Chick-fil-A Opens on Sunday, Makes 14-Year-Old Autistic Boy’s Birthday Wish Come True

Chick-fil-A Opens on Sunday, Makes 14-Year-Old Autistic Boy’s Birthday Wish Come True

An Alabama Chick-fila-A opened their doors on Sunday to make a 14-year-old autistic boys birthday wish come true.

According to the Christian Post, 14-year-old Elijah Sprague, who is diagnosed with both autism and cerebral palsy, only wished to work at a Chick-fila-A drive-thru for his birthday. Sprague’s Uncle Walt Gilstrap – the manager at their local Chick-fil-A – and the Store’s owner heard Sprague’s wish an opened up their store.

WKRG reports that Sprague was able to hand out cookies to about 40 cars filled with friends and family through the drive-thru window.

After the teen was able to hand out cookies to his friends and family, everyone came inside the restaurant – which is normally closed on Sunday’s because of its Christian foundation – to celebrate Sprague’s birthday over a large cookie cake.

According to the Christian Post, Sprague was born 18 weeks early and was only expected to live for about one year. Rene Sprague, the boy’s mom, first met her son while working as a nurse in the NICU Sprague was placed in as a newborn. When Sprague was about six months old, Rene and her husband decided to adopt him despite all odds, and on Sunday he was able to celebrate his 14 birthday with his friends and family.

In an interview with CBS News, Rene thanked everyone for making her son’s birthday so special. She also…

Asia is now the ‘new hotbed of Christian persecution’, report finds

Christian charity Open Doors’ annual World Watch List has found 245 million Christians globally experience high levels of persecution – up 14 per cent from last year.

Spokesperson for the charity, Tamsin Taylor told Premier Asia is becoming a new “hotbed” for persecution against Christians as one-in-three Asian Christians now suffer high levels of persecution.

“India (10th) and China (27th) have both seen a dramatic worsening in the situation for Christians and both of those have millions and millions of Christians in their population,” she explained.

“So it’s a really significant deterioration.”

India – the world’s largest democracy – entered the World Watch List top ten for the first time as Hindu extremists “act with impunity and violent attacks on Christians and churches rise”.

The charity explained this is driven by growing ultra-nationalism, which has brought waves of violence against India’s significant non-Hindu religious minorities.

The persecution of Christians in China is the worst it has been for more than a decade.

Taylor said the government is to blame: “The government are cracking down on Christians in China.

“They want people in China to be loyal first and foremost to the Communist party and Christians are loyal first and foremost to Jesus. So, the Chinese government doesn’t like that very much.”

Overall,…

California May Teach Kindergarteners There Are 15 Genders

California May Teach Kindergarteners There Are 15 Genders

Kindergarteners and other elementary-aged students in California’s public schools will be taught to reject “gender stereotypes” – such as about clothing, colors and toys – and to accept transgenderism as normative if proposed health guidelines are approved.

There would be no opt-out option for parents.

One recommended book in the guidelines tells the story of a boy who wants to be a princess. Another recommended book teaches students there are at least 15 genders. That same book also tells children it’s impossible to know if a baby is a boy or a girl.

The guidelines are part of the California Department of Education’s proposed Health Education Framework

“Discuss gender with kindergarteners by exploring gender stereotypes and asking open-ended questions, such as what are preferred colors, toys, and activities for boys/girls, and then challenging stereotypes if presented,” chapter three of the proposed guidelines reads. “Throughout this discussion, show images of children around the same age who do not conform to typical gender stereotypes. Examples do not have to be exaggerated or overt. Simple differences, such as colors or toy preferences, can demonstrate acceptance of gender non-conformity.”

Details about the guidelines were first reported by Brenda Lebsack at EdSource.org. She is a member of the Orange Unified School District board of…

Churches warned to handle security or risk closure

The Home department of the government of the Punjab province instructed churches in the region via a letter that missing the deadline would result in closures until the government’s safety standards are met.

Several churches have been attacked in the past, with hundreds of people being killed in these attacks as well.

However, Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) – the Christian charity dedicated to helping persecuted Christians in Pakistan, said the measure was unfair.

It a statement, CLAAS said: “But the government has failed to bring the perpetrators to justice and now instead of providing security to them, it is shifting its responsibility to the churches.

“The majority of churches are poor, and it will not be possible for many of them to make their own security arrangements, sadly resulting in some churches facing closure.”

The government has not issued guidelines on what the minimum security standards for churches are.

15 churches receive bomb threat letters

According to local press organisation, Sheffield Now, St Mary’s church in High Green got a letter that said: “Stop all your services straight away / If you don’t your church will be petrol bombed while in service. Continue behind closed doors, your congregation members will be stabbed one by one. Blood on your hands. (You have been warned)”.

South Yorkshire police have handed the investigation over to the West Midlands as all the letters had a postmark from that area.

