The Assemblies of God leadership has unanimously elected the first-ever female general secretary for the denomination’s General Council.

The largest Pentecostal denomination announced Monday the election of Donna L. Barrett to the position of general secretary, noting that she is also the first woman to serve on the Assemblies’ executive leadership team.

General Superintendent Doug Clay said in a statement that he was supportive of Barrett’s election to the high-ranking post.

“Through her service as a church planter, district leader, and general presbyter, Donna has shown humility paired with a special gifting for leadership,” stated Clay.

“I’ve seen God use her time and time again to speak wisdom into difficult circumstances at the district and national level.”

It says in Scripture that “From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise” (Matt. 21:16). That certainly proved true in the case of a precious little girl from Houston, Texas.

The little girl’s father, Christopher Julian, posted an endearing video to YouTube showing his daughter Yahtai’s reaction to hearing him say the word “Hallelujah.”

The video shows Julian bouncing a happy Yahtai on his lap, but “Every time I say ‘Hallelujah,” she jumps on my chest,” Julian says. He goes on to say that his wife says Yahtai has this dramatic reaction to hearing the word “Hallelujah” because she has a reverence for the Lord.

“We worship every night, so she gets serious about it,” Julian further explains. “Hallelujah, glory to God,” he says again, smiling.

According to Faithwire.com, the Julians first discovered Yahtai’s reaction to the word during a time of Bible study. 

This certainly speaks to the fact that children are able to learn about God at a very young age. Hopefully more families will follow the example of the Julian family.

Christian author and speaker Joyce Meyer has opened up about the day her father admitted that he sexually abused her for years when she was young, and asked for forgiveness and accepted Jesus Christ.

“If we love the way God loves, that means that we’re going to love when there’s nothing in it for us. When it’s just giving out. I know it will win people to Christ, including some of the hardest people you can imagine,” Meyer said in a sermon posted on her Facebook page on Monday.

“My dad sexually abused me for many years. My mother knew what was happening, she just was a very fearful woman who didn’t know [how] to deal with him, and so just let it happen,” she told the audience, recounting her story of abuse that she frequently shares. 

“Later on, many years later, after I thought I had totally forgiven [them], God put it in my heart that I needed to buy them a better house to live in, and take really good care of them until they died,” she continued.

The evangelist explained that was the “last thing” she wanted to do, and wrestled with God, asking Him what her parents had ever done for her, given the history of sexual abuse.
