Open Heaven 25 January 2019 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Not For Sale!

Topic: Not For Sale! (Open Heaven 25 January 2019)

Memorise: “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”- Matthew 10:8

Read: Daniel 5:10-17 (KJV)

10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?

14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:

16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

Bible in One Year: Luke 2-3, Isaiah 24:1-20

Open Heaven 25 January 2019 Friday MESSAGE:

In His omniscience, our God has chosen not to endow His spiritual gifts on many of His children and ministers, even though they earnestly desire and seek these with fasting, prayer and long periods of waiting upon Him. His refusal is because He knows they will make merchandise of His gifts, and He does not want them to face the damnation that will follow. The Holy Spirit warns us concerning this in 2 Peter 2:3:

“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

Our Lord Jesus Christ in today’s memory verse laid bare His principles for operating in spiritual gifts, saying, “Freely ye have received, freely give.” Contrary to this principle, some ministers of God are merchandising the gospel in order to meet their personal needs. Beloved, if you belong to this category of people, I advise that you repent, because it is better not to preach than to preach for money. Whoever is in contention with this truth should read the story of Gehazi over and over again in 2 Kings 5:16-27.

Daniel was an upright prophet of God who chose not to make gain from his prophetic office. Even though he was offered great riches and political appointment if he could read the writing on the wall and tell its interpretation, he declined these gifts. In Daniel 5:17, he said:

“…Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.”

In other words, Daniel was saying “My prophetic gift is not for sale.” Faced with a similar circumstance, Peter said to Simon the sorcerer in Acts 8:20:

“…Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”

This is the character that our Lord wants to see in those who minister before Him and among His people. The mentality of merchandising the gift of God must be discouraged in the Church of God today. May God help His ministers to keep to the ethics of their calling in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 25 January 2019 Friday Prayer Point:

Father, please deliver the ministers of Your gospel all over the world from greed that may cause them to merchandise Your spiritual gifts.

Open Heaven 25 January 2019 Friday Hymn 5: Let Others See Jesus In You

1. While passing thro’ this world of sin,
and others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;
Let others see Jesus in you.

2. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’
Say, does it point them to the skis,
Do others see Jesus in you?

3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
and lead the lost to life and Christ.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Israel Launches Iron Dome Missile System to Tel Aviv

Israel Launches Iron Dome Missile System to Tel Aviv

Israel launched the Iron Dome missile system to Tel Aviv on Thursday as conflict rose between Syria and Hamas in Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at an army base in southern Israel Wednesday, saying he was “confident of our ability to defeat the enemy.

“Iran has declared its intention to destroy us with nuclear weapons, weapons we must interdict. But they are also building up forces in our region, a forward base in Lebanon, with the help of Hezbollah, and a southern front, supported by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Now they want to set up another front, on the Golan, right on our border. We must fight all these things,” Netanyahu added.

Most recently, fighting broke out Wednesday when “unknown assailants” opened fire on Israeli soldiers along the Syrian border. No injuries or deaths were reported.

IDF says it is “determined to defend the citizens of the State of Israel.”

However, Tuesday, Syria’s envoy to the United Nations said Damascus could attack Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv if the United Nations did not stop Israeli attacks.

Earlier this week, there were two other border fights with Hamas where one IDF soldier was injured. Israel retaliated by destroying terror targets in the Gaza Strip.

Also this week, the IDF released a video of its Iron Dome defense system intercepting a rocket over a ski resort in the Israeli-occupies area of the…

God’s Not Dead, I Can Only Imagine Crews Team Up for Movie about Former Planned Parenthood Employee

God’s Not Dead, I Can Only Imagine Crews Team Up for Movie about Former Planned Parenthood Employee

The makers of God’s Not Dead are set to release a new film this spring that tells the inspiring true story of a Planned Parenthood employee whose eyes are opened to the heartbreaking truth of abortion.

Unplanned tells the story of Abby Johnson, a woman who worked for planned parenthood for eight years until she saw the organizations inner workings and the truth about abortion. After quitting her job at the abortion clinic, Johnson becomes a pro-life advocate and worked to help other employees get out of the reproductive healthcare field, Relevant Magazine reports.

