Unbroken: Based on A True Story

Based on the incredible true story.
Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

Starring alongside O’Connell are Domhnall Gleeson and Finn Wittrock as Phil and Mac—the airmen with whom Zamperini endured perilous weeks adrift in the open Pacific—Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”

The Investigator

The Investigator
Sergeant James Buanacore is about to start the most important investigation of his life.
James is approaching 20 years on the force, when a drug bust goes tragically bad. The death of the apparent suspect, an innocent bystander, leads to James being forced out of the job he loves and into early retirement.

Soon after, James’ wife Stephanie experiences a late term miscarriage. James is devastated, and once a God fearing religious man, he begins to wonder and question his faith. Depression and anger sets in and not even a job offer from Paul, his movie star brother, can get him off the couch.

Then, through a friend, Paul sets James up with an interview for a job at a local Christian High School as a part time criminal justice teacher and baseball coach. This interests James, and he accepts.

James brings his cop like mentality to the job, which doesn’t sit right with some of the students. James struggles as he’s faced with rebellious students, an unsupportive principal, and a youth pastor who is hiding something. He even considers quitting, until a challenge from one of his students leads him to start an investigation that will change his life – and his student’s lives, forever.

Paedophile Christian Doctor bags 22 Years Sentence

A paedophile children’s doctor been jailed for 22-years after he admitted sexually abusing 18 young boys in his care.

Myles Bradbury admitted 25 offences in September, including sexual assault, voyeurism and possessing more than 16,000 indecent images while working at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge between 2009 and 2013.

The judge at Cambridge Crown Court told him his offences were a “gross and grotesque breach of trust”.

It’s also emerged Bradbury, 41, went on a church mission to an African orphanage just days before he abused two young cancer patients.

He travelled with KingsGate Christian Evangelical Church from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire in 2012 to help children whose parents had died from Aids, as part of a 15-strong group that went to Swaziland to help orphaned children in 2012.

However a spokesperson for KingsGate told Premier he only attended the church for a limited time.

In a statement, the church said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened at the actions of Dr Myles Bradbury and at the devastating impact that these have had on the lives of many…Read More

“Christian Children Beheaded for Refusing to Convert to Islam” Vicar of Baghdad

Four Christian young people chose death rather than forced conversion, according to Canon Andrew White, the Vicar of Baghdad.

In a CBN video released on the Orthodox Christian Network, White – who was ordered to leave Iraq for his own safety by the Archbishop of Canterbury – spoke movingly of the plight of Christians there. Around 250,000 have been displaced by Islamic State in the north of the country, all that remain from the 1,50,000-strong pre-war Christian population.

He said: “Things were bad in Baghdad, there were bombs and shootings and our people were being killed, so many of our people fled back to Nineveh, their traditional home. It was safer, but then one day, ISIS – Islamic State. They came in and they hounded all of them out. They killed huge numbers, they chopped their children in half, they chopped their heads off, and they moved north and it was so terrible what happened.”

Islamic State forced Christians to convert to Islam on pain of death, he said. “They came to one of our people the other day, one of the Christians. They said to one man, an adult, ‘Either you say the words of conversion to Islam or we kill all your children.” He was desperate, he said the words. And then he phoned, me and said, ‘Abouna [Father], I said the words, does that mean that Yesua [Jesus] doesn’t love me any more?’ I said, ‘Yesua still loves you, he will always loves you.'”

He told of the fate of a group of Christian young people. “Islamic State turned up and said to the children, you say the words that you will follow Mohammed. The children, all under 15, four of them, said no, we love Yesua, we have always loved Yesua, we have always followed Yesua, Yesua has always been with us. They said, ‘Say the words.’ They said, ‘No, we can’t.’ They chopped all their heads off. How do you respond to that? You just cry.”

Church faces Mass Resignations Over Same-Sex Marriages

Finland’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has been hit by a wave of resignations in connection to its Archbishop’s open support for same-sex marriage, according to the YLE news service.

The country’s parliament voted on Friday to allow same-sex marriages, a move welcomed by Archbishop Kari Mäkinen. However, the Archbishop’s statement triggered a wave of defections from the Church, with nearly 12,000 registered on the “Leave the Church” website during last weekend alone. The true number leaving may end up considerably less as the process for leaving the Church requires a letter to the local register office, but it is an indication of the strength of feeling regarding the Archbishop’s comments.

