FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 13:5-17

MEMORY VERSE: “For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. – Luke 22:27

The MESSAGE:

Jesus’ words in Luke 22:27, “I am among you as he that serveth”, is profound, thought-provoking and pregnant with meaning. A quip says that a man’s true ideals are not those he talks about but those he lives by. Did Jesus’ life and ministry affirm that He indeed served God and others? Yes, they did. Let us examine five ways Jesus served while on earth.

The first way Jesus served was by giving His life. The Scriptures affirmed this in Mark 10:45 when Jesus said, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” The most important reason Jesus Christ came to earth was to give His life so that those who repent and believe in Him might be saved. By laying down His precious life for the salvation of mankind, Jesus rendered the greatest service to God and to others. As a New Testament believer, you may not take the way of martyrdom to serve others but you could take great risks and experience some pain to ensure that others receive the gospel and are saved.

The second way Jesus served God and others was by healing the sick. Everywhere Jesus went, He was constantly doing good works: healing the sick, making the lame to walk, restoring sight to the blind. Isaiah, the messianic prophet had prophesied this earlier when he wrote, “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.” (Isaiah 35:5-6). Jesus served by healing both physical and spiritual ailments. How? He removed the death penalty resulting from sin as well as the terminal illness of wicked and deceitful hearts (Jeremiah 17:9). The uncommon anointing and grace the Father lavished on His Son, Jesus Christ, was used to serve (Acts 10:38). Borrow a leaf from Jesus. Use your gifts and talents to serve God and others. Be among the people in your church, company, family and neighbourhood as one who serves.

1.Thank You, Father, for the grace to believe and trust You; and, thank You, for all the battles You have fought and won on my behalf and family.

11.Father, I soak Your son, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, in the blood of Jesus, and I decree that no weapon fashioned against him and his family shall prosper, in Jesus’ name.

12.Father, bless Your son, that You have been using to prepare these prayer points, beyond measures; help him to overcome every challenge of getting these prayer points across to Your children timely, on daily basis, in Jesus’ name.

Text: Exodus 4:18-26 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him” (Exodus 4:24).

MESSAGE:

The expression, “All animals are equal; but some are more equal than the others” is a popular quote from George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The expression goes to prove that the equality before the law is known to be entrenched in the nation’s constitution, there are some who appear to be above the law. The immunity clause given to some political office holders goes to confirm the truth expressed by George Orwell.

God does not give room for any exceptions. He had called Moses and commissioned him to go and deliver the children of Israel from Egyptian captivity. He had promised to be with him and ensure that no one will hurt him. But as he journeyed back to Egypt, while in the inn, God decided to confront his family with judgement obviously over the issue of the circumcision of his son that Moses had overlooked. God had commanded that every Israelite male child must be circumcised on the eighth day after birth. Moses knew this but failed to do so. God’s dealing with Moses and his family shows that He never overlooks any minor detail in His Word.

There are no exceptions when it comes to obedience to God’s word. No part of the Word can be relegated to the background. We do not have the right to categorise the word of God into degrees of importance. Every part of His Word is of equal importance and must be obeyed. Again, we learn that there is no exemption of anyone when it comes to obeying God. Your calling, position or privilege does not in any way place you above the word of God or exempt you from obeying any of His commandments. It is not our prerogative to sacrifice obedience to God’s word for the sake of peace in our homes or elsewhere. It is our responsibility to give God top priority in our lives and homes.

Thought For The Day: No matter who you are, God requires total and implicit obedience from you!

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Matthew 25:37-40

My daughter was ready for school a little earlier than usual, so she asked if we could stop by the coffee shop on our way. I agreed. As we approached the drive-thru lane, I said, “Do you feel like spreading some joy this morning?” She said, “Sure.”

We placed our order, then pulled up to the window where the barista told us what we owed. I said, “We’d like to pay for the young woman’s order behind us too.” My daughter had a huge smile on her face.

In the grand scheme of things, a cup of coffee may not seem like a big deal. Or is it? I wonder, could this be one way we carry out Jesus’s desire for us to care for those He called “the least of these”? (Matthew 25:40). Here’s a thought: How about simply considering the person behind us or next in line a worthy candidate? And then do “whatever”—maybe it’s a cup of coffee, maybe it’s something more, maybe something less. But when Jesus said “whatever you did” (v. 40) that gives us a great deal of freedom in serving Him while serving others.

As we drove away we caught the faces of the young woman behind us and the barista as she handed over the coffee. They were both grinning from ear to ear.

Today’s Reflection
Lord, help me not to overthink serving others. Sometimes the small, simple things mean more than I’ll ever know. And help me to remember that whatever I do for others, I’m doing for You.

Scripture: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with – Jesus. Acts 4:13.

Thought For The Day: To release dedication to God is to command the attention of both Divinity and humanity.

