Mexico’s President-Elect Promises $7.5 Billion for Youth Job Training & Aid to the Elderly – Urban Christian News

President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador promised $7.5 billion for youth job training and aid to the elderly Wednesday, keystone programs that could make Mexico’s business sector one of the biggest beneficiaries of his first year in office.

Lopez Obrador pledged the government would pay the salaries of apprentices employed by Mexican companies as part of a $5 billion package of scholarships and job training.

The once-fiery leftist met with Mexican businessmen on Wednesday in a surprisingly chummy encounter where he sealed the job-training deal in a handshake with business chamber leader Juan Pablo Castanon.

The programs for the elderly and youths will be the cornerstones of Lopez Obrador’s first year in office, which starts when he takes office Dec. 1.

“We will have to come up with this funding … even if we are left without a shirt on our backs,” Lopez Obrador vowed. The president-elect — whose victory must still be certified by electoral authorities and the courts — implied that most of his other campaign promises will be left to later years in office. Lopez Obrador was elected in a landslide Sunday.

Lopez Obrador pledged $2 billion to extend and increase old-age supplementary payments to the elderly so that every Mexican over 68 will receive at least the equivalent of $2.25 per day.

The elderly payments initially started in Mexico City when Lopez Obrador was mayor in the early 2000s, but he has now pledged to fund them at the same level as in the capital — currently about $60 per month — nationwide.

But the youth program appeared to be a big gift to the…

Bishops call for peace as another priest shot dead

According to Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (CAN), Fr Firmin Gbagoua, Vicar General of Bambari Diocese, was shot several times in the stomach while eating dinner.

Members of a militia calling itself the Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC) are thought to be responsible for the incident on 29th June.

Fr Gbagoua is the third priest to be killed in the Central African Republic this year.

In a statement, the Central African Bishops’ Conference (ECSC) strongly condemned the killings.

“We strongly call on the government and MINUSCA [United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic] to coordinate their efforts so that those responsible for these murders will be arrested and brought to justice.”

They added: “Who does all this violence against the Catholic Church of Central Africa benefit?”

As tensions have steadily increased in the country, the Church has called for calm and urged Christians not to retaliate against members of the Muslim community, as UPC members come from the Islamic Fulani ethnic group.

“We urge the entire Christian community to remain calm and in prayer so as not to fall into the trap of those who want to show that Christians and Muslims can no longer live together in order to partition the Central African nation,” they said.

There have been a number of recent outbreaks of…

Standing Ovation Following Valentino’s Collection Caps Paris Couture Week – Urban Christian News

Rarely does the demure Paris couture week see a standing ovation.

Even rarer is the whooping and screaming that echoed around the gilded salons of the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild as Pierpaolo Piccioli took his bow following Valentino’s collection Wednesday evening.

Mika, Valentino Garavani, Natalia Vodianova and Tracee Ellis Ross all got to their feet as the rousing operatic voice of Maria Callas played out the sumptuous creations from what was the week’s strongest collection.

Here are some highlights of the last day of haute couture week fall-winter displays.

___

VALENTINO’S OPERA

With the stirring aria of “Casta Diva,” the couture seemed to take as its starting point the glory days of the height of legend Callas’ career in the 1960s.

Giant brushed-back wig hair and an unstructured celadon blue silk gown with intricate intarsia cape opened the 63-look show in that era’s exaggerated style. It took 1,120 hours to make.

Large round multicolored floral headpieces continued the retro feel.

Loose, exaggerated plays on proportion then followed.

Gargantuan scarf-wraps surrounded the body — and one, in vermilion, came actually attached across the bust.

Bows at the collar in mikado, one in fluorescent yellow, were so big they finished at the hip.

Despite the size, the looks were never over-theatrical as Piccioli ensured to keep the proportions balanced from top to bottom, and in keeping with the models’ body size.

One floor-sweeping triangular feather dress could have been overpowering, but was modelled on 5ft 10 inch model Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s daughter, with…

Don’t check England’s World Cup quarter final score, Church tells wedding guests

Guests have been urged by Church leaders to be “fully on-side with the happy couple” by switching their phones off before the service starts, however conflicted they may feel about missing England’s game against Sweden.

Rev Sandra Millar, the Church’s head of life events, told The Telegraph: “For those attending a wedding service at 3pm, I’d strongly encourage you to make sure you are fully on-side with the happy couple and switch off your mobile phone in advance.

Millions of people are expected to watch England take on Sweden in the third quarter final match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Kick-off at the Samara Stadium is at 3pm UK time – a popular time for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Rev Millar added: “For those getting married on Saturday, like England fans, you might experience a few nerves – but you can be sure that it will also be the best day of your life, with memories to cherish. Who knows, come 6pm, that may be something you share with the rest of the nation too.”

Saturday’s match will mark the first time England has reached the last-eight of a World Cup since Germany hosted the tournament in 2006. England last reached the semi-finals in 1990 when Italy hosted the tournament.

The Five Greatest Fears of Replanting a Church

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

Mark Clifton joins us to discuss the most common fears pastors in revitalizations and replants have.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM CLYDE

Our church once had a pastor who walked on eggshells all the time. He was afraid of upsetting people both in the community and in the church. He was paralyzed by fear. Is that something that’s common with those in church revitalization? What fears do pastors have when trying to revitalize or replant a church?

Episode Highlights:

  • No pastor wants to be the last pastor of a church.
  • If God has placed you as pastor at a church, He’s got a reason for you to be there at that specific time.
  • Pastors shouldn’t play the blame game if the church they lead doesn’t have what they would consider adequate resources.
  • Daniel slept in the lions’ den, so can you.
  • If you’re pastoring in a revitalization, you need to preach, pray, love, and stay.