The film was written by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman of God’s Not Dead and is being worked on by the production crew from I Can Only Imagine, a film that grossed over $82 million in the box office in 2018.

According to The Stream, while creating Unplanned the cast and crew kept the project very quiet, even going as far as referring to it as Redeemed instead of the projects actual name, to avoid protests from pro-abortion advocates. Solomon told The Stream, “…We don’t want anyone to know we are making Unplanned as a movie. Because it would be very difficult to film if people were trying to burn down the warehouse while we’re in it. Or if protestors show up to scream and throw stones.”

The film on the controversial topic has been picking up social…

Mariano Rivera Becomes First Player Unanimously Voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Gives All the Glory to God

Mariano Rivera Becomes First Player Unanimously Voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Gives All the Glory to God

Retired New York Yankees’ pitcher Mariano Rivera made history on Tuesday when he became the first player to unanimously be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and he gave all of the glory to God.

The record-holding pitcher played 19 seasons with the New York Yankees, 17 of which he acted as the team’s closer. In his time in the MLB, Rivera was named an All-Star player 13 times, won five World Series championships with his team, broke two records – career leader in saves with 652 and 952 game finishes – which he still holds, along with a long list of other accolades.

For Rivera, however, it is not about the stats and the records he holds. The Hall of Famer told CBN News, he is more concerned with the man he is.

Rivera said, “Those things (the stats) mean nothing for me. I mean, doesn’t make me better or less.”

“See, I don’t—I don’t want people to recognize me for those things. I want people to recognize me for who I am,” he added.

The Christian athlete then noted that his identity and accomplishments can only be realized through Christ.

He told CBN Sports, “It is because God, Christ took those abilities and took it to a different level.”

“The Lord gave me the strength to do all that stuff. So, therefore, I can never speak about myself, but the Lord,” he added.

Along with Rivera,…

South Dakota Transgender Bill May Ban Boys from Girls’ Sports: ‘It’s All about Fair Competition’

South Dakota Transgender Bill May Ban Boys from Girls’ Sports: ‘It’s All about Fair Competition’

A South Dakota legislator introduced a bill this month that would require transgender high school athletes to participate on teams that reflect the gender of their birth certificate.

The bill by state Sen. Jim Bolin and Rep. Thomas Brunner – both Republicans – would overturn the current policy by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) that allows high schoolers to participate on whichever team they choose.

The current policy means a boy who identifies as a girl can play on the girls’ basketball team or run as a girl in track. In Connecticut, athletes who were born male have won state championships in girls track.

Bolin, a former high school athletic director, said the bill reflects fairness and common sense.

“I believe the activities association is a very good group, but I think they made a bad decision when they implemented this policy four, five years ago,” Bolin told the Argus Leader. “We have sports that are set up – boys go over 39-inch hurdles in 110 meters and girls have to clear 33-inch hurdles in 100-meter hurdles.

“We have a smaller ball for girls basketball than we do for boys basketball. If we’re going to have these modifications, then my point is that the birth certificate should be the determining factor in which team you play on. It’s all about fair…

“All with great joy, friendship, all with the joy of welcoming the Holy Father – the Pope, being able to actually see him…and be with him at mass.

“If you could see the people around me – I can see flags from Australia, US, Great Britain, New Zealand – all English-speaking countries all coming together…”

Police Arrest Nurse for Rape of Woman in Vegetative State Who Gave Birth in Long-Term Care Facility

Police Arrest Nurse for Rape of Woman in Vegetative State Who Gave Birth in Long-Term Care Facility

An Arizona woman in a vegetative state gave birth last month in a long-term care facility and police have arrested one of the facility’s nurses in connection with the incident.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, employees at the Hacienda HealthCare facility only realized that the Phoenix woman, who has been a patient at Hacienda HealthCare for 26 years, was pregnant when she began to make moaning sounds while delivering her baby.

