New Law Requires Chinese Christians Fully Submit to Communist Party

New Law Requires Chinese Christians Fully Submit to Communist Party

The Chinese government has tightened its reign on its citizens by announcing that all religious personnel of any faith must submit to and evangelize about the Chinese Communist Party.

“In practice, your religion no longer matters, if you are Buddhist, or Taoist, or Muslim, or Christian: the only religion allowed is faith in the Chinese Communist Party,” said a Chinese Catholic priest, according to CBN.

Starting on Feb 1, all religious groups must adhere to the new rules, which consist of six chapters and 41 articles. They require government approval for any type of gathering and total submission to the Communist Party.

One law, Article 17, states: “Religious organizations must spread the principles and policies of the Chinese Communist Party, as well as national laws, regulations, rules to religious personnel and religious citizens, educating religious personnel and religious citizens to support the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, supporting the socialist system, adhering to and following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics…”

Manuscripts from each religion are also not immune to censorship. The Daily Mail reports that the Communist Party intends to complete a “comprehensive evaluation of the existing religious classics aiming at contents which do not conform to the progress of the times.” As Christian Headlines previously reported, this means that…

Bethel Music Artist Clings to Gratitude after Death of Two-Year-Old Daughter

Bethel Music Artist Clings to Gratitude after Death of Two-Year-Old Daughter

Bethel Music artist Kalley Heiligenthal has chosen hope and gratitude after requesting global prayers for her two-year-old daughter’s resurrection.

“I can access the searing shock of the last couple weeks and stop there, but if I push one step further, 2019 is overwhelmingly saturated with treasured memories I would never trade and will fight to cherish. So I choose tender thankfulness,” she said in a vulnerable Instagram post.

Olive, Kalley’s daughter, was found not breathing in early December and later declared dead by doctors. But the musician and her husband issued an urgent prayer request for her resurrection.

“We believe in a Jesus who died and conclusively defeated every grave, holding the keys to resurrection power,” Kalley said, as previously reported by Christian Headlines. “We are asking for bold, unified prayers from the global church to stand with us in belief that He will raise this little girl back to life. Her time here is not done, and it is our time to believe boldly, and with confidence wield what King Jesus paid for. It’s time for her to come to life.”

But, after a week, the family decided to hold a memorial service and funeral for Olive, Faithwire reports.

“Since learning the news of two-year-old Olive Heiligenthal’s sudden death, we have sought a miracle from God to raise her from the dead,” said a statement from Bethel. “…Here is…

New Massachusetts ‘Roe Act’ Will Permit Abortions after 24 Weeks

New Massachusetts ‘Roe Act’ Will Permit Abortions after 24 Weeks

A new bill proposed in the Massachusetts state legislature would allow doctors to sign off on abortions after 24 weeks of gestation if it is determined that “the abortion is necessary to protect the patient’s life or physical or mental health.”

The current legal framework in the state allows abortion for any reason prior to fetal viability, which is dated at between 22 and 24 weeks gestation. The bill, named the “Roe Act,” adopts an extremely wide definition of mental health, saying that it relates to “all factors — physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the person’s age — relevant to the well-being of the patient.”

The implications of this definition mean that late-term abortions may become significantly easier to obtain.

“This lenient definition essentially allows for abortion on demand up until the moment of birth,” noted National Review staff writer Alexandra DeSanctis.

In addition, the Roe Act would also allow abortions to take place after the viability threshold if the doctor deems the fetus “incompatible with sustained life outside the uterus.”

“Though the right to abortion is already protected by the Massachusetts state constitution, this legislation would enshrine that right in law as well,” DeSanctis noted of the new proposal.

According to LifeNews, in addition, the new law “eliminates the parental-consent requirement for a minor girl…

56 Killed, More than 200 Injured in Stampede during Qassem Soleimani’s Funeral Procession

56 Killed, More than 200 Injured in Stampede during Qassem Soleimani’s Funeral Procession

A stampede at a funeral for a top Iranian general killed at least 56 people and injured some 200 people, according to reports.

The stampede broke out as the funeral procession for Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani began in Kerman, Iran, the general’s hometown.

“Unfortunately as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions,” said Pirhossein Koulivand, head of Iran’s emergency medical services.

Iranian State TV said 56 were killed and 213 were injured.