The five fears we discuss are:

  1. Fear of failure. What happens if the church fails?
  2. Fear of inadequate resources
  3. Fear of my family not adjusting
  4. Fear of burnout
  5. Fear of the long-term commitment required

Resources mentioned in this episode include:

Revitalize & Replant is sponsored by the North American Mission Board and ChurchReplanters.com. More than 10% of churches in North America are at risk of closing and the North American Mission Board is committed to reversing this trend by decreasing the death rate of existing churches while…

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Thursday, 5 July 2018 – Dedicated To God

TOPIC: Dedicated To God (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Thursday, 5 July 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 2: 46-52

MEMORY VERSE: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” – Luke 2:52

The MESSAGE:

When babes are born unto families, they bring a lot of joy to both parents and neighbours. On the day of their christening, people gather to celebrate with the parents and for the first time they learn the names of the babies. Also, on the 41st day, the babies are brought into the house of the Lord for dedication. What a glorious day it is for the church of God, parents and well-wishers. The man of God dedicates each baby unto the Lord, reads Psalm 19, prays and presents a Bible gift to each baby in the full view of the people of God. Thereafter, the choir sings the hallelujah anthem. What a glorious and happy event.

Jesus Christ who is our perfect example was also brought to the temple and dedicated to the Lord. He also came with His parents to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. One year, when Jesus was twelve years old, He came to the temple and sat with the doctors listening to them and asking them questions. When His father and mother found Him, He told them respectfully that he must be after his father’s business. The memory verse reveals that Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and man.

Growth reveals your real person. As men grow, they grow into someone. That great man of God was once an innocent baby, and that notorious robber was also once a sweet child to behold. The difference between the two lies in whom they were dedicated to on the day of birth. Everybody is growing day after day.
Some people grow to become a blessing to the world and others become terror, some into glory and others into shame.

The power to make anyone grow, increase in favour and fulfill destiny begins from the day of christening and whether the individual was dedicated to God. A baby can grow, increasing in wisdom and stature and receiving favour from God, only if he is dedicated to God. If you do not know to whom you were dedicated then ask your parents. Otherwise dedicate yourself anew to God. Your pastor can help you.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
EVERYONE BORN INTO THIS WORLD IS DEDICATED TO SOMETHING, EITHER GOOD OR EVIL.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Power of evil dedication upon your life is broken today.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. My Father, thank You for revealing deep and secret things unto me, in Jesus’ name.
2. Holy Ghost, reveal to me what happened on my day of christening, in Jesus’ name.
3. I dedicate myself to God, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Battles from my childhood confronting my destiny, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. My foundation, receive fire, in the name of Jesus.
6. Anything evil I was fed with on my christening day, come out of my life and die, in Jesus’ name.
7. Holy Ghost fire, purge my life, in the name of Jesus.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 5 July 2018 Devotional — Adventurous

Topic: Adventurous [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Thursday July 5, 2018]

…Then shall your light break forth like the dawn… — Isaiah 58:8

Adventurous means to be “inclined or willing to incur hazard; bold to encounter danger; daring; courageous; enterprising.”

Every human being wants to be free. We want to try new things, to be bold and fearless, to live an exciting, adventurous life.

We were created by God to have goals and to press toward them, and to dream of bigger and better things than what we have ever known. But fear and doubt can leave us frozen in place, unable to do much of anything except be idle and alone with our torment. As long as we become inactive every time we feel a doubt or have a sense of worry, we won’t live in confidence and we’ll miss out on the exciting, adventurous life God has for us.

Please be assured that Jesus died not only for the forgiveness of your sins, but also so that you might enjoy a passionate, fruitful, and powerful life in Him. Be determined to experience all that He died to give you.

Prayer Starter: Father, I ask for Your help to live the adventurous life You have for me. Help me to not hold back out of fear or doubt, but confidently walk forward into all You put in my heart to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Guatemala Says Number of Missing Is Now at 332 in Volcano Eruption – Urban Christian News

Authorities on Wednesday raised by more than 130 the number of people officially missing from last month’s deadly eruption of the Volcano of Fire.

Guatemala’s disaster agency, known as Conred, said the new figure of 332, up from 197 previously, came following a review of nearly 200,000 records and verifying lists of people living in shelters.

The disaster agency has confirmed at least 113 deaths from the June 3 eruption, which sent superheated flows raging through small villages. Eighty-five of those bodies have been identified.

But an independent group known as Antigua to the Rescue, after the nearby city of the same name, said at a news conference that the death toll could be high as 2,900.

Antigua to the Rescue said its figure was compiled through its own investigations and interviews with people in shelters, especially the inhabitants of the devastated village of San Miguel Los Lotes.

Conred spokesman David de Leon said the agency was respectful of others’ comments about the disaster’s toll, but stood by its official count.

“It is important to know the base or sources that served to determine the figure that was made public,” he said.

More than 3,600 people remain in shelters run by local authorities and charities.

Last week, Conred declared almost 200 communities surrounding the Volcano of Fire as uninhabitable or at high risk due to the threat of another eruption.

The volcano is one of the region’s most active, located to the southwest of Guatemala City.

Munich Officials Want Train Station to Have Landing Pad for Flying Taxis – Urban Christian News

A group of city counselors in Munich say they want the southern German city’s main train station to have a landing pad for flying taxis.

Five city council members from the Christian Social Union party submitted a motion Wednesday calling on rail company Deutsche Bahn to consider the space needed for the small, drone-like passenger aircraft in its plans for a future redesign of the station.

In their motion, they write that “it is to be expected that within a few years technology will have advanced so far that flying taxis can be used to transport people.”

The party, which has a majority across Bavaria but is in opposition in the state capital’s assembly, has recently been championing the idea of flying taxis as a future means of travel.