According to Fox News, the 29-year-old victim was placed in long-term care at three-years-old after a near-drowning incident that left her with severe intellectual and mobility disabilities as well as the inability to speak.

After giving birth to her baby boy in late-December, Phoenix Police began to investigate the incident. Through a combination of “good old fashion police work” and DNA testing, police were able to identify 36-year-old Nathan Sutherland, a nurse at the facility, as the man who impregnated the victim.

The Phoenix Police Chief said in a statement that authorities were able to run DNA tests on the baby against DNA collected from Hacienda employees to identify the perpetrator.

According to Fox News, Sutherland is being charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse.

Additionally, two doctors who were charged with providing care for the…

Survey reveals low levels of Bible reading among Christian millennials

Engagement with the Bible among Christians was obviously higher than millennials in general but only around 49% belivers said they read it more than once a month.

9% of practising Christians said they read it every day and 13% a few times a week, 13% said every week and 17% said they read it a few times a year, meaning around 51% of practising Christians read it less than once a month.

The survey was commissioned the Bible Society, designed by CODEC at the University of Durham, conducted by Comres and analysed by Barna Global.

47% all millennials asked said they haven’t listened or engaged with the Bible in the last year but 29% engage with it once a month or more.

For those who had heard or read a Bible verse in the last year, which could include Christians and non-Christians, the places this primarily happened was at home (29%), at a special service, such as a wedding or funeral (22%), or at a regular church service (12%).

Special services became the most common reason to hear from the Bible once you account for only non-Christians.

The reasons for engaging with the Bible among all categories, which could include simply being at a service, were mostly ‘to comfort me’ (30% of those who’d read it in the last year) and ‘to inspire me’ (29%). Other reasons included to bring them closer to God and seeking guidance.

48% of millennials said they didn’t have a relationship with the Bible.

34% said they see Bible…

Ohio Governor Says He Will Sign Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Restriction into Effect

Ohio Governor Says He Will Sign Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Restriction into Effect

As an Iowa judge strikes down a law banning abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, Ohio’s new governor shares that he will “absolutely” sign a similar bill into effect in his state.

Reportedly, a fetal heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, so, when the law was passed last year in Iowa, Planned Parenthood and the Emma Goldman Clinic challenged the abortion restriction, preventing it from taking effect last July.

Upon review, Iowa Judge Michael Huppert shot down the law claiming that it violates the state’s constitution. Fox News reports that Huppert said, that the law worked contrary to “both the due process and equal protection provisions of the Iowa Constitution as not being narrowly tailored to serve the compelling state interest of promoting potential life.”

Meanwhile, in Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine, who recently made headlines for being sworn into office with his hand laying atop nine family Bibles, announced that he would “absolutely” sign the “heartbeat bill” into effect.

According to Fox News, DeWine, who took office last week, told radio host Hugh Hewitt that despite the former pro-life governor John Kasich’s decision to veto the law, if it passed again, he would not hesitate to sign it.

Still, DeWine noted that even if it did pass there would still be a fight. He told the conservative…

Court to rule on appeal against Asia Bibi’s acquittal

The Supreme Court in Islamabad can approve or reject a call for an appeal against its decision in October 2018 which overturned the Christian women’s blasphemy conviction.

In a deal struck with Islamists – who staged days of violent demonstrates immediately after Ms Bibi was cleared – authorities agreed there would be a final review of the controversial ruling.

Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry, a lawyer who filed the petition demanding an appeal, told the AFP news agency: “The court will determine if our appeal against her acquittal is admitted”.

Hardliners, who accuse Ms Bibi of insulting the Islamic prophet Muhammad, have been demanding her public execution.

The mother-of-five has always denied the allegation of blasphemy which followed a disagreement she had with a group of Muslim women in 2009 over the shared use of a water cup.

Ms Bibi spent eight years on death row after being convicted of blasphemy in 2010.

Since her acquittal, she has been living in hiding and under the close watch of security forces.

Supporters and family members are keen for Ms Bibi to leave Pakistan as soon as possible. Countries including Australia and Canada have signalled their willingness to offer her asylum.
