Topic: The Word Will Bring You Victory [TREM Devotional 10 January 2019]

“Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.” Psalm 105:19-20 KJV

Ever before Jacob went to Egypt, God had already prepared a man and sent him ahead. He said Go in advance. Go ahead and ambush the devil. Beloved, there is a great and divine assignment over your life; that is why the enemy is fighting you so that you would not fulfil it. But I declare that you will not die unsung. I will hear your voice and the world will hear your voice.

Joseph was the man God sent ahead of time to Egypt because His children must go through that land. So, he began to pass through all kinds of difficulties and challenges that he himself did not even know why. But today, we can open the scriptures and find out why we do go through some things we go through.

For Joseph, Potiphar’s house was not the destination. They threw him into jail and he became the head person in the prison. But the prison was also not the destination. He was in prison until God said ‘the time is up.’ When God says the time is up, it is up. Beloved, when something looks as if it will not work, it simply the means time is up. The thing that has held you over the years and it looks as if it would not work; I have come to announce to you that your time is up. Your time of testifying is here. You have been listening to other people’s testimonies, it is now your time. Praise God!

You see, when Joseph was in the prison, they put his feet in fetters. Everything was falling apart for him until the Word of God came to him. There is no deliverance for any person, more especially for God’s people, until the Word comes. The Word has to come to you; and as the Word comes to you, you enter into a time-frame where the Word of God will try you. It will then bring victory and deliverance.

The MESSAGE:

In the last two days, we learnt that one can become great in the kingdom of God by embracing humility and by having the heart to serve God and others willingly. We will conclude the discourse by looking at the third key or criterion for becoming great in the kingdom of God: die to self.

What does it mean to die to self? Self is a product of the flesh. You have to die to self every day if you want to be great in the kingdom of God. Dying to self is being broken. How do you die to self? It is by allowing your circumstances to help you become more like Christ especially the circumstances you do not like. A Christian counsellor once advised, “Anytime you feel the pain of an insult, disappointment, suffering, physical challenge or trial, it is an opportunity to die to pride, die to ego, die to sin and die to self.” The truth is that if you die to self, you will become humble and you will have a servant’s heart. Besides, heaven will be pleased with you and make you great.

Beloved, self-surrender is the key to dying to self. Surrender your pride and ego to God. Jesus was dead to self. That is why He was perfect in speech, thought and action. It is also the reason He said, “for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” (John 14:30). Apart from helping you to become great in the kingdom of God, dying to self is the key to acquiring unusual power in your Christian life. Apostle Paul was also dead to self. It is no wonder his ministry was so phenomenal. Paul said, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20). A famous writer said, “If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self”. Be wise!

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Many marriages ate needlessly failing because the marriage partners lack the knowledge of relationship dynamics. Hosea 4:6. Most couples, sadly to say are ignorant on purpose. In this study, we will be looking at the scriptural principles and the love language that must characterize our marital relationships.

1. SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES GUIDING MARRIAGE

Couples in marriage should understand that the image of God is best expressed in the combination of male and female (Gen.1:27). The God-designed differences between male and female are to be accepted as complimentary and not as competitive. (Gen.2:18). Marriage is not a human institution, it is divine.(Gen. 2:21-23). It is to be a relationship of companionship completion and communion (Gen.2:21-25; Matt.19: 5). Marriage was design designed by God to be a permanent, mutual and covenant relationship.(Matt. 19:6). God’s intent is for marriage to be an inestimable source of joy and fulfillment. In fact, marriage is a major part of God’s plan to bring redemption to human race. The environment of the marriage relationship provides the vehicle for the incarnation of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. (Gen. 3:15; 22:18; Ephesian 5:31-32).

2. UNDERSTANDING THE “LOVE LANGUAGES”

Many problems in marriage, usually occur due to the inability of the partners to understand each other’s love language. ‘Love language’ is Ann expression that makes you or your partner feel loved.

