Church of England ‘Warmly Welcomes’ UK’s Plan to Ban Gay Conversion Therapy

(PHOTO: WIKIMEDIA COMMONS/HANS MUSIL)The Canterbury Cathedral is the seat of the Cathedral of the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primate of All England and religious leader of the Church of England.

The Church of England has voiced its support for the United Kingdom’s plan to ban “conversion therapy,” while other Christian groups have warned of the free speech implications of such restrictions.

On Tuesday, the U.K. government rolled out its 75-point LGBT Action Plan to better fight discrimination against the LGBT community and improve the lives of LGBT persons.

Among many other things, the plan would compel the government to “consider all legislative and non-legislative options to prohibit promoting, offering or conducting conversion therapy.”

In a statement released Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Church of England praised the action plan, specifically singling out the call to ban conversion therapy.

“We warmly welcome the government commitment to eradicate gay conversion therapy in this country,” the statement reads.

The action plan comes as the Church of England pressed the government last year to outlaw conversion therapy and after ministers met with Church Estates Commissioner Dame Caroline Spelman about the issue.

Last summer, the Church of England Synod…

Open Heavens 5 July 2018 – Weary in Well-Doing?

Topic: Weary in Well-Doing? [Open Heavens 5th July 2018, Thursday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.Galatians 6:9

Read: 1 Kings 19:9-18 (KJV)

9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Bible in One Year: 2 Chronicles 1-4, Acts 22:12-29

MESSAGE:

If good works always yield a good reward, why is the Holy Spirit encouraging us in today’s memory verse not be weary of doing good, and what does it really mean to do good? We will be reflecting on these questions today. Good works can be described as those activities that you are specially endowed by God to do for the betterment of others in obedience to His word. Several factors may discourage or hinder a child of God from continuing to do the good works that he or she is empowered to do. Such factors may arise from the fact that good works sometimes attract envy, opposition or persecution from others. Despite the huge investment of time and resources, good works may be misunderstood, may go unappreciated or even be misinterpreted as eye service. In John 3:19, the Lord Jesus Christ revealed the reason why good works may be antagonised by some, saying:

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Just as darkness despises the revealing power of light, so do evil people detest the testimony of good works, because it exposes their inadequacies. For this reason, they usually respond to good works with hatred and persecution. Consequently, the Bible admonishes us to endure in the face of opposition or persecution of our good works, and ensure that we continue in well doing.

Are you weary from the opposition you have faced in spite of your good works? You can learn one or two lessons from Elijah. The Lord performed several great exploits and good works through Elijah, including great miracles of healing, provision and raising of the dead. The Lord also used him to singlehandedly destroy 400 prophets of Baal in a contest, ignite the fire of revival in the hearts of men and call down rain after three years of drought (1 Kings 17 & 18). However, soon after accomplishing these exploits, Elijah experienced the worst discouragement of his life when Jezebel threatened to kill him (1 Kings 19:1-4). He was so discouraged that it took God’s assurance and encouragement for him to continue his life’s journey. Similar attacks and discouragement can come against us from within the Church. Apostle Paul himself experienced this (2 Corinthians 7:5, 2 Timothy 3:10-11). Since persecution and discouragement can come from anywhere, endurance is a necessary component of the Christian life. I therefore pray that no matter what you are passing through right now, the Almighty God will support, encourage and see you through those challenges in Jesus’ Name. You need strength and courage to endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ. I pray that God will grant you these in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, please give me the grace to faithfully carry my cross as I follow after Your Son in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 10: My Faith Looks Up To Thee

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Wednesday, 4 July 2018 – Not My Child

TOPIC: Not My Child (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Wednesday, 4 July 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 3: 16-21

MEMORY VERSE: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”John 10:10

The MESSAGE:

We have before us a wonderful story of two harlots who came to King Solomon. Both harlots claimed to be the mother of a living child. Please picture the scenario. Read again the discourse of the mother of the living child and what happened when she slept. At midnight, the other woman took her son from beside her and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in the bosom of her roommate. When she woke in the morning to nurse her child, behold, it was dead. But when she examined it in the morning, behold it was not her son, whom she did bear.

Beloved, many people fall in the category of the woman you just read about. They are going about with a dead child. A child stands for anything very dear to you. It could be your career, business, marriage, ministry or any other thing so dear to you. The enemy has three agenda to steal, kill and destroy these things so dear to you. In this case, the enemy wanted to steal the joy of the mother of the living child. She carried the baby in her womb for nine months and went through labour to deliver her baby which was the symbol of joy to her. At the time she should be rejoicing over a new blessing received, the enemy appeared. The enemy came at the unguarded and unwatchful hour of the day. When men slept, the enemy struck. Are you sleeping at hour you should be awake to fight with the enemy of your blessing?