Soleimani’s burial has been postponed, the ISNA news agency said. He is set to be buried between the graves of Enayatollah Talebizadeh and Mohammad Hossein Yousef Elahi, two former Guard soldiers killed in Iran’s 1980s war with Iraq.

Iranian police said millions had gathered in the Iranian capital to mourn the general on Monday. The Associated Press estimated the crowd was about 1 million people.

Soleimani was praised by Iranians as a hero for his work leading the Guard’s expeditionary Quds Force, but U.S. forces said he was responsible for the killing of American troops in Iraq and that he was plotting new attacks.

He was killed Friday in a U.S. drone strike at Baghdad’s airport.

In response, many Iranians are calling for retaliation against America.

“We tell our enemies that we will retaliate but if they take another…

Seattle Seahawks’ Stars Shine a Light on Christ

Seattle Seahawks’ Stars Shine a Light on Christ

On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks scored a super-sized shot at a Super Bowl victory. But throughout the year, several players have showed a higher priority over tackles and scorecards: a love for God and for people.

CBN reported that during the recent contentious game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was injured after a helmet-to-helmet hit and taken out of the game. After the Seahawks’ win over Wentz’s team, Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson sought out the opposing team’s coach to give him a hug and inquire after Wentz.

“Real one,” SportsCenter tweeted in response to Wilson’s inquiry.

Wilson has always been open about his Christian faith. According to Beliefnet, he chose the number three on his jersey to “honor the Holy Trinity” and visits the Seattle Children’s Hospital every week on his day off.

Across the field as a wide receiver, Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett has used his football platform to share the gospel.

“The one thing that keeps you going is to have faith in God and that Jesus came and died for everything. He’s given you the things that you need to live a fulfilled, thankful life!” he told CBN.

In an Instagram post featuring a photo of him in the end zone with arms outstretched, Lockett penned a “Letter to God”, promising that he’s “here to stay!”

To garner a win for the Seahawks against the Eagles, Lockett was targeted 18 times and…

Market Place Believed to Be 2,000-Years-Old Is Discovered in Jerusalem

Market Place Believed to Be 2,000-Years-Old Is Discovered in Jerusalem

A team of archeologists from the Israeli Antiquities Authority believe they have discovered a 2,000-year-old market near where Jesus himself would have walked in the city of Jerusalem.

The excavations, which took place in the City of David National Park, uncovered a series of stone measurement weights and a table-top, indicating that this was once a bustling marketplace, located in Jerusalem’s lower city.

“This is a rare find,” Prof. Ronny Reich, who is researching the discovery, told the Jerusalem Post. “Other stone artifacts were very popular in Jerusalem during the Second Temple [era]. However, so far, excavations in Jerusalem have only uncovered two similar tables that were used for measuring volume – one during the 1970s in the Jewish Quarter excavations, and another in the Shuafat excavations, in northern Jerusalem.”

Reich further described the artifacts to Israel National News, noting that the tables were perfect for market selling, boasting “deep cavities… each with a drain at its bottom.”

“The drain at the bottom could be plugged with a finger, filled with a liquid of some type, and once the finger was removed, the liquid could be drained into a container, therefore determining the volume of the container, using the measurement table as a uniform guideline,” he added. “This way, traders could calibrate their measuring instruments using a uniform standard.”

Church of the Year – ThomRainer.com

by Thom Rainer

Every church faithfully engaging their community for the gospel deserves to be Church of the Year. Pastors and lay leaders all over the country are taking the time to plow the fields and sow seed. The work is hard and isn’t always immediately fruitful.

The Church Answers team and Revitalize Network have come together to create an award to recognize the faithful work of churches seeking to share the redemptive love of Jesus.

We would love to highlight every story, but we are limited to just a few. Do you know of a church who has…

  • faced insurmountable odds?
  • moved from flatlined to flourishing?
  • a Godly pastor or lay leader needing recognition?
  • seen a movement of God?

Churches will be awarded in six different categories based on church size. Final nominees will be announced in March, and awards will be presented at Revitalize 2020 on April 20-21.