There are five primary love languages. They are:

i. Quality Time Together: Spending time with each other and talking without interruptions, going out and about, having fun together, celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, etc. Let courtship experience continue. (Gen.26:8).

ii. Acts of Service: Do things you know your spouse would like you do. For example cooking meals, helping each other especially in household chores, etc. (Eccl.4:9).

iii. Exchange of Gifts: Express your love for each other through giving/receiving of gifts no matter how small. (1 Sam.1:5; Prov.17:8).

iv. Words of Affirmation: Couples must be consistent in saying I love you, I am sorry,Thank you, You look nice in that dress etc. to each other. (Song of Solomon 1:15; 4:1,7).

v. Physical Touching: This is a way of communicating emotional love, e.g. holding hands, kissing, pecking, embracing, patting, necking, nibbling, sitting close to each other etc.(Gen.26:8; Song of Solomon 1:2).

CONCLUSION: Couples should discover and express to each other what they have discovered as their primary love language that they both enjoy.

QUESTIONS:

1. Mention at least 3 scriptural principles of marriage.
2. Identify the primary love languages needed in marriage.

ASSIGNMENT: Find out five (5) major differences between the scripture-based marital principles and the world/carnal-based marital principle.

TEXT REVIEW: GENESIS 2:18-25 “DIVINE SURGICAL OPERATION”

The mystery of togetherness in marriage is divine. This is the explained in the light of the following references:

i. God started it ” And God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him”. Gen.2:18.

ii. God recognized it “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof”. Gen.2:21.

iii. God performed the surgery and reconstructed the rib.”And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman”. Gen.2:22.

iv. God translated the bone to bones and flesh. Gen. 2:23a

v. The only assignment which Adam did in the process was to label the new creation by naming it and to accept it. “And Adam said…..,she shall be called a woman….shall cleave to his wife”. Gen.2:23-24.

vi. Both the man and the woman began to cohabit ( unity). They clave(unity). They were not ashamed (unity). Gen.2:24-25.

Open Heaven 10 January 2019 Prayer Points on Today – Relying on the Arm of Flesh?

Topic: Let God Handle It! [DCLM Daily Manna 10 January 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Psalm 10:12-18 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none” (Psalm 10:15).

MESSAGE:

As we witness the various forms of wickedness being perpetrated by the ungodly around us everyday, there is the tendency for some to become filled with hatred and bitter desire for revenge. Christians are being called upon in some quarters not to continue to resort to prayers only but to take up arms and go against their assailants.

This was exactly the same way the psalmist felt in the portion of our meditation today. The whole chapter of the Psalm is filled with the psalmist’s disgusting feeling over the acts and arrogant attitude of the wicked. What was even more disturbing to him was that the wicked rationalised their actions and felt that God did not take note. Unable to take these anymore, the psalmist calls on God, to punish and destroy the wicked.

Is it really right to pray that the wicked be punished and destroyed like the psalmist did? As believers, we must note that it is left to God to do something about evil against us. We must not take law into our own hands. God has not assigned us with the duty of bringing judgement or taking vengeance on the weekend. Vengeance and judgement belongs solely to Him and He says He will recompense. We must therefore not listen to the calls of those who are urging us to stop praying for God to defend and deliver us.

God watches and knows what is going on; He will deal with the wicked and ignorant at the right time. Yours is just to continue to focus on doing right and pleasing the Lord.

Thought For The Day: Though God bears with the wicked, his lamp shall be put out if he repents not.

Topic: Our Welcoming God [Our Daily Bread 10 January 2019 Devotional]

God does not show favoritism. Acts 10:34

Our church meets in an old elementary school, one that closed in 1958 rather than obey a US court order to integrate (the act of having African-American students attend schools previously attended by only Caucasian students). The following year, the school reopened and Elva, now a member of our church, was one of those black students who were thrust into a white world. “I was taken out of my safe community, with teachers who were part of our life,” Elva recalls, “and placed in a scary environment in a class with only one other black student.” Elva suffered because she was different, but she became a woman of courage, faith, and forgiveness.

Her witness is profound because of how much evil she endured at the hands of some members of a society that denied the truth that every human being, regardless of race or heritage, is loved by God. Some members of the early church struggled with this same truth, believing that certain people were, by birth, loved by God while others were rejected. After receiving a divine vision, however, Peter stunned everyone who would listen with this astounding revelation: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right” (Acts 10:34–35).

God opens His arms wide to extend love to everyone. May we do the same in His power.

Consider your neighborhood, your family, and your social sphere. Where do you find a temptation to exclude others? Why?

We’re tempted to push others away, but God’s arms are open wide.

