Franklin Graham Warns Chick-fil-A not to Drift Left, Requests Prayer for the Company

Evangelist Franklin Graham asked his social media followers over the weekend to pray for Chick-fil-A, referencing “concern and criticism” about the company’s charitable giving and upcoming “important decisions” by its executives.

As of Monday morning, the Facebook post had 122,000 likes, 15,000 shares and 15,000 comments. Graham also posted a shorter version of the message on Twitter.

The Chick-fil-A Foundation in November announced a new donation strategy it said will “provide additional clarity and impact with the causes it supports.” Beginning in 2020, the Chick-fil-A Foundation will support Junior Achievement, Covenant House International and local food banks.

The Foundation will no longer support the Salvation Army or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes – the two organizations that were at the heart of LGBTQ protests of Chick-fil-A in recent years.

“Chick-fil-A has been in the news a lot, and every day it seems there’s a new article about their charitable giving,” Graham wrote on Facebook Saturday. “There has been a lot of concern and criticism, and maybe rightly so. For Christian schools, businesses, and organizations, there is always a danger of drifting to the left. It is my sincere hope that Chick-fil-A will not allow that to happen. With the majority of corporate America caving to the LGBTQ agenda, Chick-fil-A…

Stalemate in Israel Folau mediation over dismissal for anti-gay social media post

Folau is asking for AUS$14 million compensation after he was sacked over a social media post about sin and hell.

His Instagram post in April listed a number of sins – including adultery and homosexuality warning “hell awaits” those who commit them.

Rugby Australia claim he had committed a high level breach of his contract.

In a video posted on his website before mediation, Folau said: “I understand that not everyone shares my faith and some find it difficult to reconcile with their own beliefs.

“I want to be clear that I only share passages from the Bible as a gesture of love.

“We pray that we might all find redemption and peace in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ as we head to today’s mediation, we also ask that He watches over us, so that both parties might realise the courage to uphold the truth.”

Mediation will now continue on Wednesday.

Church called to speak up on behalf of millions of people trapped in slavery

The charity is urging “abolitionists to rise up” and for the “church once again to take a lead” in the fight against slavery.

Today, there are more people in slavery than there were in the 200-year transatlantic slave trade combined and every minute two children are sold into slavery, according to IJM.

IJM’s UK CEO David Westlake told Premier it is a multi-billion pound industry: “It is a £116 billion a year industry that we are all funding. We may not be buying directly from slave-owners themselves, but slavery is hidden in the supply chains of hundreds of the products we use every day.

“Everything from t-shirts, to make-up, smartphones, rice, chocolate, and jewellery- all of these can have slavery in their supply chains. Even here in the UK, there are men, women and children enslaved in the sex industry, in nail bars, cannabis farms and car washes.”

Westlake said International Day for the Abolition of Slavery looks forward to “the abolition of all slavery. Decisive action has been taken to end slavery, most famously Wilberforce and the end of the transatlantic slave trade nearly 200 years ago.”

Westlake said the day provides us a moment to stop and think and ask ourselves the question, “can we live up to our forebearers of 200 years ago and bring an end to the slave trade?”

The Home Office estimates there are around 13,000 slaves in the UK, but many charities…

Alleged Sex Abuse Victims File Suit against the Catholic Church, Claim They Were Forced to Take Unfair Settlement

Alleged Sex Abuse Victims File Suit against the Catholic Church, Claim They Were Forced to Take Unfair Settlement

Two cousins from Mississippi have filed a lawsuit against the Catholic Church, after they say they were forced to accept cheaper settlements in their cases regarding abuse they suffered as children.

La Jarvis Love and his cousin, Joshua Love, filed the lawsuit last week in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Chrsitian Post reports.

The men claimed former Franciscan missionaries, Paul West and the late Don Lucas, abused them while the children attended a Catholic school in Mississippi.

The men also said West abused them while he drove them to New York for a summer camp and while they stayed in a hotel in Manhattan.

According to the Washington Post, the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi offered a settlement of about $15,000 to each cousin to remain silent about the alleged abuse.

In 2002, Catholic Church bishops said they would stop using nondisclosure settlements.

“The confidentiality provisions contained in the disputed agreements were intended to silence” the two men “in direct contradiction” to the U.S. Catholic Church’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the lawsuit says.

John F. Hawkins, a Mississippi attorney who also represents the Love cousins, said: “These guys have never received anything resembling justice. I’m hoping this lawsuit…

President Trump Pledges to Donate His 3rd Quarter Salary to Fight the Opioid Crisis

President Trump Pledges to Donate His 3rd Quarter Salary to Fight the Opioid Crisis

The White House has announced that President Trump will donate his third quarter salary to the fight against opioid addiction. The pay contribution, which totals some $100,000, will be paid to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health and has been allocated “to continue the ongoing fight against the opioid crisis,” according to a government official.

By law, Trump has to be paid while in office. However, acknowledging his vast personal wealth accumulated prior to entering the White House, he has pledged to give away his Presidential earnings to various government-mandated causes. According to the Associated Press, the President donated his second-quarter salary to the Surgeon General’s office.

The President and First Lady have taken an impassioned stance against opioid addiction, vowing to commit huge government resources to tackling the crisis, which claims tens of thousands of lives per year.

On Tuesday, Melania Trump delivered an address in partnership with The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and as part of the administration’s efforts to raise awareness of the drug crisis.