Is your story similar to that of the woman whose child was replaced? If so, then you have got to wake up like the woman did and RUN TO THE KING OF KINGS. Is it your marriage, business, child or job that the enemy wants to steal or has stolen? Arise, wake up from slumbering and take your case to the true and faithful judge, the King of kings. Come to His court room and present your case. Do not allow the enemy to change your living child for the dead. One thing is urgent and important: you must wake up from your spiritual slumber and take what belongs to you. Take it before the enemy takes it from you.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
You will not recover except you discover the raiding of the robbers.

PROPHETIC WORD:
THE LORD SHALL RESTORE ALL THAT THE ENEMY HAS STOLEN FROM YOU.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Thank You Lord, for opening my eyes to the great truth in today’s Bible story, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, I pursue, overtake and recover all the enemy has stolen from me, in Jesus’ name.
3. Holy Ghost, keep me spiritually alert, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Thank You Lord, for Your mercies in my life, in the name of Jesus.
5. I reject any fake thing the devil has brought into my life, in the name of Jesus.
6. O Lord, replace every fake thing in my life with the original, in the name of Jesus.
7. Father, build a wall of fire around my life and my home, in the name of Jesus.

Megachurch Co-Founder Mark Darling Resigns After Investigation of ‘Inappropriate Conduct’ With Female Members

(Photo/Screenshot: Facebook, Vimeo)Evergreen Church co-founder Mark Darling (R) and one of his accusers Suzanne van Dyck (inset).

Pastor Mark Darling, one of the founding members of the multi-campus Evergreen Church in Minnesota and lead pastor of The Rock in South Minneapolis, has resigned from the church after an independent investigation concluded he was involved in “inappropriate conduct” with female members.

A report from Fox9 said Darling’s ordination was also rescinded by the Board of Trustees of the nondenominational church he started with Pastor Brent Knox in the 1980s, before he announced his resignation.

In a statement posted on the church’s website Sunday, the Board of Trustees explained that after they were made aware of allegations of misconduct regarding Darling on Jan. 30, they commissioned an independent investigation on Feb. 9.

Joan Harris, an attorney from Ogletree Deakins, was hired to investigate allegations made by Suzanne van Dyck against Darling about physical sexual abuse; that the church was made aware of non-physical abuse and did not take appropriate action; that an attempt was made to cover up the abuse and tried to buy van Dyck’s silence with an offer of monetary payment; and related claims arising from those areas. The inappropriate…

Priest who kicked family out of funeral placed on administrative leave

Last week family and friends of Agnes Hicks, 54, were gathered in St Mary’s Catholic Church in Charles County. However, they were told to leave by Fr Michael Briese after someone reportedly accidently knocked over and broke a chalice.

The family were forced to carry Hicks’ casket out of the church yet claim the priest still called the police.

The Archdiocese of Washington released a statement apologising for the actions of the priest that “does not reflect the Catholic Church’s fundamental calling to respect and uplift the God-given dignity of every person”.

However, another statement revealed that pending the outcome of the archdiocese’s investigation, Fr Briese would be stepping back from his position.

“In his time as pastor of St Mary’s, Fr Briese has accomplished a great deal for the local community, welcoming and helping people from all walks of life at his parish with support through his work with the local community food bank and offering employment assistance,” the Archdiocese of Washington said.

“While acknowledging the…

Episcopal Church Debates Whether to Make God Gender-Neutral in Book of Common Prayer

(Photo: Episcopal News Service)Austin Convention Center in Texas

As the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church kicks off in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, church officials are set to consider competing resolutions on whether their Book of Common Prayer, last revised in 1979, needs to be revised to send a strong message that God does not have a gender.

Officials are also expected to consider updates to reflect same-sex marriage and the adoption of new gender identities.

The Rev. Wil Gafney, a professor of the Hebrew Bible at Brite Divinity School in Texas who is on a committee recommending updates to the 1979 text used in every Episcopal congregation, told The Washington Post that changing the text to reflect God as genderless would support women’s equality.

“As long as ‘men’ and ‘God’ are in the same category, our work toward equity will not just be incomplete. I honestly think it won’t matter in some ways,” Gafney said.