INSIGHT
The words “show favoritism” in Acts 10:34 are translated from the Greek prosopoleptes, a word which means to receive or show regard for someone because of rank, status, beauty, or popularity. This word is a combination of prosopon, which means “face” or “person”; and lambano, “to lay hold of.” Partiality (showing favoritism) does not characterize God, as we see in these verses: “As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism” (Galatians 2:6); “Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him” (Ephesians 6:9). Neither should favoritism characterize the followers of Jesus, as James 2:1 reminds us: “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.”

Topic: Dividends Of Dedication [Seeds of Destiny 10 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Isaiah 45:19.

Thought For The Day: Dedication attracts the Presence and Secrets of God to the dedicated.

In our study yesterday, we saw the need to seek God first above other things in life; we saw that people who seek God first in life never come out last in life. Therefore, dedication is key to distinction in life.

Today, it is very important to look at the dividends of seeking God first in life. There are dividends that are attached to the lifestyle of dedication to God. There are dividends to be enjoyed by the dedicated. God has not called us to seek Him in vain (Isaiah 45:19).

So, what are the dividends of dedication?
i. Access to God’s Presence and Secrets
Abraham had access to God’s Presence and Secrets because he was brutally dedicated to God. In Genesis 18:17-18, God revealed to him what He (God) wanted to do even when Abraham did not ask Him. So, dedication attracts the Presence and Secrets of God to the dedicated.

ii. Access to Supernatural Supplies in the midst of scarcity
When there was no food in the whole land of Israel, Elijah, a dedicated person and prophet of God, had continuous supernatural supplies; God sent a raven to feed him and also multiplied the food of the widow for his sake (1 Kings 17:11-16).

iii. Availability of God’s Presence and Power in the midst of challenges
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were cast into the burning fiery furnace as a result of their dedication to God but God stepped into the furnace with them to confirm that He does not abandon the dedicated (Daniel 3:25). When you are dedicated to God, He steps into every challenge of your life to rescue you.

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to be totally dedicated to God.

Remember this: Dedication attracts the Presence and Secrets of God to the dedicated.

Assignments:

1. Make up your mind to be dedicated to God at all cost.
2. Decide not to serve God because of what you can get from Him but for Who He is.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to be dedicated to You and committed to the cause of Your Kingdom. Help me to serve You unconditionally, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. – Isaiah 54:13

Too many Christian parents today are wasting time worrying about their children.

Years ago, Gloria and I saw the devil trying to get a foothold in our children’s lives, so one weekend we got our concordance and four or five translations of the Bible. We began to search out scriptures and write out agreement prayers concerning them.

We tore into the devil with the Word of God and started saying, “Thank God, our children are not going to hell. Thank God, they are taught of the Lord and great is their peace!” Instead of walking the floor and worrying about the problem, we walked the floor and praised God for the solution.

Things didn’t change instantly. We still had to go through some tough times, but the Word began to turn things around. Today, our children are serving God with all their hearts.

If your kids are headed for trouble, don’t waste time worrying. Start believing! Get the Word working in their lives. Bind the devil with it and tell him he can’t have them. Then follow the instructions in Matthew 9:38: “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, the he will send forth laborers” into the field who can reach your children. God knows who they’ll listen to, and He knows how to bring those people into your children’s lives at just the right time.

Grab hold of God’s Word, refuse to let go where your children are concerned—and sooner or later, that Word will grab hold of them.

Luke 1:80, “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.”

Text: Luke 1:57-80

John the Baptist had the most important job assignment ever given to any mortal in the history of the world. He was to prepare the way for the coming of the long awaited Messiah (v. 76).

How did the Lord prepare John for such an important task? What university could teach him all he needed to know? Who offered a course in becoming the greatest prophet who ever lived? (Mt. 11:11) Of course, no one could prepare John for such an important position, so the Lord taught him personally. John was in the deserts until he was thirty years old. He was tutored directly by the Lord through the Holy Spirit.

The personal touch of the Lord became very obvious. Six months after John began his ministry, the whole nation of Israel was experiencing revival and anticipating the coming of the Christ. When Jesus came, the Jews wondered how he could know things he was never taught (Jn. 7:15).

This special knowledge which comes directly from the Lord through the Holy Spirit is now available to every believer.

It’s a part of the new covenant (Heb. 8:11). The Holy Spirit has been sent to be our teacher, but we have to show up at class and expect to receive (Jn. 14:26). He’ll even show us things to come (Jn. 16:13).
