Putin takes subzero dip in icy lake to mark Orthodox Christian feast

Russian television stations showed the 65-year-old Mr Putinapproaching a hole cut in the ice on Lake Seliger in north-western Russia before dunking himself in and crossing himself.

Mr Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the president had dipped in icy waters on the Epiphany before, but Friday marks the first time he has publicly done so.

In Orthodox tradition, water blessed by a priest during Epiphany week is considered holy and pure, and believers attribute healing powers to it.

Authorities set up bathing sites for believers all over Russia, including some areas in Siberia where temperatures dipped below minus 30C.

‘Hallelujah, I’m feeling a lot better’ teacher says before mystery death

Peter Farquhar, 69, was looked after in him Maids Moreton home by two former students as his health deteriorated in the final months of his life.

Ben Field, 27, a church warden, and friend 31-year-old Martyn Smith, a magician were arrested this week on suspicion of his murder and the murder of his neighbour Anne Moore-Martin, 83, who also died suddenly after a short illness 18 months later.

A friend of Mr Farquhar told The Times that he had described his former students as being like sons and appreciated their care.

Mr Farquhar, a Christian, emailed friends in October 2015 to say that, while he had been through an “awful patch” and endured a spiritual battle, he was feeling a lot better.

A coroner ruled in 2015 that his death was an accident after a post-mortem examination concluded “acute alcohol intoxication”.

Field from Towcester, Northamptonshire, Smith from Redruth, Cornwall, were arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, two counts of conspiracy to murder, two counts of suspicion of fraud by false representation, conspiracy to defraud and one count of burglary.

They have both been released on bail until 13th February.

Notable Voices and the Week in Review: January 20, 2018

Earlier this week at ThomRainer.com:

Join me January 29, 2018

6 Reminders on the Importance of Pastoral Leadership — Erik Reed

I have pastored The Journey Church for twelve years. In that time, I have found it easier to focus on theology and put leadership as a secondary matter. I created a list several years ago to remind myself how important it was for me as pastor to lead the church well. The list is not exhaustive, but it helped me. I hope they can be of help to others too.

Why Worship Pastors and Lead Pastors Should Meet Weekly — Sam Rainer

Every Monday at 4:00 p.m., I meet with both my worship pastors. We review the previous Sunday. We discuss the upcoming Sunday. We laugh together. We hold each other accountable. Sometimes I sing their worship set back to them because I have the voice of a senile cat and it annoys them. This meeting is critical for several reasons.

12 Reasons People Stay in a Struggling Church — Chuck Lawless

In our consulting work, we often talk with people who are seriously frustrated with their church – but who stay there anyway. Here are some of the primary reasons folks give us for staying when they don’t like all that’s happening in their church:

How Pastors Can Model and Teach What God’s Word Says About Financial Stewardship — Randy Alcorn

How we manage God’s money is a central biblical subject of extreme importance. Hence, financial stewardship should be unapologetically addressed by Christian leaders—we who are called upon…

Teens’ Open Heavens 20 January 2018 by Pastor Adeboye – Liberty To Sin?

Topic: Liberty To Sin? [Teens’ Open Heavens Saturday 20th, January 2018]

Memorise: For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. – Galatians 5-13

Read: Galatians 5:13-15

13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

Bible In One Year: Genesis 46-48, Matthew 14:22-36

MESSAGE:

Operating in the supernatural will naturally attract certain challenges. You cannot please God and Satan at the same time. Anytime you please God you displease the devil. It is impossible for you to operate in the supernatural without attracting the anger or fury of the kingdom of darkness. The more you operate in the supernatural, the greater the attack from your enemy.

When you begin to operate in the supernatural, try and guard against these three things: indiscipline, pride and immorality. If you study the life of Samson, you will realize that without discipline, you cannot go far in the supernatural. It is also very important that you run away from pride. Never get to the point where no one can correct you. Lastly, watch against immorality. Immorality is the fastest way to destroy your destiny. Avoid anyone who tries to make you commit immorality in any form, and avoid friends who do not see anything wrong with immorality. May Satan not get you in Jesus’ name.

Key Point: Indiscipline, pride and immorality should be avoided like plagues.

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Ex-witch Beth Eckert says the government began sending out intense waves of Illuminati mind-control programming last November, and we’re still dealing with its effects today.

TREM’s Daily 20 January 2018 Devotional by Dr. Mike Okonkwo – Be A Solution Provider

Topic: Be A Solution Provider [TREM’s Daily Saturday January 20th, 2018]

“Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer” Proverbs 24:26 (KJV)

There is a wisdom that God is releasing upon His people today. And you cannot afford to be left behind. From our text, did you notice the word “EVERY”? Not some men! Not even many! But EVERY MAN! In other words, when God gives you the wisdom to handle the situations in the organisation where you work or gives you the wisdom to create a unique product that solves problems in your industry, every man, including your avowed enemies, will kiss your lips. Why?  It is simply because you have the right answer. There is a ‘right answer’ that God is waiting for you to tap into. You are not expected to live life ordinarily like every other man. You are different. You are unique. You are God’s powerhouse. You are God’s ambassador. You are God’s representative and the difference must be clear wherever you find yourself.

One of the errors of the believer is that we copy things. When we see someone succeeding in an industry, we copy it and run into it. When we hear the testimony of an area of business opening up, we run into it blindly. But beloved, that is not God’s plan for you. He wants you to seek wisdom from His lips. He wants you to live by the proceeding word. He wants you to take instruction from Him. Yes, a brother might be doing well in that particular area of business, your duty is to thank God sincerely for him and then seek the face of God concerning your own area of business. There is a “there” for you. There is a “Goshen” that God has prepared for you but you can only get there by living from the mouth of God – that is the wisdom for today.

I challenge you today to take a quality decision to live from the mouth of God on a daily, hourly and indeed minute-by-minute basis.  I look forward to seeing you at the top because: you will get there in Jesus’ name.
