Andrew Wommack Devotional 8 January 2019 – Believers Receive

Topic: Believers Receive [Andrew Wommack Devotional 8 January 2019]

Luke 1:45, “And blessed [is] she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

Text: Luke 1:39-56

There are many reasons why God’s blessings don’t always come to pass in a person’s life, but the most frequent cause is simply unbelief on our part. There are no limitations on God’s part. He is willing and able to do anything He has promised. The problem is with our believing.

The Lord has given every believer faith (Rom. 12:3). It was given to us at salvation through hearing the Word of God (Eph. 2:8; Rom. 10:17). It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22). However, we must choose to exercise it.

Our faith is linked to our knowledge (2 Pet. 1:1-4). What we think on is how we will be (Pro. 23:7). The problem is not that we don’t have faith. The problem occurs when we don’t allow our faith to work because we don’t keep our minds stayed on God’s Word. Then our faith is choked out by the cares of this life (Mk. 4:19).

Keeping our minds stayed on God’s Word will release our faith and thereby release the power of God in our lives. Certainly Mary must have been a person who put God’s Word first in her life.

Mary saw a performance of what she believed. We receive what we believe, not what we desire or even need. Today believe the word that the Lord has spoken about you.

Billy Graham Devotional 8 January 2019 – He Hears Us

Topic: He Hears Us [Billy Graham Devotional 8 January 2019]

What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe . . . — Mark 11:24

We are to pray in times of adversity, lest we become faithless and unbelieving. We are to pray in times of prosperity, lest we become boastful and proud. We are to pray in times of danger, lest we become fearful and doubting. We need to pray in times of security, lest we become self-sufficient. Sinners, pray to a merciful God for forgiveness. Christians, pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit upon a willful, evil, unrepentant world. Parents, pray that God may crown your home with grace and mercy. Children, pray for the salvation of your parents. Christians, saints of God, pray that the dew of heaven may fall on earth’s dry, thirsty ground, and that righteousness may cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

Prayer for the day: Let me pour everything out to You, Lord. Thank You for the knowledge that You hear me!

‘I Am Free from Cancer,’ Switchfoot Musician Shares Following His Cancer Surgery

Jerome Fontamillas from the award-winning rock band Switchfoot, announced last month that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Now, less than a month later, he has announced that he is “free from cancer.”

On December 20, the band, whose members are often outspoken about their Christian Faith, announced the “sobering news” about Fontamillas on their Instagram account, the Christian Post reports. They wrote, “Important Update Regarding Jerome: Jon here, I’m always blown away by the incredible community that sings these songs with us. I got a call from Jerome a few weeks ago. He was calling with sobering news: he has cancer.”

Jon Foreman, the band’s frontman, continued, “The good news is that the cancer has not spread to his other organs. Removing one of his kidneys will hopefully be the first and final cure for Jerome’s fight with cancer. We ask that you join us in praying for our brother Jerome and his family during this difficult season.”

Nine days later, on December 29, the band shared that Fontamillas’ tumor had been “successfully removed.” They shared to Instagram, “Hello friends,

Christian MP gets 200 colleagues to urge PM to rule out ‘no-deal’

The cross-party politicians said they feared leaving the EU without securing a deal would lead to job losses and badly affect the UK’s manufacturing industry.

Dame Caroline Spelman, the Conservative politician and Christian, orchestrated the letter.

She told Premier life would get worse for many if the UK leaves the EU without an agreement on 29th March.

“This may not be a perfect deal but I think this is one where we need to actually really think about the true human cost of what we’re about to do and listen very carefully to what our heavenly father has to say,” she said.

“I’ve got unemployed workers coming into my constituency surgeries who’ve lost their jobs, who can’t pay their mortgages. This is not scare-mongering, this is the reality and it will get worse if we leave without a deal.”

All 209 signatories to the letter have been invited to meet the Prime Minister in Downing Street on Tuesday.

The letter comes as Mrs May is set to increase her efforts to persuade her Brexit critics and get guarantees from Brussels ahead of the vote on the blueprint of the deal on 15th January.

Dame Caroline highlighted the importance of MPs like Labour’s Jack Dromey (pictured above) signing the letter: “People keep saying to me, ‘come on you MPs, we want you to work together cross party’.

Chicago Bears Kicker Cody Parkey Misses Game Winning Kick but Still Praises God

Chicago Bears Kicker Cody Parkey Misses Game Winning Kick but Still Praises God

Athletes often point to the sky after scoring as a way to thank God. Chicago’s Cody Parkey, though, pointed heavenward Sunday after missing what would have been a game-winning kick against Philadelphia in the opening round of the NFL playoffs.

Parkey – who had made three field goals earlier in the game – then joined other Christian athletes midfield for a post-game prayer.

Plenty of sports fans noticed.

“Parkey’s reaction is a great reminder that there are many more important things than football,” Jason Romano of Sports Spectrum wrote on the organization’s website. Sports Spectrum covers Christian athletes, and Romano hosts a Sports Spectrum podcast. “Jesus remains on the throne in good times and bad.”

Philadelphia beat the Bears, 16-15, but Parkey’s missed kick with 10 seconds left likely would have won the game. The kick was merely inches from being good; it bounced off the left upright and then the crossbar before falling short. Philadelphia’s Treyvon Hester says he tipped it; replays appear to show he did.

After the miss, he slumped over in dejection. Teammates consoled him, and he then pointed to the sky.

“I feel terrible. I let the team down. It’s on me,” Parkey said. “… “Sun’s going to shine tomorrow. Life’s going to go on. Unfortunately, it’s going to sting for a while.”