Although the Episcopal Church doesn’t allow preachers to fiddle with the text of the book outside the formal process, Gafney admits that sometimes she replaces masculine words like “King” to more gender-neutral terms like “Ruler.”

A wholesale revision of the book would take several years and would not be reflected in the book until 2030.

US renews pressure for Turkey to release pastor Andrew Brunson

The American Charge d’Affaires in Ankara, Philip Kosnett, said there is a “strong sense of unity in Congress between Republicans and Democrats” that Brunson – accused of belonging to a terrorist organisation which Turkey blames for a failed coup – should be released.

Kosnett added: “[There is] a similar sense of unity between Congress and the administration that in order for the relationship between Turkey and the US to progress, we need to resolve that status not only for Brunson but also for other American citizens and local Turkish employees of US missions who we feel are detained unjustly under the state of emergency.”

Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Jeanne Shaheen, both Senators, visited Turkey’s capital last week to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to directly appeal for Brunson’s release.

Speaking about what he hoped the trip would achieve, Shaheen told the New Hampshire Union Leader: “Pastor Brunson has been unjustly imprisoned and kept away from his family for well over one year. The opportunity to see him and his wife, Norine, and to appeal directly to President Erdogan, were my main objectives on this trip.”

Brunson was summoned to a local police station in October 2016 and later charged with links to a failed plot to overthrow the Turkish government in July 2016. He has been told he faces up…

‘Demonic Deception’ Blinding Christians Who Criticize Trump, Televangelist Andrew Wommack Says

(Screenshot: Facebook/Andrew Wommack Ministries)Evangelist Andrew Wommack speaking about Christians and U.S. President Donald Trump on July 2, 2018.

God is using U.S. President Donald Trump in the end times, but a “demonic deception” is blinding people, including Christians, from understanding that, televangelist Andrew Wommack has said.

Wommack, who was promoting his Truth and Liberty Livecast, released a Facebook video on Monday where he answered questions from viewers.

On the subject of politics, one woman asked, “Why are so many Christians blinded and can’t see how God is using Trump?”

The evangelist and faith healer said as part of his answer, “I do believe that there is a demonic deception that is blinding people.”

“The antidote to that is the truth — that you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” he added, quoting from John 8 in the Bible.

He first turned to 2 Thessalonians 2, where Paul the Apostle says in part:

“For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”

Isle of Bute ‘stunned’ after girl found dead

Alesha MacPhail was reported missing from her grandmother’s home in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute at 6.25am on Monday.

Her body was found in woodland on the site of a former hotel in Ardbeg Road by a member of the public around two-and-a-half hours later.

Following the results of a post-mortem examination on Tuesday, police confirmed they are treating the schoolgirl’s death as murder.

The island community has been left in shock by the murder of the girl, who was a few days into a three-week break to visit family.

Rev Owain Jones has opened his United Church of Bute in Rothesay to allow people to visit at any time.

He said: “We’re all absolutely staggered, we have no words for this and it’s beyond any power of words to express. “We’re all just really sitting in a kind of shared stunned silence just trying to uphold each other.

“Bute is one of these places that is incredibly safe, you take all sorts of things for granted here and don’t panic if you forget to lock the house or whatever.

“It’s not a remote island in the classic sense – it’s only 90 minutes to Glasgow – but even so it is an island and we all know each other at least by sight, and it’s an extremely safe place and there is no context for this.”

Police said they have had a “very good” response to public appeals and are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry. Islanders have been warned to be vigilant about the…

Anglican Churches ‘Empty’ Because ‘Boring,’ Be Like Michael Curry

(Screenshot: YouTube/US Weekly)Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne in a video posted by US Weekly on July 14, 2016.

Music manager and “X-Factor” show host Sharon Osbourne has said that the reason the Church of England continues losing members is partly because it’s clergy is “too boring,” urging Anglicans to take a page from U.S. Episcopal Bishop Michael Curry.

“The churches are empty because the services are boring,” Osbourne told the Sunday Express. “They need more of the emotion we saw from the Bishop, who was animated and fabulous.”

The T.V. host, who is married to heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, said that her own move to America helped her “sneak through the British way of life and to become so much more emotional.”

She praised Curry, who delivered a 14-minute sermon at the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May, for offering such emotion that resonated with many.

Curry, who became the first African American to preside over the Episcopal Church in 2015, focused his sermon on the power of sacrificial, receptive love, as Jesus demonstrated in His death.

“We were made by a power of love. Our lives were meant and are meant to be lived in that love. That’s why we are here. Ultimately the source of love is God himself. The source of all of our lives,” the bishop…
