Three of the year’s biggest artists in Christian Music – For King and Country, Lauren Daigle and Danny Gokey – and the groundbreaking pro-life movie Unplanned won big this weekend at the K-Love Fan awards bringing home a collective total of 6 awards.

Australian brother duo For King and Country, walked away with two awards including “Best Group/Duo of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for their hit song “God Only Knows.”

While receiving the “Best Group/Duo of the Year” award, member Luke Smallbone shared the story of how God helped this album come into existence. Smallbone shared how, after getting sick, his wife became dependent on the pills she was prescribed. The “Burn the Ships” singer shared that the two turned to God for help through their struggle and eventually his wife was free from her addiction. This, the singer proclaimed, was the inspiration for the group’s most recent album’s single “Burn the Ships” which shares the album’s namesake.

The brothers took to Instagram to share the moment with their followers and took the opportunity to thank their fans. They wrote, “We couldn’t let the night escape us before sending out an enormous “thank you“ to you who showed your support for us at tonight’s @klovefanawards.”

The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has officially approved a crucial change to the Lord’s prayer.

Using the text from Matthew 6:13, Francis has swapped the phrasing “lead us not into temptation” with “do not let us fall into temptation.” The idea behind the amendment is to clarify the Pope’s belief that God himself does not lead anyone into temptation, because He is a kind and omnipotent being and this action would be in contradiction with his nature.

“A father doesn’t do that, a father helps you to get up immediately,” Francis was previously quoted as saying regarding the verse in question. “It’s Satan who leads us into temptation, that’s his department.”

The official change was announced by the President of theGeneral Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Italy, Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, on May 22.

According to uCatholic, the changes have been some 16 years in the making and aim to “contribute to the renewal of the ecclesial community in the wake of the liturgical reform.”

In addition to the significant changes made to this popular prayer, Francis also approved a key change to The Gloria, replacing “Peace on earth to people of good will” to “Peace on Earth to people beloved by God.”

Maine’s state Senate passed a bill with a 19-16 vote on Tuesday, legalizing assisted suicide.

According to the AP, the bill failed to pass through Maine’s Legislature several times in the past, and only narrowly passed both the House (73-72 vote) and the Senate on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. 

Reportedly, the bill will make it legal for doctors to prescribe lethal dosages of medication to terminally ill patients by deeming that it is not suicide. This will then allow people prescribing or administering the drugs to “defend themselves from being prosecuted for aggravated attempted murder, murder, or aiding or soliciting suicide,” Court News Service reports.

In the state’s Senate on Tuesday, Legislators from both parties defended the bill by sharing stories about their own loved ones who have lost their lives. 

Republican Senator Marianne Moore voiced her support for the bill saying that all people deserved the right to choose their “end of life care.” She said, “I hope you will come down on the side of the terminally ill, people who don’t seem to be asking for too much: the right to choose their own end of life care.”

Others, however, fiercely opposed the legislation.

The Midwest faces another week of rain and thunderstorms this week, prompting many in the region to recall the horrific floods of 1993. Many locations in the Plain states, as well as the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys, will see 1 to 3 inches of rain, with some localities facing as many as 5 inches.

According to the Weather Channel, 10 locations have already set new record river levels as many areas saw record-breaking rainfall in May. Areas along the Arkansas River have seen the highest levels so far, with one location in Oklahoma and 5 in Arkansas setting river level records.

Tulsa, Oklahoma has also faced rising water levels. The river reached its highest level in Tulsa since 1986, placing stress on the levee system as more water poured in from Keystone Dam. In late May, the Army Corps of Engineers increased the release rate at the dam to 275,000 cubic feet per second, bringing back memories of the city’s historic flood of 1986.

The city of Davenport, Iowa is also seeing echoes of the flood of 1993. The city’s temporary barrier failed in April and the river crested last week at 21 feet, which is the second highest crest since 1993. One restaurant owner in the city told theNew York Times that the city had gotten “a little too complacent,” adding, “The city had a good flood plan. It’s been successful since 1993 – until this year.”

A pastor quoted Scripture and asked God to judge Illinois for the “sanctioned destruction of the innocent unborn” during the opening prayer of the House of Representatives Friday, three days after the same body voted to expand abortion in the state through all nine months of pregnancy. 

“God, we have made our appeals to the leaders of Illinois this week, on behalf of those innocent babies who do not yet have a voice,” Cory Musgrave, pastor of New Beginnings Church in Fairfield, Ill., prayed. “We have been a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves as you have commanded us. Those appeals were denied. 

“But we have one final appeal left, and that is to the courts of heaven. God Almighty, I make an appeal to heaven today, to you the perfect judge, the one who presides over heaven’s court. I ask you to rise up, Oh God, and judge Illinois, for the sanctioned destruction of the innocent unborn. For when your judgments are in this state, the inhabitants of Illinois learn righteousness.”

The bill, H.B. 25, declares abortion a “fundamental right” and says the fetus “does not have independent rights,” as Christian Headlines previously reported.
