Netflix Threatens to Pull Out of Georgia If Pro-Life Law Takes Effect

Netflix Threatens to Pull Out of Georgia If Pro-Life Law Takes Effect

Netflix on Tuesday became the first major Hollywood studio to speak out against Georgia’s pro-life heartbeat law, warning it may move its productions out of the state if the law goes into effect.

The law, signed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, bans abortion after an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detected.

“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, told Variety. “It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court.

“Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there, while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”

But Netflix’s statement sparked plenty of pushback on social media.

“Hey look @netflix is rabidly pro-abortion!!!” pro-life advocate Obianuju Ekeocha wrote on Twitter. “It’s very telling that none of these organizations protested extreme abortion/infanticide laws in New York and other states.”

Abortion Is a ‘Disturbingly Effective Tool’ for Eugenics, Supreme Court Justice Warns

Abortion Is a ‘Disturbingly Effective Tool’ for Eugenics, Supreme Court Justice Warns

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas cited lessons from the history of the American eugenics movement Tuesday in warning that abortion can be a “tool” to eliminate entire segments of the population.

“A growing body of evidence suggests that eugenic goals are already being realized through abortion,” Thomas wrote.

Thomas cited the widespread use of abortion of female babies in Asia, the worldwide use of abortion of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome, and the abortion ratio within the American black population compared to that of the white population.

“With today’s prenatal screening tests and other technologies, abortion can easily be used to eliminate children with unwanted characteristics,” he wrote. “Indeed, the individualized nature of abortion gives it even more eugenic potential than birth control, which simply reduces the chance of conceiving any child.”

Thomas’ 20-page opinion accompanied the court’s refusal to hear a case involving an Indiana law banning sex-, race-, and disability-selective abortions. Thomas agreed with the court’s decision not to take up the case but only because the issue needed more time to percolate in lower courts. The high court often will take up an issue only after it is considered in multiple circuits. The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals had struck down the Indiana…

Church, Targeted by Marijuana Firm, Wins Battle

Church, Targeted by Marijuana Firm, Wins Battle

A San Diego church has won a settlement agreement with the city after a marijuana production company targeted the congregation in hopes of moving its operations into a nearby warehouse.

City ordinances prohibit marijuana-related businesses within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and churches.

“It was something you have on your mind every single day,” Pastor Andy Ballon told Christian Headlines. “Thinking about what was going to happen. What could happen? Personally, it reminded me that God is with us and we are doing something right. It was total validation for me and, I think, for our congregation.”

Last year, Cannversions, Inc. applied for a permit to open a growing operation in an industrial park, but was denied access because Vision Church’s leased property was just 449 feet from the warehouse. Undeterred, the pot company broached the landlord to purchase the property outright, but the owner declined. When that didn’t work, Cannversions filed a complaint with the city alleging the church was illegally operating in a FEMA flood zone and had inadequate parking.

City officials inspected the church property and found eight code violations. Vision Church was ordered to immediately cease operations or face daily fines of $4,000—$500 for each infraction. Hoping to forge a compromise, the landlords followed up the inspection with a meeting of city officials, showing them…

Planned Parenthood Sues to Keep Last Missouri Abortion Clinic Open

Planned Parenthood Sues to Keep Last Missouri Abortion Clinic Open

Planned Parenthood in Missouri filed suit Tuesday to prevent the doors from being closed on its last clinic in Missouri, which is currently the only abortion clinic operating in the state.

The controversy comes in the wake of Missouri passing a ban on abortions beyond the eighth week of pregnancy.

The license for the St. Louis-based clinic is set to expire Friday, and the state and Planned Parenthood are at an impasse over the results of a state audit of the facility. The state gave the facility three conditions to meet before their license could be renewed. Planned Parenthood told the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services on May 20th that it could meet two of those demands—to adjust the personnel who offer state-mandated counseling at the clinic and add an additional pelvic exam for women who are having an abortion, even those administered by a pill.

Planned Parenthood said they were complying with the pelvic exam even though a physician at the clinic described it as “unnecessary,” “medically irrelevant,” and “borderline harassment.”

The two sides cannot agree on a resolution to the third condition, which is the department’s demand to interview seven physicians who provide services at the clinic as part of an investigation into “deficient practices.”

Helene Krasnoff, head of litigation at Planned Parenthood of America, said they…

Ark Encounter Sues Insurance Company over Damage from Excessive Rainfall

Ark Encounter Sues Insurance Company over Damage from Excessive Rainfall

The headline has sparked jokes all over the country. Ark Encounter, the Noah’s ark replica and theme park in Kentucky, is suing Allied World Insurance Company in district court because they would not pay for over $1 million in damages from excessive rain.

Williamsburg – where the park is located – saw higher than normal rainfall in 2017. While the 520-foot ark itself was not damaged, a slope near the access road on the east side of the ark started to fail before a “significant landslide” damaged a barrier along the road. In its place, engineers suggested they build a retaining wall with concrete shafts. In addition, they repaved portions of the road and reworked the drainage around it.

According to the Washington PostArk Encounter submitted the damage to Allied World Insurance, but the company denied the claim. Reportedly, the insurance company said the theme park’s policy carried an exception clause for work related to “design deficiencies” or “faulty workmanship.”

In the end, the insurance company paid what the suit calls a “very small portion” of the claim, but Ark Encounter said the company “breached their contractual obligations, acted in bad faith, and violated Kentucky law by failing to provide further coverage.”

Louisville’s Courier-Journal contacted Ark Encounter’s attorney, Amanda Brooke Stubblefield. She said they…

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy Called into Question over ‘Sordid’ FBI Files

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy Called into Question over ‘Sordid’ FBI Files

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy came under fire this week after the London Times published an article detailing that the Civil Rights leader had extramarital affairs with more than 40 women.