Football fans on…

Pope appeals to EU leaders to help 49 stranded migrants ashore

The pontiff said the leaders should show “concrete solidarity” to provide “a safe port” for the stranded migrants on humanitarian rescue ships.

Both Italy and Malta have so far refused to allow the ships to land.

“I make a heartfelt appeal to European leaders to show concrete solidarity for these people,” the Pope told about 60,000 people in the Vatican’s St Peter’s Square in an Epiphany feast day address.

Speaking during an Epiphany feast day address to roughly 60,000 people in the Vatican’s St Peter’s Square, Pope Francis said: “I make a heartfelt appeal to European leaders to show concrete solidarity for these people.”

He added that they were only “seeking a safe port where they can disembark”.

Thirty-two people are on board the Dutch-registered vessel Sea-Watch 3, that’s run by a German humanitarian group, which rescued them from an unsafe boat off Libya on 22nd December.

There are three small children and four teenagers included on board. The second ship run by the German group Sea-Eye is carrying 17 people rescued on 29th December.

Malta has allowed the two ships to enter its waters but only for supplies and to shelter from bad weather.

Last week, a number of humanitarian groups, including Amnesty International and the United Nations’ International Organization for…

Super Wolf Blood Moon to Occur This Month, Is This a Sign of War in the Middle East?

Super Wolf Blood Moon to Occur This Month, Is This a Sign of War in the Middle East?

A Super Blood Wolf Moon is set to grace the night sky between January 20 and January 21 this year, and some are marking it as a sign of war in the Middle East.

First thing is first, what is a “Super Blood Wolf Moon?”

A Super Blood Wolf Moon is first a Super Moon. A Super Moon occurs when the moon is at the point in its orbit when it is closest to the Earth. According to USA Today, the moon can look up to 14 percent bigger during this point in its orbit.

Second, it is a Blood Moon. Blood Moons were given their name because of the brassy-red color the moon turns when the Earth blocks the majority of the sunlight from reaching it. Just like how your finger turns red when you press your finger against your phone light, the moon will shine as red because light is still passing through Earth’s atmosphere, only the blue is being filtered out, USA Today reports.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, a Full moon in January is called the Wolf Moon. The Almanac notes that this specific type of moon has been referred to as a Wolf Moon since Native American and Colonial times because it “appear[s] when wolves howled in hunger outside of villages.” Essentially the wolf part of the name refers to the fact the moon is full.

Now we have a massive, full, red-colored moon… so what? Well, it’s about to eclipse.

According to Mental Floss, the…

Donald Trump hails Middle East’s biggest cathedral

Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, a general-turned-president, has made sectarian harmony a cornerstone of his rule, fighting Islamic militancy while advocating equality between the overwhelming Muslim majority and Christians, who account for ten per cent of Egypt’s 100 million people.

“This is a historic and important moment,” said Mr el-Sissi inside the cathedral.

“But we still have to protect the tree of love we planted here together today because seditions never end.”

The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, the world’s primary seat of learning for Sunni Muslims, echoed Mr el-Sissi’s sentiments in comments also made at the cathedral.

The two places of worship, he said, stand as a symbol in the face of “attempts to undermine the country’s stability and sectarian seditions.”

Mr el-Sissi’s widely publicised policy to staunch sectarianism, however, has done little to protect Christians in rural Egypt, where Muslim extremists frequently attack their homes and businesses or force them to leave their homes after violent disputes.

Could the next Archbishop of York be a woman?

William Hill has named the bishops of London and Ripon – Rt Rev Sarah Mullally and Rt Rev Dr Helen-Ann Hartley (pictured below), and the Bishop of Chelmsford, Rt Rev Stephen Cottrell – as the joint 3-1 front-runners for the soon-to-be vacant post.

Dr John Sentamu announced last year that he will retire from his post as Archbishop of York on 7th June 2020, three days before his 71st birthday- honouring the custom for a bishop to retire by their 70th birthday.

The appointments will be made by the Crown Nominations Commission (CNC).

The public won’t know who the official frontrunners are until the CNC’s final announcement that is due to be made by the end of this year.

anglican

The bishops of Manchester, Leeds, Ely, Gloucester (pictured above) and Derby have also been named as favourites by the bookmaker.

The CNC will meet privately in autumn to draw up a shortlist from names put forward by nomination commission members who include a dean, two priests and three lay people.

After interviews and a vote by secret ballot, the CNC must choose a preferred choice and an alternative by a two-thirds majority.

The names will then be sent to the prime minister who passes this on to the Queen.

French cardinal on trial accused of church sex abuse cover-up

The case is France’s most important church sex abuse case to date and poses a new challenge to the Vatican, amid growing demands in overwhelmingly Catholic France for a reckoning with decades of sexual abuse by the clergy.

Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, 68, appeared in a Lyon (pictured below) court along with other senior church officials accused of failing to protect children from alleged abuse by the Rev Bernard Preynat.

The top Vatican official in charge of sex abuse cases, Cardinal Luis Ladaria, is among the accused – but will not appear in court because the Vatican invoked his diplomatic immunity.

After taking his seat in the front row, Barbarin held his hands together and closed his eyes, as if in prayer.

The judge then read out the lengthy accusations against the defendants, and the defence used procedural arguments to try to get the case thrown out.

Nine people who said Preynat abused them in the 1970s and 1980s brought the case to court, and hope it marks a turning point in efforts to hold the French church hierarchy accountable for hushing up abuse.

The victims say top clergy were aware of Preynat’s actions for years, but allowed him to be in contact with children until his 2015 retirement.

Despite nationwide attention on the case, it may fall apart for legal reasons.

Prosecutors initially threw it out for…
