The Facebook video shows the motorist’s car driving through fast-moving flames on the highway near the town of Paradise where five people were found dead in vehicles that were torched by fire.

In the clip, the driver says, “That sucks, people are going to lose some houses” as a woman sitting in the back of the car cries.

The woman then prays: “Heavenly father, please help us. Please help us to be safe.

“I’m grateful for Jeremy and his willingness to be brave.”

The couple in the car have since confirmed they are safe.

There are three major fires burning in California, with one destroying an entire town and killing nine people.

Officials say 200-thousand people have been forced to leave their homes, including the resort of Malibu, home to Hollywood stars.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s claiming the “gross mismanagement of forests” is to blame for California’s wildfires.

In a tweet, the President threatened to end funding for forest management unless things improve.

The judges said they were impressed by the cathedral’s ability to attract a wide variety of people and visiting groups, its strong commitment to volunteering and the services held.

The Dean of Blackburn, the Very Rev Peter Howell-Jones and the Executive Director, Sharon Grayston accepted the prize at the Marketing Lancashire awards ceremony on Wednesday evening.

The Dean said: “The judges also said that the Cathedral had clearly become a catalyst for the transformation of Blackburn town centre, which we found particularly satisfying.”

The Cathedral team of the Dean, Grayston, and Canon Rowena Pailing, were questioned by a panel of seven judges, who later paid an unannounced visit to the Cathedral as part of the judging process.

Very Rev Howell-Jones added: “We were the only visible Christian organization in a room full of more than 500 people, representing more than 100 organisations.

“Cathedrals are both tourist and cultural venues, and here was an opportunity to explain what we do and how we do it. The judges clearly liked what they heard and saw when they visited us.”

His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos’ comments follow the Government’s announcement on Friday that it is going to spend £12 million promoting freedom of religion or belief around the world.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Archbishop Angaelos said that without an expression to describe Christian persecution, it was “left to happen” and is “not seen as the phenomenon which we know it is”.

“We know it’s a phenomenon in many countries, just as deplorable as anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and anything else that targets people precisely for their faith and so therefore must be addressed at the same level.”

The Archbishop claimed a new phrase would allow people of “all faiths” to work together to stop the persecution of Christians in a simpler way.

He added: “You can’t have a hashtag that says ‘persecution of Christians…x, y or z’.”

Asked if he had thought of a suitable word or phrase, the Archbishop said: “Not yet…this can’t be mine, I can’t own it alone.”

The book was created by Reverend Andrew Hunter, minister of Kirkton United Free Church in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, who served alongside the troops in France from August to October 1915 and survived.

He compiled the roll to honour the courage of the 123 men from the church who served, 23 of whom did not survive.

Carluke, dubbed the “town called courage”, is the birthplace of three men who were awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) and businessman Sir Angus Grossart has gifted road signs in honour of the men, who all have streets named after them.

The roll of honour contains the names and photographs of five members of the family of Janie Stewart, 101, who all survived the war and returned to Carluke.

Wilson, Andrew and William Brooks were brothers – and Ms Stewart’s uncles – and Alexander and Robert Brooks were her cousins.

Ms Stewart, who has been a member of what is now KirktonChurch of Scotland all her life, said her prized copy was gifted to her uncle Andrew “in recognition of his service in the Great War”.

Reverend Iain Cunningham, minister of Kirkton Church, said: “The book produced at the end of the First World War is a thoughtful and respectful memorial to the 123 young men from Kirkton who answered the call to serve.

Jack Dillon Young, 21, of Leakey, Texas, was sentenced after pleading no contest on May 31 to 13 counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

He had faced up to 270 years in prison after a three-day sentencing hearing.

Prosecutors said Young was driving his pick-up while under the influence of a prescription sedative and had smoked marijuana before colliding with a church bus in March 2017 near Uvalde, about 75 miles west of San Antonio.

Defence lawyer Rogelio Munoz asked for mercy and said doctors did not properly monitor Young’s prescription drug use.

Young’s family members testified that the family was rendered dysfunctional by alcohol and drug abuse.

Young told state District Judge Camile DuBose that a man was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for sexually abusing him and numerous other boys.

Young testified that he had struggled since that episode with mental and emotional trauma, contemplating suicide and taking prescription anti-anxiety medication as well as self-medicating with marijuana and alcohol.

“You can never get the feeling of dirtiness off of you,” he said.
