Text: 1 Kings 19:1-10 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?“ (1 Kings 19:9).

MESSAGE:

Elijah had doubtless fought a good fight of faith by single-handedly defeating, disgracing and destroying 450 prophets of Baal at the contest on Mount Carmel. Jezebel, the wicked wife of King Ahab, was most aggrieved and thus sent a threatening message to Elijah for what the great prophet had done. She swore never to stop until she destroyed Elijah.

Elijah seemed to have forgotten that the God of heaven who granted him victory on Mount Carmel was still there to protect him. He forgot that God would never lose any battle. As Elijah fled, God reckoned that he was running away from the path of duty and therefore was not in a place he was supposed to be at that point in time. For this reason, God asked him a pertinent question, “What doest thou here, Elijah?” Elijah’s great faith on Mount Carmel seemed to have vaporised at Horeb, the Mount of God.

The great questions every believer should ask himself or herself now are: Am I where I should be? Am I still on the path of duty? Am I planning to run away from where God is using me for His glory because of fear or a threat from a Jezebel or from any wicked personality? Am I planning to quit the ministry because of despair? The counsel of God for you is that you should not allow the fear of man to distract you because the fear of man brings one into a snare and perdition. As a child of God, you should not allow despair or success in ministry to hinder you from continuing in the work of the Lord.

Victors! More than conquerors! That’s what the Bible says we are. I know you’ve heard that many times before, but today I want you to let the reality of it really sink in. I want you to spend some time meditating about what those terms actually mean.

The dictionary says that victory means “final and complete supremacy or superiority in battle or war, success in any contest or struggling involving the defeat of an opponent or the overcoming of obstacles.”

To conquer means “to get the better of in competition or struggle, to master, suppress, prevail over, overwhelm, surmount, to gain superiority, to subdue, to vanquish, to crush, to defeat.”

Once you get those definitions firmly in mind, you’ll realize in Jesus you’ve gotten much more than a ticket to heaven. You’ve gotten the best of the world you’re living in now. Through Him, you’ve overcome it, mastered it, suppressed it and prevailed over it.

No wonder 1 Corinthians 15:57 shouts, “Thanks be to God Who gives us the victory, [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ” (The Amplified Bible)!

Why don’t you shout too! Shout thanks to God today for making you an overcomer. Praise Him that you are joined up with the One who has conquered the world, the flesh and the devil. Shout hallelujah and enjoy the victory!

John 16:8 “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:“

Text: John 16:8

It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to reprove sin, righteousness, and judgment. It is not our ministry. We are simply witnesses. A witness is not the judge or the jury. A witness simply relates what he has experienced, thereby providing evidence to the truth of something. We are to witness in word and deed, to the truth of Jesus being alive in us and let God be the one who convicts. We are simply to testify to what we have seen or to what has happened to us.

Some people in their zeal, have gone beyond the witness stage and have tried to bring people under conviction themselves. This is assuming the job that belongs to the Holy Spirit alone. This not only frustrates the witness but it drives many people away from God. We make a very poor Holy Spirit; therefore, we should stick to our job of being a witness and let the Holy Spirit do His job.

Jesus specified an orderly progression in the way we should witness. First we start in Jerusalem (i.e. where we are). Then we go to those nearby (Judaea).

Finally, we take the gospel to every religious and racial group (Samaria) throughout the whole world.

There are some very practical reasons for becoming witnesses in this way.

Jesus testified that a prophet is honored everywhere except in his home town among his family and friends. Typically, at home is the hardest place to witness. Starting with those who know us best will cause us to humble ourselves and give God all the glory. Also, if rejection comes, this tempers us and our witness, so that we will be more effective and more resilient when we go to the outer most parts of the earth.

Thousands of young couples go through with a loveless marriage because no one ever told them what genuine love is. I believe we need to read the 13th chapter of First Corinthians, in which the Apostle Paul gives us a definition of love. He says, “Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” If people today knew that kind of love, the divorce rate would be sharply reduced.

Prayer for the day: Lord Jesus, we need Your love and forgiveness in our hearts, if we are to love unselfishly.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Kamil and Joelle were devastated when their eight-year-old daughter Rima was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. The disease led to meningitis and a stroke, and Rima lapsed into a coma. The hospital medical team counseled her parents to make arrangements for Rima’s funeral, giving her less than a one percent chance of survival.

Kamil and Joelle fasted and prayed for a miracle. “As we pray,” Kamil said, “we need to trust God no matter what. And pray like Jesus—not my way, Father, but Yours.” “But I want so much for God to heal her!” Joelle answered honestly. “Yes! And we should ask!” Kamil responded. “But it honors God when we give ourselves to Him even when it’s hard, because that’s what Jesus did.”

