespread interest in church service and worship.

“I hope it encourages those who have never been into a church that perhaps church could be a safe place for them, somewhere that they could feel at home, encouraged and inspired to do great things,” he shared.

The Dove Award-winning band is led by Joel Houston, the son of Hillsong founders and pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston. All 11 band members are either volunteers or employees of the church.

The film is produced by Jonathan Bock of Grace Hill Media and Matthew Weaver and Ben Field. Phil Cooke of Cooke Pictures has been named as an executive producer along with Wayne Hughes Jr. and Greg Campbell of Cantinas Entertainment, who’s financing the project.

In Jan., Warner Bros. abruptly pulled the film from its distribution and Relativity Studios, the third-largest mini-major film studio in the world, will now distribute the project.

“We are excited to share ‘Hillsong — Let Hope Rise’ with moviegoers across the United States,” said Matt Alvarez, who’s overseeing the project for Relativity. “Chronicling this Christian band’s humble beginnings to their present day worldwide ministry is truly remarkable and worthy of their story being told on the big screen.”

In 2013, Hillsong United’s third studio album Zion peaked at No. 1 on Christian album charts in Australia, the U.S. and the United Kingdom. Last year, the band scored its first-ever American Music Awards nod in the Contemporary Inspirational Artist category.

Houston, who’s co-pastor of Hillsong NYC, previously told The Christian Post that the band’s goal is never to write “cool” music, but rather to share the story of Jesus.

“I’m not trying to write songs that are cool or hip, or that keep up to date with whatever is out there on the radio,” he said. “We’re genuinely just trying to write songs that are honest reflections of a creative God and music that helps people connect with God.”

Hillsong, which is headquartered in Sydney, has churches around the world with more than 100,000 weekly attendees, including thriving congregations in New York and Los Angeles.

“Hillsong — Let Hope Rise” is set to be released soon.

English actress Sophie Turner, who was cast to star as the young Jean Grey in “X-Men Apocalypse,” has announced her version will be played with a twist.

Christian Post Report – “Games of Thrones” House Stark actress, Sophie Turner, who signed on in January to play a young Jean Grey in “X-Men Apocalypse” has said she will be playing her role with a different twist to the character that X-Men fans have come to expect.

“Famke did it so well. I just want to kind of bring a bit more a naivety to her,” Turner, 19, told Digital Spy. “I can’t really say much. I’ll give her a little twist.”

Turner, who has her own massive “GoT” fanbase for her role as Sansa Stark in the last four seasons of the critically acclaimed HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones,” says she feels comfortable with having a loyal fanbase, and hopes to make followers of the telepathic mutant proud with her portrayal.

With “X-Men Apocalypse,” due to hit theaters on May 27, 2016, there have been speculations over Jean Grey’s character returning after she made an appearance towards the end of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

While Dutch actress Famke Janssen has played the telepath in all three initial X-Men films, as well as cameos in “The Wolverine” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” she has not signed on for the upcoming mutant film, as the role called for a younger version of Jean Grey.

The film, a sequel to “Days of Future Past,” will see the return of James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

Newcomers to the franchise will portray younger versions of the original X-Men, including Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse.