According to the London Times, Pulitzer Prize-winning MLK biographer David Garrow wrote a scathing piece about King for Standpoint Magazine’s upcoming June addition, breaking down the allegedly promiscuous life of the Civil Rights icon.

It is well known that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was surveilling King in the 1950s and 60s as approved by the former U.S. Attorney General, the late Robert Kennedy, in an attempt to tie him to the communist party.

According to the Christian Post, the FBI documents on King – including the surveillance recordings – were sealed under court order in January of 1977. The documents would be sealed for a span of 50 years, marking 2027 as the year they are expected to be released.

According to the London Times, however, a “huge archive of documents” was recently released by the FBI containing memos which discuss the secret FBI tapes. Reportedly the memos detail King’s alleged involvement in over 40 extramarital affairs. The documents are also said to accuse King of watching a fellow minister rape a female congregant in a hotel room.

The London Times reports that the released documents allegedly implicate…

UN establishes commemorative day recognising victims of violence because of religion

On May 28, 2019, Poland, supported by several other countries, including; Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan and the United States, tabled a UN General Assembly resolution establishing the UN International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief on August 22.

The resolution was adopted by consensus.

The initiative and the primary resolution was drafted by Ewelina Ochab, a Christian, Polish, independent legal researcher.

Speaking to Premier about its potential impact, she said: “There was such a great need to establish such a day that I just needed to continue with the proposal, it will make a big difference and until now, there was no such a UN day focused on any aspects of religious freedom.

“If you look at how other international UN-led days work, they get a lot of attention, whether in the media or the various events organised surrounding those days, so it’s not only to have a day on its own, it manages to get the needed attention and trigger action as well.”

A Pregnant Woman ‘Is Not a Mother,’ Ruth Bader Ginsburg Asserts

A Pregnant Woman ‘Is Not a Mother,’ Ruth Bader Ginsburg Asserts

U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Ruth Bader Ginsburg engaged in a verbal spar Tuesday over several abortion-related legal issues – Including over whether a pregnant woman should be considered a “mother.”

“A woman who exercises her constitutionally protected right to terminate a pregnancy is not a ‘mother,’” Ginsburg wrote in a Supreme Court order.

At issue was an Indiana law that did two things: 1) banned sex-, race- and disability-selective abortions, and, 2) required the burial or cremation of aborted babies. An appeals court struck down the entire law. The Supreme Court upheld the latter segment of the law but chose not to get involved in the former issue.

Thomas, in a separate opinion, said he agreed with the court’s decision, although he made clear he believed such an abortion ban would be constitutional. Ginsburg also wrote a separate opinion, saying she thought the entire Indiana law was unconstitutional. Each also wrote a footnote directed at the other.

“Justice Ginsburg’s dissent from this holding makes little sense,” Thomas wrote.

“Justice Thomas’ footnote… displays more heat than light,” Ginsburg retorted.

The high court, in its majority opinion, pointed to a 1983 decision that said states have a “legitimate interest in proper disposal of fetal remains.”

Ginsburg called it a “waste of the…

Ireland’s Protestant and Catholic leaders unite for ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayer movement

The ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayer initiative takes place from May 30 – June 9 and asks believers to intentionally pray for five people to come to know Jesus between the days of Ascension and Pentecost; the period that signifies Jesus returning to heaven before the gift of the Holy Spirit is given at Pentecost.

The Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, who originally gave the invitation to pray to the Church of England in 2013, asked Pope Francis to share his encouragements to those taking part in the initiative that has spread across Christian traditions and grown into an international call to prayer.

Pope Francis said: “This is the cry of all Christians,on the Day of Pentecost. Come Holy Spirit – the promise of the Father; the promise of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit might enlarge and widen our hearts.

To you, my brothers and sisters, with my brother Justin Welby, we want to tell you that we walk along side you in this prayer – thy Kingdom come.” He added.

This ‘prayer for five’ seeks to see more people encounter the love of God and the power of His Holy Spirit as they ask God’s kingdom to come into the lives of many.

Reflecting on the power of prayer, Archbishop William Temple said: “When I pray, coincidences happen; when I don’t, they don’t!”

The global prayer movement hopes to encourages Christians around the world to pray with increased faith and expectation for more…

Iranian Government Shuts Down Assyrian Presbyterian Church, Removes Cross from Tower

Iranian Government Shuts Down Assyrian Presbyterian Church, Removes Cross from Tower

Intelligence agents in Iran have forced an Assyrian Christian church to close its doors.

According to the Assyrian International News Agency, agents “stormed” the 100-year-old Presbyterian church on May 9, changed the locks and removed the cross from the church tower.

“They made it clear that the Assyrian people are no longer allowed to hold any worship service there,” a source told Article18.

The source also said that the government agents installed a monitoring system around the church and threatened the custodian at the Tabriz church.

In 2011, the church was “confiscated” by a Revolutionary Court order, but church members have been allowed to use the building for services in the Assyrian language.

“Many churches owned by Protestants have been confiscated in Iran,” said Article18’s Advocacy Director, Mansour Borji, “In most cases the government has been unable to repurpose them, especially if they were listed. So they typically remain as empty buildings, often neglected, and turn into ruins before being demolished, as was the case with the church in Kerman.”

Under the constitution of the Islamic Republic, Assyrian Christians and Armenian Christians are allowed freedom of worship, but the groups are forbidden from holding services in the Persian language. Officials have said that services in Persian are proselytizing and converts to the…
