The 46thannual March for Life kicks off on Friday, January 18, and one mother with her three daughters are showing up in style.


Carla D’Addesi and her teen daughters launched a pro-life fashion line called Culture of Life 1972, in January, CBN News reports. 


The line, which contains, leggings, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, gym bags and more, is meant to serve as a celebration of life for all of the yet to be born children. 


D’Addesi told CBN News in an interview that she and her daughters came up with the concept of COL 1972 during a family dinner one day. She said, “We’d really like to get back to a culture of life, the year 1972. 1973 is when our Supreme Court ruled that the tiniest people did not have the right to life.”


D’Addesi said she was motivated to create this line with her daughters because they wanted to spread a message that they could stand behind. She told CBN News, “We are shopping all the time and we felt a little bit marginalized because some of the messaging that was on the shirts just went against our core principles, our core values.” She continued, “We want to support companies that support our core values.”


According to D’Addesi, the clothing line was conceptualized with 10 to 30-year-olds in mind and designed by an experienced designer from L.A. The athleisure brand launched at the start January…

Christian hotel worker fired for refusing to work on Sundays awarded £16.2 million

Marie Jean Pierre sued the Conrad Hotel in Miami, Florida – accusing bosses of breaking discrimination laws by dismissing her when she missed six shifts.

Commenting on her victory at a federal court, the 60-year-old told NBC 6 Miami: “I love God. No work on Sunday, because Sunday I honour God.”

 

The mother-of-six, who attends the city’s Bethel Baptist Church, claimed she had informed her employer when she was hired in 2006 that she could not work during Sundays.

The court heard how Ms Pierre was forced to swap shifts with colleagues when, in 2015, a manager began ordering her to come in during Sundays anyway to wash dishes.

Despite the efforts of co-workers, she was dismissed on the grounds of misconduct, negligence and “unexcused absences”.

 

The jury ordered Conrad Hotel, which is owned by Hilton Worldwide, to pay Ms Pierre $21 million in punitive damages, $500,000 for emotional anguish and $36,000 for lost earnings.

Hilton said it was “disappointed” by the verdict and it intended to appeal against it.

A statement said: “We were very disappointed by the jury’s verdict, and don’t believe that it is supported by the facts of this case or the law.

 

“During Ms Pierre’s ten years with the hotel, multiple concessions were made to accommodate her personal and religious commitments.

“We intend to appeal, and demonstrate that the Conrad Miami was and remains a welcoming place…

ST. LOUIS (RNS) — Darrin Patrick always told people he wasn’t perfect.


As founding pastor of The Journey church, Patrick would begin each year preaching about the 10 mistakes he’d made as pastor, says longtime church member Bob Oesch.


Oesch found that kind of honesty refreshing.


“Pastors don’t do that,” he said.


Patrick’s down-to-earth preaching style and transparency helped the church grow from a group of 100 people meeting at a community center to a megachurch of 3,000 meeting in six locations — until his mistakes caught up to him.


In 2016, Patrick, who was also a vice president of the Acts 29 church planting network, was fired from The Journey for what church officials said was misconduct, including “inappropriate meetings, conversations, and phone calls with two women” and a pattern of sinful conduct, including lying, abuse of power and lack of self-control.


The Journey’s former pastor is now on staff at a megachurch in Charleston, S.C. The Journey has moved on, said Oesch.


“My sense of The Journey is that things are calm, are organized, that our leadership is committed and that communication from church leaders has been very good lately,” he said.


Attendance is down 14 percent since the firing, according to the church.

An employee at Liberty University has been accused of working with Michael Cohen to rig polls in Donald Trump’s favor early in the 2016 Presidential election cycle.


Cohen, the former personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, allegedly offered John Gauger, who currently works as the chief information officer at Liberty, $50,000 to inflate Trump’s online poll numbers.


The Wall Street Journal reported that Gauger received the money in a meeting with Cohen at his Trump Organization office. However, Gauger said that he met with Cohen and then Cohen handed him a Wal-Mart bag containing over $12,000 in cash. He said Cohen also gave him a boxing glove from a Brazilian MMA fighter. 


Gauger told The Wall Street Journal that he already spoke to FBI investigators about his relationship with Cohen. The two first met in 2012 and last spoke before the FBI raided Cohen’s home and office.