The six categories are

  • Churches <100
  • Churches 100 to 199
  • Churches 200 to 299

Video of Joy-Filled Chick-fil-A Worker Goes Viral with 500,000 Views

Video of Joy-Filled Chick-fil-A Worker Goes Viral with 500,000 Views

A Facebook video of a cheerful Chick-fil-A employee has gone viral and is receiving nationwide attention thanks to the worker’s constant smile and upbeat attitude.

Jeremiah Murrill, who works at a Chick-fil-A in Wilmington, N.C., was filmed by a regular customer in the drive-thru taking her order. She posted it on Facebook, and it subsequently passed 500,000 views within three weeks.

WWAY-TV in Wilmington interviewed him for a story, which was picked up by CNN.

Always wearing a big smile, the joyful Murrill fills his conversations with words like “awesome” and “amazing” and phrases like “yes ma’am” and “yes sir.”

Each time the customer in the video lists a food choice, he keys it in and asks through a smile, “How else may I serve you?”

“Luv this young man he [is] like this ALL the time … A1 services all day everyday (sic),” wrote Toya Liles, who asked Murrill if she could film the exchange.

At the end of the order, he fist bumps each person in the car.

“You guys are awesome!” he says. “Thanks so much for choosing Chick-fil-A.”

He told WWAY he eventually wants to own his own Chick-fil-A franchise while “incorporating ministry and music.”

“Your actions, your behavior, or the way you say something – the way you interact with people – it matters. It transforms a day” Murrill said. “I serve a lot of guests. I try to remember each and every…

Police in Uttar Pradesh, India, Most Harsh on Christians, Sources Say

Police in Uttar Pradesh, India, Most Harsh on Christians, Sources Say

HYDERABAD, India, January 6, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Police in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh state work in tandem with Hindu extremists to treat Christians and other religious minorities especially harshly, sources said.

“The UP police force is very different from the rest of India,” Dinanath Jaiswar, a volunteer with legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom-India, told Morning Star News. “They are very brash in their dealings with Muslim and Christian minorities, and there have been several cases of violence in police custody, but by God’s grace we have tried our best to reach them on time, and even while in the clutches of the enemy, God protects His people.”

From April 2017 to February 2018, India’s National Human Rights Commission registered 365 cases of judicial and custodial deaths in Uttar Pradesh, according to The Indian Express; the next highest amount was 127 cases in West Bengal state.

“It does not take long for a police officer here to lose his temper and thrash a person in custody,” Jaiswar said.

Most cases reported against police stations in several Uttar Pradesh districts fell under the categories of torture, infliction of injury and grievous hurt, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.

“It has become a trend that a batch of Hindu extremists barge inside Christian homes and accuse them of proselytizing Hindus to Christianity,”…

‘We’ve just had the best decade in human history’: Finding providence in surprising places

If a news story claimed we just experienced the best decade in human history, would you believe it? Consider this evidence in the Spectator and Axios:

  • Extreme poverty has fallen below 10 percent of the world’s population for the first time (it was 35 percent in 1987).
  • Child mortality has fallen to record low levels.
  • Famine has virtually gone extinct.
  • Malaria, polio, and heart disease are all in decline.
  • Half of the world is now middle class or wealthier.
  • Mortality rates for women and infants have been halved since 1990.
  • Primary education has become near-universal in nearly all of the world.

In addition, the average income of the world’s bottom 50 percent earners nearly doubled between 1980 and 2016.

“Good news is no news”

Why, then, is frustration so high these days? According to Gallup, Americans are among the most stressed people in the world. The younger we are, the angrier and more worried and stressed we are.

One explanation is that, as the Spectator article observes, “good news is no news.” Geopolitical researchers Stephen Soukup and Mark Melcher note in a recent email essay that “there is a bias among the media in favor of stories that are ugly, dark, or bloody. Conflict, dissension, and frustration sell newspapers—or advertising spots, as the case may be.”

Soukup and Melcher discuss a second factor as well: our perceived loss of control over our lives and world. They note that we have created enormous bureaucracies to accomplish all sorts of tasks and services such as air travel, internet communications, health care provision, and public defense. Each does something we do not know how to do, from flying an airplane to managing the digital infrastructure.

Thus, we feel impotent to manage our world and frustrated when it does not (indeed, cannot) fulfill our wishes for it.

One frustration behind our frustration is that this nameless, faceless bureaucracy is beyond our accountability or control. Soukup…