The Scripture makes it clear that one thing God requires from His children is their dedication to Him (Matthew 6:33). God is attracted to people who are dedicated and devoted to Him and His Cause on the earth; He proves Himself in the lives of dedicated people.

Now, the question is, how does God prove Himself in the lives of dedicated people?

It is by distinguishing them from other people.

God distinguishes the dedicated by showing them to the world to let everyone know that they are not wasting their lives and time in serving Him; God makes the people of the world to know that people who are dedicated to Him are exceptionally different from other people.

Let me give you an example: Simon Peter was an unlearned and ignorant fisherman who decided to be dedicated to God. God honoured him by distinguishing him from other people; his life stood out from the rest by virtue of dedication. In Acts 4:13, we understand that when the people who knew how he was before he met Jesus saw how his life had turned around totally after his relationship with Jesus Christ, they were amazed. That is what God can do in the life of a dedicated person. Peter’s life was totally transformed by His dedication to Jesus. The only thing people could say was that he had been with Jesus Christ. Indeed, God distinguishes dedicated people.

Beloved, to release dedication to God is to command the attention of both Divinity and humanity. To release dedication to God is to be singled out from the crowd.

Remember this: To release dedication to God is to command the attention of both Divinity and humanity.

Assignments:

1. Make up your mind to follow Jesus Christ like Peter did no matter the cost.
2. Decide not to follow the crowd but the principles of God’s Word for your life.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to release total commitment and dedication both to You and Your Course on earth. Help me Lord, to follow Your steps in everything I do, in Jesus’ Name.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? – Matthew 14:30-31

If there’s any way the devil can get your eyes away from the Word, he’ll do it. He’ll cause trouble. He’ll make the circumstances around you pitch and roll like a rowboat in a hurricane. He’ll do anything he can to get you to concentrate on the realm of the physical senses and the situation around you instead of on the promise of God—because he knows that if he doesn’t, you’ll take that promise and beat his brains out with it.

That’s what he did to Peter. When Peter first jumped out of the boat that day in response to Jesus’ word, what happened? He walked right across that water without a problem. His whole being was fastened on that word Jesus had spoken to him, “Come!”

But when he took his eyes off that word, he started looking at the storm. He started looking at the impossible thing he was doing. After all, he was a fisherman. All his training and experience told him when the waves were that high, you were going under. He started to focus on what he knew in the natural instead of what Jesus said. When he did that, his faith slipped out of gear and he started to sink.

Don’t let that happen to you. Once you get a revelation from the Word of God, hang on to it. Don’t focus on anything else.

The devil will do everything he can to get you to turn loose of it. He’ll stir up things around you. He’ll try to get you into fear. He’ll push every button he can from the past to get you back into your old way of thinking.

But don’t let go. Keep your eyes on the Word of God until it’s more real inside you than anything else. If you do, you’ll be able to walk your way across the water just fine.

Matthew 1:24, “Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife.”

Text: Matthew 1:18-24

Much attention is given to Mary and her piety, but Joseph was quite a man of faith, too.

Verse 18 says that Mary was “found” with child, implying that the pregnancy was observed by Joseph, not explained to him by Mary. And this was after Mary had been away visiting Elisabeth for three months! (Lk. 1:56) Certainly Joseph was tempted with the same thoughts that you or I would have been. How could she expect him to believe that this was a virgin birth?

As special as Mary was, she had an equally special young man for a fiance.

How many men would have believed such an incredible story even if an angel had told them in a dream? It took more faith on Joseph’s part than it did on Mary’s.

This is the way it always is. Those who hear of the vision or call of God second hand have to exhibit an even greater faith than the person who received the word from the Lord directly.

The scriptures don’t mention whether or not Mary ever attempted to convince Joseph of the truth. What would have been the use? Only God could make someone believe a story like this. It is to Mary’s credit that she trusted God and to Joseph’s credit that he believed God. Today, do as the Lord bids you and trust God to take care of the rest.

What we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will give us later. — Romans 8:18 (TLB)

Nowhere does the Bible teach that Christians are to be exempt from the tribulations and natural disasters that come upon the world. It does teach that the Christian can face tribulation, crisis, calamity, and personal suffering with a supernatural power that is not available to the person outside Christ. The early Christians were able to experience joy in their hearts in the midst of trials, troubles, and depression.

They counted suffering for Christ not as a burden or misfortune, but as a great honor, as evidence that Christ counted them worthy to witness to Him through suffering. They never forgot what Christ Himself had gone through for their salvation; and to suffer for His name’s sake was regarded as a gift rather than a cross. Christians can rejoice in tribulation because they have eternity’s values in view. When the pressures are on, they look beyond their present predicaments to the glories of heaven. The thought of the future life with its prerogatives and joys helps to make the trials of the present seem light and transient.

Prayer for the day: Father, help me to go beyond the afflictions and tribulations of our age, and to look toward the inheritance reserved for us in heaven.