Before Jesus went to the cross, He prayed: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). By praying “take this cup,” Jesus asked not to go to the cross; but He submitted to the Father out of love.

Surrendering our desires to God isn’t easy, and His wisdom can be difficult to understand in challenging moments. Kamil and Joelle’s prayers were answered in a remarkable way—Rima is a healthy fifteen year old today.

Jesus understands every struggle. Even when, for our sake, His request was not answered, He showed us how to trust our God in every need.

Prayer: I want to be “all in” for You, Father. I trust in Your unfailing love and give myself to You as Your servant today.

God always deserves our commitment and praise.

INSIGHT:

Today’s reading shows us the dramatic scene of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, facing the horrors of the cross. Not only was it one of the most painful and excruciating means of execution invented by the Romans, but for our Lord it would mean taking the sins of the world upon Himself. Just prior to His crucifixion, we witness the Son’s mysterious request of His Father. Christ asked if the cup of crucifixion could be taken from Him. Yet our Lord yielded His will to the Father knowing that it was His mission on Earth to redeem all who would believe in His sacrificial death. The lesson for us is significant. Even when we face terrible suffering, we know God can deliver us; however, we must also trust Him if He chooses not to. Only by holding our Father’s hand in the valley can we endure to see the light of the mountaintop ahead.

Scripture: Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes…and the king thought to set him over the whole realm…forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. Daniel 6:3-4

Thought For The Day: Your voice of authority is amplified by the weight of your reliability.

Reliability refers to the quality of being trustworthy, faithful, dutiful or dependable before God and man in all you do.

From our anchor Scripture, we can see that forasmuch as Daniel was faithful or reliable, the king placed him in authority. Therefore, reliability is key to authority. Nothing takes a person up in life like faithfulness. Thus, the limit of your reliability is the limit of your authority.

Nothing gives voice like authority, and nothing reduces a person’s voice like mediocrity. Your voice of authority is amplified by the weight of your reliability. Nobody can be in authority who is not reliable. That is why it is a pity for any nation to have her leader sponsored into authority on the platform of corruption and mediocrity and not on the basis of mentality and reliability. Scarcity and underdevelopment can’t be far from such a nation.

I prophesy to Nigeria and to other African nations that the days where people of low quality mentality rule over high quality thinkers and excellent people have ended. God shall empower the reliable, faithful, excellent and the dutiful to take over authority in such nations, in Jesus’ Name.

My counsel is, be reliable and faithful to God, yourself, your family and other people.

Remember This: Your voice of authority is amplified by the weight of your reliability.

Assignments:

1. Determine to be a reliable and faithful person to God, yourself, spouse, children and other people.
2. Live your life to such a point that people can trust you even when you are not with them.

Prayer: Lord, I make demands on Your grace to be reliable, dependable and faithful to You and to people around me. Deliver me from an existence in mediocrity Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 28 October 2018 Sunday MESSAGE:

In today’s memory verse, the Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as never changing. If you can catch a revelation of what this means in your spirit, your life will never remain the same. One benefit of His eternal consistency is that the works He did over two thousand years ago, He can still do today in the lives of those who believe and are yielded to him. Not only are His works unchanging, His word also never changes. No wonder the Holy Spirit said in Psalm 119:89:

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

If you want your life to be built on a sure foundation in this world of uncertainties, then build your life on His word. When you live by the word of God which is forever settled in heaven, it will cause you to remain relevant forever. If you want your life endeavours to outlive you, make sure they are founded on God’s word. I am appealing to you today to embrace the word of God which is forever settled. The world we live in is changing but God never changes, and His standard never changes either. For example, thousands of years after God commanded Abraham to walk before Him and be perfect, Jesus Christ came and echoed the same words to His disciples (Genesis 17:1, Matthew 5:48).

In our Bible text today, we have fundamental truths that cannot be wished away if you want to forever remain relevant spiritually and in the kingdom of heaven. It says:

“16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” – James 1:16-18

One of the truths contained in this scripture is that every good and perfect gift is from God, the Father of lights. You know He is your Father indeed, when like Him you illuminate the darkness of this world. Another of these truths is that this Father of lights does not change, and there is no shadow of turning with Him. As human beings, we may restructure, modernize, amplify and contextualize His printed word in our hands, but His original word is forever the same with Him in heaven. Lastly, the most effective instrument He has been using since the world began is His word (John 1:13). Through this same word are we born again and made perfect. His word is indeed magnified above His Name (Psalm 138:2). Beloved, the extent of your relevance depends on the extent to which your life complies with the word of God. Do you abide by His word?