They told Premier: “West Midlands Police is investigating after several threatening letters have been sent to mainly churches and supermarkets across the region and officers are aware of a few sent further afield over a period of months. Enquiries remain on-going.”

The Times report that seven churches in the West Midlands area have received letters of a similar nature. One primary school decided not to take the children to an Epiphany Mass at the church.

Fr Andrew Browne from St Mary’s Church in High Green said he was told that at least 15 letters had been received by churches nationally during the Catholic Bishops’ conference last week.

Texas Church Pays Off School Lunch Debt for More than 200 Students

Texas Church Pays Off School Lunch Debt for More than 200 Students

One Texas Church band together over the holidays to donate $10,000 to pay off an entire school districts student lunch debt.

According to NBC 5, Royse City First United Methodist Church has a tradition of donating its Christmas Eve offerings to charity.

In 2017, the congregation decided to donate half of the offerings to their “sister school” to help families who had fallen behind on payments for their student’s lunches.

After witnessing the impact the donation made in the previous year, the church decided to help the entire Royse City Independent School District in 2018.

In an interview with NBC 5, the church’s pastor Chris Everson said that helping the community is what the church is called to do. Everson said, “If the church does not impact the community the church is in, then the church isn’t doing its job.”

“With us having the opportunity to make an impact, then we are doing what Christ has called us to do to – serve the least of these,” he added.

According to NBC 5, Everson had asked the church in the fall to consider the amount of money they spend on their Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. He then asked each family to try to save that amount of money to put forward in a donation. Together the 200-member church was able to save more than $10,000 to be donated to the ISD.

The Christian Post reports that donation paid off student’s…

Christian charity calls for calm as Brit killed in Kenya attack named

CAFOD’s message follows the British man killed at the DusitD2 hotel complex on Tuesday in Nairobi being named as Luke Potter.

Militants set off explosions in the luxury hotel’s car park before they fired shots and stormed the hotel complex.

Islamic militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

CAFOD’s Country Representative, Catherine Ogolla described the attacks as “horrifying and worrying”, but said communities must not become divided and instead must work for peace and social cohesion.

She explained: “What terrorists of any type want is to divide communities and sow violence, so all peoples must stand together for peace and unity in this time of trouble, sending the message out that any form of violent terror will not succeed; will not divide the Kenyan nation.”

Kenya’s president has confirmed all the armed terrorists involved in the attack have been “eliminated”.

In a televised address, Mr Kenyatta did not say how many attackers were involved but said more than 700 people were evacuated during the security operation.

He also urged Kenyans to “go back to work without fear”, insisting the East African country is safe for citizens and visitors.

Ogolla echoed the need to have hope for a better future and added: “The Kenyan people need a sustained commitment…

Dementia and Religion: ‘What If I Forget about God?’

Dementia and Religion: ‘What If I Forget about God?’

Dementia is the overall term for memory loss and cognitive impairment that results from diseases such as Alzheimer’s. It progresses as damage to the brain disrupts normal communication between brain cells and, in turn, affects behavior and thinking. This story is part of a Religion News Service series on dementia and religion

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (RNS) — When geropsychologist Benjamin Mast evaluates dementia clients at his University of Louisville research lab, there’s a question some people of faith ask him:

“What if I forget about God?”

It’s a query that reflects the struggles of people facing diseases like Alzheimer’s.

The earliest stages of Alzheimer’s involve the buildup of protein fragments, or plaques, on some brain cells and the growth of twisted fibers, or tangles, within those cells. That process, Mast said in an interview, “damages a particular aspect of the memory system more significantly than others.”

In his book, “Second Forgetting: Remembering the Power of the Gospel During Alzheimer’s Disease,” Mast describes a man who may not always remember his grown children’s names but “quickly joins in” when someone reads one of his favorite psalms.

Mast said what remains intact is the part of the memory that’s held longest. In some cases, that relates to faith: hymns and creeds that people may have recited for years.

“If you ask a…

Asia Bibi ‘still living like a prisoner’

Those close to Asia Bibi say Pakistani security forces will not allow the mother to open a window in her hideout – in a location which remains a closely-guarded secret.

Ms Bibi is being kept under close watch and is prevented from leaving the country while the Supreme Court in Islamabad reviews its decision to free her – eight years after she was sentenced to death.

Currently living with her husband, Ashiq Masih, she longs to be reunited with her children – who have been taken to Canada for their own safety – friends say. They spoke on condition of anonymity.

Islamist extremists and members of right-wing religious parties have been demanding the public execution of Asia Bibi over claims she insulted the Islamic prophet Mohammad – something Ms Bibi denies.

She has been living in a hideout amid concerns of a threat to her safety.

Ms Bibi was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death in 2010 following a row with two Muslim women over the shared use of a drinking water container.

It is believed Ms Bibi intends to…