Liberty University put out a statement standing behind Gauger and praising him for his work with the university and his entrepreneurship. The handbook – named “Pastoral Orientations on Human Trafficking” is split into ten sections that analyses the $150bn a year industry.

The online guide includes a search engine to help people study the pope’s teachings on the subject further.

 

It states: “Pope Francis’ insistent teaching on human trafficking provides the foundation for the present pastoral orientations which draw also from the longstanding practical experience of many international Catholic NGOs working in the field and from the observations of representatives of bishops’ conferences.

“While approved by the Holy Father, the orientations do not pretend to exhaust the church’s teaching on human trafficking; rather, they provide a series of key considerations that may be useful to Catholics and others in their pastoral ministry, in planning and practical engagement, in advocacy and dialogue.”

The Migrants and Refugees Section of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development released the guideline on Thursday at a Vatican news conference.

They highlighted the need to target consumers who drive the demand for human trafficking.

Karen Pence taught art at Immanuel Christian School in Virginia for twelve years while her husband served as a congressman. Her office announced Tuesday that she “missed teaching art” and will be returning to her part-time position.

Here’s the problem: this Christian school teaches and operates by a Christian code of conduct.

Immanuel requires parents to agree that they and their children will not act in opposition to “the biblical lifestyle the school teaches.” Examples include “participating in, supporting, or condoning sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity.”

The school’s employment application requires employees to affirm “that the term ‘marriage’ has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive covenant union.” It defines “moral misconduct” that would disqualify employees as “heterosexual activity outside of marriage (e.g., premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex), homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, [and] any other violation of the unique roles of male and female.”

According to a CNN opinion writer, “This language is disgusting.” He’s not alone in his outrage, but his argument is so important and so popular that I’d like to explore it with you today.

The problem with acting on your faith

The writer claims that Immanuel’s stance “insults millions of taxpaying American citizens, many who have served their country. That it is acceptable to the wife of the man who is a heartbeat away from the presidency should horrify and alarm all Americans.”

Of course, Immanuel’s statements are expressions of basic Christian beliefs that have been affirmed for twenty centuries. For such orthodoxy to be branded “disgusting” is noteworthy.

Even more significant is the writer’s larger argument. He admits that the school “does have a legal right” to what he calls “its brand of hate.” He describes the Pences…

The 5,657 signatories on the petition are concerned about content in school textbooks in Pakistan that encourages discrimination against religious minorities, including calling Hindus ‘enemies of Pakistan’ and the removal of the contributions of religious minorities to Pakistan’s history.

The Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden handed it in to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon (pictured), the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Lord Bates, the Minister of State for the Department for International Development (DfID) and Preet Gill, the first female British Sikh MP.

Siobhain McDonagh said: “It is imperative that no taxpayer money goes on funding discrimination or religious hatred anywhere in the world.”

The campaigners behind the petition also suggest that the government supports interfaith initiatives to encourage mutual understanding between religious communities.

Pakistan is number five on the 2019 World Watch list compiled by Open Doors to monitor which countries face the worst persecution for Christians. Many face discrimination at work and are scared to talk about their faith openly for being at risk of breaking blasphemy laws.

Lord Bourne met with volunteers helping rough sleepers during a visit to the St Mary and Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church in Hove on Thursday.

Speaking with Premier, he said: “They’re doing great things in helping provide meals for people who are homeless – and working with other faith communities.”

 

Lord Bourne also visited the city centre’s St Peter’s Church which runs a variety of projects including coaching sessions for unemployed young people and a Christians Against Poverty Money Course.

Bosses at the Haifa Museum of Art had previously resisted calls to take down the life-size ‘Mc Jesus’ model, on the grounds of freedom of expression.

But the city’s mayor Einat Kalisch-Rotem said it would be removed at the earliest opportunity, following discussions with church leaders.

 

In a tweet translated by the Reuters news agency, she said: “The sculpture will be removed and returned as soon as possible.

“We regret the aggravation the Christian community experienced… and the physical injury and violence that surrounded it.”

 

Violent protests erupted over of the artwork last Friday. Dozens of people had forcibly tried to enter the museum in unrest which saw one person arrest. Firebombs were thrown at the museum.