Finland’s Lutheran Church is the country’s established religion and around 75 per cent of Finns are members, paying a special church tax.

The surge in resignations during the weekend has clearly been driven in part by the Archbishop’s remarks, but resignations have in any case increased in recent years thanks partly to the efforts of agnostic campaigners – who set up the “Leave the Church” website to make it easier for members to leave – partly because more Finns wish to avoid paying the Church tax, and partly because the general opposition of the Church to same-sex relationships has not played well in a largely liberal and secular society.

According to the head of the agnostics association, Petri Karisma, while most of those who chose to leave the church appeared to be conservatives angered by Archbishop Mäkinen’s support for gender-neutral marriage, liberals objected to the Church’s overall position.

“In spite of Archbishop Kari Mäkinen’s positive comments the church’s official position on same-sex marriage is negative. This has now led to a situation where liberals are also leaving,” Karisma told the Iltalehti daily paper.

He also said that during the last peak of resignations the website recorded 9,000 resignations following disparaging statements about gay marriage by Christian Democrat interior minister Päivi Räsänen in 2010. She has said she will continue to fight against the legislation…Read More

Christian Couple Acquitted of Murder, Barred from leaving Qatar

An American Christian couple accused of starving their adopted daughter to death were acquitted on Sunday, but were stopped by security when they tried to leave Qatar.

Matthew and Grace Huang’s eight-year-old daughter Gloria died in January 2013. The parents were arrested the day after her death and subsequently charged with murder.

The case has been riddled with confusion. The Huangs were eventually convicted in March 2014 of exposing Gloria to danger, but not deliberately starving her. They were sentenced to three years in prison.

The ruling was overturned on Sunday at an appeal court, where it was found that the lower courts had made numerous mistakes.

But when the couple tried to leave the country on Sunday evening, they were told at Doha airport that a new arrest warrant had been issued and their passports were taken from them, the family’s representative, Eric Volz, told Reuters.

“This is sort of a spiteful move,” Volz said…Read More

Pastor and Children Murdered by Taliban Suicide Bombing in Afghanistan

A church in South Africa is in mourning for its part-time pastor and his two teenaged children, killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan on Saturday.

Werner Groenewald, his 17-year-old son Jean-Pierre and a 15-year-old daughter, Rodé, were killed after Taliban fighters attacked a house used by foreign aid workers. His wife Hannelie, a doctor, was working at a hospital when the attack began. An unnamed Afghan local also died in the attack.

Groenewald, 46, was in Afghanistan as part of an American-based educational charity, Partnership in Academics and Development (PAD), which helps educate poor and orphaned children in various countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. He became a pastor at the Moreleta Park Dutch Reformed Church in Pretoria 1997 and went to Afghanistan in 2002.

A statement on the church’s Facebook page said: “The family was loved by the community and had stayed in contact over all these years.

“When the announcement of their murder was made on Sunday November it was received with great shock and sadness…Read More

Online retailers hope for Shopping Surge on Cyber Monday’:

Dubbed “Cyber Monday”, some online stores offer discounts for consumers ramping up their Christmas shopping.

The first two Mondays of December tend to be the busiest online shopping days, after browsing over the weekend.

Cyber Monday comes after the frenzy of Black Friday offers – which some stores have carried over for a few more days.

However, some analysts say that shoppers are leaving their Christmas buying later.

This is the result of greater confidence in delivery services as retailers now rely so heavily on online sales.

Nigel Wilson, managing director of consumer insight at Experian Marketing Services, said that the pre-Christmas shopping peaks were “clearly identifiable”.

Experian predicts consumers will spend £649.6m on 1 December, or £451,000 a minute – a 26% increase on Cyber Monday last year.

As the month goes on, online spending tends to be replaced by spending on the High Street for last-minute gifts and Christmas preparations. The busiest shopping day in stores is, according to Experian, on Boxing Day when traditional sales begin.

Cyber Monday is seized on by retailers’ marketing arms. The same is now true of Black Friday – which originated in the US. The discounts on offer prompted some frenzied scenes on Friday.

Police criticised management of some supermarkets after crowd surges and scuffles in scenes that officers in Greater Manchester described as “totally predictable”.

Online retailer Amazon UK recorded orders for more than 5.5 million goods, with about 64 items sold per second – its busiest ever day.

Some online retailers reported problems with customers accessing their websites on Friday owing to demand.