“Promoting education and awareness on these issues will always be one of my top priorities,” the First Lady told the crowd of highschoolers and middle schoolers assembled at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. “I am in this fight with you and I am…

From ‘Christmas Parade’ to ‘Winter Parade’: Two ways to experience the power of Christ this Christmas season

Charleston, West Virginia, has held an old-fashioned downtown Christmas Parade for many years. In early October, the city’s official Facebook page announced: “The Charleston Winter Parade will begin at the corner of the Kanawha Boulevard and Capitol Street.”

Their recently elected mayor made the change to signal that their city was a place for people of all faiths and cultures. However, that is not how many residents saw her decision. City council members learned about the name change when everyone else did. Then they began hearing from constituents who were upset.

On the third day after the mayor’s announcement, she changed her position and the Christmas Parade was back on.

A “Capitol Holiday Tree” and “Merry Coffee” cups

Divisions over Christmas seem to be escalating as our culture’s secularism escalates.

Here are two examples in the news: Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has renamed the state’s Christmas tree the “Capitol Holiday Tree.” And Starbucks recently unveiled new seasonal cups for the holidays, none of which uses the word Christmas.

Two of them say “Merry Coffee.” Each cup’s sleeve displays the words, “We wish you a merry coffee.” (A Starbucks spokesman noted that the company still offers a “Christmas blend” and that their stores will be decorated during the holidays with Christmas colors and candy cane ribbon.)

It is a cultural fact that secularism and relativism go hand in hand. In order to move away from historic religious truth and orthodox morality, secularists must begin by redefining truth and morality as personal and subjective. Once they convince us that “truth” is what we believe it to be, the way is clear to rename and redefine those religious beliefs and practices they find objectionable.

But, as John Adams wisely noted, “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter…

Church attack leaves 14 dead in Burkina Faso

President Roch Marc Christian Kabore said he condemned “the barbaric attack” in the town of Hantoukoura.

He said several people also were wounded.

In a tweet, Mr Kabore offered his “deepest condolences to the bereaved families” and wished “a speedy recovery to the wounded”.

Islamic extremists have been active in Burkina Faso since 2015.

Jihadists have attacked police stations and churches across the country’s north but also recently have struck in the east.

In October, gunmen generally believed to be Islamic extremists attacked a convoy carrying employees of a mining company in that region, killing at least 37 people.

Dancing and singing at Vatican mass as Pope welcomes Congolese

The whoops of joy from the Congolese approaching the altar with symbolic gifts made for a vivid contrast with the solemnity of most religious ceremonies at the Vatican basilica.

Francis decided to celebrate the Mass to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Catholic Congolese Community in Rome.

The Mass was conducted using a special rite approved by the Vatican in 1988 entitled the “Congolese Missal for the dioceses of Zaire,” the former name of DR Congo.

The Vatican noted that Popes Paul VI and John Paul II had encouraged, as the Vatican put it, “opening the liturgy to the cultural values of the people” of DR Congo.

In his homily, Francis prayed that conflict cease, noting that peace was “gravely threatened in the east of the country”. He decried weapon suppliers, lamenting “conflicts fed by those enriching themselves with arms”.

Recently, rebels in eastern DR Congo have targeted Ebola response workers, compounding difficulties in containing the outbreak.

Francis noted that many in the pews on Sunday had left their homes and loved ones to come to Italy in search of a better life. In an apparent reference to hostility by many Italians to arriving refugees and migrants, the pope said: “The church is the house of God. Here, then, always feel at home.”

Francis’s expressed desires to visit DR Congo as well as South Sudan have so far been thwarted by persistent…

Six Reasons the Multi-Venue Church Model Will Experience Rapid Growth

By Thom S. Rainer

The trends are fascinating.

About 50 years ago, many congregations in the United States began adopting the “multi” model. This first phase of the multi-model was primarily multiple worship services on Sunday morning. To be certain, it was controversial. You heard cries of, “We’ve never done it that way before” and “You will not be able to know other people in the church.”

The controversies quieted for the most part. Then the multi-site model began to gain momentum about two decades ago. Again, similar objections were raised. I was an early adopter of this model as a pastor in 1995, and I experienced firsthand the challenges of leading such a congregation to start a second site for our church.

The multi-venue model is not new, but it is gaining momentum. I define multi-venue as worship gatherings at the same site beyond the Sunday morning services or beyond the same worship center or sanctuary. For example, a church may start a service for college students on Tuesday evening. Or it may have a Korean service meeting in another part of the church facilities concurrent with an English-speaking service.

Though the model is not new, there seems to be a perfect storm accelerating the growth of the multi-venue approach. Here are six components moving the model forward.

  1. Multiplication is a proven model. The New Testament is clear about multiplication. The purpose of Paul’s missionary journeys was to take the gospel and to start, or multiply churches. We have seen the…

Pastor felt forced to leave school job after tweet about Pride

Keith Waters, 53, pastor of New Connexions Free Church in Ely, wrote online on 1st June: “A reminder that Christians should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Christian faith and morals. They are especially harmful to children.”

A local journalist responded to the now deleted tweet saying he was attacking the LGBTQ community and two days later he was on the front page of the Cambridge Evening News after he refused to apologise to another journalist who approached him before his Sunday service.

Mr Waters said his post was directed to Christians and he was referring to inappropriate outfits children might see.

The preacher from Ely in Cambridgeshire, who also worked as a caretaker at the Isle of Ely Primary School, said he then experienced a series of harassments and threats, including his wife Joanna being asked by a funeral director what she would like to be done with his body and estate agents contacting them, having been told he was leaving the area ‘in a hurry’.

A local parent from the school he worked in also ranted at him from a car while he was on his bike and the head teacher informed him that he was being investigated for bringing the school ‘into disrepute’ after receiving a handful of complaints.

He was then given a final warning by the head…
